Sasuke Inari Shrine, Kanagawa Prefecture by yohzero
Legend has it that when Minamoto no Yoritomo was exiled in Izu, he had a dream of a Kitsune (Fox) who told him that the time to rise is now. After defeating the Taira, he establishes the first shogunate in Kamakura and built this shrine as thanks to the gods.

Today for Reasons I have been looking up train stops and routes from Tokyo and every time I come across a province or town name that is familiar to me, I have to click on it because “Shonen-maru no Jump lives here!!!!!” or “Shonen-maru no Jump’s sensei/nemesis/whatever died here!” or “AHH RIGHT THAT’S WHERE SAITAMA IS!!!”

Japan day 12: Kamakura's Sasuke Inari Jinja shrine ⛩️🦊
So we were visiting Kamakura, right. Kamakura is known as "The Kyoto of Kanto region", meaning there's a fuckton of temples and shrines. We had just visited two such temples, and I spot on the map a shrine to Inari. "Sweet", I say, "a shrine to my fave deity, and it's on our way, too!"
So we go to Sasuke Inari.
Tumblr media
Having a bunch of torii forming a tunnel seems to be a staple of Inari shrines. Personally I find it pretty cool.
Oh and look, people left little fox figurines at the feet of the torii.
Tumblr media
And on the milestones and the fox statues, how cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...And on the smaller midway altars, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...wait...
That's. A lot of foxes.

WHAT THE FUCK??????
In other news, I got yet another goshuin stamp, and we taught the priest to say "renard" (fox in French); he was repeating it to himself as we left 🦊

🖊 HIZUMI PLEASE!!!!!
You bring up the fact that I ALWAYS neglect Hizumi a whole damn lot. So thanks for wanting to know more about them in the first place. <3
Tumblr media
Where do I start?
It's a bit weird gushing about this 'oc' that only exists as a cosplay still and that I see kind of as a self insert since Hizumi actually has my face and came to life through me as I wanted to do a Cyberpunk themed outfit over a year ago.
I can say, they will look probably a bit different than me in the game, when I create them; because they are half Japanese, half American (I am German) and I doubt this game has my face either. I have only a few facts I can share about them – not sure anymore if they already got posted here on tblr (in their about tag) or not, so gomen nasai if you came across them already! ———–—
Tumblr media
Hizumi's oni mask is a keepsake from their little brother who's been too dumb (sadly) by joining the Tyger Claws and got murdered when he decided it was wrong and wanted to leave. Hizumi doesn't like Tyger Claws but thought it's best to dress like them as well so they are harder to be seen. Their style also leans heavily on the Night City urban legend of "The Demon of Kabuki". Everyone fears this oni and many dress up like him and you never kown who is the real one, so Hizumi too, uses it for their advantages.
Hizumi likes to roam the realm of the supernatural and believes the spirits are talking to them. Chigasaki got interested in it very early when they were diving into the world of Japanese folklore full of gods and creatures such as oni and yokai. They believe to have had an encounter with the Kami Inari at their home shrine* in Kamakura that lies deep in the woods behind the hidden village. *Sasuke Inari Jinja — my favorite place, a shrine in/near Kamakura near Tokyo — deep in the woods behind the city (its more like a big town for me). It's so beautiful and feels mystic to me, however I assume most Japanese people think it might be rather scary as I remember having shown my pics to a group (who thankfully spoke German) and they were scared of how it looked there with all the fox statues because theres tones of them placed everywhere within and around the shrine in the forest.
They have trained with a sword ever since Hizumi was 4 years old because their father used to be a skilled sword master and smith. Hizumi comes from a historic city named Kamakura* — a city that used to be the de facto capital of Japan from 1185 to 1333 and the seat of the Kamakura shogunate. Many warriors found their rest in and around Kamakura. *I've been in Kamakura 4x, full of historic stuff and too many shrines to take a look at. I can imagine very well that Hizumi grew up there in their childhood.
Hizumi is a lazy bitch. Only talks when necessary or needed, doesn't interfere much either. It's likely that Vijay or Ryder have to give them an exact order to do something — it's like when you enter a taxi in Tokyo and can't tell the driver the exact location, he won't start driving. You'll spot Hizumi mostly sitting or lying around being lazy but still observing. In battle however Hizumi is fast (makes use of sandevistan) and very skilled in using their katana.
They also like to be up on high buildings. It's where they feel safest and inapproachable in the city. Down in the streets there is only danger around you all the time called daily life. Up high on a skyscraper, they've got peace.* So, Hizumi likes to travel mostly over rooftops and is a huge fan of chilling on fire escape stairs, likely to observe enemies from above and also enter jobs this way if it's not in open space. *My inspiration for that comes from Shiey – a pretty well known urbexer who does youtube series exploring mostly lost places and climbing up high building without any secure ropes but also does journeys from there to there and even produces his own music videos. Shiey does that what I'd love to do most. be free from all this daily shit. I love his mindset and thought it fits perfectly for Hizumi.
———
I definitely want to bring Hizumi into the game but I've been mostly waiting for one sided cyberware to be made as I gave Hizumi only a one sided eye cyberware (which is available now since a few months), but I'm also struggling with what body to give them as Hizumi is nonbinary — I don't see her as female, neither as male and neither of the bodies currently available does really fit (I'll likey have to use vanilla female with flat chest) and then the next problem awaits me; their hairstyle … and the clothings at last. it's a pain.
But Hizumi is part of the big CP story, they do not appear all the time as they are not a full team member and travel a lot between Night City and Toyko but I want them to be a pixel char as well. And the same amount I'd love to take more "real" pics as well because I have a bunch of clothes that fit to them and I have my copycat demon of kabuki outfit as well (but currently none to take pics of me and I'm too lazy to do it myself).
So I think that was gushin or "information" enough for a certain while?
Also, since I didn't want to distrupt the numbering above I'll attach some pics of the Sasuke Inari Jinja shrine I talked about here the end of this post. Since they are also my own pics, my usual disclaimer attached as well: —
Please do not repost any of my art.

