It had started with a bump of shoulders in the hallway. You were the new girl at your job, having only started two days prior. Your office wasn’t even completely settled in yet, just a lonely desk, chair, and mini fridge with no personality attached to it. But on that fateful third day, you were hurrying across your floor to meet with your assigned trainer, hoping to catch her before she took off for her lunch. That’s when you met him, unceremoniously at that, bumping against him in the hallway as a result of you being too busy looking down at your emails. But when you looked up to profusely apologize, you were met with the sight of the most beautiful man you’d ever laid eyes on. He had the features of a Calvin Klein model and the wardrobe of a CEO, but you could tell he was just a low-level executive like you were.
“No problem, sweetheart,” he responded with a polite smile, unbothered by your clumsiness. He even had the heart to offer to help you to your trainer’s office but you declined, mostly out of embarrassment. Little did you know, he had found your reaction extremely cute.
You had found out his name was Sangyeon. And he spent the new few weeks using any and every opportunity he had to get you alone and talk. In the copy room. In the lunch room. In the hallway after the exec meetings. Even on the walk to your car after punch-out time. Usually, if it was any other guy, you would find the behavior off putting, but it was him. Admittedly, you were falling for him.
All of the flirtatious mannerisms and private conversations came to a head on the night of a staff dinner. All the executives went out together after clocking out one Friday, and at the end of the night, Sangyeon offered to walk you to your car as he often did. Though, this time, with none of your coworkers around, he asked to kiss you. And you let him. And in the following weeks, you two began a relationship that could only be described as hot-blooded.
You two took turns visiting each other’s apartments for a secret rendezvous, but you keep everything professional at work. It was tough, but, man, was it exciting. It felt like a game sometimes, seeing how much you could get away with without making anything obvious. The fleeting glances. The secret touches. The stolen conversations in hallways. The notes left in each other’s desk drawers.
Sangyeon lived for the thrill of getting caught, often urging you to meet him in the bathroom during odd times of the day or meet him at a nearby abandoned parking lot for lunch to keep your meetings out of the eye of your coworkers. Each time, you left him while adjusting your skirt or some misplaced hair and he fixed his tie.
After one exec meeting, you followed the crowd out of the door, turning towards the direction of your office. And just after you turned the corner, you saw Sangyeon waiting for you at the end of the hallway, a knowing smile on his lips. He gave you a pointed look, then he was disappearing around the next corner. That usually meant he left something at your desk. Sure enough, once you opened your drawer you saw a note that had scrawled on it ‘meet me @ closet in 5’.
Five minutes later, you were being pulled into the storage closet at the far end of your floor where no one seemed to go as it was mostly only used for the fire escape. Sangyeon had his hands on you as soon as the door shut, his jacket was already knocked onto the floor, but he didn’t seem to care.
“You look so beautiful today,” he complimented you as he kissed your cheek, then your jaw, then your neck. All the while, his large hands were cupping the flesh of your thighs and ass over your skirt, “Couldn’t stop staring at you in the meeting.”
“I know, I’m starting to think Changmin is getting suspicious of us,” you giggled, your own hands grasping at his waist.
“I don’t care,” he admitted between kisses left along the side of your neck, “Wish I could tell everyone in this whole building that you’re mine.”
“You know we can’t,” you said, though you smiled at his words anyways. Your work had a no dating policy, and from what Sangyeon had told you, it was pretty strict. You were still too new to put your job in jeopardy for such a policy, but you didn’t mind your affair behind closed doors.
“One day,” he spoke those words like a promise, just as he was finishing unbuckling his belt. In minutes, he had his cock out (red and weeping for you) and your skirt bunched up around your hips. He grasped onto one of your legs, hoisting it up against his waist as he fed his dick between your thighs, wetting it between your folds. A content sigh left his lips at the sensation he had begun to know all too well, reveling in it.
“I have work I need to finish, Sangyeon,” you reminded him, tugging on his tie to bring him to reality. This only made him kiss you, passionately, in a way that had you forgetting you were even at work in the first place. Then you were the one sighing as he filled you to the brim with his cock, your walls clenching around him as they took in his girth.
“Fuck, you feel so good,” he whispered, taking a tighter hold on you as he began thrusting into you.
Your back thumped softly into the wall behind you with every bump and grind. The room was quickly filled with the sounds of you two fucking as well as the sounds of your heavy breathing and sorry attempts to keep your moans quiet. Sangyeon preferred to cover your mouth with his hand, liking the way you looked, but sometimes it wasn’t enough. So he ended up swallowing your moans himself, kissing you and moaning back against your lips.
“Tell me you’re close,” he said, feeling his orgasm approaching. His hot, ragged breath was warming your collarbones as he smothered the base of your neck with his gentle kisses, extra careful not to leave any marks on your skin.
“I am, just- just a little bit longer,” you assured him, squeezing his cock inside of you. That only made him let out a choked groan resembling an expletive. His hips hastened, and he urged you to cum for him. The sound of his sweet voice encouraging you did wonders, and soon you were cumming over him, making a mess of the both of you.
Luckily, this wasn’t your first rodeo, so he gifted you with a kiss to your temple before he reached over for the box of tissues he used to wipe you both. Once the two of you looked pretty decent, he gave you a few, chaste kisses before making his way down the hall to the bathroom on his side of the floor. You couldn’t help admiring the way he walked so confidently in his suit, adjusting his tie as he disappeared around the corner. You wondered how long it would take for him to find the note you had slipped into his pocket that read:
‘Meet me tonight. x’

lee sangyeon's (almost) villain origin story
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing : lee sangyeon x gn!reader
fluff , humor , slice of life , university!au
warnings : language , one suggestive scene
word count : 2.4 k
requested ? no
a/n : this is just pure self-indulgent sangyeon brain rot ,,, you've been warned ( aka. the epitome of "i write what i want to read and then toss it into the void" )
Tumblr media
Lee Sangyeon is a patient man. He babysits his young nephews, tutors underclassmen on weekends, and keeps his ten gremlins wonderful friends out of trouble. But his sanity is slipping. Granted, being president of the TBZ fraternity is hard work, but it's starting to feel more like running a daycare.
Though, with all its chaos over the years, rarely has he felt the need to wring anyone's neck out over a few minor inconveniences. Lately, however... well, his fingers start to twitch at the sight of his housemates.
And it's exactly that familiar feeling that begins to tingle at his fingertips when the infuriating voice of Kim Sunwoo follows the slamming of the frat house door. It startles Sangyeon from his dozed state and you as well. Flinching so hard your fingers that were previously twirling a lock of his hair pull painfully at his scalp. "Shit– oh! Sorry, babe." You hiss, petting his hair back down once you realize.
Sangyeon lifts his head from your lap solely to glare at the obtuse boy. His hands and arms adorned with multiple paper grocery bags and beer cases. "A little help would be nice," he jabs, mid-struggle to pile them onto the kitchen island before his strength gives out.
"A little peace and quiet would be nice." Sangyeon cuts, rolling back over to face the television. He stirs, stretching out his tired muscles before sinking back into the couch and your warmth. Desperately chasing the cozy feeling he'd been robbed of too soon.
"Is all that for the party tonight?" You ask Sunwoo. An innocent question for the sake of being polite that the boy somehow takes as an invitation.
"Almost all of it, Changmin is grabbing a few more bottles from the liquor store– is that Love Island?" He points, creeping up behind the sofa.
Whatever merciful God is listening. Please. No. Sangyeon begs.
"Yeah, it's the most recent–"
"I love Love Island– scoot!"
Sangyeon pulls his knees up just in time as Sunwoo jumps the couch, swinging his legs dangerously close to the glass coffee table, causing Sangyeon's fingers to twitch once more.
"Don't you have other things to be doing?" Sangyeon's voice is low in a silent warning. One Sunwoo purposely remains blissfully ignorant to.
"You know I personally like the British version better." He rambles on. Your boyfriend shoots you a pleading look. Whether he's begging you to do something or finding the strength to keep his cool, you aren't sure.
You give a pitiful shrug in return. Sangyeon just sighs, dropping his head to your shoulder. Perhaps the living room wasn't the best place for alone time.
Tumblr media
Surely, he couldn't be bothered in his room. He even added a "do not disturb" sign for good measure. Sure, Juyeon's music was a tad loud and he could hear tidbits of the show playing downstairs, but he could tune that out. Just a few more sentences and he'd be done with his paper and finally free to spend time with you.
"How much longer?" you ask, peaking over to where Sangyeon sits hunched over his laptop on his bed.
"Maybe like five minutes." He doesn't bother looking up from the word document. "I just need to figure out the phrasing on this, it's been driving me mad."
"You've been figuring it out four nearly two hours," you step over to the end of Sangyeon's bed. "Maybe you need to take a break and come back with fresh eyes."
He stubbornly shakes his head, running his fingers through his already messy locks. "I need to get it over with." At this point, you're standing right over him. Yet still, it's like you're not even there. Though you must admit, the focused scowl on his face is quite adorable.
"Sangyeon."
Nothing. Not even as you tilt down to his level does he pause his typing.
"Sangyeon." You call a little sweeter this time.
Again, nothing.
Having finally waited long enough, you tip his chin back with a single finger. He looks slightly miffed at first, but then his eyes land on your wardrobe. "Is that my shirt?" He whispers. Jaw slack as his eyes not so subtly roam every inch of the fabric, admiring how it hangs from your figure.
"It is." Matter of fact, it's not just his shirt, but a pair of his boxers as well. A detail that short-circuits his brain for a solid five seconds. It feels like he's been knocked in the chest, unable to say anything. His eyes flit from your outfit, to your lips, and back down.
"Sangyeon?" You purr.
"Yeah?"
"Click save."
You've never seen him move so fast. Throwing his laptop with such force it nearly flies off the bed. Sangyeon effortlessly pulls you over to straddle his lap, grinning so hard it makes you giggle.
"When did you even change into these?" His hands rest at your waist under the thin cotton tee, letting his pinky dip into the waistband of your, really his, boxers.
"I got bored and raided your closet while you had your nose buried in Microsoft Word." Your hands clasp behind his neck. "You don't mind, right?"
"Definitely not." Sangyeon's fingers dig into your skin as he sloppily attaches his lips to your own. He's greedy, like a prisoner starved for water on a hot summer day, but that doesn't seem to bother you.
"I'm gonna need this back though, you know?" He teases against your lips, pulling at the hem of the cotton covering your torso.
"You'll have to offer something in exchange."
"Now that," Sangyeon's eyes light up, "I can do–"
The door to his room flies open with a force so great Sangyeon half expects the Hulk to be standing in his door frame. The resounding bang of it ricocheting off the wall accidentally making Sangyeon dig his fingers a little too deep into your skin. It earns a yelp from you and you're shuffling off his lap in an attempt to escape his iron grip.
"Hyung–!" Eric exclaims, but takes a pause in his panicked state to greet you. "Oh, hi Y/N!"
"Hi, Eric," you wave awkwardly.
Sangyeon is scrambling to cover you with his comforter as fast as possible. Not that you're wearing anything particularly revealing, but it's still nothing Eric needs to see. Not that it matters, Eric doesn't seem too concerned with you or the state you and your boyfriend were previously in.
"Hyung, I need your help!"
Tumblr media
This is Sangyeon's absolute last resort.
Does he necessarily want to spend his only free period of the day with you in a noisy, crowded, cafe? No. He'd much rather be in his room with you curled up in his arms, completely and utterly alone. But so long as he lives with ten men who have never known the concept of privacy, he'll have to settle.
At least you seem happy with the lunch date he planned. Animatedly talking on and on about how you've been wanting to try this cafe. And if you're happy, then Sangyeon is happy. He'd count today as a success even if all he does is admire the beautiful pair of eyes across from him while you ramble.
"—Everything just looks so good, I don't know if I should go for a coffee or a fruity tea."
"Get both if you want." He offers, but you scrunch your nose up.
"That's a bit much, don't you think?"
"Then why don't you get a coffee, I'll get a tea, and whichever you like better you can have." A smile breaks out on your face at that idea.
"See, this is why I love you."
Yeah, Sangyeon thinks, this was a success.
Well. Almost.
"Sangyeon? Y/N?" Comes an unfortunately familiar voice. "What are you guys doing here?"
"Oh, you've got to be fucking joking," Sangyeon pinches the bridge of his nose as Kevin Moon and his impeccable timing make an appearance.
"We're on a date." He cuts, hoping the boy will get the hint to leave. But of course, he doesn't. Instead, Kevin pulls up an empty chair and plops down at the end.
"Have you guys been here before? It's my first time and I can't figure out if I want a coffee or a tea."
Tumblr media
Sangyeon gives up. They win. The ten little demons infesting his home win.
"Jail can't be that bad, right?" He ponders aloud as the two of you lay sprawled out on his bed. Even you've begun to notice your boyfriend's slow descent into insanity. And while you do feel bad, it is a little comical. "What's a few murder charges... or ten."
You listen to him rant, his head in your lap and arms encircling your hips. You continue to brush your fingers through his hair, hoping the action will induce some sort of calming effect.
He props his chin up on your stomach to look at you pouty lips and puppy eyes. "It's so unfair," he whines like a toddler.
"I think you'll live," you chuckle.
"I literally won't."
Like clockwork, there's a knock on his door. Sangyeon groans, exasperated. "Ohh my God, seriously?" He faceplants into your stomach. "You deal with them. If I do it I'm leaving in handcuffs."
"Come in," you call.
Haknyeon peaks in, frowning when he sees Sangyeon's state. "What's wrong with him?" He points.
"Everything."
"Nothing," you both answer. "He's just being dramatic. What did you need, Haknyeon?"
"Uh, well I was wondering if you could help me with a dilemma?" He asks shyly, tip-toeing the rest of the way in.
"What's the dilemma?"
He pulls two shirts from behind his back. "So, I finally asked out that girl in my class—"
"Aw, Hak, congrats!" You coo.
"—Thanks," he beams. "We're supposed to meet for coffee in an hour. Which shirt should I wear?"
"Whichever gets you out of my room the fastest," Sangyeon grumbles, voice muffled.
"Shush!" You slap the back of his head in warning. "I think blue would go well with your eyes, Hak." You smile and Haknyeon lights up.
"Okay, perfect! That's the one Younghoon and Jacob picked as well. Thanks, Y/N, thanks Hyung!" The boy is already turning on his heels as he calls out his thanks. Sangyeon lifts his hand in a half-hearted wave as the door slams shut.
"Be nice to him, he's excited," you chastise. "He's been ogling over that girl for months. This is a big deal for him."
Sangyeon sighs, propping his head back up. "I know it is, who do you think helped him pick out and iron his pants this morning?"
"They really look up to you, you know? That's why they're always bothering you for stuff."
Your warm palm comes to rest against his cheek. It's frustrating for him, always feeling responsible for everyone around him, you know this. And while his willingness to take on that challenge is something you've always admired, you do fear him getting burnt out.
Sangyeon frowns. "I know, I just wish I could have a few moments to be selfish. Is this how parents feel?"
You laugh at his remark. "I think even parents get more of a break than you do."
"Told you we should've used protection." He grins with his gummy smile at his own joke. Making you playfully flick his forehead.
Tumblr media
"Getting all of us out of the house at once is a big ask, Y/N." Jacob grimaces as takes a sip of his of his cold brew.
What was originally supposed to be an intense study session for your upcoming physics test quickly turned into you debriefing Jacob on Sangyeon's declining sanity. Which you're eighty percent sure Jacob only entertained as an excuse to procrastinate. Because it's been two hours and neither of you has so much as opened a single textbook despite his multitude of complaints about being unprepared.
"I know, but you're their vice president, isn't there something you can do? You could organize a charity event or something." You pout. "I'm suffering too here!"
"Even if I could find a way to convince ten—" he holds up both hands with fingers spread for emphasis. "—ten, that's one-zero, men to all clear out, I don't want to be the one babysitting them."
"You'd have Chanhee there to help."
"The odds of getting Chanhee to do anything outside of his job description are about as good as me passing this test." Jacob snorts, and all hopes of getting TBZ's treasurer involved are squashed then and there.
Jacob is your only hope, so you're going to have to lay it on thick.
"Come on, Jacob, please. Sangyeon really needs the break."
"Don't give me that look." He jabs a finger at you.
"Please, Jacob."
"No."
You sink back into your seat, letting out a long and dramatic sigh. Attempting to look as pitiful as possible. And judging by the way Jacob's leg won't stop anxiously bouncing beneath the table, it's working.
"Don't do that," Jacob whines.
Silence.
"Okay, fine, I'll figure it out." He throws his hands up in surrender. "Just quit pouting and help me study."
"Thank you, Jacob," You perk up. "You're the best!"
"Yeah, yeah."
Tumblr media
The excited call you get from Sangyeon telling you to come over immediately comes sooner than expected. You're not usually one to question miracles, but you are curious as to how Jacob managed to drag everyone out of the house on a Tuesday night.
"Where is everyone?" You ask as Sangyeon tugs you through the front door.
"Don't know. Don't care." He smiles brightly. "What I do know, is I'm not touching a single textbook, laptop, or phone."
You aren't sure when the last time you saw your boyfriend this happy was.
Sangyeon plops down onto the couch, pulling you into his lap as he does so. "It's gonna be just me, you, some take-out, this couch, and the last season of Love Island Australia."
You snort. "You say that, but I'm betting twenty on you being knocked out by the end of the first episode."
"That's actually the plan," he grins smugly before pulling a blanket over his legs and letting his head fall into your lap. He's not even facing the screen. You're starting to think he just invited you over to be his personal pillow.
But you let him, because it's well deserved.

