Jon Hamm: I've worn everything on this show, from nothing to a rug wrapped around me to a beautiful bespoke suit.

Kate Carin (Costume Designer): When we see him at the bookshop for the ball, we thought it would be hilarious that Aziraphale had asked him to get really dressed up for it. So we did a bit of a homage to Liberace. So he's got a powder blue dinner suit that's encrusted with rhinestones. And then Douglas asked if we could do some sort of coat to go on top of it for one of the scenes when he leaves. So, of course, we didn't do just a coat. We did a huge ostrich feather coat, which we made from scratch.The girls did all the ombre on the feathers so it matches the dinner suit, gets lighter and lighter blue as it comes to the top, and then he's kind of surrounded by this halo of white feathers.

Sarah-Kate Fenelon (Producer): There is a shot when he emerges from the bookshop to meet all of the demons and say, like, I am who you're looking for, where he looks a little bit like an angel. And the silhouette of him kind of emerging in the light is very epic and is then just completely undercut by sort of, move out of the way. (video)

hello, i was late to the fandom so i might have missed out on this discourse but do we ever find out the real content of Ray's letter to Isabella? Is it something of a plot point the author hasn't developed in canon? If so, what would the plot be you think? Thank you so much!!

Shirai has never officially, explicitly stated in an interview what's in the letter Ray writes in chapter 22/S1 episode 7, but I've talked about this before and personally find it funny how he made a big deal out of the mystery surrounding it back in a 2019 Jump interview (translated here):

When I feel most people’s first guess as to what was in it after the escape arc concluded was eventually confirmed in December 2020 with the release of chapter 181.3:

A farewell letter from a son to his mother that reveals their biological connection when headquarters purposely kept it a secret.

It's meant to be such a huge revelation it stops Krone in her tracks and deters her from digging around in Ray's room further to discover the rewards he's been receiving for six years and the lighter fluid he's been stockpiling for five.

(Mystic Code Book Chapter 1 Q& A | Chapter 22; Krone evens whips out records she brought along in her suitcase from headquarters to corroborate what she's read.)

I've also talked before about how Ray's retaliation was threefold in its pettiness, and this letter falls into points 2 & 3. After years of bottling up his anger and resentment toward her, he wanted to incriminate her by implicating she at very least knew about the escape, potentially that she even helped with it, all because she knew of their biological connection and wanted him to survive (the same thing he wished she would have said to him back on his sixth birthday at the gate):

He found it sickening how she could choose to prolong her own life by sacrificing all his siblings over the course of her tenure at Grace Field. With this, he thought he would seal her death at the hands of the demons she groveled before like a dog, while he would die on his own terms as a human.

What he didn't count on was Isabella's prioritizing results over rules was something that was enabled by her mother, to the point they were willing to remove Krone from plant no.3 altogether.

Ray assumed Krone did not have the means to contact headquarters like Isabella did, so she would keep the bait and bide her time until presented with the opportunity to reveal it to someone higher in the chain of command. Ray assumed Krone would still be at Grace Field at the time of the escape, and that after he was dead and the four other oldest kids were gone and headquarters was looking for an explanation for how a blunder of this magnitude could have possibly happened, Krone would show her hand to usurp Isabella's position.

It's why he's so caught off-guard when Isabella reveals she made a move first.

As for why Shirai gave conflicting information about this, I'm assuming he wanted to leave the door open for multiple possibilities before his health tanked and he began aggressively cutting off story branches so he could still complete the series under his own power and maintain his sense of artistic integrity.

And that's how we arrive at the contents of the letter being what a lot of fans suspected from the jump.

[V]acationing together for the first time

When Ray woke up, he was alone. For a second, he wasn’t even sure where he was, but then memories from the night before came back to him: the fight with Mew, the drive to Nakhon Nayok, the confrontation with Sand. He was, quite frankly, shocked that Sand had let him stay, but he y would be lying if he said he hadn’t slept better in his arms than he had in weeks. Now, the sun was up, the birds were chirping, and Sand and Nick were nowhere in sight.

