in one of your tags you mentioned-
'one of the things that gets chatted about A LOT in teaching is meeting students at their point of need- which ted does NOT do with jamie'
I would love to hear more of your thoughts on this! Both in terms of what that concept entails, and also what you think Jamie's point of need was at the time versus what Ted saw the situation needing
(You have excellent tags btw, don't know if anyone's mentioned that)
I HAVE MANY THOUGHTS ON THIS THAT I LOVE THAT YOU'D LOVE TO HEAR!
(I have more thoughts than I anticipated, this got errr, long. Whoops)
(potentially necessary/relevant background here is I am a high school teacher 👋)
Okie dokie, so, one of the principles of best practice in teaching is the idea I tag-rambled above; meet both the individual students and collective class at their point of need. Essentially this means practising differentiation in teaching and adjusting how content/ideas are communicated to students based on who they are as learners and people. Particularly if a student is performing outside the 'average' (either exceeding or still developing), this means adjusting to their needs by (among other things) curating differentiated resources and adapting delivery style. Differentiation is especially important in an all-abilities classroom, unfortunately public education is perpetually underfunded and overcrowded so everyone's just out here doing their best (the decent people of the world at least). BUT! WHILE I'M ON IT! SPEAKING OF THE THINGS I'VE TAG RAMBLED, the education system's (global) inability to adequately differentiate for students of different-abilities, particularly students with ADHD, ASD and Dyslexia, is perhaps the greatest failing of the whole dang thing and if anyone who ever stumbles across this is neuro-divergent and feels like they were a bad student or couldn't 'keep up' in mainstream education- THAT WAS NOT YOUR FAULT. You don't have to break yourself to 'fit', school is MEANT to bend for you. (Particularly when you're young, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG)
ANYWAY, the fictional football of it all!
We don't see a lot of Ted actually coaching in this show (stick with me). The scenes in which he 'coaches' are typically him and various other coaching staff standing on the sidelines while the team skirmishes or occasionally runs drills, so me saying Ted doesn't differentiate is more based around his patented Ted-talks. NOW, Ted PROBABLY knows the team fairly well as individuals, particularly in season 2 and 3, purely by having spent quite a lot of time with them, despite this the only times we really see him 'adjust' his style with the team are ironically season 1 (examples include conferencing Jamie and Roy in 1x04 For The Children, and allowing/facilitating Nate's speech in 1x07 Make Rebecca Great Again). The moment that always sticks out to me as most significant is when he goes and seeks out Keeley's advice on how to get through to Jamie in 1x02 Biscuits.
Side note: I will be forever obsessed with Keeley jumping straight from 'blowjobs' to one of the four operant conditioning techniques (positive reinforcement) when asked about this. That woman is a very fascinating puzzle of a person.
Ted recognises that his typical perpetual-optimism-style isn't cracking the Jamie-Tartt-nut and seeks out a different opinion. This kind of collaboration and whole-system approach is key in teaching too, either by tapping the knowledge-well of a student's broader school context or the difficult-to-crack student's parents.
SO, having gotten the Jamie-Tartt-cheat-code from Keeley he DOES meet Jamie at his point of need, speaks clearly to him and communicates what he needs from him. AND IT WORKS! Temporarily! During the conversation between the two in Ted's office we see Jamie engage, he even practises self-reflection! Granted it's about his left foot cross, but still! The nut is cracked.
Jamie even maintains the perspective Ted has taught him for about two seconds while talking to Trent, until Jamie's other (definitely not positively-reinforced) behaviours rear up and he reverts to what James others have taught him.
On the other hand.
Multiple times throughout the show we see Jamie be visibly or verbally confused by Ted's communication style. Ted often talks in meandering metaphors that Jamie doesn't seem to be able to follow. We verbally hear him state 'Why doesn't he just say that then, do you know what I mean?' in 2x07 Headspace after Beard has to translate Ted's 'peas and carrots/beefchunks' analogy to 'starters and reserves'. Then there's the infamous 'What the fuck are Denver Broncos?' from 3x09 La Locker Room Aux Folles. The only notable time we really see Jamie 'get' one of these metaphors is the sewer-system-tunnels from 3x01 Smells Like Mean Spirit.
(His understanding of that specific metaphor, along with his use of the magnets to demonstrate total football in 3x07 The Strings That Bind, and a Watsonian-perspective of his near perfect mimicry of movements he saw two years ago when executing the decoy play in 3x12 So Long, Farewell, are actually all examples I use to head-canon Jamie as a primarily visual/physical based learner. For whatever that's worth!)
