Could Ike or Mist be Branded?
Sorry for the click-bait-ish headline. It's similar to question I saw posed somewhere else, and it's a question I've also been wondering myself for a long time, and here I am to answer that question for myself as best I can.
Spoilers and a jumbled rant are, as normal, hidden beneath the cut.
So just in case the lore for the Tellius world doesn't live in your head rent free as it does mine, I'll start with the basics. You may skip this section if it does.
The Basics
In Tellius, there are two types of people: Beorc, or humans, and laguz, a people who can shift into different animals to fight. Though exceedingly rare, it is possible for beorc and laguz to have a mixed child, who looks like a beorc, but has some special powers given to them by their laguz ancestor. They are called Branded by beorc and parentless by laguz. Branded comes from the fact that they are born with a mark on their body signifying their laguz blood, parentless from the fact that, as far as most people are aware, these mixed children shouldn't exist and are a sin against the goddess Ashera. For simplicity, I will refer to them as Branded.
The Branded trait (i.e. the mark and the powers) seems to be similar to a recessive trait that can hide throughout generations, only appearing every once in a while, even in the child born of two otherwise perfectly beorc parents. It may have been so long since the original laguz parent was involved that no one knows where the Branded mark even came from.
While Ashera doesn't care about the Branded, her three heroes (Altina, Dheginsea, and Soan) and the heron saint (Lehran) decided to make up laws in Ashera's name to deter laguz and beorc from attempting to have children together, because they were afraid that if it became common knowledge that the laguz lost their powers when having a child with a beorc, there would be another war between the laguz and beorc and they had just promised Ashera there would be 1,000 years without war.
Unfortunately, this led to Branded being treated poorly, and hunted down by laguz for existing.
It also didn't stop the beorc and laguz from warring for that 1,000 years.
Other facts, Ashera waged a war against the goddess Yune, and the three heroes and Lehran fought on Ashera's side, sealing Yune within a medallion. In order to avoid destroying Yune, Ashera agreed to sleep for 1,000 years. If they could avoid waking Yune up within the medallion through war for that 1,000 years, Ashera agreed to not destroy Yune. Ashera gifted Lehran with the ability to sing the galdr of release to wake Yune and Ashera early if the world came to true peace before the 1,000 years had passed.
The Theory
So now that we've got the basics covered, why am I even entertaining this question? Ike and Mist are beorc. Their father, Greil was a beorc. The whole point of Ike's journey in both games is that he is the only beorc able to unite the beorc and laguz and bridge the divide of hate between both. Him being Branded would make that "bridging the divide" thing a little too on the nose. I'd get an F in the creative writing classes I took in college for submitting that kind of story.
However, I left out one person in Ike's immediate family: his mother, Elena.
Tumblr media
Now why would I think Elena is maybe Branded? Well. What put this question in my head was Altina being released into Fire Emblem Heroes. Before that, the only image we had of her was this artwork from Radiant Dawn, where she's shrunk down and everything's in a brown scale since it's a flashback sort of image.
Tumblr media
But when I saw Altina's art in Heroes, I was struck by how similar she is to Elena.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I grant you, it's not like Elena looks like Altina reborn. Elena's hair is more blue than purple, while Altina's is definitely more purple. Altina's eyes are a darker blue and Elena's are a lighter blue. And yet they are so similar that it put the question to my mind: Is Elena related to Altina?
Another question you may be wondering at this point, even if Elena is somehow related to Altina, what does that have to do with Ike and Mist being Branded?
Well, Altina married and had children with Lehran, a heron laguz who helped Altina, Dheginsea, and Soan stop Yune. The "Fire Emblem" in Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn is known as Lehran's Medallion, the medallion into which Yune was sealed, and glows with blue flames when the spirit of chaos is strongest. Altina and Lehran had the first Branded child, and Lehran lost all of his abilities: transformation, galdrar, being able to hear the voice of the goddess. Instead, their daughter gained some of Lehran's powers: being able to sing the galdr of release, as well as hearing the voice of the goddess. Altina and Lehran's descendants became known as the apostles for having Lehran's abilities, being able to use the warnings they heard from the goddess to protect the country Altina founded, Begnion.
I do, as did my mother… Generation after generation, each apostle has been blessed to hear the voice of the goddess. We know of impending disasters, how crops will fare… All revelations originally intended for you. [...] All of the apostles have borne this brand. It is our greatest secret. Miasha speaking to Lehran, Radiant Dawn, Chapter 4-F-1, Rebirth
But the thing is, these abilities were only passed onto the Branded descendants. While Sanaki is also a descendant of Altina and Lehran, she is not Branded. Micaiah, Sanaki's older sister, is Branded and thus is the apostle.