“Hey,” Sangyeon giggles, a goofy smile on his lips.
“Hi,” you smile back, making eye contact through the mirror.
Sangyeon steps closer and wraps his arms around you. You’re both still dressed up. Sangyeon has his suit on. He had tossed his jacket over the back of the armchair by your bedroom window. You still have your wedding gown on. Your hair is a little bit messier than when you first had it done this morning. The fun of your reception (mixed with some champagne and wine) led you to let loose and enjoy yourself after all the stress of planning and organizing your wedding was finally over.
“We’re married,” he beams, leaning down to kiss your neck.
You match his smile, moving your head to allow him space to kiss your neck, “We’re married.”
“You wanna shower and head to bed?” He asks, still kissing your skin, “We had a long day.”
You hum, “That’s probably a good idea.”
Sangyeon pulls away to undo the laces up the back of your gown. His hand barely grazes against your skin, but the faint touch still makes a shiver run down your spine. When Sangyeon helps you step out of the dress, he offers you your silk bathrobe. It’s nothing he hasn’t seen before, but your husband is always quite the gentleman. You tie the ribbon around your waist and wander toward the bathroom, passing by Sangyeon, who is carefully hanging your gown in the closet. You’re removing your makeup when your husband enters your en-suite. His white button-up is already open, letting you have a beautiful view of his muscular chest and abdomen.
“Enjoying your view?” He teases, a slight smirk on his lips as he tosses the shirt into your laundry basket.
“Very much so.” you match his energy.
Sangyeon comes up behind you again to help pull bobby pins and flowers from your hair. He does his best not to tug at any strands as he meticulously undoes the hairstyling. You continue to wipe away your makeup until your face is finally bare. Sangyeon cards his fingers through your hair, massaging your sore scalp. You hum contently, letting your eyes fall closed. When you look at him again, you see his eyes practically dripping with affection.
“What?” You ask, a small giggle invading your tone.
Sangyeon kisses your head, “I’m so damn lucky to call you my wife.”
You feel flustered suddenly and look away from him. Your husband kisses your cheek before stripping the rest of his clothes off and turning on the shower. You shake your head and remove your robe before joining him in the warm water. Even as you both shower off the day, Sangyeon still holds you close and continually kisses any place his can on your head, neck, and shoulders. The feeling of his skin against yours under the warm spray of the shower makes a warm, comforting feeling flood through your chest.
You practically collapse into your bed once you’re fully clean and finished your night routine. Sanyeon strides out behind you, his pajama pants low on his hips. Sangyeon crawls into bed next to you and pushes a lock of your damp hair out of your eyes.
“Tired?” He asks in a sweet tone.
“Mmm,” you mumble back, “I’m tired, but I’m more happy to lay down finally.”
You scoot up on your bed and curl up against your husband’s bare chest. He wraps an arm around you and rubs his thumb against your shoulder. It’s comforting, and you could ask for nothing more than this. The both of you stay silent for a few minutes, just enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
“Sweetheart,” Sangyeon nearly whispers, “do you think your mom was serious about grandkids already?”
You shrug, “She’s been saying stuff like that since she met you. You know mom just wanted to get you stuck in the family as soon as she could.” You laugh lightly.
You feel Sangyeon shift underneath you, “I think she’s right.”
“Sangyeon?” You question, lifting your head up from his shoulder.
Sangyeon searches your eyes for any apprehension, “I think it could be nice to start at least trying. Even if we aren’t seriously trying yet.”
You don’t respond with words. Instead, you lean up a little and kiss him. It’s a soft kiss, but the intentions behind it are anything but hidden. Sangyeon sighs happily into the kiss, wrapping his arms around your waist instantly. That familiar, comforting heat spreads through your body as you hear Sangyeon let out a low growl. He rolls you both over so you’re caged under him.
“Are you gonna let me fuck you full, sweetheart?” He whispers against your lips.
You nod, “Want it. Want it so bad.”
Sangyeon tugs his pants down and pushes your robe open, leaving you both mostly bare again. You whimper as he grinds against you. His lips only leave yours for a brief moment to take your hand in his and kiss your wedding rings before lacing your fingers together. The small gesture fills your stomach with butterflies. You feel him grind harder as he finally gets fully hard. Sangyeon whispers a small check to ensure you truly want to continue. The moment he pushes into you, you swear you ascend.
“You feel so good, sweetheart.” He groans, thrusting into you smoothly.
“Sangyeon,” you moan, “want you to cum inside me so bad. Wanna be bred by you. Please!”
A switch flips inside him, and he starts fucking you at an animalistic pace. He’s still careful with you, but this sudden change of pace has you seeing stars. With each thrust, he growls or moans something about fucking you full of his cum. Each comment makes you whimper and buck your hips up to meet his thrusts. His hand that was laced with yours releases you and wanders down your chest until it finds its way between your bodies. He starts to rub small soft circles against your clit. When you clench around him, he lets out a low growl.
“Your pretty pussy is gonna look so good with my cum leaking out of it.” He muses, “Maybe I should keep you stuffed with my cum all the time.”
“Babe, fuck!” You moan in response.
He chuckles, pressing a kiss to your clavicle, “We have a week and a half off for our honeymoon. I know we were going to have fun and explore the island when we arrived, but maybe I should keep you locked up in our bungalow and fuck you full all day, every day. Doesn’t that sound like a dream, sweetheart?”
You reach up and tangle your fingers in his hair as your orgasm washes over you. Sangyeon’s follows close behind. He fucks his cum into you as your walls flutter around him. The feeling of his cum inside you is one that you never want to forget. If you say it out loud, he would probably never let you leave bed again. As he pulls out, he watches how a small bit of his cum drips out immediately. He swipes his cum up with his thumb and starts to play with your clit again, using it as a lubricant. You whimper and squirm against his ministrations. Just as you feel heat start to swirl in your belly, he pushes his fingers into you.
“We can’t let my cum go to waste, can we?”
You shake your head in response.
“Let’s keep this pretty pussy plugged up until I can fuck you full of more cum then.”

Tumblr media
“sweet girl, you are more than we ever expected and better than we ever imagined”
The word perfect isn’t a word you would use very often. Especially when it comes to your life. Nothing about your life has been simple. You had a distorted vision of what perfect might look like due to your parents' crumbling marriage. Fighting and screaming all the time wasn’t exactly the image of a picturesque marriage.
There was a period in your life that you used to want to forget. The fucked up image of love that your parents engraved into you made you run through guys like they were going out of style. Each one was worse than the last. You swore you’d give up on love after your last boyfriend. That was until you met Sangyeon.
Oh sweet Sangyeon. A dashing, lovable man that managed to steal your heart, and the hearts of many others. Sangyeon was an idol, a star amongst the stars. He was the main vocalist and leader of a very popular boy group, and no matter how much his members teased him, they wouldn’t lie when they said they depended on him a lot. Sangyeon was a natural born leader, great with anyone and in any situation.
The fact that you, in your must insecure and fucked up state, were able to catch Sangyeon’s eye was a feat in itself. When he approached you, you couldn’t believe it. What would an idol want with you? But he was so kind, so soft spoken and sweet. He made you feel so special, all the time.
Your relationship was secretive at first, with his idol image and him being a leader he had no choice. It was hard at first, your insecurities getting the best of you, but he never faltered. He never gave up on you. He fought tooth and nail to keep you and your relationship together. When the news came out, fans were supportive. Most of them at least. The good outweighed the bad, and the two of you couldn’t be happier.
People became even more supportive when Sangyeon proposed. The world seemed to be warming up to the idea that Sangyeon was beginning his life outside of being an idol. Which is why the news of your pregnancy wasn’t a surprise to anyone.
Sangyeon took the time to ease people into it, wanting people to understand that he was still the same old Sangyeon, except he’d be coming home to a wife and soon, a daughter.
Preparations for your little girl were in full swing. Gifts being delivered, cute cards, diapers (because you can never have enough), clothes, balloons. Your little apartment that seemed to be perfect for you and your little family was beginning to seem a little crowded. Sangyeon didn't seem to mind, though. Too enamored with the idea of attending lamaze classes, and what you would consider his personal favorite, decorating the nursery.
In one of his very rare off days, Sangyeon had been spending the entire time buried in ripped open boxes, instructions, and pink and lavender colored paint cans that Kevin had specifically asked not to touch until he could get to your home. Hobbling from your place in the kitchen, one hand on your stomach and another on your lower back, you made your way towards the open door that smelt more new than the rest of the house. The pristine white furniture scattered all about, some even covered in plastic so as to not get droplets of paint on it in the future.
A smile makes its way to your face when you notice the three in one crib Jacob had bought for you guys was perfectly intact, Sangyeon standing over it proudly. As if hearing you at the door, he whipped his head around, a smug smirk on his face.
“I told you I’d get it done.”
Your husband was met with a roll of your eyes as he chuckled. “My hero.”
He swiped at his forehead with the sleeve of his shirt as he walked towards you. First laying a soft peck on your forehead, then bringing both hands to your growing stomach, leaning down to place an equally soft kiss on the top of it. Almost as if feeling him place the kiss, the baby kicked. The small bump hits Sangyeon on the tip of his nose as he scrunches up his face.
“Easy. I know I stink.” Sangyeon whispers to your stomach.
You giggle, bringing a hand to run through his slightly damp, dark brown locks as he stands up.
“Well, what do you think?” Sangyeon asks, gesturing to the bed.
“I think she’s going to need more than just a bed, Sangyeon.” You counter.
Sangyeon drops his hand, beginning to pout. “Well I know that! I’m not finished yet.”
This time you let out a chuckle. “Babe, it took you three days to put the bed together. At this rate, the nursery won’t be done when she arrives.”
Sangyeon looks around the room, taking in the still full cans of paint, the partial design that Kevin had started of white lilies that surrounded your daughter’s name, and the rest of furniture that still needed to be put together.
He smiled as he turned back to you. “Being parents is chaotic, right? You gotta expect the unexpected.”
You couldn’t help but smile back. “I think the saying is what to expect when you’re expecting.”
“Well we definitely didn’t expect this.”
A breathy laugh made its way past your lips as you made your way through the chaos, laying both hands on the baby crib. Sangyeon followed closely behind you, a firm grip on your hips to make sure you don’t fall. His senses were immensely heightened when it came to you and it seemed they were heightened even more if that was even possible now that you were pregnant. You hadn’t so much as lifted a finger for anything, Sangyeon being at your beck and call.
“What do you need me to do? Anything?” He questions.
You turn to look at him. “The blanket your mother knit, it’s in our room. Can you bring it to me?”
Sangyeon smiled, turning to make his way out of the room, but not before tripping over a ripped box that still holds pieces of the pale pink rocking chair that needs to be put together. His face turns beat red as he speed walks towards your room. You giggle at your husband’s cuteness as you turn back towards the crib.
Sangyeon put the purple sheets on the mattress, and had even placed the pillows on the bed. A teddy bear that Changmin had gifted you sat in the middle of the bed. You laugh to yourself as you remember the pleas Sangyeon made to the younger boy, promising not to get anything scary for your baby girl.
“I found it!” You hear Sangyeon yell, his fleeting pounding across the hardwood floor as he rounds the corner into the room.
The small, pink and white checkered blanket swings back and forth in his hands from the movement as he hands it to you. The soft material glides through your fingers as you lay it over the mattress.
Sangyeon lays a peck on your shoulder as he whispers. “Perfect.”
You smile as you let him wrap his hands around you. He brings them both to the bottom of your enlarged stomach, putting pressure as he lifts up your bump. You groan slightly as your husband chuckles from behind you. You feel him start to release his grip on the bottom of your stomach as you whine.
“Don’t stop.” You say softly, placing your hands on top of his.
Sangyeon snickers. “I think that’s what got us in this position in the first place.”
You couldn’t help but smile at his comment, a rush of heat blooming up your neck. You turn in his arms, slowly so he can gently let your stomach down from his hold. The size of your bump leaves a substantial amount of space between you and Sangyeon as you have to just lay your hands on your shoulders. Sangyeon looks you over as he smiles slightly.
“Stop stressing.”
You frown. “I’m not. I swear. I just,”
“Want everything to be done before she gets here. I know. Everything will be done, I promise. Some of the guys are supposed to be coming over later on today to help. Kevin wants to finish painting the room, Jacob and Younghoon are going to help me put together the rest of the furniture, and Eric and Sunwoo will…” Sangyeon trails off, making you laugh.
“Just keep them away from the paint. I have a sneaking suspicion more will end up on you all and the furniture than the walls.”
Sangyeon laughs as he leans forward to peck your nose. Your eyes close at the soft contact, feeling a bump at your stomach again, letting you know that your daughter has once again kicked.
“She seems to know when we’re being affectionate.” You tell Sangyeon.
He grins before you both head a cough.
“Don’t let me interrupt, but you should really start locking the front door.”
You both pull apart as Sangyeon speaks.
“Sunwoo, please stop just entering my house without knocking.”
You laugh to yourself as Sunwoo makes his way towards the two of you.
“I did knock. You guys were too enthralled with each other to bother hearing me.” Sunwoo says.
He bends down to whisper to your growing belly. “Hi baby! It’s your favorite uncle!”
You scoff playfully as he turns his head, laying his ear on your stomach, nodding as if the baby is talking to him. You look at Sangyeon who's watching his younger member in amusement.
“Saying anything interesting uncle Sunwoo?” You ask him jokingly.
Sunwoo lifts his head giving you a smirk. “Just that she likes me more than Jacob.”
You snort as you back away from the boy. You didn’t bother commenting back knowing that even he knew that statement wasn't true. Jacob was already the favorite uncle with how much your baby girl kicked whenever he was around. Everyone knew that, but you kept quiet so Sunwoo could have his moment. You were able to hear the chime of your keypad this time around as you heard more voices enter.
Sangyeon grabbed your hand, leading you into the family room where everyone was gathering. They all smiled and said hi, some giving your stomach light pats in a gesture to say hello to your unborn daughter. Just as you had expected, the moment Jacob patted your stomach the baby kicked making both you and Jacob laugh. Sangyeon gave out the assignments for everyone as they took off towards the nursery.
“Look at the fearless leader, leading the way to build a nursery.” You said softly.
Sangyeon grinned. “Who would’ve thought, huh?”
You heard commotion in the nursery as you sighed. “Oh boy.”
Sangyeon helped you over to the couch, turning on your favorite show as he pecked your forehead. “No more stress. Everything gets done before she gets here. I promise.”
You nod. “Just as long as they don’t break anything.”
Your husband laughed, kneeling down in front of you. “I’ll rough ‘em up if they do.”
A look was thrown Sangyeon’s way as he laughed at you, the both of you knowing he doesn’t have a single violent bone in his body when it comes to his members.
“Very funny.” You say softly.
Sangyeon grins. “I guess this is what we can expect while we’re expecting.”
You grinned. “Oh baby girl, you are in for a real treat when you arrive!”

♫ THIS WORLD - ATEEZ PLAYING DISTANTLY ♫
Have you ever wondered how to build the perfect human? Perhaps in the future this will be the new normal, microchips for humans, technology that wanders slightly too far down the uncanny valley, maybe even your pet dog will be replaced by a hologram. In this world this the reality. However, there is still good in the world, the last survivors of the apocalypse want their lives back.
SMASH!
The shrieking of glass shattering as the wind breezed through the back of a man’s jacket, falling gracefully from a 45 story building as the world buzzed around him, tearing off the suit he’d worn as a disguise. Security alarms screamed in the background as he slid a small mechanical device into his pocket. Landing with two feet on the ground, the feather falling device strapped to his ankles allowing him to hover to the ground gently.
“Another piece of evidence collected, delta. Over.” He held his palm over the winged ear piece in his ear, waiting for a response from the team controlling the mission, speeding away on the electric motorcycle he’d parked in an alleyway beside the building before anyone could trail him.
Sangyeon was probably the companies most competent agent, with equal intelligence and equal agility. He was a spy at times, some sort of ninja at others. He was richly adored by the women and men of the company due to his good looks and charm. He was closely watched at all times, to preserve his useful nature from danger or threat. Standing at the top of the agent food chain, he wore all black at all times, an unsuspecting item of headwear, ranging from motorcycle helmets to even stupid sunglasses that would profile everyone he passed that day.
“Hm, looks like you found another piece of the puzzle, delta.” You smile proudly at the man, lifting the digital helmet that was enclosed around his skull. He shook his head, revealing his messy hair that was only 2 or three shades darker than his sweet honey skin as he arrived in the base’s lab.
You had to admit, the way the suit he wore hugged his figure was probably one of the most attractive things you’ve made of a man. You’d designed his suit for him, every dimension of the suit was measured by you, built to blend in with everything he encountered. It hugged his biceps and wrapped his torso perfectly.
“What is it? It’s not one of the typical syringe mechanisms.” He observed the piece, handing the small card to you, flinching as it folded into an even smaller piece upon your touch.
“Well you know how a sim card works? For your hollophone, it’s just like that. This seems to be a device that can enter the brain straight through the ear canal, what’s scary about it, this device can be inserted without anyone noticing.” You present him a holographic demonstration, the white outline of a holographic human appearing as you slot the piece into the ear canal, watching lines wrap around the brain marking points and learning information.
“That’s terrifying.” He walked a circle around the lab table, observing the demonstration and then looking at you with a serious gaze as you closed the tab, the device falling to the table. “There could be thousands of these and we’d have no idea.”
“Luckily it seems like you’ve found a prototype. I doubt these are ready for full circulation yet. Considering the information it can learn is only basic level compared to the syringes.” You reassure the man, folding your arms over your lab coat and watching as the device was lasered under the table, destroying the feeble piece of technology immediately. “And, they seem to break pretty easily, one bit of head trauma and the occupier's brain would be fried meat.”
“I’m sure your next mission will be putting a stop to this line of production.” You sighed, looking over the boy whose life seemed to be always in danger being chased by government officials.

—-🏍️—- A FEW HOURS EARLIER
“I’m telling you y/n. we’re running out of agents there’s no one else who could complete this mission but you. We simply don’t have the intelligence.” The head of the companies son looked at you with a voice of genuine concern, his eyes glinting in fear of their mission falling to pieces.
You were a lab technician, a developer, a philosopher of science, not an agent, not anyone capable of the stunts performed by the professionals that were amongst the companies agents such as Sangyeon Lee, delta.
“I don’t think I can, Younghoon. It’s too risky.” You bit your lip in anxiety, tearing the skin on the inside. As you thought through the idea and all the possible horrendous outcomes.
“Listen, it’s one mission. Sangyeon will be with you, I just need the intelligence, we have back up available. If you don’t pull through with this, the world will be over.” Not attempting to guilt trip you in anyway, Younghoon was simply stating what was true. If you didn’t sneak into the production lines of this human sim card, the world would be over.
“I’ll think about it, give me 12 hours.” If there wasn’t such a time crunch you would have said a few days, but you didn’t have that much time. That’s how fast technology moves now, in a world with no laws.
—-🏍️—-
Sangyeon peered over at you curiously, wondering what was on your mind as you paced the lab moving misplaced items and storing them away - your eyes black in deep thought, the wings of the headphones you wore frowning making it clear you were sad.
“What’s on your mind?” He asked, stepping behind a screen to change into regular clothes watching as you went to turn around but quickly turned back as you saw the bare top of his built shoulders.
“Younghoon asked me to do a mission.” You fiddled with the microscope on the counter, facing the wall for his privacy, even though he didn’t care at all at who was looking at him.
“Well, do it. After all, we don’t have enough intelligence left.” He simply shrugged off the worries, in his mind, you were completely competent enough to do the assignment and couldn’t understand your stress.
“Well, it’s not that simple. I’ll get myself killed. I’m not trained enough.” You turned around as the screen disappeared, Sangyeon now dressed in parachute bottoms and a well fitted black shirt leaned over the counter looking at you dubiously.
“Wellll, let’s start now. Here’s a gun.” He pulled a gun out of thin air making you flinch with sudden action as he smirked thinking of how adorable your reaction was.
“Absolutely not.” Your eyes widened, the wings of your ear piece sparking up in shock, as he chuckled to himself deviously.
“Well you’re gonna have to.” He smiled, asking you to hold out your palm as you accepted it, clutching it and being careful only to hover over the trigger gently.
He opened a target, a digital hologram of a human outline with a white sphere revolving in its chest where the heart was located. You got nervous as he placed himself behind you, feeling his breath over your neck as he leaned his arms over yours, placing his palms over your hand and correcting the posture.
“You want to close one eye to get the aim right, I’m sure you know those basics. Now, focus on the point and shoot.” With his words you made the shot, him not moving away from you for support as the sphere exploded and the target cleared.
The next hologram was a moving target, Sangyeon guided you to follow its movements but all you could think was how sensational his breath felt over your neck, how masculine his scent was and how strong his arms felt as they rested over yours.
Despite this, you followed the target, managing to land a critical hit on the hologram as it lit up green and cleared.
“You’re a natural, you’ll be fine y/n. I’ll be standing next to you the entire time.” He reassured you with a sweet smile, you smiled back being sure not to make eye contact as you recovered from his movements.
—-🏍️—-
The day of the mission had arrived, Younghoon was beyond relieved that you’d agreed, as he briefed the idea to you and Sangyeon. In this post apocalyptic world, it was up to you two to save the remaining members of society from being wiped out completely, and the pressure was certainly high.
You were about to set off, Sangyeon threw you a helmet, the piece of technology folding out as you brought it over your head. As you got on the back of his motorcycle, Younghoon stepped out and wished you well on the mission - being one of the most risky ones yet.
“Sangyeon I’m scared, I can’t lie.” You wrapped your arms around his torso cautiously, the anxiety soon to get the better of you.
“That’s not like you, y/n. I’m right beside you the entire time. We’ll do this and the world will return to normal. It’s delta for now too, you got that?” He chuckled, trying to make light of the situation. Tightening your grip around his waist before setting off into the night.
♫ STANDING NEXT TO YOU - JUNGKOOK PLAYING QUIETLY IN THE BACKGROUND ♫
The wind breezed past you both, the city lit up with dimly lit neon lights as you surpassed the highway to your destination. It was a skyscraper, surely more than 70 stories high, virtually not lit at all, disguised as a hotel but secretly a government base located on the higher floors.
“The floor we’re looking for is 62, it’s not accessible via the elevator and it would be too suspicious to enter through the main doors of the stairwell. So we will have to enter through the vent system located on floor 63 and go below.” Sangyeon’s stern briefing made you even more nervous than before, as you entered the elevator checking in your reservation to not make a scene on the lobby surveillance - disguising yourselves as a couple, checking into their hotel room for the night.
“Enjoy your stay.” The lady behind the counter wasn’t a real lady, but a piece of uncanny valley ai specialized to organize reservations no emotion or feeling behind it, however if you didn’t complete this mission, that would soon change.
Floor 63 had plenty of surveillance and if you were going to cut it, you had to be quick to destroy access to the programming and leave. There were currently no workers on the lower floors to your knowledge, however there was ai security designed to kill intruders at any cost.
“We can’t do this in time.” Sangyeon observed, moving one of the ceiling tiles, as you crawled through the ventilation system closely behind him. “There’s too much to do at such a high chance of risk.”
“Then what do we do?” You asked, panicking at his sudden change of mind as you peered down at the security bots pacing the lab floor.
“I’ll take out the bots, you grab the programme key and get into the database to shut everything down. Since you can get past the encryption. Then we set the floor a light.” He simply made a plan B on the spot, which he was known for doing, he did get told off for doing so but he always succeeded.
“I can but it will take a long time. What about the innocent people on the upper floors?” You asked thinking about the hotel guests
“I’ve got time, and there isn’t anyone on the top floors, there’s barely any of us left y/n. They’ve had 3 reservations today all on lower floors, the fire alarms are sure to go off.” He said this quickly, before springing to the floor taking cover from the bullets of the security bots and shooting their equipment out.
You carried out with your side of the mission, connecting yourself to harness and lowering down into the computer side of the base. A man with glasses turned around, working overtime on the sim project eyes wide as you pulled out a weapon and shot him down in his tracks.
You took over the computer as he was still logged in things were made simpler and you began deleting files. The database soon caught on however it was too late. You’d killed all the files containing research on the sim, before grabbing all the cases of sims stored in the cupboards and stuffing them into a duffel bag.
Soon the fire alarm sounded, that was your cue, Sangyeon ran into the room, a grenade in hand that would set off a fire and destroy everything left in the lab. He threw a device through the window that smashed the glass, before grabbing you and throwing the grenade at the nearest wall. A sinking feeling dwelled in your stomach as he fell with you in his arms out of the 62nd story.
Everything felt as if it was in slow motion as, Sangyeon looked at you in awe, activating his feather falling device a few feet early and bringing your face closer to his. He leaned in as you followed his movements, there was a slight scratch on his face where one of the bullets from the security bots had grazed his face. You gently brought your thumb across it as he smiled, the blood wiping away as you brought your lips to his. A spark of magic in such a dark world lit a flame, as you both landed on your feet and pulled away from each others embrace.
You’d saved the world together, you and an agent you’d grown fond over the days of dread. Maybe now, the world would get better, back to how it used to be before. Even if not…
“I’ll always be standing next to you darling.” Sangyeon smiled, pulling into you into his embrace once more before you both disappeared back into the night.