NOW! Ted's willingness to seek and apply alternate techniques in season 1 when he should know the team as both individuals and a collective the least, coupled with his inability or unwillingness to practise differentiation in later seasons when he DOES KNOW THEM is why I don't think Ted is meeting the team, specifically Jamie at their/his point of need. Any person's ability to differentiate behaviour to meet the needs/requirements/comforts of the individual or group they're talking to is increased the more they know them. (We all do this in life, consciously or subconsciously we typically try and 'match the vibe' of whoever we're communicating with [doubly so for people who're engaging in masking.])
Ted should and does learn more about Jamie as a person and his background as the show progresses. He listens to Jamie vocalise both his internal justifications for his actions and his reflections of those justifications/actions in 1x06 Two Aces, he sees him being explicitly physically abused in 1x10 The Hope That Kills You, he listens to him describe a spiralling mindset in 2x02 Lavender, he sees him being explicitly verbally abused in 2x08 Man City.
Of course, one of the fascinating things about Jamie is how much he learns and grows over the course of the show, and there are instances in which I don't think Ted is recognising that (primarily his dismissal of Jamie in 3x03 4-5-1 and not utilising Jamie's knowledge of total football as a resource from the beginning in 3x07 The Strings That Bind).
Ted understands and has previously applied Jamie responding well to positive reinforcement, yet at multiple times in the series doesn't respond in a way that reflects his perspective being informed by that knowledge. Essentially not practising the appropriate level of care/caution when interacting with/around Jamie.
There's not intervening on Jamie's behalf in 2x03 Do the Right-est Thing or 2x06 The Signal when the team and Roy are targeting or ignoring him respectively. The assumed absence of any follow up to the events of 2x08 Man City, the Zava of it all in season 3, and of course the eternal 'forgiveness' kicker from 3x11 Mom City.
POINT BEING. And to actually answer your inquiry lol, I think Jamie is someone who needs clear communication, ideally bracketed in positive reinforcement based operant conditioning as a learning technique (reward behaviour you want reinforced by offering something desirable [praise in Jamie's case]) and visual/physical aid/references for concepts; as a LEARNER.
AS A PERSON, there's more. Ted can readily infer from all he's heard and seen that Jamie's a victim of child abuse. The long term damage to the adult psyche that abuse during formative years has is astronomical, it literally changes the foundational structures of a person's brain. And yet, again, we never see Ted even acknowledge this. Jamie in 3x11 Mom City, incidentally compares his father to Freddy Krueger, Ted elaborates on the comparison, then Jamie reiterates that Freddy Krueger's 'fucking terrifying'. Ted doesn't reassure Jamie (the requirement of his point of need), he gives him a Ted-talk (and in doing so doesn't differentiate his perspective/communication technique).
As far as what Ted thought the situation needed... search me I've got no idea. I do think Ted projects onto Jamie a hell of a lot. That he gets Jamie's personhood and life experiences all tangled up in the emotions he has about his father's death and his consequent perceived abandonment, his insecurities about his own ability to parent Henry and even in his own inability to clearly communicate with his mother. I do think Ted relies on his own forced optimism to 'get by'. Like how a great white shark dies if it stops swimming, if Ted stops being 'Ted', if he stops swimming, his past and his fears and his feelings will catch up to him and swallow him whole. (For what it's worth, I do think Ted is more unwell than even the show explicitly tells us, much like Jamie experiencing ongoing trauma due to childhood abuse, the effects both short-term and long-term as well as potential causalities of having a parent die by suicide are... grim.)
(Essentially the entire fandom has talked about basically all of this at one point or another, I'm just using slightly different language.)
NOW! These characters are fictional (obviously) and I am judging them based on real-people conventions and the best-principles of my own profession, as well as my background in theoretical psychology (which I think I forgot to mention and is also probably [??] relevant). My Doylist-perspective of Ted and his coaching/communication style is ...kinder, but if I get too sucked into the narrative it results in either brief tag-rambles or... whatever this thing I've just typed is. I think it's been too long since I've written academically, my thoughts have gone circular 🫠
ANYWAY! I hope this made something-approaching sense! Thank you again for asking to hear my thoughts! Always happy to word vomit!
ALSO, thank you for saying my tags are excellent (you are the first and currently only to say so!) - The tags are where I send my thoughts to die (in a 'I must banish them to move on' kind of way rather than a 'I'm strangling them' kind of way) so you saying they're excellent is even MORE flattering than you realise! Makes my brain want to purr 💚🤣

Do you have Anthony Bridgerton fic recs (ideally gen, and ideally h/c)??? 👀
Oh my god DO I! Buckle up.
Don't let it show LemonSquash: The moment after Anthony Bridgerton heroically carries Kate back to the manor after her accident falling off the horse. Where Anthony Bridgerton runs out of the room, but this time Benedict follows him.