the sasuke!keiwa pic you just reblogged was what really made me think of the geats cast in the naruto world... and to think the person who requested that artwork seemed to have predicted keiwa's character arc... because this was done before we knew that keiwa would be revenge-driven like sasuke was.
Haha... yeah.
This was in the same vein that I NEVER thought that I ended up predicting the whole new Inari shrine thing for Ace as well as Tsumuri being a sort-of miko for the shrine for my TanuKitsune AU www

TENGAMI FOX SHRINE FULL
TENGAMI FOX SHRINE SERIES
More details hereģ. Sasuke Inari Shrine Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture – A pleasant 20-25 minute walk north of the Great Buddha takes you to this quiet and tranquil place. These foxes have come from all over Japan and, having done their job of protecting their shrines (too old or broken?!), now rest here in retirement. Takayama Inari-Jinja Shrine Tsugaru, Aomori Prefecture – Another one that requires some effort to get to but the reward is not just plentiful torii gates but a path leading down to the water lined with a long row of stone foxes in all different poses.
TENGAMI FOX SHRINE FULL
At the rear of the main shrine are hundreds of stone foxes, some covered in moss, lining the perimeter and leading to another shrine packed full of white ceramic figurine foxes. Jozan Inari-Jinja Shrine Matsue, Shimane Prefecture – This shrine lies just beyond Matsue-jo castle but is within the moat and it’s grounds. Toyokawa Inari Tokyo Betsuin Motoakasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo – Although Inari is often associated with shrines, this Tokyo branch is actually a Buddhist temple with remnants of shrine influences such as the torii gates and hundreds of foxes on display! This is something of a hidden gem in Tokyo. Tourists come here for the sight of the many bright red torii gates meandering their way down towards the turquoise-blue ocean but there is a folkloric fox story relating to the place which goes back many decades and involves a white fox visiting a local fisherman in his sleep. Motonusumi Inari Shrine Nagato, Yamaguchi Prefecture – Not the easiest place to get to but well worth the effort. This shrine is one of the most popular tourist spots in all of Japan due to it’s never-ending torii gates that wind up the mountain. More details hereĨ. Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine Fushimi-ku, Kyoto – The most famous entry here. Look closely at the floor on entry and you can see some mysterious fox foot prints in the cement. Shōzoku Inari Jinja Kita-ku, Tokyo – A tiny shrine but a really important one as it marks the starting point for the annual Fox Pageant on New Years Eve. However, there is this major centre of Inari worship which can be the final port of call on an eight gods of fortune tour of the area. Anamori Inari Shrine Haneda, Ota-ku, Tokyo – Unless you live out here, it’s very rare that you’d come out this way for anything other than the nearby Haneda Airport. Luckily, there’s always time for a compilation post or two so here are the best fox-related shrines in Japan that I’ve been to thus far…ġ0. However, they’re mostly in Kyushu so with travel restrictions at the moment it might be a while until that trip is realised. Sad times indeed but there’s still a few more places I want to check out.
TENGAMI FOX SHRINE SERIES
The surprisingly successful ‘On The Fox Trail…’ series is pretty much on it’s last legs.

White Foxes According to legend, Minamoto Yoritomo (1185–1333) had a dream where an Inari Fox messenger appeared and gave him strategic battle advice. Minamoto won his battles and gained the power to establish a new government in Kamakura where he became Japan's first shogun and to establish a new class of warriors called samurai. Nowadays, visitors to Sasuke Inari Shrine (established by Minamoto) offer prayers with a small white porcelain Inari Fox in hopes of achieving their own personal "battle" victory, which can range from giving birth to a child to winning an important business contract. The forest canopy enveloping the shrine has created a lush, green landscape where every last inch of every carved stone and wooden structure is covered in moss. This stands in stark contrast with the shiny new little white porcelain Inari Foxes that crowd every flat surface near the shrine.