The apostle of Begnion shall be the firstborn daughter of each generation in the line of Altina, first empress. She will give voice to the goddess. She will pass judgment, give prophecy, and protect her people and their lands. Sanaki, you have never once heard the voice of the goddess, have you? ... No one ever told you about your older sister, did they? She was the true apostle. She died before you were born, assassinated along with Apostle Misaha by the heron clan. So the senate installed you, the second daughter, as the apostle instead. Lekain speaking to Sanaki, Radiant Dawn, Chapter 4-3, Distortions
Therefore, very few descendants of Altina and Lehran are actually "apostles." If there are only sons, or a second daughter, born within a generation, they will be descendants of Altina and Lehran, but they will never be Branded.
Well that's all fine and dandy, but how in the blazes is this related to Ike and Mist? Well, it's more specifically Mist to start with. Mist and Elena are noted to have unusually pure hearts for beorc. The heron laguz, closely tied to order, are able to touch Lehran's Medallion while it contains Yune and be unaffected by the spirit of chaos. However, anyone else who touches it would be possessed by the spirit of chaos and go mad. Greil touching the medallion is what causes him to slaughter the village he was living in and kill Elena as she tried to take the medallion back from him. This ability of Elena and Mist seems to take even Lehran by surprise when Mist takes the medallion in front of him.
A young beorc began coming to the room to care for Lillia. She had bluish hair and blue eyes...And her heart was unusually pure for a beorc. In time, Lillia and she came to be friends, and shared a mutual trust. Reyson, speaking about Elena, Path of Radiance, Chapter 22, Solo
Mist: Ah! Hey! That's my mother's medallion! No one's supposed to see it! Lehran: No, child! You mustn't touch it! Mist: We can't let it get lost. I'll keep it. Lehran: You… You are unchanged? ... Zelgius: What will you do with the medallion? Lehran: The girl seems safe from its influence. We will leave it with her, for the time being. Ike's Memory, Radiant Dawn, Chapter 4-F-2, Rebirth
In addition, at the end of Part 3 of Radiant Dawn, when the spirit of chaos is so great that Yune is about to be broken from from the medallion, those with heron blood are hit especially hard and have to be evacuated from the battlefield as they are falling unconcious.
Tibarn: Reyson collapsed suddenly. I figured I’d take him to a safe place. Nailah: Rafiel fell unconscious as well. I thought I’d let him rest with Leanne. But then I found that she had collapsed too. Radiant Dawn, Chapter 3-F, From Pain, Awakening
Micaiah doesn't fall unconscious on-screen, but she's shown in the prior chapters to be feeling unwell, collapsing, having a headache, unable to use her Branded abilities for how hard the spirit of chaos is afflicting her. In this chapter, she is barely focused on the battle, hearing a voice speaking to her and appearing to be in distress in every conversation she has on the battlefield. She runs off a little before halfway into the battle and we don't see her again until Sanaki is trying to sing the galdr of release to wake Yune from the medallion.
Which makes sense. Too much chaos makes herons ill, as we're told by Reyson in his supports with Ike and Base Conversation in Path of Radiance.
So it's hard for me to be on a battlefield where the air is thick with negative energy. It's…tiring. Ike and Reyson, C Support, Path of Radiance My body should return to normal once the medallion settles down… Don't worry. My will is still strong. I have to confront Ashnard. I have to discover the truth. Ike and Reyson, A Support, Path of Radiance However, this power is only available to us in a calm and peaceful environment. Here, in this desperate maelstrom of chaotic emotion, it avails me not. Energy here is warped and distorted. Base Conversation: Reyson, Path of Radiance, Chapter 22, Solo
But who else is tripping over themselves and falling unconscious when the seal on the medallion is about to break? Mist.
Mist: Ike… My head… It hurts so much… It’s the medallion… Ike: What do you mean? Mist: The medallion is calling out to me… Please, Ike… Take me to the medallion… Ike: Mist! Talk to me! Wake up, please! Radiant Dawn, Chapter 3-F, From Pain, Awakening
Not only is she falling unconscious, she's hearing Yune's voice. Yune specifically picks Mist to talk to because she's filled with order like the herons, but more able to withstand being in the presence of Yune's chaos than a heron is.
