Honkai Star Rail X Arknights | Yandere!Sunday X Sankta!Reader | Part Three
Sunday sits you down in a room that you can only compare to a conference space. You had walked through a long corridors littered with sparkling windows, golden statues. There was a room with a mini city in the centre. You didn't get a chance to look around though, Sunday was insistent that you follow close to him.
The room was round with an evenly round table, place eerily perfect in the center. Tall bookshelves that reach the ceiling cover the walls, some having library ladders next to them.
"Make yourself comfortable," Sunday says casually, running his finger tips across the top of the table as he makes his way to his seat, "We might be here for a while."
You uncomfortably shift within your seat, the cushion beneath you not as comfortable as you'd expect. Your poor ass.
"Now," Sunday interlaces his fingers, "Where should we begin, hmm? We already had polite introductions, what should we do next?"
You can't help but feel a bit uneasy; his casual demeaner is so off putting. You leg begins to bounce rapidly, a nervous tick you picked up.
You attempt to clear your throat.
"Well... let's go over what we already know," you say, trying to regain control over yourself.
You scoot a little in your chair, straightening your back and folding your hands.
"I am (Y/n), codename: Lamplight. I am a combat specialist and medical researcher in Oripathy. Uh... I'm from the region of Laterano, species: Sankta. I currently work under the association 'Rhodes Island' under the direction of Doctor Kal'tsit, Doctor Loriann, and Amiya. Uh... there's nothing really else that comes to mind... Oh! I am also highly dangerous as I am infected with Oripathy."
Sunday sits quietly, his lips lightly pursed, eyes closed as he takes in all this sudden information. All of these things... he's never heard of a single one of them. Sunday takes a deep breath before letting it go through his nose.
"Alright. Thank you for your introduction. Let us first go deeper into these statements. In return, I will explain as much and equally about me and the world around you. Does that seem fair, Lamplight?"
You nod your head, eyes slightly wide at him referring to you by your codename.
"Good. Then let's start with this 'Oripathy' you speak of. You say you're a researcher in this field while also being... infected?"
Your hands fiddle with one another, once again shifting uncomfortably in your seat. You clear your throat again.
"You just had to start there, huh...?" you say with a somber tone, "Alright, I'll tell you everything I know."
You begin to explain your home, how a powerful and dangerous material, 'Originium.' You explain the usages it has... and the horrible, deadly effects it has on the human body. You even roll up the pant sleeve to show a small collection of black crystals forming on the side of your shin. You even told him how you became infected.
"I was on a mission with Doctor Loriann when I got pierced by a Originium lump. Luckily, The Doctor was right there and was able to immediately slow and contain the growth of the Oripathy. I'm glad that I don't use Arts, or the growth would be a lot faster. You don't know just how lucky I am to have my Oripathy growth so slow. Other infected would kill to have theirs infection be so well maintained. I just hope it gives me enough time to live a somewhat fulfilling life."
Sunday's gaze during the whole time never left your form, and once you showed your leg, his eyes never stayed from the crystallin chunks that speckle your skin. He attempted at one point to touch, but you quickly grabbed his hand.
"I wouldn't, not unless you want to be infected too."
It was more of a warning than anything, of course, but you could never be too sure. You would never forgive yourself if you got an innocent person infected.
"I see... Well, let's continue our conversation, shall we?"

"So, you're saying it's still alive in there?"
"That's the theory, anyway. I believe the purpose of the patron firearm system is to provide reinforcement of the Law. But I feel that there is no point in seeking it out at this stage, at least not for me."
"Ezell..."
"There's only one way to be sure." Gesturing across the table, the Sankta gestures at the disassembled shotgun, kindly smiling towards the Doctor. "Now, which part of the firearm contains the fragment of God?"
_ _ _
The empty laboratory clicks open with barely a hiss, thanks to the clever use of a magnet at the top and bottom. It's stupid, you know? All of this technology for monitoring these top secret projects defeated with something a child has decent odds of keeping around as a curiosity. W chuckles to herself as she quickly shuts the door behind her, slipping in. A handheld light clicks on as she surveys the room. Her eyes widen.
*Well, well*, she thinks. *Guess I'll be adding this to my collection next.*
Reaching across the table, she starts to reassemble the firearm beginning with its smallest pieces. But as she moves to affix the firing pin, a curious thought strikes her as though from afar-
*YOU'LL DO.*
There's an explosion like the report of a firearm, and then nothing.
- - -
She comes to some time later, the mist of the fire suppression system making her vision hazy. Of course it's that damn Doctor in their stupid idiot mask. Must've been some kind of intruder countermeasure. She squints against the light, eyes trying to adjust. "Ugh... could you shut that damn thing off? It's getting in my eyes."
The Doctor gives a look of concern, brow furrowing detectable even through the darkness of their mask. "...no," they say, carefully and diplomatically.
"I get it, okay? I'm in the damn doghouse. Just shut that thing off or at LEAST turn it down."
The Doctor pulls out a compact mirror, flipping it open with one hand, and shows W her own reflection. She squints against the glare a moment before her eyes widen.
The lights are not on in this room. The only source of illumination is coming from just above W's brow, with more behind her splaying out. She flexes her shoulder back as she grabs the compact in wonderment and shock, and she sees the wing behind flex also, it's fragmentary components splaying out like fingers widening from a fist.
"Uh oh."

