To fixate on politics and politicians with access to this much information is nothing more than willful ignorance - Self Deception.

Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.

7 Women and a Murder (7 donne e un mistero)

Yeah, I’m still on the silly movie kick as a way to wrap up the year and kick off the next. Why not leave and enter with smiles, right?

And this murder mystery is definitely squarely in the silly pile. It is part telenovella, part satire of the same. What really helps to set the movie apart is that is is ALL women. There isn’t a male actor (other than the dead body) among them.

And every one of them delivers, with a solid hand behind the camera. Alessandro Genovesi finds the perfect delivery in his directing and the co-written script. It is all with a nod and a wink and no expectation that it will more than brush with reality. It is a broad comedy (literally) and handled deftly by the cast. The irony of a male director isn’t lost on me, but look through his past films and you’ll see why he was a good match for it. Still, I have to admit, I’m curious how a female director might have managed the same script.

As a separate side note, seeing it so closely to the much bigger budget Glass Onion made for interesting comparisons as well. It isn’t nearly as slick, but it is just about as effective. Just goes to show it is story and craft that make for a good film rather than budget.

Failing to know that over 70% of the world's soy is consumed by animals that are eaten by bacon boys makes you look like a dickhead when you talk shit about vegans and soy destroying the planet. It's GMO soy that they give animals because it's not fit for human consumption.

Mad About the Boy: The Noel Coward Story

Barnaby Thompson (St. Trinian’s: Legend of Fritton’s Gold) tackles something a bit different for him in this documentary. However, it should be noted that his subject is as brash as Thompson’s typical fictions. Noel Coward was a “P”ersonality as well as a major talent and trend-setter of the last century.

Coward also had a mountain of home movies that Thompson was able to gain access to in order to show the real life behind the interviews and performing persona. They are all silent, but even how the man held himself was different without the prying eyes of the press and cameras.

Born in 1899, there is a lot to cover in Coward’s life. And, to be honest, Thompson ends up delivering more of an overview with moments called out rather than a comprehensive examination. Many of the facts and performances are well known, so the interesting parts were the insights into his private personality as a director and as a partner to his many, and one enduring, relationships. But these are mostly glossed over with minor insights and nods.

As a starter pack of information, this is a fine documentary. There is a good amount of archival footage from stage, screen, TV, and behind-the-scenes moments. But if it captures you, it will send you forth to dig out more information rather than leaving you feeling sated. Not a horrible way to exit the film, and Coward would probably love the idea of leaving you wanting more.
