the whole Rorvan and Taris situation doesn't get enough credit for just how fucked up it is for Romana to find out. imagine being someone who's never felt you've been able to let out your inner child, even when you WERE a child, imagine thinking you grew up alone, lonely and only ever making your own fun and then imagine you find out that that's not even true. you had these two friends you played with, got into scrapes with and messed about with and they were removed from time so they never existed. Romana was always so proud of her achievments at the Academy because that's what she did with her childhood, that's all she Could do, and she puts that down to how hard she studied and how much she removed herself from other people but then she learns that isn't true, and she did have friends at first and that didn't affect her grades at all. and if that's true then what was all the pain for? nothing. it's not something Romana really reacts to in full in the story itself which is a shame but i don't doubt that once she was back on Gallifrey she had to take a moment to herself just to fully process what had been stolen from her
Just listened to the Union - the latest Once and Future from Big Finish and, whether or not I find it good, it's definitely a wild time if you listen to it with the context of DID/OSDD systems. Definitely hoping it's not intentional bc if this is an intentional allegory then YIKES,, big finish and plurality has a god awful track record
Did anyone else who has listened to Torchwood: Thirst Trap find it kind of... disappointing and OOC? I was excited to listen to it given that Tom Price had written it, and GDL’s stuff about Ianto has always been excellent, so I was hoping for a similar ‘insider insight’ into the character of Andy.
What I actually got was a load of really weird, unnecessary fat jokes about Andy (made about himself, which when it was written by the actor who plays him just seems odd) and Rhys doing THE most out of character thing humanly possibly and apparently intending to cheat on Gwen because... she wasn’t giving him enough attention? Tom what?
the ridiculous thing is that at some point I'm going to wind up paying twenty dollars to be horribly traumatized by Big Finish killing off Four in the Unbound audio
for weird reasons (o yea departed days of VHS) Logopolis was the first Fourth Doctor story I saw. I'd already seen the Five Doctors by then. It watched to me like an utterly exhausted man relinquishing the job to Peter Davison, the natural course of time. These things happen.
The Unbound audio trailer is like, this isn't history this is now and it's gonna hurt
Primeval - No, not the dinosaur show that used to be on! It's back to really enjoying the stories again! Really enjoyed the in depth look and planetary lore that's explored in this story. Not only does it expand on the history of (spoiler alert if you haven't listened!!) Traken, it also provides some origins to what we see come The Keeper of Traken.
It's almost a neat loop for Nyssa, given the events that happened to her father. The performances were strong in this one, even the brief characters were delightful. A Davison/Davison (5/5)
Next up: Spare Parts. One l've listened to before but I'm so excited to go through it again!
