Venerable Antonietta Meo

Venerated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007

Antonietta Meo, nicknamed “Nennolina", was born in Rome and attended Catholic schools where she stood out for her charm, joy, and love of the poor. When she was 6 years old her left leg was amputated because of bone cancer, which eventually caused her death. Her life was a witness of sanctity for children who suffer because she knew to offer up her pain in union with Jesus. She wrote hundreds of “love letters” to Jesus before she died, sending Jesus “lots of kisses.” She may be the youngest person on the way to sainthood who is a confessor (not a martyr) ever canonized by the Catholic Church.

Patronage: Ardmore, Ireland, The Dioceses of Waterford and Lisman

Saint Declan was born a prince of the Decius (the ruling class) tribe of Celts. Baptized by St. Colman, he was the first person to bring Christianity to Ireland, before St. Patrick, though only locally. He was the bishop of Ardmore and established a monastery there. His well, known as “the waters of St. Declan”, still has healing properties. St. Patrick and St. David of Wales considered him as a friend. He died “in a narrow place beside the sea” called Declan’s Desert. Local Catholics celebrate his feast day, called his “pattern” on July 24.

Mourning of Bacchus.

This here is more tragic story than Romeo and Juliet. Why are there no movies about them? Sure their relationship might have been completely platonic (and they were rome mates) but the LOVE, the commitment, the tragic end!

Meanwhile the blessed Serge, deeply depressed and heartsick over the loss of Bacchus, wept and cried out, "No longer, brother and fellow soldier, will we chant together, 'Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!'