Nothing will ever feel as much at home to you as Sangyeon could ever be.
You knew this the moment you told him about how you got the opportunity to work overseas. You remember when it felt like you were fighting endlessly with yourself. Around two years ago, after your weekly date, a loving kiss on your lips and the way Sangyeon would flash you that endearing smile, you thought that everything would be fine. You pushed, what you thought, to be a slim chance that you would be able to work overseas to the back of your mind. At first, you felt crushed about the video interview that you messed up, stuttering and using filler words while you internally scolded yourself for not preparing answers to simple job interview questions. Your head was overloaded with information between things to say and not to say, what would be the best answer and how to play your cards right. In the end, as soon as you pressed the red button on the video call interview, you reached out for your phone to call the first person on your call logs.
Sangyeon remembers that video call, the line of tears cascading down your cheeks as you vent your feelings out. He always waited for you to finish your sentences, nodding along to your words and giving affirming body language to show that he was actively following. Along your stream of words, you didn’t realise that Sangyeon stepped outside in the cold air, his phone at a new low angle and the lights from the buildings were the only reason why you were still able to see his smile across the screen.
“Wait…why are you outside? Where are you going?” You grabbed the new box of tissues from your bedside table, ripping the top part of the box with the dashed lines to help you retrieve a new paper instantly.
“Just grabbing some things.” Sangyeon leisurely answers, bringing the camera closer to his puckering lips, “I’m sure you did amazing, baby. Don’t worry too much, alright? And if you didn’t make it, then I’m sure God has other plans for you.”
You both continue talking over the phone, wiping your eyes, drinking a ton of water and burying yourself underneath the blanket as Sangyeon continues his little errand run. Soon enough, you finally understood why the phone was tilted upwards towards the sky and why Sangyeon didn’t show the things he bought—all the usual things that he would share with you during his random, night errand runs like this one.
It was when he finally brought the phone up to be in line with his face that you recognised the familiar street background that he was walking in. You gasped, throwing your blanket to the floor, and opening the door suddenly to face your parents who looked at you with shocked eyes. They couldn’t even voice out any of their thoughts because you were out the front door as fast as you exited your bedroom door.
Knowing well that you found out about his plan, Sangyeon made a final sprint for your house, the contents inside the plastic bag ruffles and his earphones your excited laughs and words fill his earphones, mixed in with some of your still sniffling sounds from the devastating earlier events.
That night wasn’t the first time that Sangyeon would run over to you with no notice or hesitation but Sangyeon had been going through a tough time with his personal life and you didn’t know that he would still be able to have such energy to take care of you. It’s a miracle that you were able to still go on dates that these days would be impossible to plan. That night was a reminder to you, especially with the way that he lowered his lower body down, wrapped his arms around your waist, and lifted you as he buried his face into the crook of your neck, that you really love your boyfriend and that he has always been your number one supporter.
In his arms, with some final tears that Sangyeon wiped away delicately from your still-red cheeks, you were sure that everything would be fine.
Your tears started because you were stressed but it ended with comfort.
But you got another huge headache about a week later when you got the final results of the interview. It could be the acceptance letter (that you were still sure you weren’t going to get), but you knew that you needed to at least open it, read it and accept whatever result it was to move on with your life. So, you tapped on the notification without much thought and you will forever remember this sentence: We look forward to working with you. You froze then and there, your jaw open in disbelief and your fingers went back to the main email page, pulling the inbox page down to refresh the screen. Lo and behold, you were faced with a challenge that you didn’t bother to think about.
You sprint to Sangyeon’s house as soon as the reality sinks into you. Once again, you left your parent’s house after breaking the news to the owners before leaving. Usually, you would have never been able to run that fast and long without a break. The adrenaline and anxiety took over your whole body, and you let your legs guide you to your boyfriend’s house.
Sangyeon welcomed the news with open arms, his feet adorably tapping on the spot and a deep, soft kiss on your lips that still held his radiant smile. But unlike him, you could only stand at your spot in front of his house and give him a reluctant smile. To this, his smile drops and so did the arms that were in the air a moment ago to celebrate this new journey of yours. The vertical lines between his eyebrows made itself evident and you could only respond with a series of head-shaking and quivering lips.
“Hey…” He cradles the back of your head with one hand, the other on your cheek as he steps forwards towards you, “What’s wrong? You’ve always wanted this.”
Your arms surrounded Sangyeon’s lower body tightly, taking a handful of his sweater and your cold nose slowly became warmer thanks to his body temperature, “I know. But now that it’s happening, I’m having second thoughts.”
He continues to dig further into your thoughts, wanting to understand your feelings more and why you were having second thoughts about something you worked so hard for, “Do you want to elaborate further now? Or do you want to come inside first?”
“If I say the latter, will you cuddle with me?”
This is the you that he knows: the one that would always wish for a kiss, then a cuddle and then another kiss. You lift your face from his chest, increasing the distance between you both slightly. Sangyeon sees the sparkle in your eyes and the slight pout on your lips when you look up at him with a silent plea for a positive answer to your question.
Who was he to refuse and break your heart like that?
Plus…he wanted to cuddle with you as much as you did.
And so with the support of your loving family, chaotic friends and encouraging boyfriend, you packed up, headed onto the new country alone and started a new, independent life. Thankfully, you were able to find a place close to your workplace and the foreign place became your home quickly with your three kind housemates. Splitting the chores around the house, cooking, and establishing times to use the washing machine was never a problem. Living in the same house made it easier for you all to spend some time and get to know each other better, leading to routine Friday nights to be spent with each other, going on road trips and eventually overseas trips.
Your workplace has been rewarding as you found the same good qualities of your housemates in most of your co-workers. From day one, everyone has welcomed you to their lives with open arms and you knew for sure that these people wouldn’t be the reason that you would ever have to leave to go back home.
“It’s just so unfair.” It was the company, the workplace and the conditions that they put you in. The logic didn’t make sense: the place was understaffed yet they won’t hire any new people. Of course, there were many underlying factors around it, but after being so overworked, adapting to the new culture, being homesick and, your body trying its best to adjust to the new season changes that you would never have to deal with back home, it was inevitable that you were going to break down soon, “Why? Just why do they have to do that?”
“I’m so sorry you’re going through that.” Oh how much Sangyeon just wanted to jump out of the screen and hug you tight. When was the last time he ever got to do that anyway? He missed having you in his reach—his favourite love language not being able to be expressed for about half a year now, “Hang in there, baby. I know you can do this. Stay strong, hm?”
Through your blurred vision, you could still make out his sorrowful smile, his hand that just hovers the top of the camera on his phone as if to recreate the feeling that he was touching the side of your head.
Perhaps, the worst part of being away from home is your inability to ever interact with them in real-time. The time difference made it too exhausting for everyone on the other side of the world to communicate with you properly. Sure, there were rare days when they could, but the way their moon would rise when the sun said its greetings here made you swallow down your tears at night, forcing you to reassure yourself that ‘everything is going to be fine.’ Because of this, it was a routine for you to drown in your thoughts throughout the day, waking up with a heavy head and heart from the previous nights as you plaster on a weak but still genuine smile when you greet your coworkers.
With the help of your housemates, your family and Sangyeon have managed to surprise you on both of your birthdays as well as some gaps between their schedules. Those memories would be the ones you would replay in your head as you cry your heart out in the middle of the bed that’s in the middle of the room, in the middle of the night.
Other than the visits and calls, the only things that would connect you to them are the daily pictures and videos. At the very least, they captured the lives of the ones you love back home. Unlike the memories that you could only see and keep for yourself, the physical evidence of their smiles is another big source of comfort for you, especially when all you wanted during your lonely walk home was just life updates from the people that you love most. Somewhere along the way though, the pictures and videos became too much for you, and you start to imagine what the picture would be like if you filled up the negative space within it.
How would it be like to share that laughter, smile and experience of the atmosphere that the picture manages to capture? What was the air around there like? Humid? Cold? Warm? Aromatic? Or maybe perhaps, would you have been too entranced by Sangyeon’s presence that the only thing you could smell was his signature perfume mixed in with his laundry detergent?
How would it feel just to have Sangyeon’s shoulder pressed up against yours whenever he has that habit of putting an arm around your back to grab the opposite side of your waist? To have his bigger hand securely intertwine with yours? To have him press a kiss on the side of your head after he whispers ‘I love you forever’ to your ears—knowing well that you were the only one in the world that he would ever confess that phrase intimately to.
How would it feel like to just have the familiar buildings of your neighbourhood, your city and the familiar murals or paintings in your life again? Would it be more comforting than the pictures of the same scenery on your phone? Would your heart be more at ease walking in the night even if all the lights were off or there were no signs of life?
As an answer to your thoughts, after two years of learning, gaining life experiences and missing the air of your home, you bravely decided not to pick up the pen on the table and sign your initials on the new contract paper.
You decided: I’m going home.
It’s been a really wild ride. A ride that you would never exchange for anything else. For one, you made friends from the other side of the world. Friends that you knew you could always hit up and visit if you ever come back. Two, it was real when people say that ‘the distance makes the heart grow fonder’. Sangyeon has always been the boyfriend who would cry and carry his burden alone but would always welcome your hardships into his life. Before, even though you could pick up some of the signs on some occasions, the limited video calls allowed you both to pour your feelings out, exchanging confessions and true thoughts. Had you not been across the world, you were confident that Sangyeon would step out of his shell eventually but you were thankful that the distance did its job healthily and your relationship with him strengthened with the tears and chuckles that he showed.
When the time came and you finished training the new worker who would soon be taking your place in the company, you did your final preparations before stepping out of the house that sheltered you for two years. Final goodbyes, tears being shed, words of affirmation and promises for occasional updates were made before you drove off to the airport. Rolling down the car window, you twist your upper body to face the back of the car, your hand waving up in the air.
The ride to the airport is bittersweet. You put your phone down after texting Sangyeon that you would call him when you pass through security. All you wanted to do at this moment was to look out the windows and take in the colours of the journey, half-scared that the scenery might turn monochrome soon if you didn’t pay close attention.
Keeping your promise, you connected your earphones and turned on your camera to be faced with Sangyeon leisurely lying in bed, one hand on the back of his head on the headboard, blinking his eyes to fight the sleep from his system.
“You should sleep.”
Sangyeon shakes his head, straightening his back and sitting up. He takes a deep breath, his chest expanding in volume as he does so, “You only have a few minutes before you have to go anyway. I can stay awake and accompany you.”
“You’re the best, you know that?”
Thankfully, you found a seat for yourself in the busy atmosphere. You place your backpack on the floor in front of you between your legs, being mindful of the other passengers in the busy airport who most probably had a long day before this, now having to spend overnight in a metal column.
“Love that hoodie on you. Where’d you get it?” Sangyeon wiggles his eyebrows playfully and you roll your eyes, “Good to know that you didn’t leave it behind.”
“I would be crazy to leave this behind.” You pull on the strings of the hoodie, fastening the circumference of the hood around the outline of your face, pouting cutely to your boyfriend who just laughs at you fondly.
“Can’t wait to hold you.” That sentence holds so many meanings and tugged on your heartstrings so much. It hurt for a bit to hear him say that, especially when his voice sounded so tired, “I love you so much.”
“I love you so much.” You whisper to the microphone, holding the tears that you didn’t want to show to your friends throughout the whole week, “I miss you so much. I can’t wait to go on physical, real-life dates again.”
“A few more hours.” He reminds the both of you, holding on just a little bit longer, “Everything will sort itself out then.”
That’s right.
A few more hours until you will both be able to be in the same space again. Just a little bit more before you’ll be able to steal a kiss from his lips whenever and wherever.
You can’t wait to be back in the comfort of your bed, saying ‘goodnight’ to your parents and slipping out of your windows shortly after to meet Sangyeon at the convenience store.
You can’t wait to spend some time with his mum—who he gets very jealous of sometimes—and steal more childhood, baby pictures of him. Along with that, you can’t wait for his mum to let you sneak into his room to steal some of his clothes.
You can’t wait to see his blushing face as he freezes between the doorframe when his eyes land on how his sleeves would completely cover your arms, and your thighs and expose a little bit of your shoulders.
You can’t wait for him to scoop you up in his strong arms, eliciting your series of squeals and giggles that he has fallen deeply in love with.
You can’t wait for him to tuck you in bed, pulling his blanket up to your chin. He would then frame his larger body over yours throughout the night, making you sleep deeper and better. But your night, wouldn’t be complete until you delicately kiss him on his chin, cheek and lips. His night wouldn’t be complete either until he kissed your forehead, nose and lips, taking his sweet time on the last body part.
Most importantly, the night wouldn’t be complete overall until your lips part each other and exchange ‘I love you’s.
As soon as you landed, the adrenaline of finally being in the same country, the same land, the same building knocked out the jetlag and you were suddenly wide awake. You felt a bit bad for the bottom of the seat in front of you and your backpack which was violently ripped out from its peace, but you would like to think that they would understand your sudden burst of energy. You race and slip yourself between the bodies of people who were most probably confused and amazed by how much your eyes were darting around the conveyor belt so quickly, trying to find your check-in baggage—but you didn’t care.
You care about is Lee Sangyeon.
Now, you passed through every security check, every random bag inspection, opening and relocking up all your luggage again one by one, your patience running out by the minute.
But it’s okay.
Because now, only one glass door stands in the way between you and all the people waiting on the other side.
You watch from the distance as the automatic door opens and closes through other passengers. You were even able to catch a glimpse of some of your fellow flight passengers who spotted their loved ones immediately in the crowd, their hands releasing the handle brake of their trolley when they rushed into the crowd. Their loved ones cry and gasp at the presence that they have been so desperate for, their bodies swaying side to side to keep some of their emotions regulated in public.
Oh, how you know you wouldn’t be able to hold in your tears.
Exhaling and inhaling a couple more times, your hands grip the handle of your trolley, doing a final baggage check that everything is securely held in place and that you didn’t leave anything. Finally, you push the handle to release the brake and you start to walk over to the translucent glass doors.
Time didn’t slow down.
It just felt still.
It didn’t stop though—it just felt still.
You could hear your heartbeat through your ears, your palms were sweating in nervousness and you could barely feel the ground that you were walking on with every step of your feet. The gush of wind pushes your hair back dramatically and your eyes water at the cooler air from the other side of the door. Metal barricades separate the arriving passengers from the crowd from both sides of your body and you force your teared-up eyes to carefully scan through the rows of the crowds and the signs that they held up. Your back straightens to accommodate your eyes’ effort in addition to your lips that move in the shape of the name of the person you miss the most. Unfamiliar faces fill your visual field and your feet finally take you to the end of the barricade, heart feeling heavy at the unsuccessful event to pick out anyone in the crowd that you know.
But then…
“Found you.”
His appearance explains why you were unable to quickly pick him out from the crowd if you didn’t focus on detail. Sangyeon grins at your shocked facial expression, watching your eyes slowly lift from the bouquet in his hands to the freshly black dye on his hair.
“Y-You—”
“What do you think?” His pointer and thumb raise to twirl a bit of his hair, his eyes still on you, “You always said that I would look good with black hair.”
“Good?” Oh, he knew what kind of effect this is having on you and he’s having fun with this, “Sangyeon, you—”
His facial expression softens straightaway when the tears that you’ve been holding for so long finally drop to the ground and he strides forwards immediately as soon as he catches a glimpse of your quivering lips. Forget about the flowers, forget about the people around you, forget about how you were standing in the middle of the walkway. He sets his ‘welcome back’ gifts on top of your things, swiftly wrapping an arm behind your shoulders while the other one cups your cheeks.
Sangyeon held your shaking body against his tightly, and it was good that he did, otherwise, you would surely be on the floor. You relished in the scent that you missed the most, purposely taking in deep breaths to ground yourself back to the present. The boy smiles at the realisation, letting your free cheek cutely rest on his chest. He hushes you softly, the swiping motion of his thumb on your cheek giving you a physical reminder of his presence—a reminder that he is with you at this very moment. Multiple kisses were pressed on your forehead in an attempt to calm you down and responded with a whimper as you tried to form words.
“It’s okay.” It really is, “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Your body responded to his affirmation, your arms finally wrapping around his waist, the tips of his fingers just barely intertwining behind his back. Your palms lay flat on his smooth leather jacket and your ragged breathing found a stable pace once again. The increased oxygen in your blood allows you to finally feel Sangyeon’s plump lips on your forehead and the blush begins to form across your cheekbones.
“You’re really here.”
“I am.” You feel the way his chest vibrates at his deep chuckle.
That’s all he said and it’s way more than enough. Eyes closed, in Sangyeon’s embrace, his familiar scent, his lips hovering on your eyelids to press kisses there—everything is starting to feel like home.
“You look handsome.” For the first time since you arrived, you finally look at this new hair colour properly. Your eyebrows furrow, almost a look of dissatisfaction and disapproval, “Too handsome.” This time, one of your eyebrows raised at the way he responded with a teasing smile, “How many people asked you out already?”
“Honestly,” He starts to act, tightly closing his eyes as if to think very hard. He prolonged his hum with the way you glared at him cutely, wanting to tease you for longer, “quite a lot.”
The answer made you scoff, tilting your head away and you started to pull away from his embrace. Sangyeon didn’t let you walk away fully though for he pulled you right back to his body. Your hands attempt to stabilise your body the sudden act by resting on the curves of Sangyeon’s shoulders. The playful look in his eyes disappears and the extra layer of moisture shows itself—it tells you that he has been waiting for the only person to ever see his tears to be within his arms again. Both his hands rest on your waist and your own eyes search for the emotions behind his, a hand wiping his lower eyelid. That act makes a tear fall before another one falls and it soon becomes a fountain of emotions for the older male.
“I missed you. So much.” The way that Sangyeon puts so much emphasis on the second and fourth words sent chills down your spine.
Your hand on his shoulder slides upwards to cup his face, the other downwards to do the same on the other side. With all the strength you have left in your legs, you put your weight on your toes, fluttering your eyelids close and lifting your body to press a longing kiss to his lips. You tasted his tears on the curves on his lips, but knowing well that it stemmed from love, made your heart slowly start to heal. Sangyeon reciprocates immediately, travelling his hands to the side curves of your body, stopping at your neck, gently tilting your face upwards to deepen the kiss. The kiss sweetly alternates with his own hugging your bottom lips, pulling away for oxygen, a little ‘I love you’ and diving back in to hug your upper lips.
This is what home feels like.
It’s not some building or some land that could be pointed out on a map. It’s not necessarily the photos and videos that you received, even though they comforted you on cold nights. It’s not necessarily the rushed talks and recounts of your lives because the second hand on the clock mocked the little time you would always have, even though you were thankful that you had that small gap to do so.
It’s actually experiencing all of the above, going through all those trials, all those confusing emotions, and still feeling love and support. It’s being able to just walk with defeat over the day’s work but as soon as you arrive back home, the feeling either washes away or you’re able to just vent it and cry it out.
With the right people, you were able to let these experiences turn into lessons and precious memories—similar to how there are specific bricks to build the proper structure of a house. As those experiences build, so does the clear image and structure of a house. Sure, houses break down due to inside and outside factors but when it does, you’re confident that you can work it out and make it stronger.
With those thoughts in mind, the corner of your lips tugged upwards and no words were needed for Sangyeon to know that the smile wasn’t mischievous, teasing or playful.
It’s one full of relief and happiness.
“Welcome home.” Sangyeon changes his words between your kisses.
You hum, waiting for the next time he pulls away to give a proper response.
“I’m home.”