Ray sat up, stretched, and then made his way out of the camper. He half-expected Sand, Nick, and all of their supplies to be gone, but they weren’t. Instead, Sand was standing just a few steps away from the door, minding the grill where he had breakfast cooking. Ray was so surprised that he froze right there in the doorway, sure he must be hallucinating. The camper door slammed shut behind him and Sand looked up.

“Sleep well, Princess?” he drawled. He looked annoyed, but not angry. It was a start.

Ray threw his nose into the air, determined to act like he knew what he was doing, even though he didn't. “I did. Thank you for asking.”

Sand rolled his eyes. “Breakfast is almost done. Take a seat.”

Ray did as he was told and then looked around in search of Nick, but aside from the sounds of meat sizzling on the grill, birds chirping in the distance, and wind blowing through the trees, the campground was quiet. “Where’s Nick?”

“Probably halfway back to Bangkok by now,” Sand answered, turning off the stove and portioning out two plates of food. He handed one to Ray and then sat down at the table next to him.

“He left?” Ray asked. Sand nodded. Ray knew he should probably feel guilty about that, but he didn’t. He was happy to have Sand all to himself again. He took a large bite of his eggs and moaned at the taste. It had been a while since he had eaten.

For several minutes, the two of them ate in silence. Ray wanted to talk, but he didn’t know what to say. So he said nothing. The meal was over half-finished before Sand spoke.

“You shouldn’t have come here,” he said.

It wasn’t the reception Ray had been hoping for, but it was the one he had been expecting. He tried to hide the disappointment from his eyes. “It’s a public campground,” he said with a shrug.

“Yeah, but it’s not a public camper. You can’t just barge in on other people’s vacations like that, Ray. What were you thinking?”

“I was thinking,” Ray said, “that I wanted to see you.”

Sand scoffed. “Bit of a long way to drive for a booty call. Especially when you’ve already got Mew waiting for you back in Bangkok.”

Ray thought about explaining that Mew’s feelings for him weren’t sexual—that they hadn’t gotten anywhere near crossing that line—but he didn’t think it would help his case.

“Like I said,” he repeated through clenched teeth. “I wanted to see you.”

If Ray was being honest, it had been more of a need than a want. He had been so stupid, trading what he had with Sand for a chance with Mew—a chance that had never been anything more than a farce. Mew didn’t want him; Mew wanted Top. Ray had known that and yet he’d pursued him anyway, even despite the feeling in his gut telling him that things had changed. That what he had always thought he wanted wasn't what he needed. And now, he was left with nothing.

After his fight with Mew, he’d craved Sand's presence with a desperation usually reserved for alcohol. He’d needed to see him to know that he hadn’t ruined everything. To convince himself that there was still a chance—no matter how slim—that happiness was waiting for him over the horizon.

“I’ve missed you,” he said because it was true and Sand deserved to know it.

Sand didn’t seem pleased by his words. “I haven’t gone anywhere,” he said.

“Yeah, but...things have changed.”

“And whose fault is that?”

It was Ray’s. Everything was always Ray’s fault. Maybe he should just go.

“Are you mad I’m here?” he asked.

Sand glared at him as if he found the question offensive. “You shouldn’t have come. It was too late for you to be driving up a mountain. It was dangerous and stupid and—”

“That’s not what I asked,” Ray interrupted him. “If you don’t want me here, I’ll leave.”

“Not without me, you won’t,” Sand argued. “With Nick gone, you’re my ride home.”

Ray rolled his eyes. Sand was way too smart to be this oblivious. “Sand. Please. Just answer the question: Are you mad at me?”

Sand took three deep breaths before answering. “I’m mad,” he said and Ray’s heart sank, “that I’m not mad.”

Ray smirked. Now that was more like it. “Really?”

“God, I fucking hate you, you know that?” Sand snapped, getting up and grabbing both of their plates to dispose of.

“It’s kind of romantic out here, isn’t it?” Ray teased, ignoring him completely. “Almost like a date.”

Sand didn’t answer him as he scraped their leftover food into a garbage bag and tied it off. Ray maybe should have given him some space, but that seemed like such a waste when they were somewhere so lovely. He stood and snuck up behind him to wrap his arms around his waist. Sand froze.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Hugging you,” Ray explained unnecessarily. To his surprise, Sand let him for a solid ten seconds before he set the plates down and turned in his arms.

