A little teaser from the Christmas special "Bingsfos and Santa's sleigh":
He drove inside without knocking and found Odda in the corner, wrapped in a thick duvet, with a scarf and hot water bottles around them. They looked blankly at Bingsfos while they trembled.
"Gee, you look awful! Are you sick?" Bingsfos stopped right in front of the blue locomotive.
"No, I'm just naturally ugly." Odda grunted back and shuddered.
"Don't be silly. Do you have a cold?" Bingsfos pushed his buffer against Odda's. "You do feel a little warm..."
"It's not possible to go outside without getting sick in this cold!" Odda groaned in frustration. "Locomotives should hibernate during the winter and not come out again until the snow is gone!"
"You say that every year..." snorted Bingsfos. "I suppose you don't want to join in pulling Santa's sleigh then?"
"OUTSIDE?! In this weather? I think you're nuts!" Odda exclaimed. "Besides, I don't believe in Santa!"
"Huh? You don't believe in Santa? But then you must come along to Sørumsand and say hello to Mrs. Claus, then you'll see that they exist!" Bingsfos was upset.
"I'm absolutely not going anywhere! I'm not coming out of this shed until it's summer and sunny again!" said Odda just as stubbornly.
Bingsfos pouted and looked morosely at Odda. "If you don't believe in Santa, you won't get any presents in your Christmas stocking!"
Odda sneezed violently, then laughed a little. But there was a little sore tone to the laughter.
"I never get that anyway." they finally said.
"But that's because you don't believe in Santa..." Bingsfos persisted.
"The day I start believing in Santa…" Odda snorted. "... is the day I get Frosty the snowman's nose in my Christmas stocking!"
The blue Levahn locomotive gave off a rattling cough, making Bingsfos back up a little. It was probably best not to get infected now that he was going to help Mrs. Claus...
"Get well soon, Odda." said Bingsfos sympathetically and backed out again. Now there was only one locomotive left to ask...
Bingsfos sighed heavily and realized that there was no way out. He had to ask Setskogen.
Dejected, he headed back to Sørumsand and the carriage hall. Mrs. Clause was already there ready with the sleigh. Høland and Prydz stood nearby waiting, nicely decorated with bells and red ribbons.
"Have you managed to get the last locomotive?" Mrs. Claus asked excitedly.
"I'm working on it..." grunted Bingsfos as he drove past them and over to the big blue door.

Some photos from this sunday.
I had the honor of being Høland’s fireman this sunday, and he was simply a joy. Eager to please as always, he had lift-off on the manometer already before 07:00! And the first train was due at 10:45.
Prydz was also fired up as she had to serve as a back-up in case something would happen to Høland. Usually this is Bingsfos’ job, but he has some problems with his bearings and can’t pull bigger loads, and should be driven as little as possible until he is repaired.
Since Høland was ready early, we took a little inspection tour along the line, clearing the crossings and switches of snow and ice, before we headed back to double head the train with Prydz. Since she had to be fired up anyway, why not have a double header...
Things did NOT go as planned... and it looks bleak for the planned double header on New Years Eve too...
On the second trip of the day, on our way to Fossum, one of her boilertubes burst and water started flowing into the firebox...
Game over, Prydz.
So Høland had to pull her dead weight along with the coaches back to Sørumsand, where we placed her on a siding before we went back to the train to finish the day. The show must go on. Even without any back-up.
Høland pulled it off nicely though, and we had lots of happy passengers this day.
As for poor Prydz, she will probably be out of service for a while now. Her boiler is 72 years old and long over due for replacement. But like most other heritage railways, we lack funding to do anything about it right now. Especially since we recently spent it all on Setskogen’s repairs. Prydz will be back... but we don’t know when. It might take years.
Setskogen on the other hand is having her comeback summer of 2023 if everything goes as planned!
But until then... we only have one functioning engine: Høland. He better not break down before the end of the season...

Urskog-Hølandsbanen is Norway’s oldest railway museum and the only railway in Norway with three working steam locomotives.
The Urskog-Hølandsbanen, was renamed to the Aurskog-Hølandbanen by NSB in March 1947. In local parlance, it was called “Tertitten”, which played on the fact that the line was a so-called tertiary line (tertiærbane) and the local dialect word for the bird great tit “Tertitt”.
The line was a narrow-gauge railway in the Akershus county, from Sørumsand station on Kongsvinger railway to Skulerud station in Aurskog-Høland. The line was in regular use with both goods and passenger transport until 1st July 1960. Today, the 3.2 km of railway is in use as a museum railway with the old private railway name “Urskog-Hølandsbanen” (UHB).

How much water do you guys use per trip?
"That depends on how long the trip is and how hard we have to work... But ONE trip of our line isn't that long, so... not much. We usually do four trips per Sunday Sørumsand - Fossum - Sørumsand. We start out with full water tanks. They carry two thousand liters, there is also 500 liters in our boiler, so 2500 liters in total... and we usually have to refill once during the day, usually one the second or third trip. I guess you can say we're thirsty..."
