Use your library. The people who run my local library have been talking about downsizing their collection and it's already small. As for pirating books, the only way that's acceptable is if you had to go back in time, join a pirate crew, and sail the seven seas to get that elusive book being horded.
I literally have a larger selection of books on Shinto and Japanese gardens than my local library. 😆
Use your libraries. Use them before they get locked up behind pay walls driven by licensing fees. Yes, there are people who want to charge libraries for the privilege of lending out the books they own. Imagine a book store where you are expected to return the book when you're done with it. That could happen if we allow it. Or worse yet, libraries might vanish altogether. https://www.techdirt.com/2020/05/20/libraries-have-never-needed-permission-to-lend-books-move-to-change-that-is-big-problem/
"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.

Nogomi clay doll, Yutoku Inari Shrine INARI-KOMA
I've had this in my collection for some time. (It didn't start out as a collection...) For years I just assumed that it was a zodiac figurine. It is a Celestial horse that flies through the Heavens with Wish fulfilling jewel on its back and it is associated with/named after Yutoku Inari Shrine in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture.
I'd gotten all excited when I spotted it on ebay. I had an Inari horse and didn't even know it. The monetary value of this little one is about twenty dollars US, but often goes for a lot more on various web sites.

I was looking at a page about Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine Sessusue Shrine 2-9-89 Sumiyoshi, Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka City and the picture of the items they offer had me giggling. Bottom second from the end. Oh, that poor warn out piggy needed a ride. ;)