The World is Heavy Today by alostsock: When the Bridgertons don’t hear from Anthony for a few days, Benedict is sent to go find him, and is unnerved by what he finds.
Trouble Magnet by Victoria_52745: A collection of oneshots, mostly of the Bridgerton family taking care and comforting Anthony in various occasions just because I love vulnerable Anthony.
Indecent Proposal by coveredinbees (Fitzchivalry1122): Following a duel a few years previously, Anthony Bridgerton has been living a life of constant agony. He has not shown his face in society for years, and even his own family think him bitter and isolated. What he needs, he decides, is a distraction. And when he unwittingly propositions a fiercely independent Kate Sharma, a distraction is what he gets.
The Bridgerton Beneath by maisiec33: When Kate is made to accompany Mary, Edwina, and Lady Danbury on a week-long excursion to Aubrey Hall, she prepares herself for seven days of torment courtesy of the intolerable Viscount.Things quickly change, however, when she realises that perhaps there is more to Anthony Bridgerton than she first anticipated.
Anthony Bridgerton Whumptober 2022 by maisiec33: Our favourite Viscount is not having a good time.
Pieces by alostsock: A collection of mini one-shots centered around Anthony Bridgerton. Will likely be mostly angst/h/c/fluff. Trigger warnings for each chapter are in the chapter notes.
And on by alostsock: This can be considered a canon-divergent tag to 1x07, or you can just assume Anthony got into a random fight while drunk. Either way, this is a bit of the aftermath.
i'll keep your brittle heart warm by lymans: In the spring of 1830, Anthony suddenly falls ill while Kate is expecting their fourth child
Fallen Tree by WaterlilyRose: Anthony is in the drawing room with his siblings when he receives the news from Violet that Kate is awake
headstruck, heartstruck by ninzied: these hunts at aubrey hall never do seem to go quite as planned. based on the prompts: caught in a storm + tending to an injury.
nighttime tales by shewritesall: Anthony Bridgerton has had night terrors since the day he saw his father die, that is not new. What is new, however, is the way that they change shortly after his wedding day.
a thousand cuts by wall_e_nelson: A collection of non-linear one-shots, headcanons, AUs, and missing scenes for Anthony Bridgerton. (this story was written in the year between s1 and s2. the character is based in the little we knew of s1 show!Anthony, pulling the rest of him and the world needed from the books.)

Skewed Priorities
Every time I think the Teen Wolf fandom has run out of ways to surprise me, I get bushwhacked by a take so egregiously WTF that it makes me resolve never to doubt anyone's claims of racism or misogyny in media, no matter how outlandish they sound.
QUOTE: "I think people get hung up on the first season and how Scott seemed a little more interested in Allison then the dangers that Stiles or Derek might have been in"
This person isn't a Scott hater. They're not a BNF or the Asshole Anon. As far as I can tell, they like Scott! They like the show!
It's mystifying.
Scott doesn't ignore Stiles ever. He has scenes with Stiles every single episode. Scott ditched a study date with Allison because an angry Stiles demands that he do something! The only time that Stiles is in physical danger and Scott's not present protecting him is in Wolf's Bane (1x09) when Stiles deliberately kept information from Scott in order to keep Scott away and when Peter kidnaps Stiles from the Winter Formal in Formality (1x11). Scott never discovers that Peter has kidnapped Stiles or bitten Lydia until after the end of the season because he's too busy trying to find Derek.
As for Allison, she is stalked by and Scott is threatened with her death by Peter (and Derek) not less than eight times in the first season: Wolf Moon (1x01), Second Chance at First Line (1x02), Night School (1x07), Co-Captain (1x10), three separate times in Formality (1x11), and Code Breaker (1x12). The first four were before she knew werewolves existed! Doesn't she deserve a little protection, too?
As for Derek, I cannot stand it when the fandom does this bit when they say "Derek is a poor woobie baby and why doesn't Scott see that and follow him around and take care of him! For Hale's sakes, his sister just got killed! His family's dead! He's a wreck. Scott should show him some compassion!" and then turn around and say in the very next breath "as a Hale and a born werewolf, Scott should listen to every single word that comes out of Derek's mouth, never question him, and do whatever he asks, because he's simply better."
I know where part of this comes from: The Tell (1x05).
Scott: What? Stiles: Finally! Have you been getting any of my texts? Scott: Yeah, like all 9 million of them. Stiles: Do you have any idea what's going on? Lydia is totally M.I.A., Jackson looks like he's got a time bomb inserted into his face, another random guy's dead, and you have to do something about it. Scott: Like what? Stiles: Something. Scott: Okay, I'll deal with it later.