We know of exactly one other person who does not take to chaos well, Ranulf, and he's not mentioned at all in these chapters. We know Ranulf is tied to order because he says it in a few different ways.
The closer we get to the capital, the more the Daein king starts to worry me. Well, I suppose it's more the medallion than the man… At any rate, all this negative energy is making my hair stand up on end. It's hard to focus… Ike and Ranulf, A Support, Path of Radiance
Ranulf: I didn’t mean that I’m losing motivation to save the petrified people. It’s just that, before we started talking about it, I was feeling…complacent. Is it just me? Tibarn: The spirit of order is hanging heavy across the land. When we fight, we get a dose of chaos, which may help us get back in touch with our true selves. If our enemy has also figured that out, it might explain why they’re staying away. Radiant Dawn, Chapter 4-2, A Silent World
The extended script goes into a bit more detail, where Reyson agrees with Ranulf and Tibarn says that those who are more aligned with order will be more calm in the world made still by Ashera. Raw Japanese text is below, but you can also read the translation done by amielleon.
Radiant Dawn, Chapter 4-2, A Silent World, Hard Mode+
And yet, Ranulf doesn't fall unconscious with the herons and Mist. He isn't shown to be made ill from the spirit of Chaos as the herons, Micaiah, and Mist are.
Mist is also shown to hear the chime in Serenes Forest, a sound so faint that only laguz are able to hear it.
Mist: Did you…hear a sound just now? Ike: Huh? No, I didn't. Mist: Really? I guess it was just me then. Lethe: That sound you heard, was it high-pitched, like the chiming of a bell? Mist: Ah! Yes, it was! That's it exactly! Mordecai: I heard it, too. It was very beautiful. Ike: I didn't hear a thing. Lethe: It created only a slight disturbance in the air. It could only be heard by those possessed of extraordinary hearing… So, your sister's hearing is on par with that of the laguz. Mist: Wow! Did you hear that? Neat! Ike: Don't let it go to your head. A sound that beorc can't hear…Hmm… That's interesting. Path of Radiance, Day Breaks, Part 1
So Mist is Branded? Well, not really. I'm not making that argument. However, I am making the argument that, like Elena, she bears some traits of the heron blood she has inherited from Lehran down the line from the non-Branded descendants of Lehran and Altina. Or, I think, that's how she was designed in the early development of the game.
In the Tellius Recollections Vol. 1 Artbook, they released a lot of the early design notes and art that they used when making the games, with ideas that appear in the final game and some that were cut. One such piece of information is a chart on laguz and Branded aging with an introduction by a Begnion noble. Now, in my post on laguz and branded aging, I decided that this chart was a piece of early development information that was more than likely cut out of the wolrd building because it implies that as time goes on, the Branded will be more and more like beorc and less and less like laguz, while in the games, no matter how many generations there are, the effects of the laguz blood never fades when the child has the brand.
You can view a translation of the page done by VincentASM here, but the relevant excerpt is below:
As shown, a union with the dragon tribe will dilute the lifespan to 3 times. In the future, if mixing of blood becomes more wide-spread, we can predict that the lfespans of the Branded will edge closer to the Beorc. Whether a day like that iwll come remains to be seen.
Now, again, while I don't think it's how Branded aging works, I think, in early development, Elena was planned to be some distant relation to Lehran and Altina, but the heron blood is so diluted in her, she is pretty much a normal beorc and only has the "unusual" trait of a heart tied to Order as much as a heron. This being what allows her to hold the medallion and gain Lillia's trust. And Mist inherits this "unusual purity of heart" that Elena had.
So what about Ike? Well, Ike cannot hold the medallion safely, he loves fighting, and so if Elena inherited a "purity of heart" from some distant heron ancestor, Ike certainly did not get it from her. However, Ike is shown to have a few (non-heron) laguz traits.
Mist: Seasick? You're such a bad liar. You never even get regular sick. You're not the type to get seasick! Mist about Ike, Path of Radiance, Chapter 12, A Strange Land
Ranulf: Everyone's doing great. We laguz don't take ill too easily, so it's hard not to be "well." Radiant Dawn, Chapter 1-P, The Great Advance
Lethe: Us beasts have a healthy appetite, of course. On top of that, we have General Skrimir and Ike. …Yeah. I’d be surprised if what’s here lasted past those two, much less a whole pack of laguz. Titania: Tsk, you’re exaggerating! Ike is a beorc. He couldn’t possibly eat as much as someone from the beast tribe. Well, maybe he would. Actually… He most definitely would. Base Conversation: Feast or Famine, Chapter 1-P, The Great Advance
So, yeah, if you squint, we could add this to my teetering Jenga tower of evidence, but, since Ike is shown to love meat and hate fruits, whereas herons can only eat fruits, I admit this evidence is a stretch. The herons are only shown getting ill from the chaos of battle, so I don't know if they also don't get "regular sick."
