wanted to give myself a little art challenge this year by drawing the same subject everyday to see how i progress & to keep myself motivated and on task, ive focused it to one of my special interests (sarah jane adventures, particularly luke smith)! its been so fun so far, the limitation on subject (ive skirted the edges on this rule by including other characters, but lukes the main focus so ill allow it :P) has allowed me to test different brushes and the scheduling has forced me to ease up on my perfectionism anxiety.

anyway!!! just to avoid any confusion, all of these have the @ bannermanroad on it which is my twitter, where ive been uploading these first (and daily), but ill be uploading these here weekly!! heres the first batch [1/1/24-7/1/24]

Luke: no, sorry

Sanjay: can I borrow some of yours then?

Luke: Normally I'd say yes but I need to get my prescription tomorrow. I've been borrowing Clyde's.

Rani: oh just have some of mine, but I think I saw your pill box in the bathroom

Sanjay: does it have stickers on it?

Rani: I think it had a dinosaur on it

@bluebirdflynn7 asked me ab my thoughts on ep 3 and i was debating putting my thoughts of rani takes on the world on here anyway so i thought i’d just ramble. chaos assured below:

this was my first bf audio in a month, so it was an easy audio to hop into, especially since its the start of a new series. the vibe of it is also pretty chill and lovey (at least for the first two audios). here today definitely had a weird vibe, at least to me. idk if it was because it was focused more on sarah janes impact on rani or what, but it just seemed off (it reminded me of her eighth of march audio). also i am very aro and this episode was very romance centered so that could also attest to my mixed feelings of it.

i also have to talk about the phat elephant in the room, which is clyde and rani’s relationship

i had a lot written ab this but then my tumblr live un snoozed and it didnt save my draft so i’ll make it brief: i was very annoyed at the fact bf once again added a partner to a beloved ship for tension and i find it unnecessary and stupid. gladly, i guessed the plot twist with phoenix and now the confirmation will be stretched out for 15 more boxsets and a special

on a realer note, i really enjoyed their dynamic, and rani’s un(requited) feelings about clyde and their slow shift from friends to friends-who-like-each-other-but-dont-know-if-the-other-reciprocates-so-they-try-to-hide-their-feelings-but-fail-miserably

destination wedding was my favorite out of the three. i liked how the addition of gita helped balance out the more serious moments with rani. her inner turmoil was so fun to listen to, as she talked with tiff about her own missed opportunities and how she would live life differently.

the witching tree had an interesting (and dark) concept that tugged me in. the end all kinda blurred for me, but that also could have been bc i was listening to it in public and wasn’t paying the most attention lol. rani and clyde continued to serve this episode and them constantly having each others backs no matter what made my heart happy (guys they need each other)

im interested in how the next boxset will continue, as we have Luke (!!) and Miss Wormwood back. I also want to see how many boxsets it will take before they make clani canon, bc i know bf and this shit could drag out for years

overall, pretty good boxset. i kinda wish it was more adult (like concepts grew with the characters) and a bit less “oh sarah jane this and sarah jane that” but it was nice to hear clyde and rani again

I want to write a little Dr who fic based around Phebe Waller-Bridge's crashing (episode 2, where Sam doesn't want to be alone before his Dads ashes are scattered but he is also incredibly shit at communication)

except it's 13, and she takes her companions on surprise trip, except it's in west London in 2025, and they're just wondering round, but it's clear that she is headed Somewhere. She's not rushing them- not really but it's not their normal exploring, she keeps checking the time maps and is definitely leading them in a direction. AND she's not wearing her normal coat. And they got the tube, central from Marble Arch to Notting Hill Gate, then district line to Ealing, and despite all the fam's now half-assed questions she's not letting on where they're going or why they've been wondering round Ealing for the last hour.

But when she joins up with a small group of people all in black somberly trudging up a road, smiles fondly at some of them. The black coat makes sense. She makes a b-line for 2 men holding hands, with her hands firmly in her pockets and eyes anywhere but the man whose shoulder she's just tapped, she clears her throat 'I'm sorry about your mum Luke. She er- I uhm, Mr Smith sent coordinates to the tardis and - I ah she-' he stops, subsequently so does the man on his arm, 2 paces later when she looks up she stops too 'she asked me to give you this-' she pulls a thick envelope from her pocket, stretching out an arm as far as she can. She digs around with her other hand in the same pocket and places something to the other man's hand 'Sanjay, she said not to open this for a week, erh sorry'

'doctor?' The first man (Luke?) Chokes. She shrugs. Bypassing the envelope, he hugs her. She tenses with a grimace. He pulls back. 'Sorry I- I'm so sorry. I' his eyes are leaking now

'So am I. I missed too much of her life to really have the right, but I miss her too' her eyes are red and shiny.

Last look for Sanjay Smith in Return Of The Bane.

Ngl really hoping Rose Noble in the shot with UNIT in the S1 trailer is uh, Rose helping UNIT and that's all, because uh, if they say Rose is now working for UNIT, not only would it be annoying cause again shoving any character into UNIT now but on top of it, iffy with the military organization recruiting children, as Rose last we saw her was confirmed to be 15.

Apparently Luke Smith from the Sarah Jane adventures was meant to come out during the series. during lockdown the actors came to get her in a tribute to Sarah Jane Smith and her amazing actress Elizabeth Sladen “farewell, Sarah Jane”. During this Luke says that it was his mother who told him that Sanjay “was looking at me in that way and she’s the one who told me to go and talk to him, and now we’ve been married for five years” effectively making him a canon queer character.

It’s always incredible to have a show that was so important and influential in your childhood to acknowledge and support your community. Sarah Jane was always such a support mother and it’s nice to see that her support continued in this way, it’s a lovely continuation of Luke and Sarah Janes dynamic and I just wish that it had been part of the original series.

all I want in the next season of doctor who is for Luke Smith to come back as a companion with his husband Sanjay it would be perfect for all is sja kids who have grown up now

finally got around to watching nimona. first impression: the trans allegory is so so so textual. i saw that trans flag in the background you CANNOT convince me thats an accident ok. im so feral about the lighting design (the credits list 18 lead lighting artists!!! and an additional 21 shot lighting artists and 2 technical lighting artists!!!!). i literally cried at that one shot with the spotlight from the top right down to center on one person and the other person unlit in the left side of the frame bc Augh The Symbolism