Of course, the fandom takes Scott saying "I'll deal with this later" as him refusing to listen to Stiles! But here's the thing -- Stiles doesn't know what to do, either! The show wanted to indicate that Scott and Stiles were out of their depth, with too much they didn't know. But fandom doesn't care, because a character of color didn't snap to attention when a white male character demanded something of him. They took it as saying that Scott wasn't doing what he was supposed to do and spending too much time with Allison, because how dare he go after something he wants when the Smartest White Boy in the World and Lost Werewolf Prince aren't being his focus?
Stiles never NEVER got angry with Scott for being with Allison. He got angry with Scott because his father got hurt (and it wasn't fair to Scott). Derek got angry about Allison, but who the hell was he to determine anything about Scott's life? It's 2024, and the idea that Scott should have been Derek's and Stiles's personal manservant is alive and well.

When is the “Real” Anniversary of Mulder and Scully’s Partnership?
In The X-Files, March 6th marks the anniversary of when Dana Scully became partners with Fox Mulder.
While you can anticipate many commemorative tweets, you might notice a discrepancy when it comes to the year. Is it the 30th or 31st anniversary?
Find out in the following exploration 🔎
[As always, because of Tumblr’s photo limit on posts, this thread looks a lot better on Twitter]
The Pilot episode of "The X-Files" aired on September 10th, 1993 on the FOX Network, but it took a long time to get there.
Chris Carter first conceptualized the idea for the show in March 1992, and he began working on the first draft in September 1992 (Lowry, 16). The FOX Network ordered a script by November 1992 (Lowry, 13). The first draft of the script was submitted in December of that year. Further revisions – from which the shooting script was compiled – were made in March of 1993.
Principal photography took place over fourteen days in March 1993 (Lovece, 47). Post-production work on the episode was finished by May 1993, with the final version of the episode being assembled only three hours before its preview screening for FOX executives (Edwards, 37). With that, "The X-Files" was slated to join the 1993-1994 FOX Network lineup.
While many television shows are flexible with timelines, "The X-Files" tends to generally reflect real-world time. So with most production occurring in 1993, what's the problem?
According to research done by avid fans at Eat the Corn, Chris Carter set the "Pilot" in March 1992 to honor when he first conceived of the idea. A small ode to the birth of "The X-Files."
While a small detail, the 1992 v. 1993 debate has plagued fans every March for decades.
While the timestamps in the "Pilot" indicate 1992, there's a plethora of in-show, direct references to support that it's canon Mulder and Scully started working together in 1993.
In honor of Mulder and Scully, let me present you with the facts so you can make an informed decision
To begin, here is a screenshot from the "Pilot" that indicates 1992. Mulder and Scully met the day before they begin investigating the case, so they were partnered together and first introduced on March 6th.

While "Deep Throat" (1x02) doesn't reference a date, a timestamp in "Squeeze" (1x03) indicates 1993. You can also see/hear references to 1993 in "The Jersey Devil" (1x05), Shadows (1x06), "Ghost in the Machine" (1x07), "Ice" (1x08), "Eve" (1x11), and "Lazarus" (1x15).
Tumblr media
This is a trend "The X-Files" typically follows. The first half of the series is generally set in the fall while the latter half is set in the spring, mirroring the traditional television schedule (barring finale/premiere two-parters and post-production changes in episode order).
Based on "The X-Files"’s tendency to reflect the year a given episode is airing, it can be presumed the "Pilot" is included in that (barring Carter's self-referential Easter egg).
While I recognize the hypocrisy of saying "don't believe this timestamp" by providing evidence of other timestamps, I hope to demonstrate that if you believe it's 1992 solely because it was shown in canon, there is an overwhelming amount of similar evidence to prove the contrary.
Additionally, if they met in 1992, that means there is a whole year of their partnership we never see.
Many of the lines in season one were written to highlight the newness of their relationship and would sound awkward coming from partners of over a year.
In seasons one and two, there aren't many allusions to the "Pilot" or Scully being assigned to The X-Files. However, as I'll demonstrate below, there are several references made in every season for the rest of the show's run that solidify 1993 as the correct date.
Keep in mind that "The X-Files" generally uses the year of the episode's airing as the in-show date, so while many of my examples will only have a Month/Day reference, we can assume from the airing year.

Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man

Airing Date: November 17th, 1996
While watching CSM's history, we see the moments leading up to his appearance in the "Pilot" wherein the 1992 appears on screen once more.
Evidence: 1992 Timestamp
This moment of Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man is the piece of evidence (often the only) that pro-1992 fans use to justify the 1992 date.
It could be said that, while writing his connections to the "Pilot", Glen Morgan rewatched the episode and used 1992 to keep continuity.