Of course, Ike is not the first born daughter, like Mist is, so he might not inherit the "special" heron traits from the bloodline, like Elena and Mist have.
My best evidence for Ike being related to Altina comes from the swords Ragnell and Alondite. These are the holy swords that were blessed by Ashera for Altina to use against Yune, Yune mentions both swords "calling" out to Ike in the endgame, that they belong with him.
Yune: The holy sword Alondite… It's the counterpart to your sword, Ragnell. I think it wants you to take it up. Radiant Dawn, Chapter 4-F-2, Rebirth
Yune: Ike, there’s a certain affinity between a weapon and its bearer. Ragnell is clearly ideal for you. You can feel it can’t you? Radiant Dawn, Chapter 4-F-3, Rebirth
Ike taking up Alondite, and thus having both swords, is what breaks the seal on his memories that Lehran put into place to protect Ike from the trauma of having watched his father slaughter the village and kill his mother. Why does Alondite do this? I haven't the foggiest. But anyway, the swords call out to Ike and both want to be wielded by Ike. Both swords were closely tied to Altina, so if Ike is related to Altina it makes more sense that the swords would call out to him, who has inherited her warrior spirit. But, you know, your mileage may vary.
Whether or not that was kept in the final release of the games, I couldn't say. I know Ike is well beloved in the games because he's an apparent nobody, no lordship, not secretly royal, and he fights and gains renown because of his character, although this is immediately debunked by his father previously holding the title of general before Ashnard severed the tie between being nobleborn and being able to be a general, but eh, whatever.
At the end of the day, I think it wouldn't be well received by the fans at large if he turned out to be secretly, albeit distantly, related to Sanaki and Micaiah, and I think the developers knew this going into Radiant Dawn, after seeing how Path of Radiance was received by the fans. I strongly feel that even if this had been their plan from the beginning, they cut it out when making Radiant Dawn to keep Ike as the fans love him: just an average mercenary.
That being said, I kind of like the idea of Ike being related to Altina because Altina and Lehran (and Dheginsea and Soan) made a huge mess of things when they concealed the Branded from the world and falsely proclaimed that laguz and beorc relationships were a sin against the goddess, so I like the idea that all of their descendants (Ike, Soren, Micaiah, and Stefan) are the ones who clear the air and right the wrongs of their ancestors. Ike by becoming the Radiant Hero, Soren for being the strategist that ensures Ike's victory, Micaiah for being the new apostle, and Stefan for making Yune first aware of the terrible way the Branded have been treated. I like the idea that each of the heroes that defeated Yune: Altina, Soan, Dheginsea, and Lehran all have representatives in Ike, Stefan, Soren, and Micaiah that can be brought into that final battle to now help Yune defeat Ashera and set things right (despite how hard they shafted Stefan in RD).
I also like the idea of Soan's descendant, Stefan, teaching Altina's descendant, Ike, and being the one who helps Ike learn Aether.
But if you don't like it, well, it's not canon, and I also totally get why. I like Ike being just a guy. I like that story too. I don't think that story's perfectly executed if that was the developer's intent, but I like it. Everything I have presented here is a teetering Jenga pile of could be evidence that ultimately means nothing, except in my heart, so you don't have to spare it another thought if you don't like the concept.

Why hello there, little friend! Thank you very much for summoning me - here's your question! ~☆
What makes your character excited? Why does this make them excited? What do they do when they feel excited?
I adore this way of asking a question. :D It's so cute. :) Thanks for the ask!
For this one, I choose Selka Kelnaris. I don't have much about her developed, because she's the character I relate to the least, so this is a good chance to develop her character a bit more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Selka is my 32 year old felorian history, anthropology, archeology, and artifact nerd.
She's also the ship's medic. Being a trained Ai Hiri - and one of the best at the elite order's ancient temple - she has medical training, and can use her mental gifts to calm a person, quiet their mind, sooth their nightmares, and allow her to treat them without them experiencing trauma. She's had to use her gift on Yune a few times. He LOATHS the medbay. it triggers PTSD systemic stress reactions, but he refuses to let her dig through his mind to figure out why. He says, "if I have that kind of reaction every time, I'm better off not knowing why. It'll make it worse. Stay outta my head." She never 'Looks' without permission, so she respected his decision - even if she disagreed with it.