“I didn’t tell you you could hug me,” Sand pointed out. Ray wasn’t aware he needed to ask for permission.

“Thank you for breakfast,” he said and then lifted up onto his tiptoes. “I’m going to kiss you now.”

And he did, placing a single, chaste peck on Sand’s lips. When he pulled away, Sand was standing in front of him with his eyes closed as if maybe, just maybe, he had enjoyed the kiss too. Ray preened and when Sand opened his eyes and noticed, he pushed him away.

“Go get changed into something of mine,” he snapped, ushering Ray back towards the camper. “We’re going to the lake.”

That did not sound like fun at all. “Why? So you can drown me?”

“No. So I can enjoy the rest of my vacation that you so rudely interrupted. You coming or not?”

Although Ray would very much like to turn up his nose at the thought of touching nature, he didn’t have the luxury of saying no. If it would make Sand happy, he would do it. After all, he owed Sand a little bit of happiness after everything he had put him through.

Kate Carin (Costume Designer): I was very adamant that I would need manufacturing on this job, because it gives you an opportunity to create things that you can't just find on the shelf and you can then really create worlds. I felt that Shax's, for me, from the outset, was always going to be red. In her final look when she comes back to lead the demons in the battle against the angels, I said to her, 'Will you wear a red leather catsuit?' And she said, 'Yes.' So we made her a red leather catsuit. And then I said to her, 'What about if we give you really, really great kind of animalistic shoulders?' So we made her huge leather, scaly shoulders, which she also donned, no problem at all. You'll see on the front of her armour is the stork, which is the Shax's demon's creature animal, so we had that embossed.

Sarah-Kate Fenelon (Producer): It's like the Neil Gaiman version of whata demon would wear when they were going, you know, she looks fabulous, but she also looks fierce.

Miranda Richardson (Shax): It's amazing. My many pointed armoured breastplate, which is very useful for anything that anybody wants to get rid of before a shot. I can just tuck up there. I've got my phone up there, I've got my script sides up there, coffee up there, you know. (video)

there are sometimes who is strange in all the side-information that we have about TPN.

In a interview, the author told that Grandma was the one to choose the names of the babies.

But in a bonus comic, Isabella tells Ray, Emma and Norman how she choose their name.

So either she lied...

Either that's a incoherence.

Either Grandma didn't name the kids who were going to Isabella to let her "daugther" names them as she want.

....either Grandma had given other names to kids who were going to the Grace Field House 3 an Isabella deliberally changed the names in a way to say "f*** you" to her former guardian (since the demons didn't care about the names) and claim the kids as her own. Carol is the only one to not have had a change of name because of Krone presence.

I don't know why but the last idea is hilarous to me ^^"

I default to the bonus comic being the most accurate to simultaneously keep any sisters in HQ from potentially getting attached to the infants by giving them official names and to make the moms more endeared and caring toward the children they named themselves (for reference for anyone who hasn't seen it; a reward for scoring high on the official site's IQ test:)

Unless Shirai meant Sarah named them literally right before handing them off to the moms in the plants, but I don't believe she'd care enough then or at any point after becoming Grandma.

That last one is funny though dlkfjsd

The little petty ways you get back at your mom when you're both victims and perpetrators of a violent system.

But you're right; Shirai's said some conflicting things over the course of the series' run that I think come from being run ragged by a hellish production schedule and a work just naturally evolving as opposed to being antagonistically contrarian to spite fans he views as obnoxious.

The other two that readily come to mind are Shirai saying the series could range anywhere from 10 to 30 volumes long…

…before his health took a nosedive and saying it was always going to be 20 volumes at most, with him wanting to maintain his sense of artistic integrity by completing the series on his own terms (the similarities between this and the way Yoshihiro Togashi ended Yu Yu Hakusho, one of TPN's biggest inspirations, is sadly staggering).

And him (and Sugita) being purposely mum about how he felt about Noremma when speaking with Cloverworks staff during the production of season 1 in 2018 compared to what he mentioned to Kendo Kobayashi in an earlier January 2018 interview, assuming he ultimately wanted to leave it up to the audience's interpretation rather than imposing his own (Demizu notably interprets all the relationships in the series as platonic).