It is valid to point out that this one could be discounted being that we know Scully's birthday is in February and they met in March -- meaning that they would've only been together for three of her birthdays.
However, her line is very explicitly "four years I've known you"

Babylon (10x05)

Aired: February 15th, 2016
SCULLY: Nobody but the FBI's Most Unwanted. I've been waiting twenty-three years to say that.
Evidence: Direct reference to the “Pilot.” 1993.
To sum it up, there are 23 episodes (over 1/10th of the series) that reference 1993 as being the year Mulder and Scully met, 4 episodes (technically 3 since it’s a repeated line in Tunguska/Terma) that indicate 1992, 2 that imply 1994, and 1 that I can’t read.
It is worth noting that many television pilots end up looking different than the rest of the show (I mean... we don’t even get the classic X-Files theme in the Pilot, and Scully’s hair isn’t quite the red we’ve all come to know and love). Pilots are the ‘pitch’ in the hopes they’ll be approved for more, and sometimes the network exectutives say “okay, but change xyz,” resulting in actor changes, character alterations, and pivoting directions. One could say the Pilot date shouldn’t be taken at face value for this reason.
Also worth noting, 1992 isn’t treated like an accident. Like many other shows, The X-Files has made alterations to certain details they wanted to change before the DVD releases. One such example is that Gillian Anderson’s wrist tattoo was accidentally left in during a scene that aired, but you can see it has been edited out on subsequent releases because Scully doesn’t have a wrist tattoo. This proves that they want the show to be as accurate as possible when they release it. Since they haven’t changed the 1992, it serves to illustrate that it is likley a meaningful Easter Egg for Chris Carter, and not a true canoncial fact he sticks by seeing as many of the above references to 1993 were made by Chris himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite my 1993 propoganda, I know damn well we will all see a bunch of “Happy 31st Anniversary” posts here in a few days. I’ve been on those X-Files Facebook fanpages enough to know that if you post “Happy 30th Anniversary,” an angry, self-righteous bro will post a screenshot of the timestamp and say “Actually, it was 1992.” The X-Files’ popularity made it a hit with general audiences who see 1992 on screen and take it for what it is, and The X-Files’ appeal to cult fandoms inspired anal-retentive fans like myself to look deeper and find the 1993 written in the margins (over-and-over).
Above all else, I encourage everyone to celebrate it however they want, at the end of the day, I think it’s beautiful that a thirty year old show is still being celebrated by its fans and recognized as an important piece of pop culture and television history.
I will end this thread with one final quote from Scully: “The truth is out there... but so are lies.”

M*A*S*H - Viewguide, S1
Are you interested in the long-running anti-war situation tragicomedy M*A*S*H (1972-1983), this one, but there are simply so many asterisks and so many episodes?
Well I can’t help you with the asterisks, but I can help you maximize your time.
I have started watching this program in between dozing on interesting painkillers after a gum surgery (“Stoned and watching MASH. How very 70s of you.” - my high school English teacher & former Marine captain) (“I think I’m now old enough to ponder the sexiness of Alan Alda” - also my former high school English teacher & Marine captain) (we text)—and I have a crackpot, out-of-order, reduced (like a gravy) viewing diet for you for Season 1. Future seasons on the way.
M*A*S*H - Season 1 Recommended sequence
1x15 ‘Tuttle’ - Television pilots think what they need to do is introduce you to all the characters, but in sitcoms they are wrong: they need to introduce you to the milieu—the said situation. That is where you are being invited to stay for the next however many years of these actors’ lives. Season 1, episode 15 'Tuttle' is a wonderful milieu-introducing episode. And you will still absolutely get an idea of who everyone is, during this mountingly absurd, perfectly contained episode about a character you do not need to know at all: the one & only (& imaginary) Captain Tuttle.
1x09 'Henry, Please Come Home' - Hey, here's another little secret: a storyline where things might be getting rearranged is a terrific way to show what everyone actually values, and will fight to keep. This is why the episode where Colonel Blake leaves is actually really well suited to an introductory episode. Additionally, you get everything from scruffy & disheveled Hawkeye & Trapper, sopping wet in a bathhouse Hawkeye & Trapper, and spiff & span in full uniform Hawkeye & Trapper. Get you men who can do it all.
1x06 ‘Yankee Doodle Doctor’ - In another world this is actually my pilot episode substitution, and you’ll understand why immediately. However, for a first impression it comes on a little strong—in multiple senses of the word, ho ho! My pet theory is that this is the episode that truly created M*A*S*H, with Alan Alda and Wayne Rogers just fully swinging a couple rungs up the Kinsey scale for a lark and then refusing to come back down from there, comedy bits that get broad enough to just skirt too much, and then it all crashing down into an ending that reminds us where they are, and why they're like this.