She might be a bounty hunter going after the criminals of the galaxy, but she's an ameture historian, archeologist, and cultural/physical anthropologist.
Whenever the old crew of the Horizon (Yune, Marci, Zaf, and herself) would visit a world looking for an artifact to steal and sell find, she would dive into researching the local customs and legends, learning about their history through that information so the crew had the best chance of getting in, finding what they're treasure hunting for, and get out with as little friction as possible.
When given a problem about the origin or history of a person, object, or event, she would go into 'research' mode like the ameture scientist she is.
She would get giddy, talk quickly, and share everything she knows if someone asks her a question about it. Finding something new sets her excitement to the max. She becomes a kid with a new toy. :)
She'll be locked into research for days, sitting on her meditation cushion on the floor of the Horizon's lounge, or in the medbay - which wasn't used often for actual medical reasons, so she took it over as her lab. She converted part of the storage compartment next to it to extend her lab.) The medbay is her territory beyond her cabin.
While she's working, she'll often have music playing in the background - much like Yune will. That's just part of life on the Horizon. It's their home.
She would often forget to eat. Discovering new information about her target subject is the only time she'll turn into a hyper kid on a sugar high.
Beyond that, she's a responsible, calm, rational, confident adult woman with the patience of a saint due to her Ai Hiri training, and discipline over her mental abilities.
She is the perfect person to have in this disaster found family. Not only is she the glue that keeps the family together, but she's the one who focuses on the importance of uncovering their history, and is -basically - the adult. She'd be the 'mom'. Once she finds out what Will and Terra were transformed into, and begins to have suspicions about her best friend, Yune, she dives into finding any information she can about the altaran-humans to help them figure out who they are, and to sate her own curiosity about a once-considered-extinct human race with otherworldly powers.
Tumblr media
Yune won't let her touch his ena crystal, because he knows she'll want to study the hell out of it.
In a future adventure, when they have to locate his crystal's home matrix in the Ephypsan asteroid field in order to save the source inside his crystal, she goes bonkers with research. She wants to take samples home, but he, Will, and Terra remind her repeatedly that ena crystals are sentient. Being an Ai Hiri, she can sense that life source if she focuses, and has to begrudgingly agree.... though that doesn't stop her from wanting to take some home anyway.
When Terra showed an interest in history and healing, Selka went nuts with excitement. She had a small student and pseudo-daughter to teach. :D She enables Terra's interests in this area, along with teaching her how to use a pulse pistol to train her natural marksmanship abilities.
I love my disaster space found family and their mad scientist/bounty hunter/psychic monk mother, your honor. ^_^

Right, so. Just the grande finale/whatever the name of the final route is called to go, and I thought I might ramble a little to get my thoughts in order about Steam Prison (specifically on Switch, so Fin's route is included by default).
Mild spoilers under the "read more". Nothing plot-based, just my personal thoughts about world-building or personality stuff with the LI's/Cyrus.
tl;dr: I liked this game, but the plot and pacing really drags a lot, and I feel like it was trying really hard to not be an otome game, and getting dragged down by the fact that it is, indeed, an otome game.
World Building: Right off, this is my favourite part of the whole game. There was so much room for cool exploration of the differences between the Heights and the Depths that I feel got kind of pushed to one side. I suspect that this is because the otome-ness of the game interfered with really exploring that, but it still had a lot of (ahahaha) depth to it. The fact that the two cultures have deviated written languages was a very interesting point that I felt should've really been explained more, for example. Or why the people in the Depths revere Yune, though he only became a saint after leaving for the Heights. What's up with that? I kind of hope some things may get a bit clearer once I do the final route, but I'm not holding my breath.
Voice Acting: Always top notch. No complaints. Excellent casting choices. Especially impressed with Furukawa Makoto (Adage) and Shingaki Tarasuke (Fin) during their anguished scenes. Also deeply enjoyed Kameyama Yuji (Sachsen) in his very villainous role. I'm not in the camp of wanting a route for him, but I can definitely understand why. They really let him go wild in that role.
