It’s difficult to imagine these songs living anywhere other than my most secret places, but yourname.official reminded me that holding space for my heart's feelings in songwriting is kind of the whole point.

I feel an unbelievable amount of gratitude for the opportunity to have made this album. Writing this record allowed me to grow up in ways I needed to. It forced me to reflect and be accountable. California Numb - Chapter Two

content warning: detailed mentions of a panic attack, slight verbal abuse, swearing

Imani packs a few more toiletries and zips up her bag. She does the same with Daisy’s’ toiletries. She takes it back to their shared room where their clothes are laid out on the bed.

Daisy had gone out to buy the two of them some lunch because they were set to leave for the road trip with Hazel, her sister, Rachel and Mekhala at 2PM.

After checking to make sure everything that they both needed was laid out in the bed, she goes to the room that the two used for storage to get their suitcases.

As she reaches for them, a clear container appears out of the corner of her eye. To avoid the container falling on her, she takes it out and places it on the floor. Just as she’s about to put the container back after getting the suitcases down she notices something shiny in the box.

Even though her mind told her to put the container back and continue packing, she didn’t register that because next thing she knew she was opening it.

Then she was holding her medal. The heavy slab of metal in her hands had a lot of dust on it. She honestly forgot that she still had it with her. Last she checked she left it with her moms but now that she looks back on it, her memory was a little foggy.

The medal felt much heavier in her hands than usual. As she traces the patterns with her thumb his voice pops up in her head.

If you keep eating like that, you’ll look like shit when you skate later

You don’t need the ibuprofen, the pain is in your head

You’ve had your surgery, so you don’t need to stay in this hospital anymore, just skate it off

don’t fuck this up!

Imani didn’t realise how long she had been staring at and holding the piece of metal until she felt one of her girlfriends hands cup her face while the other slowly takes the medal out of her hands. She also didn’t realise that she was practically shaking, her heart was pounding and that streaks of tears had been streaming down her cheeks.

Daisy had come home minutes prior calling for Imani so that the two could quickly eat and so that she could take her medicine for the day. She didn’t expect Cosmo to point her in the correct direction. The brunette thought that Imani left the medal at her moms’ house back in Louisville so she was shocked to see her girlfriend on the ground with it in her hands.

She after doing everything mentioned before she pushed the medal away to the other side of the room before Imani melts into Daisy’s arms. Feeling the quick movements of her girlfriends heart against her chest she begins to rub small circles on her back while placing soft kisses on the top of her head.

“I’m sorry.” Imani sobs making Daisy blink away the tears that began to blur her vision.

“Don’t apologise baby, I’m right here.” The brunette reassures. “You aren’t there, you’re here. With me in our apartment, in Atlanta.

“You aren’t there you’re in our apartment with Luna your cat. Take a deep breath for me and hold okay.”

Imani feels her heart rate slow down as her feels her blue cats tail in between her fingers. She takes a deep breath as instructed, holds for a few seconds and releases it.

“That’s it my love you’re doing so well. Take a few more of those deep breaths okay.” Daisy praises before Imani repeats her previous actions.

After a few minutes of doing that, Imani finds herself leaning against the wall, with her cat in her lap and her girlfriend sitting next to her. Daisy traces circles in her palm as Imani stares off into the distance.

While the gold medal lays in a corner on the other side of the room the container from earlier lays within arms reach of Imani. She notices a stack of photographs tied together by some red ribbon.

She reaches and takes the stack, the first thing she sees is a picture of her and the very familiar curly haired boy from five years ago. The two are wearing their graduation robes, tossing their caps into the air with a gleaming smile on each of their faces.

She smiles at the memory and chuckles slightly while remembering the amount of takes it took to actually get the picture right.

Daisy takes a peak at the item in her hands and smiles with her.

Daisy knew better than anyone how much Jack Harlow meant to her. She also knew how hard it had been for her over the past couple months of not seeing him. Daisy could tell that Imani felt like they were slowly drifting apart and it terrified her.

“How long has it been since you’ve see him?” She asks.

“Almost 9 months. Around March just before we flew to Vancouver.”

Over the past year Imani’s schedule had been packed. She had been travelling for filming. Month after month, day after day, script after script. She’d learn something, act it out then move onto the next project. She’d gotten her dream roles this year and couldn’t wait to tell everyone but these roles pushed her away from her moms, brothers and sisters constantly.

She missed them dearly but she was making them proud. That’s all she need do hear from them. It made things easier.

So despite her brief anxiety attack, she stil felt extremely excited to see everyone in Louisville.

She was excited to see them, excited to see him.

She didn’t realise how much Jackman Thomas Harlow practically craved to see her.

A/N: we may be getting a Jack and Imani reunion in the next chapter and we hate Dingane Khumalo in these streets.