The lecture hall is buzzing with students waiting for your professor to show up. Once he finally enters, everyone quiets down and takes a seat for the lecture. Your class only meets once a week, while the rest of the class is taught online. So when your professor announces at the end of class that everyone would be paired up per his choosing for a project you were kind of surprised. Everyone in this classroom was practically a stranger. You may have interacted with a handful of them weekly for your online discussion board homework, but you couldn’t identify a single one in the room. You can see everyone looking around wondering who they were going to be paired with. A few students making eye contact, hopeful to be partnered together.
“Each of you will go to a museum in the area to write a minimum 1000 word essay together on the museum’s management and collection and why or why not it is successful. Partners who wish to do a presentation instead are also welcome, but you must let me know ahead of time.” Your professor pulls up the requirements on the projector to review while students snap pictures of the board with their phones. “And before you get any ideas, I will be requiring proof of your attendance, such as a ticket.” A few students groan while the professor smirks and continues. “I will email everyone tonight with your assigned partner. See you all next week!” The sound of chairs scraping the floor punctuates the end of class. Curiosity and excitement seems to fill the auditorium as everyone makes their way to the exit.

Later that evening you open your laptop in anticipation of your Professor’s email. You could feel yourself getting antsy so you pour yourself a glass of wine. To avoid refreshing your email every few seconds, you start to pace around your living room knocking back your drink. Why were you so nervous? You ask yourself. Probably because you’re a bit of an introvert and while you do alright in social settings, the thought of having to interact with a complete stranger gives you a little anxiety. You walk up to your laptop after polishing off a third glass and refresh one last time.
Professor Moon Subject: Partner Assignment 10:00 PM
Ungracefully collapsing into your chair, you grab hold of your mouse to click on the email. You read through your professor’s words before landing on the name Sangyeon Lee as the person you have been paired with.
“Hmm,” you say aloud. Their name wasn’t familiar to you, not that it mattered since you had no idea who was who in your class. You're curious if they’re a man or a woman. Reading through the syllabus, you notice your professor CC’d Sangyeon as well to initiate communication. You give your neck a stretch and get to typing.
Dear Sangyeon,
Delete, delete, delete
“This isn't a formal letter, Y/n.” You pause to take a sip of your wine, swishing the cheap red in your mouth like a sommelier. Crossing your legs in your chair to get comfortable, you continue to type.
Hi Sangyeon, Congratulations!
“No, they probably won’t find that funny.”
Delete, delete, delete
You start again.
Hi Sangyeon, I’m your partner for the museum paper. My number is 285-543-2351. Feel free to text me your availability.  -Y/n
“Short and sweet.” Satisfied, you close your laptop and head to the couch to turn on the tv. Just as you are getting into the Gilmore Girls theme song, your mobile pings interrupting your slightly drunken impression of Carole King. You pick up the device and see a text message from an unknown number. You swipe the notification to respond.

“Great first impression, Y/n.” You smack your palm to your forehead. Speaking of the blessed cheap boxed wine, you look over at your kitchen counter and debate pouring another glass. What the hell, why not? You think.

After taking a shower and doing your hair, you peruse your closet wondering what to wear. Flipping through your choices you decide to keep it comfortable. You inspect your outfit in the mirror before deciding to change again. Then again. And one more time just for good measure. The nerves were starting to get to you and this was beginning to feel more like a first date than a class project. Finally, you settle on some heeled brown leather boots, a mid length jean skirt with a slit up the sides, and a light cream colored cardigan tucked in. Better to make a good first impression, you think. You’re applying some mascara when your phone chimes.

A black jeep pulls up to the curb of your apartment and you look down to your phone screen to see a here from Sangyeon. The butterflies have started to cha cha slide in your belly and you want to consider making excuses, but instead your shaky hands send Sangyeon a quick text that you’ll be down in a moment. After making sure everything is off then checking it twice and thrice, you take one last look in the mirror before leaving.
As you approach the jeep, Sangyeon opens his door and pops out. You stop dead in your tracks as your eyes process the gorgeous stranger in front of you. You suddenly feel like you're in a drama as a warm breeze blows through his brown hair. He flips his head to the side slightly to move the hair from his eyes and you feel your mouth gape open. He is wearing a white linen button up with dark slacks. He walks around the front of his jeep to the passenger side to greet you.
“Y/n?” He points to you twirling his key ring on one finger.
“Who?” How to words? You try to remember.
“What?”
“Sorry, I mean yes, hi! I’m Y/n.” You stretch out your hand to shake his and he takes hold of you. You like the roughness of his calluses on your soft palms. “Um, Sangyeon, I assume?”
“You assume correctly.” He looks down at your still connected hands and laughs. You notice and immediately release him.
“Oh sorry.” You tuck some hair behind your ear and adjust the strap of your purse on your shoulder looking away nervously. Sangyeon tilts his head to look you over briefly while you're turned away. He finds you beautiful. Interesting. Not what he was expecting, but quite possibly the prettiest person he has ever seen. He finally speaks.
“Should we get going then?” You nod and smile weakly. You’re so taken aback by this handsome man that you have to remind yourself how to walk, hoping your face isn’t giving anything away. He opens the door and beckons for you to get in. Once you're inside, Sangyeon grabs the buckle and tugs it forward to hand to you.
“Safety first.” He softly chuckles.
You take the seat belt from him, accidentally brushing his finger. “Thank you,” you say a little too shakily. If Sangyeon feels anything, he doesn’t show it. He heads to his side and you take out your phone to distract yourself. He turns the car on and starts punching in directions to the museum. As you’re absentmindedly scrolling through your phone you miss Sangyeon swiveling in his seat, looking in your direction. With one hand on the steering wheel, he places a hand on the back of your headrest. You smell his cologne first before you look up at him surprised to meet his eyes. He looks down at you and smiles. His eyes turn into crescents and you can feel your heartbeat quicken in your chest. Sangyeon turns his attention to the back window and backs the car up from the curb. While he looks behind you, you take the time to visually trace and memorize the shape of his features. You notice he has the nose of a Roman god and the jawline of a Greek one. You shake your head and force your eyes away from him just as you land on his Adam's apple. Sangyeon faces forward and shifts into drive, watching you from his peripheral. He tries to think of something to say and clears his throat.
“So, have you been to the High before?”
You put your phone into your purse. “I have, but I admit it’s only been a few times. I think the last time I came was when Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrors was here.”
“Wow, I wish I could have seen that.”
“It was amazing.”
The nerves start to subside as the two of you get comfortable making small talk on the way. Once Sangyeon parks, he runs around to your side to open the door for you. While he helps you out the car, you feel his thumb brush over your knuckles. You wonder if he meant to do that or if it was accidental, but you try not to think anything of it.
The two of you grab a map of the museum and make your way up the spiral pathway. The sun beams through the large glass windows and Sangyeon notices the way your irises illuminate when the rays reflect in your eyes. He watches as you admire the atrium, your jaw slightly dropping as you take in the sight. Sangyeon smiles to himself as he feels his cheeks begin to bloom. You look back down to review the map and plan your course of action.
“Okay, over here is European artwork and ceramics. We can start there and work our way up.” You notice he is looking at you when you face him to confirm the plan, the smile never leaving his lips. You have to tell your heart to keep it down while he nods and gives you a salute.
“You lead the way, Captain.” He pauses, holding his hand out in front of him signaling for you to enter the first gallery. You bow your head slightly in thanks and walk past him. You make your way through the exhibit stopping briefly by a few pieces to look over them. Sangyeon slowly trails behind you, keeping a little distance so he can watch you. He knows he should be looking at the artwork, but he finds you to be more fascinating. He likes the way you get so close to the artwork your nose almost touches the canvases. Security has had to tell you to back up at least twice now. He also notices the way you pout in concentration as you read the descriptions of the pieces, mouthing each word.
While admiring a Matisse, Sangyeon swallows hard as you make an “o” with your mouth. Warmth travels through his body and he has to mentally swat away the burgeoning dirty thoughts.
“You like Matisse?” he asks.
“I do, especially his sculpture. I didn’t know they had one here.”
“You really love this stuff, don’t you?” You look at him confused by his question.
“Of course, don’t you?”
“Sure, but not in the way you do. I should maybe appreciate all of this more.” He chuckles. Sangyeon later discovers a Rodin sculpture and calls you over.
“Y/n, take a look at this. They have a Rodin too.”
“Wow! It’s beautiful!” You clap your hands at his discovery. He loves how excited you get, almost like a child.
“There's a lot of amazing artwork here. I really didn't know.”
Nearing the end of this exhibition, you finally arrive at the painting you have been hoping to see again. Having been distracted by a piece of ceramics, Sangyeon loses sight of you and looks around. He turns the corner and finds you staring at a small painting intently. The light above you cascades over your golden hair creating a halo. He tentatively approaches, almost sad at the thought of disturbing your entranced state, but too eager to be close to you to keep away. He walks up behind you, so close that he gets a whiff of your shampoo or perfume. He discreetly smells you and feels his heart clutch at the hints of florals and tropical scent. Your hair looks so soft and inviting and all he wants to do is plant his face in its strands. Your skin tingles as you sense Sangyeon’s presence. The warmth from him engulfing you. He takes his place next to you once he notices your attention on him.
“You’ve been staring at this one longer than the others.”
“Have I? Sorry.”
“Don’t be. I was just wondering what was so intriguing about it.”
“It’s called The Funeral of Atala by Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson. It is a New World retelling of Romeo and Juliet. Chactas, the man,” You point to the dark haired man on the left wearing a red sash and continue. “Is mourning his beloved Atala who committed suicide so she wouldn’t break her vow of chastity to her dying mother.”
You watch as Sangyeon’s expression falls into a frown. “Why would she do that?”
“The artist wanted to create an inspirational piece in support of Christianity during the time of the French Revolution, which promoted ideals such as secularism.” You smile as Sangyeon nods his head, listening though you can tell he is still trying to understand. “While it doesn’t have that effect for me, I have always been really drawn to this painting because of its tragedy. Maybe it's the hopeless romantic in me.”
“But she’s dead.”
Laughing, you try to explain yourself further. “True, but look at how he clings to her. It’s his final goodbye. His last chance to touch her, feel her, look at her. I hope to be loved and missed like that one day.” You drop your hands to your sides and Sangyeon mirrors you. His fingers brush yours and you feel a current of electricity from his touch. Sangyeon feels the same energy flow through his body and he wants to take hold of your hand. You wonder if he feels the same heaviness building between you that you feel, not knowing that he’s struggling just as much as you are. Needing to break the tension, you decide to turn away and head to the exhibit upstairs. Sangyeon continues to follow behind as you both make your way to the American and African Art sections.
You catch Sangyeon looking at a few pieces by O’Keefe and Gorky, before he stops at Duet by Adolph Gottlieb. You observe him as he squints to examine the work more closely. This was the first painting that seemed to pique his interest out of everything you had seen so far. Abstract art is not something that often appeals to you compared to other genres, but you want to understand what has captured his attention. You stand beside him and nudge his shoulder gently, stirring him from his concentration. He looks over at you curiously, lifting an eyebrow.
“You seem to like the more abstract and surreal work then?”
“What makes you say that?”
“Because you didn’t seem as interested in the European work from before.”
He holds his chin and nods in thought. “You’re right, I suppose I don’t really get paintings of people.” He turns his attention back to the piece. “It’s like looking at your dreams. As soon as you wake up you start to forget them so your mind tries to piece it back together while you try to interpret the many meanings behind it. And the end result is something like this.” He points to the Gottlieb piece in front of him. “An abstract memory.” You want to kiss him. He feels your eyes on him and faces you. The two of you get lost in each other’s gaze. You try to swallow, but feel it catch in your throat. Sangyeon looks down at your lips and wets his subconsciously. Now it was his turn to distract himself from grabbing hold of you. Sangyeon pulls his phone out of his pocket to check the time.
“Wow, we’ve been here for 2 hours?” He places his hand on his stomach. “No wonder I'm hungry.”
“Do you want to get a bite to eat?”
“Sure, I think I saw a few restaurants down the road when we pulled in.”
“Okay.”
Tumblr media
The two of you arrive at a small bistro a short walk from the museum. Once you take your seats, the server asks for your drink order.
“I’ll have a sweet tea, please.” You smile at the server.
“Water is fine for me.”
“I’ll be back with your drinks. Let me know if you have any questions about the menu.” You both thank the server before turning your attention back to each other.
“Sweet tea seems to be a really popular thing here.”
“Yes, in the south it is, but the preference of how you take your tea varies per region.”
“And you like it sweet.”
“I do.” He looks out to the busy street and admires the way the city is cast in a fiery glow. While he looks at the cityscape, you admire the way the setting sun falls across his face.
“You never told me what that gif was from.” He startles you from your staring.
“What gif?” You ask blinking. Sangyeon mimics the waving Tom Hanks gif and you giggle from his attempt. “Oh, that gif. It’s from a movie, Forrest Gump. It was popular when I was a kid.”
“Oh, that does sound familiar now.”
“I’m surprised you didn’t know that one, but you knew Wayne’s World.”
“Who doesn’t know that movie? Especially the Bohemian Rhapsody scene.” Sangyeon starts to rock his head back and forth while playing the air guitar. You laugh.
“How old are you?”
“27. I will turn 28 soon though.”
“Ah, that explains that then.”
“Explains what?” “You’re a lot younger than me.” You can tell he wants to ask your age so to spare him from feeling embarrassed, you answer for him. “I’m 34.” He just nods his head and you wonder if he’s intentionally keeping his reaction stoic. In truth, Sangyeon didn’t care that you were older. You could have told him you were 45 and he still would have found himself enraptured by you.
“That’s not that much older than me. Plus, in my defense. I did not grow up here.”
“Touche.” The server returns with your drinks and takes your food order. After they walk away you turn back to Sangyeon and change the subject.
“So,” you stick your straw in your tea and mix it a little. “Why are you pursuing your Masters?”
“Really doing this for a promotion at work, if I am being honest. I hope to return back home eventually once I graduate and can land something. And yourself?”
“Similar. I work at a smaller museum in the metro area and I’m trying to break into a space like the High or better yet, somewhere not in this state.”
“You don’t like it here?” “I don’t mind it, but I have lived here for most of my life and wouldn’t mind an excuse to escape it.”
Sangyeon stares at your hands and reaches out to grab hold of you. You blink at him, surprised by the sudden action. He rubs his thumb over your rings.
“I like them.”
“Oh,” You can feel your body ignite while the butterflies start to dance again. “Thanks.”
“What are they?”
“Tiger’s Eye for courage, Sunstone for motivation, and Moss Aquamarine for clarity.” You point to each ring. Still holding your hand in one, he takes his free hand and taps on the Tiger’s Eye.
“I like this one.” He shifts his gaze to yours. “It looks like your eyes.” The server interrupts the two of you, but Sangyeon doesn’t release your hand until he is handed his plate. His attention was really getting to you so you were relieved to get a break to eat.
As you work through your meal, he notices something peeking out from where your cardigan sleeve is bunched up on your forearm. He gently shifts your arm and pulls the sleeve up more, spotting a tattoo. He traces the outline of the art and goosebumps spread across your skin. Sangyeon grins as you involuntarily close your eyes from his touch, feeling satisfied that you might be just as affected as he is.
“It’s pretty.” You hum in response, still focused on the way his fingertips feel on your skin. Once he removes his hand you try to speak to calm the pitter patter of your heart.
“Do you have any tattoos?”
“No, I would like some, but just never brought myself to do it.”
“Well, there’s still time. The body is a canvas.” A smirk tugs at the corner of his lips as he thinks of your body being a canvas for him.
The two of you finish your meals and walk back to the car. Sangyeon contemplates holding your hand again, but he wonders if it might be too forward.
“I had a lot of fun today.” You interrupt his anxious thoughts.
“Me too.”
“I was actually really nervous.”
“Nervous? Why?” He asks, amused.
You shrug. “What if you had been a serial killer? Or just not very nice?”
“Well, I promise I’m not a murderer, but hopefully you think I’m nice?” Sangyeon approaches the passenger side of his car and opens the door for you. You have to duck under his arm to step inside. He lingers for a moment and once seated, you face him.
“Yes, you’re very nice, Sangyeon.” You grab hold of your seatbelt and he closes the door for you. You watch as he walks to the driver side, grinning. The car ride home is mostly quiet. It’s not an uncomfortable silence, but you can feel the air in the car grow thicker as you get closer and closer to your apartment.
Tumblr media
Sangyeon arrives and pulls into an open parking spot near your building. You fidget with your bag and he makes no moves to rush you out.
“Thanks again for today…and for driving.”
“You’re welcome.” He lightly drums his fingers on the steering wheel thinking of something else to say.
“Well, I guess I’ll go then. Have a good night.”
“You too, Y/n.” His heart sinks as he watches you turn away to open the door, but you pause your hand on the handle. Sangyeon senses your hesitation and looks at you. You look back at him and chew your bottom lip for a moment. His fingers now tighten on the steering wheel in anticipation.
“Do you want to come up?” He nods and you hear him unclick his seatbelt in disbelief at his lack of hesitation. You open the door and climb out of his car, meeting him on your side. The walk up to your floor feels long and neither of you say anything. You arrive at your door and grab your keys from your purse.
“This is me.” You insert the keys and enter the dark apartment while Sangyeon follows closely behind you. His body almost flush against yours. You drop your keys in a bowl and bend over to remove your boots. He slides his shoes off as well. Flipping the light on, you try to think about your game plan. You hadn’t thought much farther after inviting him up, other than wanting to feel his skin on yours. When you turn around to face him, you nearly bump into his chest. He places his hands on your shoulders to steady you and you have to take a step back to speak.
“Um, can I get you a drink?” You can hear the nerves in your voice.
“Okay,” is all he can get out. Sangyeon was more nervous than he expected to be. His heart hasn’t stopped pounding in his ears since you invited him upstairs. Actually, since he first saw you when he picked you up earlier. The two of you head into your kitchen and you open the fridge. He leans his back against the counter behind you while you scour for something to drink.
“Let’s see…I have water, some beer-”
“And boxed wine,” he interrupts.
You smile and laugh. “Yes, that too.” You look to him for his choice. His eyes trail up your body before meeting your gaze to answer.
“Just water is fine since I have to drive.”
While you plan to grab a bottle of water, you find yourself feeling bold and reaching for two beers instead. He smirks at your defiance. You pop the tops off and hand one to him.
“Stay,” you whisper while looking down into your beer shyly. He takes hold of the drink and searches your eyes, hopeful. He watches as you wrap your lips around the bottle for a sip and can’t help himself from wondering what your mouth would feel like around him. Deciding he can no longer skirt around things, Sangyeon places the bottle down and grabs hold of you, finally bringing you in for a kiss. It takes you a moment to register what is happening before you are wrapping your arms around each other. His lips feel soft against yours. Sangyeon pulls away after a moment to look over your face.
“You’re so beautiful.” Blushing, you laugh nervously and try to hide in his chest. He takes hold of your chin to face him again.
“Don’t. Please don’t ever hide yourself from me.” He places feather soft kisses on the apples of your cheeks to soothe you, before capturing your mouth with his again. Sangyeon pushes you into the kitchen counter and trails his lips down your neck, nipping your skin with every peck. He settles into your sensitive spot, where your neck and shoulder meet, and inhales, finally committing your smell to memory. Craving to feel him, you unbutton his shirt and drop it to the floor, revealing his beautiful sun kissed skin. You slowly brush your fingers down his toned abdomen until they meet his waistline. He flexes under your touch.
“Can I remove this?” You point to his belt and he nods as he cages you in. You remove his belt then move on to unzip his pants. Once undone you push his pants down and he steps out of them.
“Your turn,” he whispers into your neck and your body tingles in response. He takes hold of your cardigan and pulls it up to untuck from your skirt, lifting it over your head. Sangyeon unbuttons your jean skirt and lets it fall to the ground. Next, he unclasps your bra. You watch his Adam's apple bob as he admires your breasts. His hand moves up from your waist and takes hold of your nipple between his thumb and index finger. You throw your head back at the sensation. He pulls you in to a kiss you again, pushing his tongue in between your lips. You part them to invite him in and swallow his moan. The two of you eventually have to breakaway to catch your breath. While he continues to familiarize his hands with your body, you trace a finger down the bridge of his nose, then place a chaste kiss on the tip of it. A breathy laugh escapes him at the sweet gesture.
“I want you.” Humor is suddenly replaced with hunger.
“Tell me what you want, baby. Use your words.” You could have folded at the sound of his deep voice calling you baby right then and there, but you remain strong.
“I want to feel you inside me.” He groans and moves his hand down your waist, making his way to your core. You wrap your arms around him to bring him closer to you. He slides two fingers beneath your panties, collecting your wetness as he explores your folds. You exhale into his neck at the relief of his touch.
“Baby, you’re so wet,” he whispers into your ear.
“Mmm, for you. Only for you.” He removes his fingers and settles his hands on the back of your thighs.
“Let’s take this to your bedroom, yeah?” You nod eagerly and place your lips back on his. He lifts you up and wraps your legs around his waist. He walks you to the bed and gently lays you down before standing to admire you. Sangyeon looks over your exposed body and shakes his head, his breath catching in his throat. You are the most beautiful work of art he has seen today.
“I can’t believe you're real.”
Who is this man and how is he real? You wonder. No one has ever spoken to you, looked at you the way he has tonight. He makes you feel like you might actually be beautiful, at least in his eyes. And his eyes are all the matter right now.
He places his palms on either side of your head and leans back down for a quick kiss to your lips then starts trailing kisses down your body. He latches onto your hardened nipple swirling his tongue slowly, making you squirm. He uses his body to part your legs.
“Sangyeon, please,” you cry out. He lets out a chuckle as he continues placing kisses down your stomach. Your body tensing in pleasure from each touch. Finally reaching the waistband of your panties, he loops his fingers into the sides and pulls them off. His stare at your aroused middle makes you feel shy as you try to close your legs. He stops you.
“Don’t hide from me, remember?” You nod and part your knees. “I can’t wait to taste how sweet you are, baby.” You whine when you feel his breath on your wet pussy. Sangyeon kitten licks your lips, teasing you and you buck into him. He wraps his hands around your legs, pinning your hips down as he presses his tongue harder into you, licking and sucking. He prods your entrance and you hiss in pleasure.
“Ahh, Sangyeon.” You comb your fingers through his hair, pushing him into you. “More.” He removes a hand from your hip and slides two fingers inside of you. “Yes, yes! Fuck!” You tighten around his digits with each thrust amazed at how close you are to coming. He curls his fingers to push against your spongy spot and you cry out. He sucks just above your entrance near his fingers while his nose rubs into your clit repeatedly. You can hear your wetness and your cries grow louder.
“Faster, Sang. Please, baby,” you shout. Your begging nearly sends him over the edge. He grinds into your mattress for relief while he continues lapping your pussy and increasing his pace. “I’m gonna come, Sang! I want to come!”
“Let go, sweetheart.” His soft tone, while face deep in your pussy, guides you to the edge and you feel yourself release. Sangyeon licks up your juices while you come down from your orgasm. Once he’s done, you lift him off you and bring him to your lips before pushing him back again. You point to his briefs and snap them.
“Off, please!” His cock twitches at your request. Sangyeon slides his briefs down his hips freeing himself. He’s so hard and sensitive that the cold air elicits a moan from him. You watch him close his eyes from pleasure and you can feel your arousal grow again. You take hold of him and softly stroke him up and down, feeling the weight and warmth of his cock. His whole body shudders. You scoot closer to him and wrap your lips around his tip to suckle. Before you can put more of him into your mouth, he pulls you off making you pout.
“Baby, I don’t think I will last if you keep that up and right now all I want to do is feel you coming on my cock.” He pushes you back down onto the mattress. Sangyeon slips his tip through your folds for lubrication then aligns himself with your entrance. As he pushes in, you both release a moan at the feeling of him stretching you. His eyes roll to the back of his head at the feeling of you sucking him in and you think this might be the hottest thing you've ever seen in your 34 years.
“You feel so fucking good, Y/n.” He stills once he can't go any further trying to savor the feeling.
“Move, Sang, please. I can’t take it anymore. I need you.” With one hand by your head, he places the other on your waist, gripping it tightly for leverage and rocks into you. He doesn’t hold back and it’s not long before your bed frame is knocking repeatedly into your wall. You wonder if you’ll get a complaint, not that you care right now.
“I’m so close to coming, baby,” he calls out breathlessly. You run your fingertips down his back, feeling every ripple of muscle while you bite into his neck.
“Come inside me.” Sangyeon drives harder into you at the demand and you can feel his thrusts start to stutter as he approaches his high. You tighten your legs around him to push him further into you. Sangyeon lets out a whine as he finally climaxes. The feeling of his warmth filling you triggers your second orgasm. You scream out his name as the two of you slow your movements and catch your breath. He lays his entire weight onto your body and you hold him closely, stroking his hair.
“We should probably clean up,” he says as he tries to get up. You stop him from pulling out and shush him.
“Not yet, please.” He lays his head back onto your breasts, too tired to protest. You continue to brush your fingers through his hair and he starts to doze off listening to your heartbeat. You’re not sure if you have fallen asleep or not, but Sangyeon’s raspy voice rouses you.
“Y/n?”
“Hmm?”
Sangyeon lifts himself up to face you and places a soft kiss on your forehead as he speaks. “To be honest,” Then places another kiss on the tip of your nose. “I wasn’t originally looking forward to this assignment.” Then on your cheek. “But I’m glad we got paired together.” And finally leans in for a kiss on your lips.
You smile into the kiss then meet his eyes. “Me too.”