Eltcreed Route: I went in thinking he'd be my favourite LI and was wrong for once. He's just kind of weird and inconsistently written. They tried to hint that he's got an iron fist ruling his territory in his route, but it really doesn't come across well (it was better executed in Ulrik's with a few points, but ... still a bit meh). His route did provide me with some of the best one-liners of the game, however, and spawned an in-joke with my partner as a result of some of the dialogue options.
Ulrik Route: Probably the least logical among the LI's in terms of ending up with Cyrus. His plot was the highest stakes (in my opinion) but also kind of dithered out in a few of the endings. It felt like they chose one ending that would be "the ending" for each of the routes, but I really felt it with Ulrik's. Most of his endings (and the Elt ending hidden in his route) didn't really have the same ring of sincerity for me. I did like him as a character, but not as a love interest for Cyrus.
Adage Route: Similar to Ulrik, I felt like his route was a bit illogical but only really had one ending that was up to snuff. It was very satisfying finding more out about the overall plot in his route, and starting to solve the mysterious nature of Cyrus' parents' death, but I again felt like he just wasn't a very good fit for her romantically. A lot of the romance kind of got in the way of other plot and on occasion annoyed me. The pacing and timing of the route also was really bizarre and hard to track at times. However, the intertwining of Fin's story and Ines' behind the scenes work with the HOUNDS was expertly woven in on route-replay. Thumbs up to that. I actually was very pleased to see how that was handled. Similar to Eltcreed, some of the one-liners in this route have resulted in an in-joke with my partner about childbirth and where babies come from.
Ines Route: So his endings were a bit more varied and made sense, but I really hate the final CG for his good ending. It's a personal nitpick, though. Overall, he was kind of my least favourite of the LI's because he was just so ... bland. He almost never committed to anything until the very end of his route, and his brushing off of Sachsen's rampages really kind of bothered me. His route does have some of the most twisted Fin interactions hidden in it, though (oh man, poor Fin).
Yune Route: I wondered how romance with an immortal god-like being would go and didn't expect the direction this route took. Turns out, he's a little bit of a sociopath. Go figure. Playing this route after Ines was a bit refreshing, because he has a similar attitude of apathy to Ines, but at a basically global scale. Most of his endings made sense, though I was very annoyed that his "good" ending puts the majority of the plot and story after the credits with no choices to be made. I get why it was done that way, but man. Annoying.
Fin Route: Poor. Fucking. Fin. I think his is probably the overall best otome route and the one I enjoyed the most, and it's probably due to the fact that he and Cyrus have so much history to build on. It felt more organic than the other romance routes, even though there was less plot and overall development. It really felt like the other routes were trying to be a regular VN and build a story around a really cool world with the romance shoehorned in as an afterthought, while Fin's was pure otome with a bit of the world surrounding them. So it was kind of a nice one to end with, honestly. I was starting to get a bit burnt out on the half-assed love affairs. That said, I do have some beef with Cyrus in this route (I have beef with Cyrus in every route, but especially this one lol).
Impressions of Cyrus: There's good and there's bad. She's sassy, has a strong sense of justice, and takes decisive actions. She's a bit of a feminist and very resilient. But because they wanted to her to also be naive to romance and sex, the writing sometimes goes way too far off track and is completely illogical. There are times where it's funny (watching her learn about childbirth was amusing and fine; watching her learn about affection and romance was heart-warming) and times where I rolled my eyes because it just ruined scenes (eg: she knows what rape is, she knows rape is bad and protects other women from sexual assault, but somehow doesn't know that consensual sex exists???). There are holes in her logic in this area in particular that drove me bonkers, because there was no pattern to what she did and didn't comprehend when it came to relationships other than "love, BAD". Her happy ending with Fin was actually soured somewhat for me because of these misunderstandings.
So would I recommend it? Yeah. I would. And I'm looking forward to the fandisc. But man, it wasn't an easy one to get through. I used the skip function a lot more often during replay than I normally do (I have 100+ hours in a lot of otome games from just re-reading the dialogue to get new endings or missing scenarios, to see how it looks with fresh eyes; I did not do that with this game).
I also followed a guide to get the non-happy endings so I didn't have to spend time floundering about (which I normally enjoy a lot in otome games and VNs).

Thanks for answering my question. But I think I worded it poorly. What I struggle with is that the Nabateans lived with Sothis. But Rhea & co also refer to Sothis overseeing people's lives and afterlife, etc. Do you mean we could reconcile this by assuming Rhea & co relate to Sothis like a medieval person did to their saints? If I don't see Seteth & Flayn as hypocrites, I'm left with big assumptions about Sothis' nature and abilities. What does the game say or imply anything? What do you think?