1x07 ‘Bananas, Crackers, and Nuts’ - Speaking of, let’s now indulge in a cracked showcase for our main man, our guy, Captain Benjamin Franklin 'Hawkeye' Pierce, “MD: manic depressive” (actually a line from 'Tuttle') (Tuttle!)
1x11 ‘Germ Warfare’ - Just a light & solid little episode with Pierce & McIntyre in fine duo form, ambling along an evergreen plot line: how can we bother Frank about it. This time: by literally stealing his blood. They vaant it! (For medicine.)
1x12 'Dear Dad' - I've come back to add this one back in. The structure this originated is just too integral to the M*A*S*H thing. Also the opening of Hawkeye, bundled up, sipping a martini and writing to his father under a mellow horn, is a cherished touchstone of this blog.
1x19 ‘The Longjohn Flap’ - Beautifully imagined antics episode for later in a season, where you can really capitalize on community dynamics. I love an Important Object moving through a large cast. I love watching people be comically cold. I love it!
1x21 ‘Sticky Wicket’ - An historic episode that years later actually led to House, M.D. I have no citation for that I just feel it to be true. It’s important for your show’s multifaceted longevity to also be confronted with Hawkeye’s obsessive, egotistical side—always there with a character like this, particularly a doctor character.
1x20 ‘The Army-Navy Game’ - Sublime. This does that bleak, Catch-22 style black comic military absurdism perfectly. The absolute pop the champagne we did it boys ~finale~ of the first season.
1x23 ‘Ceasefire’ - But also there's this one, that I do find has really lingered with me. There's something a little haunting about it. In short: a rumor takes off that there's going to be a ceasefire, and the only one who doesn't believe it is Trapper. A lot of the power of this episode probably comes from us knowing today that this is only the start of a war that's going to run for a decade. Aw honeys, you are not going home yet...
M*A*S*H is streaming in the U.S. (unconfirmed in other countries) on Hulu. The episodes are about 25 minutes. There is a laugh track. They were forced into one—you’ll notice they got a pass to drop it in the surgery scenes, marked as the dark jokes do not drop off entirely. I have been surprised to find I haven’t been much bothered by it, thought I would be. It often seems to just further underscore the wry surrealism of it all, or something almost theatrical/vaudeville in the comedy. The DVDs reportedly have an optional audio track without the canned laughter, and I am absolutely going to be picking up a season from our retro video rental shop to compare, once I can drive on nothing but ibuprofen. Will report back. As well as on: Season 2
Season 1 • To be continued

JJ feeling cornered and isolating himself in 1x07 vs in 3x04
welcome back to “how many ways can sof talk about one scene”
so i've talked SO MUCH about JJ stealing the money from Barry in 1x07 already (specifically here) but i just wanna rant about it a little bit more in comparison to the first jiara talk in 3x04.
so in 1x07, he steals the money and John B and the rest of the pogues are immediately trying to get him to rethink it, refusing to get into the twinkie with him and calling him out for his "crazy", impulsive shit. JJ tries his best to explain his reasoning, saying that they deserve some kind of reparations for the trauma of being held at gunpoint by Barry and also appealing directly to Pope by reminding him that he took the fall for him for Topper's boat. to me, this all reads as a desperate attempt to get the pogues to see that all that "crazy" stuff that he does is for them, at least in his mind. he's always trying to help them out and do right by them and perform these extravagant acts of service for them to prove that he's worth their love, but he doesn't know how to explain all of that, so he just goes on the defensive when things start going south in the conversation. and when it's clear to JJ that the pogues just don't get it (partially because how in the fuck is he supposed to explain it without also admitting how worthless and undeserving of love he feels), he walks away.
flash forward to 3x04, when JJ is starting to employ some of those same defense mechanisms from the 1x07 pogue fight in this conversation with Kiara. he has these blinders up again and is trying to protect himself by going on the defensive, ranting in fragments about how he has nothing and that Kie could never care about him and that she doesn't understand what it would take to even begin to help him, all of it building up to him finally calling her a kook, which is one of the few times that he actually goes on the offensive. and this is where we start to see the main difference between 1x07 and 3x04.
in 1x07, JJ felt cornered because of a lack of understanding, so he went on the defensive and ultimately isolated himself. but in 3x04, he felt cornered because of a wealth of understanding, so he resorted to the offensive, and once again ultimately ended up isolating himself.
JJ calling Kie a kook is the last ditch effort to get her to play into his self-sabotage. the defensive didn't work, dancing around the issue of her being from a different world didn't work, so now he's just gotta go for the killing blow and hope that she's the one to walk away so he doesn't have to do it first. he's purposefully trying to hit her where it hurts so that she'll blow up right back at him and realize that he's the piece of shit that he believes himself to be. and i think this reaction absolutely comes from Luke (as does the running away and the overall not believing that he's good enough thing, truly every bad trait of jj's can be traced back to that piece of shit i swear).