A/N: Just a very self-indulgent one shot inspired by a dream I had recently. Listening to Daylight while thinking of Sangyeon definitely devastated me lol. Also, I just needed to get this quickly out of my head so apologies for any mistakes. Hope you like it! Graphics by @saradika-graphics!

“Aaaand that’s the last of it,” Sangyeon huffed, placing down the heavy bags you brought home.
“Why are you acting like you carried the sun?” You laughed, playfully smacking his arm.
He fell to the floor with a thud and wailed dramatically, “MY ARM IS FALLING OFF WOE IS ME WHATEVER WILL I DOOOoo OW-“
“Can your arm maybe fall off when you’re not in the middle of the doorway? It’s seriously too hot for this.” Jacob asked, nudging Sangyeon with his leg while he stepped over him.
Grinning, Sangyeon flew to his feet and he and Jacob began bickering as they usually did. Giggling to yourself you brought your bags the rest of the way in, placing them down in your childhood room. It was your last summer break before you graduated with your degree and you decided to spend this one back at home since you were thinking about applying to jobs in other cities. Other people suggested doing internships, but you had been doing them since you began your undergraduate studies. One summer to yourself before another major life change wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
Looking around the room there was evidence of the three of you hanging out. It was always Sangyeon, the boy who lived across the street, Jacob, and you, Jacob’s younger sibling. No matter where they went, you were sure to follow. As you walked through your childhood room you couldn’t help but be amazed at how many memories had been laid out by your parents before they went on their cruise. So many years of the dumbest things: mainly you all getting into trouble.
“Ah! I never thought I’d see that mud picture again,” Sangyeon said, startling you.
“Sorry,” Jacob smiled sympathetically, “I could only take so much of his jokes.”
Sangyeon offered you a wink and you caught on.
“Well that’s not the only thing you mmFH-“ your brother’s hand was over your mouth silencing you immediately, but it was too late.
“Whaaat is that what happened with that one-“ Sangyeon laughed before Jacob was covering his mouth next.
“Whoa Cobie I don’t know if I’m the right person for this move,” Sangyeon joked after removing Jacob’s hand from his mouth.
During their playfight Jacob had accidentally covered Sangyeon’s mouth as his back hit the wall. Rolling his eyes, Jacob removed his hand.
“Love you guys, but I really need to unpack and I don’t want to be part of,” you gestured to them, “whatever is happening here.”
“Alright, alright,” ruffling your hair, Jacob nodded at the door and began to leave your room.
“We still on for tomorrow?” Sangyeon asked.
“What’s happening tomorrow?” You questioned, never one to be left out of their plans even if you had literally just gotten back.
“We’re going paddle boarding! I was going to ask if you wanted to come with at dinner,” Jacob replied.
Nodding, you gave them a thumbs up before turning back to your bags full of clothes. As they left you couldn’t help but smile to yourself. This is going to be a great summer.
--
You wake to sounds of rummaging coming from across the hall. Looking at the time, it was 9am and the paddle boarding trip wasn’t until 11 so there was no reason for the rummaging to be so frantic. Sleepily you walked over to Jacob’s room, knocking loud enough for him to hear.
“Everything ok in there?”
A thud hits the door before Jacob appears before you in his work clothes grimacing.
“That’s a weird paddle board suit but I’ll give you a C for the effort,” you mused.
“The boss called me in today,” Jacob said, pushing past you to put his shoes on, “she said that we had a meeting that needed everyone present but forgot to tell me when approving the day off.”
You crossed your arms at this news; your brother’s boss was known for doing this often (at least that’s what Sangyeon told you). He hadn’t been able to hang out much and he requested in advance that he had this day off to spend with you since you were finally in town again, but unfortunately it was a meeting with the upper bosses. Definitely one that couldn’t be missed.
“So what am I supposed to tell Sangyeon?” You frowned, it was only your second day back and you were already going to be the bearer of less than optimal news.
“Tell him I’m so sorry and that Angela forgot that today had an important meeting I couldn’t miss,” he said while ruffling your bedhead.
Swatting at him you gestured towards the front door, “go on, being late is the last thing you’d need after all that.”
“I’ll make it up to you two, I swear,” Jacob said, and you believed him. Jacob always did his best to keep his word and was someone that you knew you could always rely on in troubling times.
Your eyes followed his car out of the driveway, sighing a bit before they landed on a figure who was walking your way. Sangyeon scratched his head as he watched the car pull off before crossing the street to get to you.
“Please don’t tell me-“ he started.
“Angela forgot about an important meeting and he had to go,” you reiterated, frowning slightly. “He said he’d make it up to us, so maybe we should wait for him before we-“
“No way, we should definitely still go,” Sangyeon said, “I already got all my paddle boarding things out and it’s been forever since I’ve seen you..”
He whispered the last part, but it had caught your ear. You had always been fond of Sangyeon. He had been a constant in your life for so long, and the way he was pouting as he looked at you just made you want to wipe it off his face.
“Okay,” you smiled, “but I get the red board.”
“Fiiiiine,” he said with a smile.
“And ice cream”
“Okay now you’re pushing it,” he joked, shoving you with his shoulder.
--
As you both headed to the beach, the topics were overflowing. What you’ve been up to, what your friends were like, if there were any clubs you’d joined other than the ones you were already part of. It struck you as a bit odd since you thought he would have known the answers to these questions but you tell him anyway. He just really enjoys seeing the sparkle in your eyes when you talk about the things you like and he wished, no, hoped that you talked about him like that when your friends talk about home.
Growing up across the street from you was one of the best and worst things that happened to him. One of the best because he never had to look far if he ever missed you, but one of the worst because he fell for his best friend’s sibling and they had no idea. But Jacob wasn’t blind, and he could definitely see the way Sangyeon would quietly care for you when you weren’t paying attention. Adding food to your plate when you would serve everyone else, always making sure you got the comfy seats when the three of you would hang out, suggesting places he knew you’d love because it’s like he had a list in his brain, but most of all he could see the way he hung onto your words, even when he was trying to hide it. Sangyeon always made sure that you felt heard, and that your opinion had weight. Jacob wasn’t sure if you noticed it and didn’t say anything for his sake, but he felt that maybe this meeting was a blessing in disguise.
--
“YA,” you shouted, blocking the wave created by Sangyeon’s paddle with your hands.
Smirking, he began to paddle away, seated comfortably with his legs hanging on either side of the board. You were laying belly down, and he had argued that today was a day for paddle boarding, not for surfing, but you couldn’t be bothered to move. But Sangyeon knew just how to rile you up. He paddled himself in slow circles around you, “accidentally” splashing you with the full force of his paddle, but “I’m just trying to paddleboard here!”
You glared at him, “oh yeah? We should try it standing up. Last one standing has to buy the ice cream.”
You were not giving up on the ice cream.
“If you think you can handle it, let’s go little one,” he said, overconfident and underestimating the power of ice cream.
Sitting up on your board, you slowly get to your feet. It’s a bit shaky considering while you were in school you didn’t have time to surf much less paddleboard, but you find a way. After being firmly planted and balanced, you looked up to acknowledge your childhood friend but what you saw nearly made you fall over and lose immediately. Out of his own sheer determination to win, Sangyeon removed his swim shirt, and began to stand. You shook your head, determined to focus on balancing and definitely not your best friend who looked like he did nothing but work out seven days a week and probably twice a day some days.
“Oh? Don’t mind me, it was just getting hot out here under all this sun,” he grinned, watching you attempt to school your expression.
You snapped your head down to your paddle and after a few seconds of deliberation began to paddle toward him.
“Yknow I knew you missed me but, wait no you can’t that’s-“
You jumped directly on him, his body breaking the water followed by yours. Instead of holding on, you kicked your legs in order to reach the surface faster. You were laughing so hard your lungs hurt. The incredulous look on his face paired with seeing his larger form try so hard to use his little paddle to get away was too much for you to handle. You held onto his board and laid your head on it, trying to catch your breath before he surfaced. You always felt like a kid around him. He brought out a piece of you that allowed your inner child to shine and be happy. You knew in life you would always have your brother, but along with him, you would always have your Sangyeon. The waves shifted, and you felt two arms cage your form.
“That was SUCH a cheap move,” he whispered, his breath fanning your ear. He wasn’t touching you, but the proximity was making your head spin. He rested his chin on your left shoulder, feigning a pout.
Drawing in a shaky breath to steady yourself, you turned to face him.
“There weren’t any rules, so I guess you’re buying ice cream,” you teased, sticking your tongue out at him just like when you were kids.
He chuckled lowly, absolutely able to see that he was affecting you just as much as you affected him.
“On one condition”
“Depends”
“It’s a date”