I'm not the one to ask about dragon lore in any FE, because it's not an area that interests me much, but Rhea earnestly believes that if Sothis can be reincarnated she'll have the power to correct her (Rhea's) mistakes and fix all of Fódlan's problems. The powers of the series's great supernatural beings are always vaguely defined, although a book in the shadow library makes callbacks to Naga (casting down a dark cult that had ruled the land) and actual goddess Yune (causing a great flood) in describing "the False God." More directly, even in her weakened amnesiac state Sothis is powerful enough to rewind time, an ability that in Echoes is ascribed to Mila.
It's safe to say at least that Sothis is considerably more powerful than any of the Nabateans, and they know that and assume she would be strong enough to rule over humans in that way. She did (unintentionally) create Ailell which via folk tradition became the local equivalent of Hell. I wouldn't compare it to how Catholics of any time relate to saints, both because saints are rare enough that not many people would have known one personally while they were alive and because the Nabateans have an explicitly familial connection to Sothis. This doesn't prevent any of them from sleeping with Sothis's incarnation, but - Fire Emblem, you know.
The Nabateans lie about some things, like the true origin of Crests and Relics and their identities as the saints, but the overall impression is that this is not deception born out of malice or hypocrisy but one necessary for their own protection from humans who want to kill them and make magical weapons out of their corpses. It's still a vague and half-baked story element, as FE dragon lore often is, which is why I don't fault AM for dispensing with it almost entirely and focusing on a plot that IS has decades of experience with telling and a character arc that actually works on its own terms...minus the glaringly artificial inclusion of a self-insert, that is.

Steam Prison Spoiler Free Review
i wish i had the brain power to like write an actual like coherent spoiler free review to try and hook people into checking out stream prison but I cannot (i have my spoiler filled thoughts written I just have the fin part empty until I finish his route lol)
Also it’s on sale rn and a new DLC came out which is also on sale :D (oct 15, 2020)
Tumblr media
so here is like the vaguest of attempts in bullet points
Cyrus (the main character, also renameable) isn’t like a ditzy amnesic main character! She has a personality, and she’s strong! She’s a police officer and she’s extremely skilled with a sword. Plus her sword skills are actually put in use (this is extreme shade to enju of nightshade lol).
Plot! Each route has a different plot, making the story interesting to read (sometimes when all the routes have the same plot it gets pretty boring once you get to the last guy)
World building! It’s pretty easy to understand. The Heights is a utopia and The Depths is the wasteland. But as the story continues you learn more about each area that may change your opinion on their simple explanation (I liked how simple and easy to memorize the world building was, since sometimes things can become really complicated and hard to memorize)
Different endings are actually different (in some routes lol). I found some of the “bad” endings better than the “best” endings too.
They also did something almost like the transfer routes in ozmafia, where there’s an ending where cyrus ends up with a different guy than the route she was in (i dont think ends up is the right word... maybe like befriend or teams up?)
The Love Interests!
Tumblr media
Eltcreed Valentine
This guy is the eccentric lady’s man
He seems outwardly kind, but he can be quite cutthroat when he needs to be
He also like the bank owner and the leader of his town?
Tumblr media
Ulrik Ferrie
This is the stubborn, tries to be really cool but is actually big dork type
he’s probably my favourite lol
He’s pretty harsh and he tries to be super mysterious, but deep down he just wants to be accepted but he pushes people away in fear of betrayal
He’s like Eltcreed’s right hand man - he gather’s info for him so like a spy?
Tumblr media
Adage
Adage is the blunt, straight forward man - he says exactly what he means and states exactly what he wants
this leads to a few funny moments, I found his route quite hilarious
also his smile is really cute
Adage is a doctor
Tumblr media
Ines Heinrich Heine
Ines is the serious but considerate guy. But also a big dork - especially around Saint Yune
He is second in command of the HOUNDS, which is like the police for the Depths
Like elctreed, he seems really kind and considerate (and he is) but he is willing to do whatever it takes to stay on HOUNDS good side
Tumblr media
Yune Sekiei
Yune is a saint who’s been alive for over 400 years but looks like he’s 16
Everyone worships him
Yune is quite mischievous behind closed doors, but extremely regal in front of his devotees
Tumblr media
Fin Euclase
HIS ROUTE CAME OUT TODAY
FIN IS SUPER SWEET, and very timid lol
He is Cyrus police officer partner (in the Heights, police are assigned a pair and they work together)
Anyways I’m excited to try his route
If you read this far pls consider checking out the game - its really good! Slight warning though, this game does go into some dark topics, and there are a few graphic scenes but the CGs are not that graphic, just some blood. But something to consider.