I wrote some stuff about liberi in Laterano that I don’t know if I’ll include in my fanfic, but I thought you might find interesting.
====
Exusiai rolled her eyes. “No, Laterano doesn’t have laws against miscegenation. Sankta who have children with elders or ancients are as rare as sankta who don’t have children at all.”
She turned to Texas. “Bison wouldn’t seem like such a good idea if you knew for a fact that any kids you had would be born deaf and mute, right?”
The other girls at the table blanched. Sora asked, “Is it really that bad?”
“Our small population isn’t the only reason you see so few sankta outside of Laterano. It’s actually quite scary to leave home and feel like you’ve gone deaf because no one around you is making a ‘sound.’ And at the same time, it’s like no one can really ‘hear’ you either.”
She laughed at herself. “We think we’re ready for it, because Laterano has so many liberi. But it’s not the same at all. We have no idea how much Lateran liberi adapted to live with us until we meet a foreign liberi.”
“Like how?”
“Hmm. I think Lateran liberi make more noise; they talk a little louder, tap their feet, knock on walls. Unless they’re trying to be sneaky, they want to let us know when and where they’re around, without halos. That might be why we sankta started doing the same, to return the courtesy.
“Also, they look you in the eyes more, and make bigger expressions. Big smiles, big frowns, big gestures with their plumage. It’s a big shock to meet the first liberi who doesn’t try at all to let you know how they feel.”
Croissant spoke up. “Y’reckon yer own big smiles were a way of returnin’ courtesy? Instead of relying so much on yer halos that you all end up as flat-faced as Texas?”
Texas reacted not at all, which itself proved the point.
“Huh,” Exusiai said. “It’s weird to think about, but yeah. I suppose that’s possible.”

How halo-empathy re-contextualizes our Sankta Operators
I'll ignore Ezell (Enforcer) for this post, as we got to know him at the same time as we learned about halo-empathy.
Adnachiel
"In a show of humility, Adnachiel stands helpless in the face of loftier, theoretical topics, though everyone assumes he's just being modest. After all, as soften spoken and kind as he is, Adnachiel gives off the impression of being a clever and considerate young man."
Adnachiel didn't have to deal with that sort of misunderstanding in Laterano, where other Sankta would feel that he isn't being modest when a topic falls outside of his understanding of deterministic, mechanical principles.
On the other hand, he left Laterano before he was the requisite 12 years old for receiving his patron gun. We don't know how long he's lived in virtual exile before he became Infected (and thus exiled for real), but it seems like long enough for him to have adjusted to managing the expectations of non-Sankta.
Of course, that doesn't mean he can stop people from spreading exaggerated rumors about his intelligence and foresight, especially when he's got enough of both in reality.
Probably, his perceptiveness and analysis also helped him adjust to the necessity of watching and listening to other people to guess their state of mind. Philosophical theory is one thing, but facial expressions and vocal tones tend to have clearly observable meanings.
(Though I'm left wondering if his parents lied to him about the reason why they took him away from Laterano as a child. When a potential bully and a potential target both feel each other's emotions, would bullying still happen? Maybe this was an early-writing fluke?)
Arene
Where Adnachiel opened up to other people and studied them in return, Arene displays more introverted, self-focused tendencies.
Arene's troubling lack of sympathy for other people could owe to the several years he's spent exiled from Laterano following his infection with Oripathy, "from an early age". Younger than 12 years old, when Sankta normally receive their patron firearm.
Spending his formative years separated from his parents and surrounded by people from whom he could sense no emotions, with an underdeveloped ability to read emotions normally, and possibly with a unconscious sentiment of Sankta racial superiority, it's perhaps not surprising that Arene displays sadistic, solipsistic tendencies.
His third Archive File further mentions that he "tends to be a little sheepish around some of our other Laterano operators". One assumes this refers to other, unfallen Sankta who not only remind him that other people have internal lives of their own, but that there are some people who can still see right through him.
Ambriel
She's not just evading her taxes; she wanted to live where no one could empathically sense her desire to slack off. Possibly.
For that matter, her choice of weapon not only lets her avoid direct confrontations of a physical, mortal nature… the farther she could deploy from other members of the Lateran Guard or Notarial Hall, the less likely they could see or feel her slacking off.
When the Notarial Hall employed her to watch out for and locate students playing hookie from school, did they hope to inspire her to change by confronting "herself"?
Executor
He and Oren confirm that despite his apparently darkened halo and the unexplained device clamped onto it, he's not fallen. He's very much capable of sensing the feelings of other Sankta. He just doesn't care. Possibly, he thinks that feelings do not change facts, and he bases his decisions on facts.
This does not contradict what he says in his third Trust line. Rather it must mean that when he says, "I cannot understand other people", he cannot understand the reasoning of other Sankta despite knowing their emotional state. His actions could anger another Sankta close enough for him to feel their anger, but he doesn't understand WHY his actions provoked that response.
Exusiai
Texas: "Exusiai is my polar opposite. She seems to get along fine with anyone, but lets very few people close to her." Exusiai: "Texas is a handful. Even when she lets you close, she won't spare more than a few words. It took me a long time to figure out whether we were cool or not."
Exusiai grew up never needing someone to say more than a few words; she could know how they felt. She had to learn how to read someone as tactiturn as Texas because Sankta don't understand subtler body-language or unspoken words within words. Texas outright tells us that Exusiai finds it very hard to really TRUST other people; Texas had to prove herself through actions because Exusiai can't peek into her mind.
Which makes Exusiai's pledge of loyalty to the Doctor more impactful; even without halo-empathy, she's utterly convinced she understands and agrees with the Doctor. ("Leader… No, savior, I pledge this gun in my hand to protect you until the very end of this world.")
Mostima
This explains so much about Mostima, whom probably already wasn't the most social of Sankta. Before she fell, she had the Sankta empathy to assist her. Fiammetta didn't, but Fiammetta was raised by Sankta and knew how to bridge the gap, so Mostima still didn't have to learn anything. But after she fell, she lost almost all connection to other people that she'd taken for granted, and the effort to reconnect didn't seem worth the trouble.
Exusiai goes crazy not just because Mostima won't use her words to explain, but because words are all Mostima has any more and she was never good with them. Exusiai can't feel Mostima's feelings anymore.
This also brings a new dimension to how the Doctor managed to reach Mostima, and convince her that maybe making new human connections wasn't such a hassle (for her) after all. ("…I see now. When I thought of having a friend like you, the spark of joy I felt wasn't fake after all. Scrap what I said before, Doctor. Maybe I do need a bit of warmth in my life.")