Luke is so good at fishing for people's insecurities and pushing until he gets a reaction (ie: 1x05 with JJ and 2x08 with Kie), so we can assume that that's where JJ learned this behavior from. of course, he's doing it in 3x04 more as a way to hurt and isolate himself, but let's not pretend like Kie isn't still very much collateral damage in JJ's own self-sabotage here. and of course, since JJ is actually a good human being unlike his father, we can see that he clearly regrets calling her a kook immediately after saying it. important differences there. when JJ is trying to use a trick from Luke cause his own tricks aren't working well enough, he can't stomach it.
and of course, that's only made worse when Kie still refuses to play along. she's not playing into his self-sabotage and giving him the reaction that he's trying to get out of her because she sees right through it all. she's being so gentle and understanding (while also still standing her ground and not letting him get away with calling her a kook btw what an actual icon), and it's so antithetical to everything he's grown up around.
she doesn't take the bait. not even a little bit. because she knows him. and so he runs. just like he did back in 1x07, but for the exact opposite reasoning.
Kie knows him too well, and i think for JJ, that's potentially even more terrifying than the pogues not understanding him enough back in 1x07. hence, taking a page from Luke's book and resorting to the offensive. not just walking away from Kie like he had walked away from the pogues before, but riding away on his bike. riding out to a pier and basically having a panic attack. everything about it is heightened compared to the 1x07 fight.
because being so vulnerable and so incredibly known by Kie, of all people??? his worst nightmare because it's also his greatest wish.

How does El recognize Will in the photo? Yes, I'm still thinking about that. We'll finally see what happened in the UD, and I need an answer to this!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The least interesting explanation (imo): sometimes Brenner made El spy people, and one of them was Will. This would be disappointing lol. Unless the kids were already connected (twins, or Brenner almost took Will, but then chose El) and Brenner wanted to see if she could find him. But I doubt it. I just hope the explanations are more surprising than 'Will was just in the wrong place', 'El recognizes him because Brenner made her find random people in Hawkins', or 'the fake body is just a fake body'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most popular theory doesn't convince me either: El simply sees Will in the woods, before the boys find her.
So, this scared kid, who's running away from the people who just killed Benny, would take the time to concentrate and use her powers to see a boy who's lost in another dimension/plane of existence?
Before the boys find her, they hear someone screaming, and I think that was Will, but even if she could see him...
Tumblr media
Why would she try to find him?
Also, I don't know if it makes sense that El recognizes Will in the photo because she saw him in the woods. Because, if that night is really the first time she sees him, then how can she find someone she's never seen before? They made it clear that she needs to concentrate AND she needs a photo of the person she has to find.
So, how could've she done that? How could've she done that in a moment like that? And why?
I can think of a few explanations:
1) There's a time loop, so this has already happened before, and El recognizes Will, like Mike seems to know that a plan will work, or that Will is alive, but can't explain why.
2) El and Will are twins that were separated when they were younger. And if tears in time and space were involved (my theory here) maybe El vaguely remembers him and/or can feel their connection, but only when Will is in the UD, or is directly connected to it, like when he's possessed in S2. Because of the nature of the UD, whatever it is. And because they're connected, despite different timelines of a time loop, or MKUltra mind control experiments. I'm not sure why El can't find him and Barb in 1x07. Maybe she tries to find Barb first, but it's hard because Barb is dead? Again, all this makes it hard to believe that she just saw Will in the woods, while she was running away from Brenner. But IF that's what happened, I think that means that they really share ''a common bond that is not of this world'.
This mystery intrigues me so much!
Tumblr media
Timeloop, mind control, twins, swapping places. We'll see! I just hope this is not like in Fringe, a Henry/Henrietta situation (here) Basically, both Will and El would be Joyce and Hopper's kid, but in different timelines.

This article was a very interesting read. Anyone else spiraling and wondering in which episodes or moments in season 1 and 2 the writers’ minds went straight to… and Tim And Lucy kiss?
To kill time, if anyone wants to participate and offer their thoughts or ideas, please feel free to comment here, reblog, or create your own posts. You can tag me it you wish.
These may require some more thought and analysis, but here are some that come to mind for me:
Season 1: This is so hard, because there are so many tension filled scenes, but Tim and Lucy were just getting to know each other, Lucy was getting over her situationship with Nolan, and Season 1 Tim would NEVER. I couldn’t really think of a moment or scene that could’ve led straight to a kiss, but maybe the episode as a whole:
1x07 (Lucy confronts Tim outside of Isabel’s). I know, definitely too soon, but that tension and angst between them in that moment… GAH 🤤. You can’t convince me there wasnt a shift.