Okay, I guess the update thing is due to FEH crashing due to the extra defense slot in AR.  So that’s a little disappointing, no information on the next set of heroes.
On the other hand, I’m...surprised we know this?  The extra slot should only happen with the new mythics, right?  And there are no defense mythics with this new effect.  So does Reginn unlock it?  Regardless, this seems to be a soft confirmation for Dark or Anima as the next Mythic hero.  So time to consider who would fit in Dark or Anima, but is also a Blue unit I guess.
Saint Elimine is a possibility, frankly.  Aureola just got released, and she could easily hold that same tome, and be prepared as an Anima mythic.  She would probably be Light, but let’s be honest, the blessings don’t always make sense (L!Corrin is Wind, Yune is Dark despite repeatedly stating she’s not a dark god, Freyja is Light for some reason?).
It could be Soan or Dheginsea.  We don’t really know what breath or beast type they would be, so they have a lot of freedom and flexibility with that decision.  Blue could fill the spot.
Actually now that I think on it, we don’t really know what Rhea would be.  She could be a Mythic like people guessed.  I’d be upset with blue though.  Again.  Forever.  I have enough blue dragons, and even if she were a mage I’m not hurting for blue tomes.
My great fear is Ashera.  I want her to be a Light mythic.  I’d accept Astra as well.  And I really, really want her to be Colorless, because of the petrification effect of her light magic.  Or at least Green to mirror Yune.  I dunno.  We’ll see.  I also just really don’t want to have to pull on January’s banner.  I don’t particularly love the options she’d be sharing with.
There are no current OCs who could fill that spot, so unless it’s this new witch person we’re looking for, it’s unlikely to be an OC.
Uh...yeah, I’m actually pretty stumped.  It’s definitely blue, unless they pull the “four of each color” thing early and throw us a curveball.  But like.  I dunno.  January seems definitely blue.  It could be colorless, I guess, since Colorless isn’t necessarily a bad spread?  I don’t see Alm and Eir as recent or valued enough to match the importance of Dimitri.  Julia’s not ideal, but you know.
Basically, both options are bad.  I can’t think of many to slot in to either color, but both would be an unending disaster for me.  Eir is a completed merge project, I would have to have to pull around more of her since Mystic Boost sucks.  Alm is a delight though, love me some Null Follow-Up.  And Blue...Julia’s also complete, and Mirror Impact sucks.  Dimitri is fantastic fodder, too, though.  So either way it’s a 2/3 split for good options, and I don’t like that.  I hope the next mythic is someone I don’t care much about.

I feel empty after finishing Steam Prison... I want more of it but I had already readed the available routes and endings :')
Part of it maybe the need of Fin's Route. Like if you counted death flags of all main characters (MC, Eltcreed, Ulrik, Adage, Ines, Yune) its almost the same count of death flags as Fin. Its horrible! So to counter that feelings I played Grand Ending numerous times as if the other routes never existed (I mean I don't want to forget about the story but I need to cope too!) and Fin have never been sent at depths and became a HOUND
Its just satisfying to have the Grand Ending without anyone having romance with the MC. Its too peaceful and I would like to see it in an anime version. Like the narration and the story is great! But I don't think if anyone who see the Grand ending without completing every route would fully enjoy the Grand Ending. Because come to think of it if we don't know about their individual stories from every route its just like putting random characters in the story without knowing their importance (Like what relationship Ferries have to Yune Sekiei, Eltceeed good leadership, how did Adage end up to depths, how Ines is better representative than Sachsen, about how 'Saint' Yune imortality works, why should we hate everyone who needs to be hated, why Sachsen got elected and etc...) But I still want the anime version of this xD it may not be as effective as the game but I would like it to see in full action I think its amazing!

Reiji, Subaru, Yuma, Shuu and Ruki from Diabolik Lovers
No clue if counted - and I’ve only played the demo - Eva and Cho from One Hell of a Week.

That’s as far back as I can remember ever playing otome games. I’m in the middle of finishing Cinderella Phenomenon and Hatoful Boyfriend (the latter just for fun), and I’m also planning on getting Collar x Malice soon. Hopefully I’ll get to enjoy more of what otome games have to offer :D