Honkai Star Rail X Arknights | Yandere!Sunday X Sankta!Reader | Part Two
You have always been a sensitive sleeper, not necessarily light, but very aware of what was happening to your body when unconscious. You could feel every poke, prod, and needle that touched your skin, no matter how deep your sleep was. And right now, you can feel someone touching you, probably trying their best to wake up you.
You shiver and twitch at the sudden touches. The cold touch was definitely The Doctor's gloved hands.
Sunday, who has been leading you away from the bright and colourful lights of the city seems to notice this agitation. The feathers on one of his wings twitches slightly, not so dissimilar to a cat's ear hearing a sound behind them.
"Are you alright?"
You rub your arm across the goosebumps that now liter your skin, hair prickling against the fabric of your glove.
"Fine," you say through gritted teeth.
Sunday, in one swift motion, turns directly around to face you, his seemingly imposing presence staring down at you. His heels snap together, hands pressed against his back in a professional manner. He leans in towards you, a light seemingly emitting from his halo.
"Lying is a bad habit."
You don't get why, but chills and anxiety flood through your blood system. You can feel your heart beating faster, so fast, in fact, you wonder if Doctor Loriann noticed the spike. You can almost feel their fingers pressing against your neck.
"I'm not lying," you bite back.
You're a combat specialist, along side being a medical researcher. You're not going to back down to some man in a suit. This man probably has never had a physical fight in his life.
His eyes suddenly feel like they're burning, searing, into the calloused flesh of my body. You can't help but feel itchy, like thousands of spindly spiders are crawling underneath the surface of your skin.
You'd almost rather deal with your Oripathy pains than this uncomfortable feeling. You can't help but swallow a sharp pain in your throat.
After agonizing seconds, Sunday looks away. He straightens his spine, his eyes closed with contemplation. It looks as though his wings extend a little, a similar tactic as a bird to increases their size.
"May The Harmony forgive your words," he mutters under his breath.
Sunday turns back around in a sharp and crisp movement before raising his hand, a sign to continue to follow him.
You can't argue, he's apparently an authority in this place... Then it dawns on you...
"U-Um... I know that this is a little late to ask, b-but what is your name?"
Sunday casually looks over his shoulder, the lights of the city in front of him giving him a glow.
"Hmm? Did I never introduce myself? I deeply apologize. My name is Sunday Oak, head of the Oak Family. And you are?"
You bite both of your lips, feeling the plush between your teeth.
"Um... I-I'm (Y/n)... but you can call me Lamplight... It's my codename."
"Lamplight? Codename? Why would you need a codename?"
"... It's not important."
Sunday hums lightly before cooing.
"You'll tell me eventually. You are going to be questioned after all. Don't forget, you're under suspicion as a stowaway into the Dreamscape."
You can't help but grumble, kicking the ground slightly in annoyance.
"Sack of dirt-- Feather Faced-- Stupid freaking--"
❥ Sunday wishes so badly he could read your thoughts. He wants to know anything and everything, wanting to pick your brain apart.
❥ Sunday who has to restrain himself from immediately using the power of The Harmony that was so graciously gifted upon him.
❥ Sunday who wishes to punish you as the sinner you are.

Honestly to me the biggest revelation of the new event is that Exusiai is actually a fairly normal example of a Laterano Sankta^^