Business or Pleasure? - Part 1
Tumblr media
Pairing: Lee Sangyeon x Female Reader
Genre: CEO AU, Fake Dating AU, Angst, Fluff
Word Count: 3.6k
Warnings: None
Standing outside of the massive concrete skyscraper, you take a deep breath and try not to let the giant monolith in front of you - and everyone inside of it - intimidate you. From the reflection of the street-lined windows, you can see the hesitancy on your face. The overwhelming feeling that you just stepped into a role you're unprepared for threatens to drown you, but you do your best to shove it aside.
Wiping that look of fear off your face, you smooth down your business suit and turn your head side to side to make sure your hair is still in place. When you're satisfied you look exactly as you did when you left the house, you hike your bag up your shoulder and give yourself a small nod.
You've got this.
Before you chicken out, you move over to the revolving door and walk into one of the turning sections. You count to three before you come out on the other side and look straight ahead to the receptionist.
His mahogany desk sits in front of a bank of elevators that are already well into being used. Employees scurry around you as you try to take in the open first floor. Stairs disappear into the walls of each side of the building - for those brave souls who refuse to wait with twenty other people for an elevator. The thought of climbing up to one of the top floors makes you want to vomit. You already know the day you have to use those stairs for any reason will be your last one as an employee because there's absolutely no way you'd put yourself through that.
The flooring under your feet catches your attention. Flecks of gold veins run through the hard marble stone, and you're positive that this section of floor alone costs more than your apartment. That feeling of "what are you doing here" starts to bubble up again, and you force yourself to move over to the receptionist's desk before you let it take hold.
The man looks up as you approach, and you can already tell he's a little younger than you. A wide smile takes over his face, causing his eyes to crease. You can almost feel the positive energy radiating off of him.
"Welcome! How can I help you?"
The warmth in his greeting helps remove some of your stress, and you smile back at him. "Hello… I'm a new hire… I'm supposed to be starting today, but I have no idea where to go…"
"That's no problem," he smiles. "Which company are you working for?"
"Lee Technologies Incorporated…" you nervously swallow as you remember you're now working for one of the biggest companies in the technological industry.
His eyes light up. "Hey! I have some friends that work for Lee Tech! Who's your boss?"
"Lee Sangyeon."
The smile vanishes from his face so rapidly that you almost take a step back. His suddenly wide eyes and slightly ajar mouth cause your heart to tumble down into your stomach. What the heck kind of reaction is this?
Almost like he can sense your guard coming up, he shakes himself from his stupor and focuses on his computer. "Um… What's your name?"
Once you give him your identification, your eyes fall to his nameplate. Eric Sohn. Your gaze flashes back up to him, taking in the wavy brown hair and the now hesitant expression on his face. His reaction has spooked you out even more than you already were. The urge to turn around and go right back out the exit grows until his attention comes back to you.
"Looks like you're going straight to the top floor…"
There's a look on his face like he wants to say more, but he holds himself back. You gnaw on your lip for a moment before you decide to just ask.
"I'm sorry, but why did you react like that when I told you his name?"
Eric's eyes widen like he got caught doing something he shouldn't have. He shakes his head. "I was just being… Actually, can I be honest with you?"
"Please."
He takes a deep breath. "He has a reputation around here… Everyone always talks about how mean and cold he is. He has a no-nonsense attitude, and I don't think I've ever seen the man smile. I have seen him fire five people, though, and I've only been here for three months."
All you can do is blink as he stares at you, waiting for your reaction. The spooked-out look is still on his face as you process his words. You've dealt with asshole bosses before, but you have to admit, Eric's reaction is freaking you out a little. Especially considering this mean cold man is now your direct boss… and you're his personal assistant.
"But I'm sure you'll be fine!" Eric smiles, trying to reassure you. "They're probably just rumors."
His smile is anything but reassuring, and you can tell he doesn't even believe his own words, but you nod anyway.
"Thank you… I should probably go," you say, backing away from his desk and hooking your thumb toward the elevators.
"Yes! You absolutely do not want to be late!"
The two of you exchange goodbyes, and you move over to the bank of elevators, standing just behind a group that's waiting to go up. They silently watch the elevator come down thanks to the numbered panels above each door, and you think over everything Eric just told you.
What you've just learned about your new boss both surprises you and doesn't. Knowing that Lee Sangyeon is the CEO of Lee Technologies, you kind of expected that he would have the same kind of reputation as most CEOs out there - rude, unforgiving, an asshole - but to hear that he has fired so many people in such a short time is wild. To find out that his reputation has preceded him all the way to the building's receptionist is surprising.
An elevator door slides open, and you shuffle inside along with the rest of the herd. You find yourself pressed against the side opposite the buttons, and you watch as everyone punches in their floor numbers. Nearly every floor except for 75.
With an internal sigh, you ask the man next to the panel if he can push the button for you. His eyebrows raise, and you notice a couple of people glance over at you, but he eventually hits the button. Thanking him, you lean against the wall and prepare for the long ascent.
The interview you had for this job pops into your brain, and you replay it for any hints. Mr. Lee wasn't there, as he was apparently too busy, but you were interviewed by a couple of other higher-ups in the company, and everything seemed pretty professional. You didn't get the idea that they were trying to hire for a jackass or anything.
As the elevator moves higher and more people get on and off, you decide to push Eric's words out of your mind. They don't need to be there with you on your first freaking day. You need to focus on the matter at hand, not the rumors about your boss.
By the time you reach the 75th floor, you've calmed yourself, and you're once again ready to take on the day. You step out of the elevator with your head held high and approach the first desk you see.
Assumingly, the friendly older lady behind the desk is another receptionist - one for this specific floor - and you smile at her. She politely greets you, and when she realizes who you are, she stands up and comes around her desk.
"If you'll just follow me this way," she says as she begins to lead you past a series of cubicles toward the far wall of the building.
You barely get a chance to look around as you walk through because the first thing you notice is the stares from half of the room. With each cubicle you pass, more heads swivel your way. The noise of the room ahead of you gets quiet, but with each step of your foot, the murmurs behind you rise. You imagine this is the same treatment you'd get if you rolled around in a pile of pig shit and stepped into a room full of people.
Daring to meet some of their eyes, you're surprised to find pity or sympathy in them. All you can wonder is what the hell this man has done to earn such a response. Especially when you overhear someone telling someone else that you're the new mob boss's assistant.
Mob boss? Really? What's next? Are they going to call him Satan?
"Ignore them, dear," the elder lady's words float back to you. "Most of them are afraid of their own shadows."
She comes to a stop outside of a wooden door and knocks. You glance at the windows on either side of it, but the blinds are closed, effectively sealing the CEO away from the peasants. Looking over to your right, you notice a neat, sparse desk. The only thing on top of it is a computer, a keyboard, and an empty filing tray.
The door opens, and you're greeted with the sight of your new mob boss. Your heart picks up speed as you take in the attractive man in front of you, but you keep your expression neutral. Mr. Lee looks between the two of you before he moves away from the door and walks over to stand in front of his desk.
Forcing your feet to move, you step inside his office and take in the view. It's very neat and orderly with few decorations. Bookshelves take up the entire right wall, showcasing texts on computers, the internet, etc. Some of the shelves have little knick knacks and bland decor pieces. A couple of them have picture frames featuring Mr. Lee and people you assume to be his family and friends.
His desk is just as tidy as the shelves, and you quickly make a mental note that your new boss clearly likes things to be in order. No clutter, no trash. Your eyes sweep past him - because you're absolutely not ready to take in his features again - and land on the floor-to-ceiling windows that take up the entire wall behind him. The view is impressive. The entire city seems to be sprawling at his feet, and you can't help but wonder how fitting that probably is.
When the silence of the room registers in your ears, you look back at Mr. Lee and the receptionist and find them both staring at you. Realizing the lady introduced you, you walk over and shake Mr. Lee's waiting hand.
"It's nice to meet you, sir."
"You, as well," he murmurs.
You force yourself to take a step back and meet his gaze. The man is… absurdly attractive.
He's a couple of inches taller than you. Not enough that you have to tilt your heads to look at each other, but enough that it's obvious who's taller. His tanned skin peeks out at his collar, and you can't help but notice how smooth and flawless it looks. His face is adorned with prominent, thick eyebrows and a pointed nose, but the real eye-catcher is his lips - full and pretty pink.
He's a handsome man, especially with his hair swooped to the sides of his face, showing off his forehead. You ignore the fact that your heart is probably going to beat out of your chest every time you see him and focus on the fact that you're most likely gonna have to kick quite a few women to the curb for him. Great.
"That'll be all, Mrs. Park. Thank you."
Mrs. Park bows her head and turns for the door. She flashes you a smile as she goes and you find yourself smiling back. When you turn back to Sangyeon, you notice him staring blankly at you, and the smile falls from your face.
"There are a few things I expect from you as my assistant. Number one, be on time. I don't know why I have to point that out when it should be obvious, but apparently, some people just don't get it. Number two, if I ask for something once, please don't make me ask a second time. If it's something important, do it right away. Don't think it can wait for five minutes or until you're done with whatever it is you're doing."
He pauses, and you nod your head to show him you're listening. Satisfied, he continues.
"Third, try to keep your desk neat. You're an extension of me, so please don't allow your area to look messy. Lastly, I don't expect you to learn my lunch or coffee order. Don't worry about stuff I can take care of on my own. I want your focus to be on the actual work I have you doing."
"Yes, Mr. Lee," you respond because those are all very reasonable requests and ones you already expected. Well, not the food one… You expected to be his little gopher in that area.
He nods. "Great, then we should be all set. Everything else I assume you'll learn along the way. If you have any questions - as long as they're not moronic - feel free to ask me."
You ignore the last remark because you already know if you're coming to this man with a question… It's because it’s your absolute last resort.
"Your desk is right outside of my office. You're free to go settle in for now. I'll have Mrs. Park send someone over to give you a tour of the office.
"Thank you, sir." You turn to go, but his voice stops you.
"Mr. Lee is fine. You don't need to call me sir."
Glancing back at him, you see him move behind his desk without another look your way. Shrugging it off, you exit his office and walk the few feet to your desk.
It's a decent-sized desk. The dark wood makes it appear expensive. For all you know, it probably is. You settle down into the cushy desk chair, and you're pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it is. The monitor and keyboard are, of course, state-of-the-art. You can't own a technology company and give your employees crappy electronics.
Remembering your shoulder bag that's been tucked tightly between your arm and torso, you pull out the few pieces you brought and start setting up your desk exactly how you want it. Along the way, you find brand-new supplies tucked in your top drawer and a sticky note with a username and password on top of them. Just as you type the information into the computer, a figure steps up next to your desk.
Looking up, you see a younger-looking man smiling at you. His dimples immediately pop out, and his smile causes the edge of his eyes to crinkle. You'd almost think he's too young to work here, but his sharp, intelligent eyes disprove that theory.
"Hello, I'm Changmin," he introduces himself. "I've been sent to give you a tour."
His eyes flash to the windows behind you, and you feel yourself deflate just a tad more. Apparently, the entire building is convinced you work for Voldermort.
"Great! Thank you," you push your pessimism to the side and stand up. "I have absolutely no idea where anything is."
Changmin starts up the same aisle you originally came down, expecting you to follow. You quickly walk behind him as he points out the different departments that you're beginning to notice the cubicles are situated in. He shows you the supply room and where the other higher-ups' offices are, and then he shows you the break room.
Only a couple of people are in there, but they all stop what they're doing to look up at you. The sigh you make must've been louder than you meant it to be because Changmin looks back at you with a raised brow.
"Everything okay?"
Deciding to be candid, you ask, "Is everyone going to do that every time they see me?"
His lips purse to one side as he decides how to respond. "Mr. Lee has -"
"A reputation. I know."
He nods. "Look, I'm just going to be honest with you. Mr. Lee is serious. He doesn't joke around, and he won't hesitate to discipline someone. He's cold to 95% of the people who work here, and we consider it a national holiday when that man smiles."
"That's pretty much what I've been told," you glumly reply.
Changmin furrows his brows. "Who told you all of that? You've been here for like five minutes."
"The receptionist on the ground floor looked like he was going to pee his pants."
Changmin laughs and nods. "Eric. Yeah, he's heard some horror stories… Speaking of which, there's a bar down the block that some of us go to after work. You should come sometime."
Already nodding, you say, "Sure, that sounds nice… and depending on how work goes, I may need to thoroughly drown my sorrows."
Changmin shakes his head, letting a little laugh slip out before he gets serious again. "Form your own opinions about Mr. Lee because for how serious and cold he comes across, he's the best at what he does. He cares about the company and the people who work for it. He's calm, and he's got a level head. All you have to do is do your job like he asks, and you'll be fine."
Once the tour concludes, you head back to your desk. Having that conversation with Changmin has surprisingly calmed your nerves, and you feel slightly better. You're happy to know that your boss isn't a total ass. There's empathy somewhere in there.
For the next few hours, you get a handle on your job. You quickly begin to understand what Mr. Lee wants, and find that everything he has asked for is completely reasonable… You learn how to file his paperwork, he's made sure his schedule is synced up with yours, so you're aware of all of his meetings, and he's made sure you have everything you need. Everything has gone… swimmingly. Especially considering all of the warnings you’ve had about him.
Just after lunch, a nervous duo stops in front of your desk. You look up to find a pale redhead and her blonde counterpart anxiously watching you. Putting your pen down, you ask, "Can I help you?"
"We have a meeting with Mr. Lee…" The woman quietly responds. "Janette Davis and Mark Greene."
With a nod, you pull up Mr. Lee's schedule and see that he does in fact have a meeting with them. You look back up at the pair, noticing how close they're standing and how they carefully pretend not to look at each other.
Figuring you won't make them wait any longer, you stand up and motion for them to follow you. Knocking on Mr. Lee's door twice, you push open the door when he answers you.
"Mr. Lee, Ms. Davis and Mr. Greene are here."
He nods, and you back away, allowing the couple to pass you. Just before you move to shut his door and go back to your seat, Mr. Lee's voice stops you.
"Would you mind staying in here as a witness?"
Your stomach drops to your feet, but you quietly nod and shut the door. The energy of the room is tense. Mark and Janette look afraid, and you couldn't feel more awkward if you wanted to. Mr. Lee notes all of this and motions for the couple to sit in the chairs at his desk, while his gaze finds yours and he subtly nods to the couch below the windows. Quickly complying with his silent order, you take a seat and listen.
Mr. Lee's eyes carefully look between the two employees. From your vantage point, you can see Mark nervously fidgeting. Janette is sitting ramrod straight in her chair.
"I was made aware that the two of you were caught in… less than ideal circumstances during company time." He falls silent and raises a brow until they both confirm it. "I'm sure you're both well aware that I don't approve of employees screwing around when they're supposed to be working. Do whatever you want outside of this building, but when you're here, your time belongs to the company."
The couple mumbles, "yes, Mr. Lee," and he slightly nods before continuing.
"The next time I'm made aware of another incident, you'll both be transferred to other branches. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes," they simultaneously reply.
Mr. Lee's eyes find yours, and you notice his pointed stare. You sit up a little straighter when you realize this message is for you as well. He notices your reaction and then focuses back on the couple in front of him, leaving you wondering if you truly saw the quick uptick of the corner of his lips like you thought you did.
"Now that we're all on the same page, that'll be it. You can go back to work now."
The couple jumps out of their chairs and scurries from the room like it's on fire. Mr. Lee watches them flee for a moment and then focuses his attention on you.
"Everyone here gets one warning, and that includes you. Show up on time and do what you're told, and you'll be golden. Mess around and waste my time, and you'll be gone before you can even comprehend what's happening. Got it?"
You don't know why you do it. You have absolutely zero clue why the words fall from your lips. Maybe it's because his words trigger your defensive streak, but you hear yourself replying, "yes, sir," in response. This time, you're positive you see the corner of his mouth lift.

Tumblr media
It's been three days. Three days filled with coffee and energy drinks coursing through her system at all times. Three days filled with hourly alarms blaring 24/7. Three days of utter fear and debilitating paranoia eating away at her psyche.
Three days she's been awake.
Three days since she last slept.
Three days since she last saw him.
(y/n) remembered what it had felt like when he first came to her. A pleasant, if ever fleeting, moment within a dream. She couldn't even remember what the dream was about, but she remembered him.
Like a beacon of light, he seemed like an angel. A handsome face with a charming smile, doting upon her as she went about her dreamscape. His touch still lingered on her as she awoke the next morning, a barren emptiness filling her heart as she came to terms with her literal dream man being nothing more than a figment of her imagination.
The next night, however, he was there again. And she began to process where she was. A heaven like realm of pink skies dusted with light and fluffy clouds, viridescent plains of grass stretching over hills and weaving between woods, distant mountains reaching above and towering over the little nook she found herself in.
And there atop a hill, leant against a tree, staring forth into the beauty of this world, was that boy again. His eyes lazily trailed over to her, and upon spotting her, a smile stretched across his face.
His touch was gentle as he brought her over to him, his hands calloused and rough yet tender upon her as he spoke endless mantras of adoration. Sweet nothings that warmed her insides and relaxed her muscles. It almost felt like taking a calmative of sorts, that numbness that spreads through your body until all you want to do is sleep. Instead, she remained talking to him for what felt like hours of the night.
His name was Sangyeon, and he introduced himself as what her dreams are made of. It sounded nice and lovely, just like him, and she grew even more enamored by the man her mind created.
For the next week, her nights were filled with nothing but Sangyeon. And just as he had assured her, he truly was her personal fantasy. The sickly sweet, saccharine sensation of happiness seeping from every encounter she had with the man. That blithe elation which comes with love. That hollowness when she'd wake up, that undeniable yearning that ate away at her, was still present, though grew weaker as the days passed, knowing she'd fall asleep and reunite with him once more.
At first, nothing seemed astray. Her days seemed brighter, her nights more comfortable. Sleep had gone from being a vague or otherwise tasking matter that was inevitable of her to pursue, to the thing she looked forward to most at the end of the day. She craved the feeling of Sangyeon's arms wrapped around her, his voice as he spoke sweet nothings into her ears, his all consuming presence that swarmed her every waking thought.
(y/n) didn't think much of it the first time she slept past her alarm. It was only five minutes. Five minutes well spent with her fantasy of a man serenading her with lovely songs and sending her into this tranquil state of peace. Though five minutes soon became ten minutes past the initial alarm, and soon thirty. It had gotten to a point that her boss had to pull her aside and warn her of the penalties of being consistently late.
She didn't know what was happening. Why it was becoming harder and harder to wake up. One solution she came up with was to have three alarms, all at full blast, loud enough to jostle her through that muddled dream state that drowned out all the noise about her. She was getting to work on time again, albeit still acutely aware of the concerning matter at hand.
Though soon the cycle of late wake ups commenced again, and she was now considering other options. Even creating a Rube Goldberg machine that would dunk water on her head, or something similar to this extreme.
It was four nights ago. Sat beside Sangyeon, pressed to his side while he hummed lovely melodies for her. Comfort. Serenity. Warmth. Her lovely, perfect dream. Her ears were tuned into his low voice playing a tune of sorts, though she began picking up another sound. A monotonous droning, overlapping in a way, though still consistent enough for her to detect that it wasn't human.
"Oh, my alarms!" (y/n) called out, scrambling to her feet. "I have to go."
"Why?" Sangyeon asked from behind her.
"I'm going to be late for work." How does she get out of here? Usually she just jolts awake. She's never been this aware of the situation at hand, though now that she was, she realized how loudly the alarms were blaring.
"Why do you care?"
"Well, no job, no money, no food, no rent, no life." She kept wandering about the plains of the dreamscape, head turning about in all directions in hopes of finding an exit.
"You can always stay here with me. I'll take care of you."
"That's a tempting offer, but you're just my dream! I'll see you again when I go to sleep."
A hand grasped her wrist, tugging her back almost violently in a way. She whirled around to face Sangyeon, his face as gentle as it always was.
"It doesn't matter that I'm just a dream. Come with me. We can live here together forever."
It was a tempting offer. It truly was. With how repetitive her days were becoming, as well as that dull and tedious ambience that seems to encompass much of life, the thought of living in an Eden of her own creation with her literal dream of a man was quite the proposal.
Sangyeon's charming smile swept her off her feet, and for a moment, she truly was compelled to abandon everything beyond this paradise, and fall further in Sangyeon's embrace. Though the alarms seemed to only grow louder and louder with intensity.
"I… I can't, I have to go. There's so much—" She was cut off with a yelp as her arm was yanked closer to him, his grip unforgiving as he suddenly glowered down at her with these cold and murderous eyes. Eyes which gleamed with this insatiable hunger. Eyes she's never seen from the man before.
"You think I'll let you go after I've gotten this far?" He spat out, voice laced with this venomous disdain towards (y/n) that left her trembling beneath his presence. "You think I've escaped the confinement of your consciousness just to let you slip away?" His fingers near dug into her skin, (y/n) wincing as he grew more and more violent in his mannerisms.
So many things ran through her mind. Questions and concerns, wondering what was happening, why couldn't she get out of this, why did this feel so terrifyingly real? Yet her mind blanked as she stuttered out the only words she could muster.
"What are you?" A grin spread across his face, a rictus of utter madness, as if her state of trepid vulnerability delighted him to no end.
"I am so much more than a figment of your imagination. I am what your psyche tries so desperately to hide. I am that ceaseless darkness that lurks in the recesses of your mind. I am your worst fears, your crippling insecurities, your intrusive thoughts that drive you mad. I am the insanity that is staved away by sleep." He drew closer to her, nails digging into her skin. His other hand grasped her face, squeezing it between his grip with only a fraction of his strength. "But I've so nearly got you. I'm so close to having you. You just need to give up."
"No." She didn't know where that sudden surge of confidence derived from, but it seemed to only spur on Sangyeon and his madness as he leaned even closer to her face.
"Give up." He spat out. "Give up. Give up. Give up. Give up—"
(y/n) awoke with a shuddered jolt, heart hammering away at her chest, breath labored as she attempted to regain some semblance of a composure. The alarms blared incessantly around her, their jarring ruckus grating upon her ears, though the sound was a near symphony to her. The things which managed to save her from near death. Because as she woke up, she still felt the remnants of his iron grip upon her, and a glance down at her wrist confirmed her worst nightmares.
Hopelessly cradling the now bandaged wound to her chest, which was once bruised and bloodied beyond recognition in the same spots that Sangyeon had grasped her, she glanced at the clock on her wall. It had now officially been four days since she last slept. She didn't have much time left.
In a predicament like her own, she was met with two conclusions. Either she falls asleep, accepts what her body has been craving for so long, allow herself to shut down and embrace slumber with its ever so loving embrace, only to then get devoured by the creature living within her subconscious; or, she lives until her body decides for her, crashing in on itself with the degradation of exhaustion plaguing her weary from. Either way, this was the end of her. A test of her might, and how far her physical corporeal form could reach. Seeing what her limit as a human was.
Because even now, as she remains fully conscious, fresh dose of coffee running through her system to keep her as alert as possible, she can feel it. She can feel his presence inside her head. She can hear his voice somewhere deep within. She can feel his eyes monitoring her. She can feel him waiting for her.
He knew he won. It was only a matter of time, and he could wait a few more days.

