Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting
Serwa Boateng’s Guide to Vampire Hunting
This is a great adition to the world of middle grade fantasy. A mix of Black, Brown and Asian kids trying to save their school from a vampire? A+ A type of magic that I at least haven’t seen in the age bracket? A+ A book that brings up the fact that the school is built on land that was worked by slaves. Where slaves were victim to the whims of inhumane people? A+++. And if you don’t like that…

So next month we're getting Chalice of the Gods and Roshani Chokshi's Spirit Glass and Serwa Boateng 2
I am not a fast reader so I am already way behind, this feels like a lot to keep up with
I'm looking forward to Chalice of the Gods! Especially since my mom and I have tickets to go see Rick while he's on book tour.
I never read Serwa Boateng, and as for Spirit Glass... Gotta say, I wasn't impressed by how her earlier books, the Aru Shah series, ended. Don't get me wrong, her character work is exquisite, but the plots sucked, and the way the final book wrapped things up was a massive disappointment that led me to wonder what the point of some of the earlier books was. I might still try Spirit Glass if my library gets it because well, I've really liked how she writes characters, but I'm not quivering with anticipation for it.

Current Things Meme!
@rebel-by-default tagged me in a thing where I get to talk about myself! Yay!
Currently reading: Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting by Roseanne A. Browne. Rick Riordan presents, fun typical of the imprint.
Last song listened to: "Route 66" by Natalie Cole. I've had my Entire Music Collection on my computer on shuffle all weekend and I'm always delighted by the variety. What radio station would go from Green Day to the Carpenters to "Burn" from Hamilton to "I'm Cute" from Animaniacs (a thing that actually happened today)? WHAT station? NO one but WAMY.
Last movie watched: Ummm, I THINK the last time I watched movies was NYE, which means it would have been Arsenic and Old Lace. I have no idea what the most recent movie I would have watched for the first time was.
Currently working on: This weekend's big project is... butchering a pig. Seriously. My husband went on a pig hunt, which is an actual thing, and brought home a 300 lb hog-- luckily already skinned and quartered, I just have to cut it into serving sizes and package it and whatnot. I am still only 2/3 of the way through! I have to stop off and on because standing at the counter hurts my feet and back! That's why I am on Tumblr right now instead of still chopping!
As for writing-type working on, I've got so much going on right now that none of my WIPs are currently actually IP. Arts and crafts are likewise set aside for the moment. I mean, eventually I might even take the Christmas tree down.
I tag @sunnymarbles and @dannypageoflight, because I'm wimping out and only tagging my immediate family!

The great thing about fall is that so many spooky books are being released. Ravenfall, Rust in the Root, The Gathering Dark, Bone Weaver, Serwa Boateng’s Guide to Vampire Hunting…
The bad thing is that I want to read them all at the same time.
