I work a haunt and a kind of hilarious thing happens every year where I have to reintroduce myself to my coworkers after weeks of working together because they don't know what I look like. 😆

I tend to have make-up heavy looks plus an earlier call time than a lot of folks, so they don't usually see me without make up and then don't recognize me out of it.

Last year was definitely worse (I was in a full face prosthetic) - I had people give me weird looks when I was talking to them or not really engage in conversation until I explained who I was. Last night though, I was just reminded of it when a couple folks came out to drinks afterwards who hadn't for the last couple of weeks and they all were just like "Omg, we've never seen your face before!" 😂

It's just a funny part of the gig that comes up every year.

Just as an FYI these have been my looks the last three years & my actual face.

I'm part of the Los Angeles crew for Haunted Soiree, btw for anyone curious. It's an interactive, spooky cocktail party.

seemingly dealing with a case of cotard's delusion, giselle perceives herself strangely: sometimes as a doll or angel, but always as dead. she spends most of her time with her dear anneliese, playing games or telling stories, hosting tea parties or dress-up days. among the insane company she keeps, she is assumed to be irrational, though harmless. but with the gaps in her memory - and her asylum records - alongside her uncanny behavior, some who encounter her believe she really is a lingering specter after all.

I return home from battle (the haunted house I work at) and go to greet my infant son (my cat) but he cowers away from me because I am still wearing my helmet (spooky face paint around my mouth and eyes) and it makes me look like a scary monster. War (scaring the shit out of people for four hours straight) really does dehumanize us.

I am at my city's pride parade and a lady just came up to me because she recognized me. From my HAUNT ACTING JOB.

Covered in blood and crawling along the ground = Shirtless and wearing a leather harness and too much arm jewelry.

Well, another haunt season has come and gone, which means I can tell you what I've been up to for the past two (ish) months!

For those of you who don't know, every Halloween season I work at my local haunted house as a scare actor. For the past 5 years we've had a plague themed haunt, and while we've had plague doctors in there in the past, we didn't have one for the last couple years. This year I aimed to change that.

Now, I specifically wanted the plague doctor to be a constant presence in the plague ridden city, so I auditioned to be a roaming actor, and I actually got the position!!!

Without further Ado, i'd like to introduce to you all: Dr. Erhard Guntram!

(and before you ask, yes this costume is mostly just my Dr. Bertram outfit but with a different mask. I also did make a new cane, but that ended up breaking like the second week in 😭)

To make the character's story more interesting (and to explain why he was so desperately searching for a cure) I decided that Dr. Guntram would have an extremely bad case of the plague. Which means the extremely talented makeup artists got to have fun absolutely ruining my face! Here's some of my favorite makeups this season!

Now part of my role this year was to check on the actors in my specific area, however I was not the main person doing that.

The main lead was my good friend @phantomgleek, and naturally we had to get some goofy behind the scenes photos. My favorite of which is on our last night, when we did twin makeups (which we call twin night)

On one of the nights I wasn't roaming, phantomgleek ended up stealing my hat, and went to every actor in our section and poked fun at Dr. Guntram. So naturally I had to buy a red wig and did the same to her character Adelaide! (Which of course led to our goofiest twin day photo yet.)

(unfortunately I am now out of room for photos on this post 😭)

This was, without a doubt, the best season I've had at the haunt. Getting to make a new, unique character and to roam about, chasing people through the rooms was one of the most entertaining experiences. I've been a paid scare actor for 6 years now, and I volunteered for 6 years before that. I hate that this year is over, but I already can't wait for next year!!!