"Who the fuck put mistletoe here!"~ Lee Sangyeon
Tumblr media
It was Christmas Eve, you were looking at your reflection in the mirror, making sure everything looked perfect. Your hair, make-up and dress all looked amazing. You took a couple selfies for your socials when you got a message.
Sunwoo: I'm outside!
You quickly replied with an "okay!" before slipping into a pair of heels and grabbing your clutch bag. Where were you going on Christmas Eve so dressed up? A party of course! Your cousin Sunwoo had invited you over to the dorms to celebrate Christmas with him and the other members.
As you left your apartment, you saw Sunwoo's car parked outside. You quickly go over and get in the passenger seat, smiling at the boy.
"Hey cuz, are you ready?" He asked.
"Yeah, let's go!" You cheered.
Sunwoo started driving to the dorms, music playing softly in the background.
"Thanks for inviting me." You mentioned as he drove.
"No problem, I know you've been through a lot these past couple months and need a night to relax, plus you know all the guys." He replied.
You smiled, only a small one. You appreciate your cousin trying to cheer you up. The past couple months have been rough. You lost your job, your previous boyfriend was cheating on you and your parents moved back down to your birth city of Busan, due to your grandmother - not the one you share with Sunwoo - being ill. So the last couple months hadn't been the greatest, but you knew, you could always trust your cousin.
When you arrived at the dorms and entered the loud place, the others instantly greeted you with smiles and hugs. The biggest smile and longest hug came from a certain leader. Sangyeon was always so kind towards you, gentle and supportive. After Sunwoo, he was the first you told about your bad luck. Crying into his arms after your ex broke your heart. You loved all the members, but Sangyeon had a different kind of love.
"Now the guest of honour is here, let's get this party started!" Kevin cheered loudly.
You smiled at the rowdy boys, all able to make you smile and laugh instantly. Within the next few minutes, music was playing loudly, a few of the guys were singing loudly and drinks were flowing. Everyone was having a good time.
As you chatted with Chanhee, he noticed his eldest Hyung looking at you, ignoring what Haknyeon was talking about. Chanhee giggled, making you confused.
"Sorry, you have an admirer. Don't look though." He told you.
You looked at him confused, "Who is it?" You asked.
"Hyung." He answered vaguely.
"That doesn't help since your a middle child." You mumbled, making the boy laugh.
"You should know who, the one who hugged you the longest, the first one to greet you." He said, trying to jog your brain.
It then clicked, making you blush, "Sangyeon." You said quietly.
Chanhee nodded and smiled. He then noticed your cup empty and nodded his head to the kitchen.
"Go get yourself another drink." He suggested.
You agreed and walked into the kitchen, the music was a bit quieter now. You looked at the various drinks and got what you like the look off. Just as you were about to leave, Sangyeon just so happened to walk in. He smiled and placed his empty cup down.
"Hey, are you enjoying the party?" He asked.
"Yeah it's fun, but I think Sunwoo is close to getting drunk, he just doesn't know when to stop, does he." Your answered with a giggle.
Sangyeon smiled, your giggles were like music to his ears. He could listen to them all day.
As you and Sangyeon had a small conversation in the kitchen, back in the living room, Chanhee had managed to grab a small piece of mistletoe and was placing it in the doorway. The others watching closely.
"What's your plan?" Jacob asked the younger male.
"Easy, get them to stand under the mistletoe and they kiss." Chanhee answered.
"Woooo!" Sunwoo drunkenly cheered.
"You should sit down, Hyung." Eric said, guiding the older one to sit.
Just then, you and Sangyeon walked in, Juyeon, Hyunjae and Younghoon blocking the way so neither of you could avoid the mistletoe.
"What's going on?" Sangyeon asked.
"Look up." Younghoon said with a smile.
Both you and Sangyeon looked up, seeing the mistletoe above you. You blushed as Sangyeon shouted.
"Who the fuck put mistletoe here!"
The others all laughed as you stepped closer to Sangyeon, he looked down at you as you smiled.
"So.." You started. He chuckled and moved closer, resting a hand on your cheek.
"Come here."
He pulled you closer as your lips connected in a sweet, lovingly kiss. You closed your eyes as the others cheered around you. When you both pulled away, you were both beaming with joy, bright smiles.
"I've wanted to ask you for a while....but will you let me take you on a date, show you how a real man can treat you?" He asked.
You smiled up at him, "of course" You replied happily.
With that, and another sweet kiss, you all went back to partying. Not before Chanhee spoke up.
"It was me who put the mistletoe up." He said.
"Well, thanks." Sangyeon said to him, the boy feeling proud of his small, but successful plan.

This was really a mix-up. It had to be. The head of staff for The Boyz gave you your hotel room key and sent you on your way. The room that the key unlocked, though, was definitely not shared with another makeup artist or stylist. You knew that suitcase. It’s Sangyeon’s. The idol is nowhere to be seen at the moment, but you know the moment he sees you, there will be only two things that could happen. One: he gives you a dirty look and lets the staff know you need a different room. Or two: he gives you a piece of his mind. You’re really hoping for the first scenario, but you know the second is more likely.
Just a week ago, you were under him getting the fucking of your life. You went to work the next day with very dark hickeys littering your neck. Of course, the other stylists snickered about it, knowing that you and Sangyeon had been exchanging flirtatious words in passing. When one of them asked you how it was, you decided to lie. Why? You couldn’t explain. What you had said was that he was the worst lay of your life. The singer passed by the moment the words left your mouth. If looks could kill, you’d be six feet under right now.
The door to the bathroom pops open, and there he is. Speak of the devil, and he shall appear. Again, the look he gives you could kill.
“What are you doing in here?” he asks flatly.
“U-um,” you stutter.
“I asked you a question.” he snaps.
“I’m staying in here too. I- I think there was a mix-up. I’ll go talk to the head of staff n-”
Sangyeon grabs ahold of your chin and forces you to look at him, “I think you’re just fine right here. We need to have a chat. Don’t we?”
You gulp and get lost in his sharp dark eyes. Somehow, you still find yourself nodding.
“Go sit on your bed.”
You scurry off and sit on the unclaimed bed that you assume to be yours now. Sangyeon’s footsteps sound behind you. They’re slow. Just enough to make your heart beat a little faster. Whether that faster beating was due to anxiety or arousal, you wouldn’t admit. The idol rounds the bed and tilts your chin up to look at him from your seated position.
“What’s this rumor I hear about me being a bad lay?”
“I- I don’t know what you’re talking about.” you’re lying through your teeth, and he knows it.
“No? Even though I heard you say it to the other stylists in the green room the other day?”
You cursed at yourself internally, “I was just playing around. I didn’t mean it.”
“No?” he scoffs, “You sounded pretty serious to me.”
You feel as though you may cry if he keeps talking to you with this condescending tone. Deep down, you know why you said he’s a bad lay. You want to keep him all to yourself. If people think he’s bad in bed, then they won’t go after him. That is a perfectly logical reason to say such a thing. You guess now’s as good a time as ever to admit that out loud.
“I-” you stop yourself with a shaky breath, “I wanted to keep you for myself. If people assume you suck at sex, they won’t go for you.”
“Oh, princess,” he chuckles, “I thought we said that was a one-time thing. What happened?”
“I dunno,” you mumble.
“Do you want another go at me?” he asks, dead serious.
Your eyes snap up to his again. (You hadn’t even realized you looked away). You think he’s playing a sick joke on you at first, but then you see that same lustful passion swirling in his eyes.
“Yes.” you breathe out, “More than anything.”
“Well, I was about to get in the bath and relax before you walked in. So, how about we share that bath? There’s room enough for both of us.”
Part of this feels like a trap. A fun one, but nonetheless, a trap. Despite squinting your eyes at him slightly, you still find yourself nodding at his offer. He offers a hand out to you, and you take it. He’s being surprisingly gentle with you despite how filthily he was talking to you meer moments ago. The moment he has you in the bathroom, you find yourself pinned to the door and his lips on yours. You want nothing more than to melt into his touch. He smirks into the kiss before pulling away, much to your dismay. His eyes swirl with lust when his eyes fall on yours. You know you’re returning that same look, just more debauched than him already.
“Go on, strip, and get in the bath. I’ll be right there,” he commands gently.
His eyes stay on you as you strip. Not once does he look away from you. As you walk over to the freestanding tub and step into the warm water, you throw a look back at him over your shoulder. His already haphazardly tied robe is hardly closed anymore. It’s just closed enough to cover his member. Your eyes linger over his muscular body for a while. When your eyes travel back up to his, you find him with that same cocky smirk resting on his lips. He lets the robe fall from his body. Despite being nearly fully emersed in the water, you feel a rush of arousal through your body. He approaches the tub, and you move forward to allow him to join you in the water.
“Now,” he starts, his hands trailing down your body already, “You ready for me to remind you about what it feels like to be with me?”
A shiver runs through you, “Yes, please,”
“Who are you talking to?”
“Yes, please, Daddy. Want to feel you again.”
His fingers gently graze over your nipples, and he chuckles lowly at the slight whimper you let out. His hands wander lower into the water, one purchase on your hip while the other starts to rub circles over your clit. Your head falls back against his shoulder. Sangyeon turns his face and captures your lips in another heady kiss. His fingers tease at your entrance before slipping inside you properly. He doesn’t give you a single moment to process his actions. He fingers you at a fast pace from the start.
“D-daddy,” you whine.
“Yes?” he asks with a dominant tone, “What do you need?”
“More, need more.” you gasp, “Need you inside me.”
One moment you feel your orgasm slowly building; the next, it’s quickly fading. Sangyeon chuckles at you again when you whine about the lack of contact. He practically manhandles you, making the water splash up over the sides of the tub.
“Put your knees to the bottom of the tub, and hold onto the edge of it. I don’t want you falling.”
You do as you’re told, “W-what are you planning?”
“You want me to fuck you?”
You nod vigorously, “Please, please! Daddy, please fuck me.”
“That’s what I thought. Now, do you feel stable like that?”
You nod again, “Please just get inside me.”
The water splashes around you again slightly as the man behind you adjusts his position. Then, you feel the head of his cock pressing against your hole. You try to push back to get him inside you faster, but you feel one of his large hands smack down against your ass.
“Patience is a virtue, my dear.” he quips.
“One that I don’t fucking have.” you bite, “Just fuck me already.”
“Who the fuck do you think you’re talking to like that?” he growls, “Do I have to fuck that attitude out of you?”
“Maybe you do, Daddy,” you respond with a teasing lilt.
Sangyeon pushes into you in one smooth thrust. A broken moan escapes your lips, and your head falls forward in pleasure. The sound of the water sloshes around you as Sangyeon fucks you as if he hates you. The sound only adds an extra layer to the atmosphere of the bathroom. A part of you is thankful he’s fucking you from behind. Had you been facing him, you probably would’ve been even more of a wreck than you are currently.  Your forehead is pressed against your knuckles (which are gripping onto the edge of the tub tightly), and your body shivers from the hair against your wet skin. Still, you find yourself pushing back against Sangyeon’s thrusts every time. You don’t get to warn him when your orgasm comes slamming into you.
“Fuckin’ brat. Didn’t even ask me to cum.” he bites, still fucking you roughly.
“‘M sorry, Daddy,” you respond in a broken sob, “I learned my lesson. I’m not gonna say yo- you’re bad in bed anymore. Promise.
“Cute,” he scoffs, “You think we’re done just cause you came? Daddy’s not done with you yet. We have a long night ahead of us.”

✦ Kinktober Masterlist ✦
Tumblr media
Lee Sangyeon, student body president of your college. A model student and friendly to all. Everyone loves him, adores him, wants to be him - except you.
You hated his guts, mainly because for no reason he would always try to get on your nerves. He would tug on your ponytail, always correct you in class, embarrass you in front of guys who’d try to ask you out, and even subtly flip your skirt with his pen and comment on how short it is, saying how you either wore it for him or you’re just seeking attention like you usually do.
And you hated the way he’d smirk at you when you’d try to tell him off or get angry with him. It made you want to strangle him even more.
What made it even worse was when news about the vice president stepping down was going around. According to student body law, the president could choose whoever he wanted to become his right-wing. And out of all the people he could've chosen… it just had to be you.
You thought he’d go easy on you as soon as you started, that maybe he would treat you like a fellow peer even just a little bit. Maybe you could finally see the side of Sangyeon everyone seemed to adore.
But it only started going downhill from here.
Sangyeon treated you like you were his secretary (hell, even the actual student body secretary was treated better). He would constantly order you around, shut down your ideas, make you fetch his coffee in the morning (otherwise you’d “get a detention slip”), tell you to write all the notes during council meetings, and even be the one to inform his professors that he would be missing class during emergency meetings or varsity trainings.
You hate him so much to the point you would cry with the way he treated you like you were his beck and call. You wanted to to hit him where it hurt the most, put him in his place and realize how much of an ass he really is.
All your anger and frustration towards him was all you could ever think of, so much so that his face appeared in your dream one night, a dream that you would consider to be the most pornographic dream you’ve ever had.
Images of Sangyeon taking you from behind, pulling your hair and calling you his whore… You swear you could never look at him the same way again without feeling incredibly needy. You were embarrassed at yourself. Allowing your subconscious to think about him that way.
You hated him! …Right?
And ever since that dream, you started to become quiet around him. You would answer back less, avoid his gaze, you don't even look irritated when he would call out your name. You even stopped complaining about all the things he’d make you do.
And this new behavior of yours was starting to annoy him.
Where was the old you that would tell him to fuck off? The one whose face would turn red when he really pissed you off? Or the way you’d mumble something under your breath and when he’d asked you’d say “nothing.” The bratty behavior that would get under his skin and make him feel some kind of tingle in his veins.
Was there someone else grabbing your attention? Sangyeon wonders.
Maybe, he has seen you a couple of times with that tall guy. What was his name again? Younghoon? Or was it Hyunjae? In any case, the thought of someone else taking your attention away from him irked him deeply.
There was a reason why he picked you to be his vice president. There was something about you that was incredibly addicting, especially with the way you would react to his touch, his words, and whenever he would get close.
Or how adorable you would get when you were frustrated with him. And every time you'd knit your eyebrows together and huff, all he wanted to do was kiss your little bratty face.
He needed you to get mad at him again. He needed you to put all your focus on him and no one else.
Because in his mind, you belonged to no one else except him.
Tumblr media
“C’mon sweetheart, just tell me why you’ve been avoiding me.” He asks for the nth time as he corners you alone in the student council room.
“For the last time Sangyeon, I told you to drop it!” You huff in annoyance. You don't understand why he couldn’t just leave you alone, but at the same time the scent of his musky cologne was starting to intoxicate you. Flashes of your dream about him playing in your mind as you try to not let the blush creep onto your cheeks.
“I bet it’s because of Younghoon huh? What? Getting tired of me now? Looking for other people to give you more attention?”
“Wha- No! Are you fucking serious right now?” You couldn’t believe him.
“Seriously, how much more attention do you need in a day? You’re lucky I even find the time in my busy day to give you that.”
“I never asked for your attention Sangyeon! Why can’t you understand that?” You shout as you feel your body warming up from all the anger boiling inside you.
“Just admit it then! You just want someone to fuck you like the attention whore that you are-”
A loud slap echoes throughout the room. Tension building in the air as soon as the room fell silent. Sangyeon slowly turns his head back at you and as soon as you meet his gaze, you feel the adrenaline coursing through your veins.
You’re scared and excited at the same time, finally being able to hit his face after months of built up frustration but at the same time scared for your life with the darkness seeping through his eyes.
“Sangyeon.. I’m- I’m sorry.” You whisper.
“Do that again…”
“What?” Your eyebrows knit in confusion.
“I said… Do that again.” He demands.
For a split second you’re hesitant but then you remembered all the times he’s tormented you and treated you like dirt. You quickly slap his other cheek, the sound echoing louder than the first one.
The look in Sangyeon’s eyes in that moment was so primal. The way his dark orbs were staring you down in a way you’ve never seen before. The thrill and fear of the moment causing you to clench your thighs together.
He suddenly grabs you by your waist, harshly pulling you towards him as he smashes his lips against yours and gives you a deep passionate kiss.
Out of impulse, your hands push against his strong chest, trying to free yourself from his grip. But Sangyeon wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you in harder, trapping you in his embrace as he forcefully kisses you this time.
You whimper into the kiss, easily melting into his touch as you wrap your arms around his neck as you pull him even closer. Your kisses start out messy, teeth clashing against each other until you find a good rhythm.
“Mmm you taste so good.” Sangyeon mumbles against your mouth, savoring the feeling of your lips against his.
He’s suddenly caught off guard as you walk him backwards, the back of his knees hitting a chair as you forcefully push him down to sit and straddle his lap. Slipping your tongue in his mouth as you start to grind yourself onto his crotch.
“Shit, are you enjoying this?” He smirks at you but instead you roll your eyes and continue to kiss him, gripping his collar as if you’re attempting to strangle him.
“You still haven’t told me why you’ve been avoiding me by the way.” He tries to talk as you continue to kiss him.
“Just drop it already Sangyeon-” You snap at him, focusing on satisfying the ache between your thighs as you roll your hips. But Sangyeon grips your waist hard to stop your movements, making you whine.
“Tsk tsk tsk, can’t let you get what you want without answering me sweetheart. So tell me, why have you been avoiding me?”
“YOU! It’s because of you!” You shout as you tug on his collar.
“I had a dream where you fucked me. There! Is that what you wanted to hear?” Your chest heaving from the frustration.
“Yeah? You dreamt about me baby?” Sangyeon slowly smirks at you.
“Don’t call me that-”
“Why? does it get you all… hot and bothered?”
“Just shut the fuck up- ah!” Sangyeon sends a hard slap against your ass, making you yelp from the sudden sting.
“You don’t get to tell me what to do…” He says. His deep and stern voice enough to send electric jolts to your core.
“From this point on you’re gonna listen to me, got that?” You nod your head immediately. But Sangyeon grips your face harshly, making your jaw slack open. He spits into your mouth, making your eyes grow wide and moan from the vulgar act.
“Answer me.” His jaw clenches. “Or has humping me like a bitch in heat made you brain dead already?”
You shake your head, “I’ll listen to you, promise-”
“Good girl.” The corner of his lip slightly tugging upwards.
Sangyeon adjusts the both of you as he unbuckles his jeans and pulls out his monster cock from his boxers. You stare at his length for a moment, suddenly wanting to back out of the situation. You weren’t actually gonna fuck him. Maybe suck him off yeah but not this…
“Ride me.” He commands you.
“I- I can’t….” You stutter.
“Aw, shy all of a sudden? What’s the matter sweetheart?” He lifts your chin up to get a better look at your face.
“I-I cant, s’too big-” The fear in your voice turning him on just a little bit.
Sangyeon leans forward to kiss you delicately this time, contrasting his animalistic behavior moments ago.
“Shh, I’ll guide you yeah? Just relax.” He kisses you once again before lifting your hips up and hooking your panties to the side.
You slowly move your hips down, feeling the head of his cock slowly enter you. You start to panic as you can already feel him stretching you out like you’ve never been stretched before. Sangyeon starts to grow impatient at your pace and instead pushes your hips all the way down til his entire length is completely inside you.
“Sangyeon!” You yelp at the burning stretch of his size, immediately burying your face onto the junction between his neck and shoulder and dig your teeth into his skin. Sangyeon winces but moans at the bite, knowing it will definitely leave a mark on his shoulder later.
He kisses the side of your head as he rubs your back trying to soothe you as your walls adjust to him.
“Just sit here and moan out my name yeah? You can take it…” He whispers in your ear as his hands go under your skirt, holding your ass as he guides you to slowly bounce on his cock.
The slow repeated drag of his length from the head all the way to the base has your head spinning. You can feel him everywhere.
“Baby, you’re so wet-” He grunts as he grips your ass, fucking himself deep into your cunt like his fleshlight at home.
“We’re gonna have to add this to your list of responsibilities now don’t we?” He lightly chuckles.
“’Review meeting notes with Sangyeon’ or ‘Discuss to-do list with Sangyeon’ or maybe even-”
“Sshutt uuppp-” you mutter as you continue to place your focus on satisfying your own pleasure. But you’re soon caught off guard as Sangyeon suddenly pulls your hair from behind, making you moan from the pain.
“Behave…” He gives you a warning before attacking your neck with kisses. Your pussy tightens around his cock the more aggressive he becomes. Even Sangyeon notices your reaction.
“Shit, did that turn you on? You like it when I’m mean to you sweetheart?” He asks but your cunt clenches around him once again, giving Sangyeon the answer he needed.
“Getting fucked stupid you can’t even speak to me-” he grunts as he thrusts up into your walls. You mumble out incoherent words in response, words fading in your mind as all you can think about is his cock moulding its shape into you.
He grabs the back of your knees and stands up, still connected to you as he plops you down on his desk and starts to pound you relentlessly.
The sound of the table creaking, your wanton moans, Sangyeon groaning as he watches you cream on his length, it all fades into the distance as you feel all your senses become numb.
You don’t even have the words to tell him you’re reaching your orgasm. You just moan out his name in a slur and your body convulses. Legs twitching and arms shaking from holding yourself up on the desk.
You’re suddenly brought back to reality when you feel Sangyeon slap your face. Wincing at the sting on your cheek but whining as he stops thrusting himself into you.
“Did I fucking say you can cum on my cock?” He looks at you with angry eyes.
“M-s-sorryyy” you whine. But you moan once again as you feel his hand instantly grip your throat, the pads of his fingers digging into your skin.
"Too late now," Sangyeon hissed, his grip on your neck tightening,
"I'm gonna make you cum over and over until the only word you know is my name."

INSANITY: LEE SANGYEON
“i want you to make the darkness disappear. i want to drive to crazy. my love is dangerous.”
a lee sangyeon imagine based on the song insanity by the boyz: request from my lovely darling @winterchimez ☆
contains: mature themes¡ slightly toxic relationship¡ half angst¡ half fluff¡

“sunday morning.. rain is falling..” his sweet honey voice echoed through the room bouncing off the empty walls in a sinister melody. audible from the room next door, the tune broke the silence of the fresh aftermath of a recent argument lurked over the home.
living with sangyeon was glamorous hell:
- he’d treat you like royalty one day and hate your guts the next
- he’d shower you with gifts and love one day, then fill you with words hate and malice the next
- he’d surround you with everything you loved one day then surround you with your very worst nightmare the next.
the kind of love that draws you in and out but you just can’t let go of it. his bright white smile and sweet sycamore eyes were enough of an apology for his harsh little sayings that just seemed to slip off the tip of his tongue on his worst days.
“honey?” my ears pricked up at the endearment, beckoning me to listen like a siren to the words he had to say. “would you please lay with me a while, my head is feeling ill and i’d like some company.”
if only minutes before he wasn’t screaming about how he hated my very existence and how he didn’t want me in his space at all. he didn’t mean it. i tell myself in short snaps of thoughts that are evidently in denial. he was receiving therapy, which he drove himself to everyday to talk about his duplicitous behavior and lack of mind control. he’d bring home new medicines that sat in the cupboard rotting away for weeks as no placebo seemed to fool the voices in his head to go away.
which is why i feel that the antidote is to wrap my arms around him feeling his muscles relax and his eyes soften from a dark black to the familiar hazel brown they always were.
i trail my way over, in my silk garments bare footed against the polished wooden planks of the flooring, to the white leathered couch where he sprawled himself out like eros picking out fruit from a grape vine.
he gently whisked me into a romantic embrace, where i was warmed into his soft chest and cradled like a baby on his lap.
“will you make it go away?” he asked softly.
“make what go away, my cherub?” i replied stroking the soft wisps of hair away from his face.
“the darkness. will you rid of it for me?” his eyes sparkled with tears that had broken out of the lids that held them.
“of course i will.” i pulled his head into my chest with a sigh, unable to see the boy cry. his mind was broken, in fact shattered to pieces. with the difficult career he’d chosen and the abundance of trauma behind him - he loved me, he showed that on his best days.
“my love is dangerous for you.” he looked up with sorrow written all over each feature of his face.
“that’s okay darling. we’re working on it together.” i reply with an exhausted sigh which hung on to the tip of my lips.
“but i don’t deserve you. i’ll drive you as crazy as me-” he began to vomit words which attempted to erase everything he wishes he never did.
when i first met the boy he was likely in god’s line of favorite angels, a sweet boy with no bone that held the ability to kill no more than a small fly. his career had deduced him to no more than mere emblem of success that would never be fulfilled, an object for passersby to gawk at and observe.
but he was my baby boy, my knight in shining armor, no matter how dangerous his love was, no matter how much he pulled me in and out of romance, he was my angel.
“shhh darling.” i hushed the hysterical boy in my embrace. “i’m here now yes? i always will be.”
“i love you.” he whispered looking up at me unsurely, his lips curving up into a small smile.
instead of replying, i sealed his lips with my own, letting all our problems fade out into a background of slow jazz music and warm low lighting.
lee sangyeon’s love was dangerous, but he made me feel like no other would.

» PAIRING: tbz lee sangyeon x gn! reader (implied afab reader...?) » TROPE/AU: childhood friends 2 strangers » GENRE: angst!, comfort later (more like a peace of mind after all the angst), little bit of fluff from the flashback » WORD COUNT: 2985 » ESTIMATED READING TIME: ~11 mins » WARNINGS (lmk if i missed anything!): as far as i'm aware, none! navi/masterlist!! 🤍 series introduction 🤍 series masterlist
my first story for my personal healing project!
this story reflects how i personally see sangyeon and i am a bit worried that i made it 'too personal' to the point that you guys won't really understand what's going on 😭😭 but i really hope this isn't the case.
another thing i want to emphasise and add! i'm still not used to writing for gn!reader so please, if you see something that should be changed, tell me straightaway! 😭😭 this is a very important topic and as much as i've proof read it, i am still able to make mistakes!
other than that...let's go!
Tumblr media
“I’m home!”
The house chorused in a series of ‘welcome back’s and variants of ‘omg! I need to tell you something!’. You hug your mum in the kitchen, craning your head forward to her shoulder, observing her working hard on the food that she’s making for the neighbourhood party that is happening across the road from your house in about two hours or so.
You relax in contentment as the smell of your mum’s homemade food fills the whole house and you can’t help but let out a deep sigh to relish the familiarity of it, only being able to get a whiff of the aroma maybe once a week, sometimes unfortunately even less.
“How was work?” Your mum strikes up the conversation when you put your chin on her shoulder, your whole body almost dangling if you could due to the exhaustion, “You look like you’re enjoying it.”
You roll your eyes in response, whining for your sister across the other side of the room, in front of the television to keep it down as you could barely hear the sizzling of the meat on the frying pan, “Well, it’s fine, I guess?”
“Why? Cause at the very least you can see the love of your life?” Your chin detaches from your mother’s comfort, your spine straightening and you let out a gasp, almost scandalous at the words your mum just said, “Hey! You were the one who told me that all your co-workers were teasing you both for that ring on your finger!”
“True.”
A radiant smile pulls up on your lips when you remember the way your partner knelt on one knee after casually asking you “Do you want to have little, mini versions of us walking around someday?” You, being slow, just leisurely answered back with a “Duh! Of course!” and before you knew it, the ring on your left fourth finger solidified the promises between you two to make that, and so much more happen.
Leaning onto the cupboard that stretches from the floor to the top of the ceiling, you play with the continuous silver band and the shiny diamond protruding on your ring finger. Already touching and feeling it so many times, you remember its grooves and design happily, reciting the next spaces of the ring in your head easily. The smile pulls up further on your face and you squeal at the thought of you walking down the aisle soon.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Your sister shouts in obvious annoyance, “You told me to be quiet and now you’re the one being loud!”
Ugh, this little demon.
“And what are you doing when mum is obviously working her ass off in the kitchen?” You observe your very very lazy sister’s surroundings: she rests her whole body on her side to watch the blown-up performance stage of one of the many groups that she likes, fully stretching and sprawling on the whole couch, bags of opened processed foods on the glass coffee table within her reach and her phone somewhere in the messy pile, “Geez, do something productive for once in your life.”
“Hey.” She finally sits up, not bothering to pause the big screen as the cheers of the fans could be heard clearly and from the corner of your eyes, you could see the new ‘ending fairy’ trend in the new generation of K-Pop, zooming from one member to the next, “Being happy is being productive.”
And you couldn’t refute that, knowing that she was absolutely right.
“Hey!” Your mum hollers your attention back to the kitchen behind you, the steam of the soup creating a soft and white fluffy barrier between her somewhat mischievous and guilty grin, “Do you mind helping out with the mango dessert? I don’t think I can finish it in time. I slept in and started preparations late.”
“Sure!” You immediately agree, glad to be spending some time with your mum anyway, “I’ll just quickly wash up and change. I’ll be right there!”
The routine isn’t anything special for a regular neighbourhood party: shower, do some quick skincare, put on light makeup, style your hair appropriately, match it with appropriate attire and off you go to the kitchen with an apron to save your clumsy, silly self.
“What do you need me to make?” Your eyes quickly scan the fruits, ice, beverages and decorative flowers.
“Your sister was craving some fruit punches. I only have mango and passionfruit available.” Your mum sets some more ingredients for you to use on the kitchen island before turning away to face the stove once more, “You’re good at making these things.”
“That’s just an excuse right, mum?” The older woman chuckles, nodding in agreement.
You were about to ask your sister to get an idea of what exactly she wanted but the underaged sibling suddenly squeals and the beginnings of a soft instrumental bounce from the walls of the house before a deep, gentle timbre sings. Your lips twitch when the younger girl turns up the volume at the masked man on the television screen.
“I should add alcohol to this.” You mutter as you start to work on the drink, focusing intently back on your work.
But along the way…
Is a voice from deep within you telling to to listen carefully to the male singer.
When your hand retrieves the unpeeled mango, you stare at it fondly, turning your hand to observe the little marks and imperfections on the skin. Suddenly, the fruit didn’t seem to just be a fruit. The orange-yellow shading reminds you of a boy from your childhood who had the same hoodie as the colour and you remember how he said he would dye his hair to be the same colour when he could one day when he gets older.
Having some sort of background to hair and colouring as your auntie has a salon herself, you commented that it would need a couple of bleaches and an unhealthy hair condition for him to achieve the vibrant colour. You could hear the surprised and stuttering voice in your head, compromising his choice to have a more pastel, lighter look rather than the look that would totally steal the attention of any crowd.
Smiling at the really faint memory, you couldn’t help but sigh as you recalled that you no longer had contact with your primary school best friend. You both separated when you entered different high schools and despite promising to still have daily meetups in the neighbourhood park, you immersed yourself in your studies as he immersed himself further with the things he wanted to do. It was somewhat bitter but you both had the feeling it was coming anyway. Ultimately, you were glad that the friendship didn’t fade away because of some dramatic high school, hormonal drama.
“Lee Sangyeon, you’re such a good singer ugh!”
“W-Wait…” Your fingers quickly retract from the fruit peeler, whipping your head to the television at the familiar first name that your sister cheerfully shouted for.
It’s also when you realise that your sister isn’t watching live television but rather a replay of a video;  I mean, it had to be a replay because your sister obviously knew the name of the singer even when he still had his mask on to conceal his identity.
Unknowingly, your eyes stuck to the screen, the mango slowly rolling out of your grip, your breath hitching as the familiarity of the song starts to take over your whole mind. The first observation you had was that his voice changed drastically. It wasn’t as high pitched and the lower register made your entire system start to relax when your lips unconsciously started moving to the shape of the lyrics to the song.
And there he was.
When the MC announced the name that you knew all too well, every muscle in your body froze except for the ones around your eyes as you couldn’t help but let a tear slip out. The nostalgia hits you and the second observation you had was that his smile never changed. It was still the gentle, wide ones that he always offered you whenever he answered your ridiculous questions or when he would ask you to accompany him to play on the swings instead of the slide. No, he didn’t have that hair colour that he talked about with you around fifteen years ago but his light brown shade showed you that he definitely did use similar hair products to achieve the look.
But that smile.
That smile told you a lot; one of them being that you were sure that Lee Sangyeon was still a very much reliable, positive person.
Even when he introduced himself to the audience, bowing politely as his hair was all messed up due to him taking off his mask, you could tell that even though he was nervous and most probably sweating buckets, he still beats all the allegations from when you were children saying that he looks cold and unfriendly.
His smile and the way his eyes disappear behind his eyelids make the corner of your lips lift as well; even his eyes still hold a smile similar to his lips. It contrasted heavily with his no evident smile, the vertical lines between his eyebrows and how he only made short bursts of eye contact with the audience when he was singing beforehand.
“You should just become a singer! Not an astronaut!”
“Should I?” Sangyeon could barely kick the surface of the sand with his legs, adjusting his posture on the swings to make sure that the swinging didn’t make him fall off to the ground and potentially embarrass himself in front of all the other kids, adults and their pets.
“For sure!” You exclaim, excitingly rattling the metal chains that held your weight in the air. You lean forward a little bit to escape the said chains and observe your friend beside you, “You have such a gentle personality and I could see you becoming the best leader ever! I could see you taking control, making sure that everything will go well and just being really reliable. Or you could go solo but honestly, it would be fun to see you dancing on stage.”
“Oh come on!” The little boy grunts in response to your laughing, recalling the way he was forcibly picked out from the crowd to do a little routine. Needless to say, he ran down the stage to sit back down with you, hiding his reddened face behind his arms above his knees, “Was I really that bad?”
“Nah.” You immediately saw the smile from back, “You looked a bit silly though.”
Sangyeon rolls his eyes away, still with a wide grin on his face as he observes the sun setting behind the trees and he takes notice of the way the warmth from the orange light slowly disappears from the top of his head to his forehead and is now down to just his chin.
“Well, I’ll just have to go with the flow, I guess.” You admire the way that Sangyeon looked at life. At such a young age, you always thought that he was mature and would take the cruel obstacles that life threw at him one step at a time, “It’s simpler that way anyways.”
His positivity definitely grew on you healthily and he would occasionally remind you that even though life is crap, it’s okay to feel like the whole world is against you and to cry once in a while. Your friendship with Sangyeon most definitely strengthened your mental health and amidst the hard times in life, you also believed that good things would happen one by one slowly.
“As they say,” You follow his gaze to the barely visible hemisphere that was once high in the day, “Simple is Sangyeon.”
“But I guess I still want to be greedy and achieve all the things that I want quickly with whatever it is that I’ll pursue.”
The little chuckle that escaped from you made Sangyeon turn his attention back. He then sees the series of nods and your closed smile before hearing your approving hum, “Fair enough, fair enough.”
That was around the end of primary school and was one of the last regular meetups before high school where it became irregular and unsteady.
You were happy though. You still are.
You’re happy that you met Sangyeon even though life took you to your different, diverse paths. Making friends in high school was a big pain in the ass as you had to start all over again from basic introductions and discussions of hobbies. It was so much easier because Sangyeon’s extroverted self carried you to make friends and drag other people into the conversation easily.
“You alright?”
Your feet had a mind of itself when you realised that the television wasn’t on your ten o’clock anymore but more like your twelve. The younger at the couch had her legs tucked in beneath her body, kneeling on the leather sofa with both of her eyebrows raised in suspicion and concern.
“Y-Yeah.” You gesture to the big screen with a chin tilt, “So…which group is this?”
“THE BOYZ! Oh my gosh, this is what I was going to tell you about when you walked into the house! Look! There are eleven members and they’re all so handsome!”
The contrasting volume between the two siblings, as they engaged in their back-to-back conversation, had the older woman from the kitchen sighing at ease. Though time was running out and they needed to finish as soon as possible to avoid being late (or being late at an unmannered time), she could see how her oldest child bent their upper body down and used their elbows to support their weight on the backrest of the couch while her youngest flips through the various video contents of the said group. She also remembers the existence of the now way more mature boy that she once knew personally and she has always been aware that even though the friendship ended peacefully, it was still hard on you as you jumped from group to group to find the right people to spend your time with.
Turning the red line of the stove knob to ‘off’, picking up the steaming pot and placing it on top of the coaster to the barely changed arrangement of ingredients that she sets for the dessert on the kitchen island, she lets out an exhale that blows the fragrant ginger away from her face. She didn’t have the heart to tell any of her children to help her out anymore, not when the younger was enthusiastically teaching the older the names of all the members once again after the latter only recalled around three of the names; the mother thought it was a good effort already on her behalf.
Similar to the stuttering one who points at the still unfamiliar member, she rests her elbows on the cold table stone, one of her palms as a rest for her cheek. The ‘ten more minutes!’ reminder on her phone rang but as soon as the first note blared, the mother let out a quick, surprised sound, lunging to reach her phone across the island, tapping on the ‘silent’ button repeatedly, not wanting to break the chaotic atmosphere of her two kids, “I guess after all these years…”
Finally making the final decision inside her head, she opens the group chat for all the mothers in the neighbourhood to tell them that they won’t be able to make it to the monthly gathering. Amidst the happy squealing and claps when you were able to recite all the members’ names, the front door clicks open to reveal the other parental figure for the two busy children.
“What’s up with those two?” The man amusedly comments at his two precious children, dipping his head down to kiss his wife, “Don’t tell me they tried something for the first time.”
“No, no, no.” Immediately backing up the radiant smiles on both the younger’s faces that pasted on their faces across the room. The couple stays in the hallway, watching the way that you finally sit down on the couch properly next to your sister who shows you yet another stage and a song that you were sure was going to make it to your main playlist, “Let’s just say that there’s a boy who not only makes our oldest the happiest, but now also our youngest.”
“Well,” The dad exhales happily at the good news. One of his hands tucks itself into his pants pocket, the other wrapping around the waist of his lovely wife, “that’s good to hear. Sounds like a decent guy. Who is it?”
“Lee Sangyeon.”
“Damn,” he nods, slightly pouting as he reflects on his own actions, “maybe I should take notes from this guy.”
“Don’t be silly, love. You’re a great dad.” Before kissing another reassuring kiss onto his lips, “Lee Sangyeon…he’s just that type of person, you know?”
“What type?”
“The type that’s capable of making people happy.”
You and your sister finally take notice of the new figure in the house, jumping from your seats to tackle your parents in a hug. More variations of ‘welcome back’s and ‘omg! I need to tell you something!’ spewed out the still-excited youngsters. Your mum calms you both down from your jumping sprees, placing a hand on each of your backs. You make eye contact with your mum and she could see the swirls of adoration, peacefulness and a sort of…relief just swimming freely in your eyes.
The hand on your back runs up and down, your mother understanding how you feel without you even saying it. Once more, she lets her thoughts run and thanks the boy on the screen who was a strong figure in your childhood:
“That’s you. That’s just who you are, Sangyeon.”