1x11 (Lucy gets stuck with a used needle; Thank you! For What? Doing my job?). If Lucy was as bold and confident then as she was in episodes 4x22 and 5x01, she would have sought comfort from Tim by kissing him.
1x14 (Plain Clothes Day)- The banter, Tim in plain clothes 😍, Tim’s discreet protection, loyalty and trust. I wouldn’t have blamed Lucy. I probably would have skipped her in line.
1x18 (Chenford paintball date)- their first unofficial date. A trophy kiss for their Team winning.
1x20 (Tim gets infected with deadly virus)- nothing like a NDE (Near Death Experience; any OA fans out there?), and fear of death, to put things in perspective. Their mutual comfort was chef’s kiss. The closed door being a literal barrier between them. Their last looks at each other, like no one else was in the room (a callback for episodes 5x03-5x04). I could see them running to each other embracing and kissing, a la Sydney and Vaughn (Alias).
Season 2: Oh this one was definitely much more easy. There are so many. This post is getting too long, so I’ll just name 6. I can do a part 2, for second half of the season
2x01 (Lucy confronts Tim about his mistreatment of her so far along; suicide ideation) - Lucy is at her best when she is assertive and stands her ground (🔥) -I could see a Tim apology that leads to a confession and 😘
2x02-(Lucy records audiobook for Tim): the time and thought Lucy put in, on top of the 8-12hr work shifts. That alone warranted a kiss of gratitude. Bonus: Tim was breathing, sleeping, eating, showering, exercising, and working with Lucy’s voice in his head, 24hrs a day. Some say he still listens to the audiobook, you know as a refresher course to being Sergeant 👀
2x03: (betting Lucy couldn’t find a partner for Tim; Lucy’s short sleeves victory): The flirting and invasion of each other’s personal space (boundaries non existent). 📢GET A ROOM📢
2x06 (missile crisis, end of the world): they chose to spend their last moments on earth with each other. Let’s end it with a kiss.
2x08 (Tim wouldn’t have gotten that stupid plaque if Lucy didn’t have his back; Thank you! For What? Doing my job? Part 2): She saved his picture on her Lock Screen! The first thing she sees when she goes to unlock her phone. They breathe each other’s air on that bench. Tim leaned in to her, while drinking his beer. Just kiss her!
2x10 (Introduction of Rosalind Dyer; Lucy meets acolyte Caleb): if Tim had offered to take Lucy out for that drink with another human, the sequence of events that followed never would have occurred, and the night would have ended with a kiss.
2x11 (Lucy’s Rebirth/ Reawakening )- including this because technically there was a kiss. A kiss of life. I could also see their hospital scene ending with a kiss if they weren’t interrupted and talked a little more.
2x12 (Tim keeps tabs on Lucy and gives Lucy her ring back): Both scenes had so many unspoken feelings/ unresolved, good tension. I can imagine if they hugged, it would have ended with 2 kisses.
Bonus: I won’t elaborate, that is unless you are not over this post and care to know more
Season 3:
3x06 (Lucy goes undercover as Nova, the first time)
3x09 (Lucy “fake” feelings confession, and Tim, heart eyes 😍, will miss riding with Lucy)
3x14 (Lucy undercover as Nova Part 2; Tim asks Lucy to Save him a Dance)
Season 4: Before 4x22
4x01: (Their first on screen HUG)
4x07: (first undercover together (please correct me if I’m wrong); Lucy 🎤 Tim up with wandering eyes, all the way down and up)
4x09 (Tim’s day of validation/ reflection/ retribution/ and Lucy’s Hug of Life)
4x12 (Lucy and Tim’s Date with 3rd and 4th wheel, Chrispy and Ashy; Personal Space, into the VOID you go)
4x18 (The collection of a debt that was owed… THE DANCE)
Season 5: Manifesting First REAL Kiss:
5x08 (Lucy and Tim riding together again for the first time, after a long hiatus, pun intended)

i think one of the reasons people aren’t super interested in exploring the implications of louis being a pimp is because the show isn’t. not to pull a “as a former (brothel based) swer” card for a tv show about edwardian vampires but iwtv has a lot of very interesting thoughtful things to say about many many things and sex work is not one of them. real lazy trope-y red light district funny-madame (bricktop) and disposable girl with a heart of gold (lily) historical fiction red light district wenches with a lick of liberal choice ‘empowerment and business!’ because that’s what the well meaning lib zeitgeist is on SW currently and none of the implications or dynamics of exploitation are explored beyond louis’ confessional in ep1. louis “increasing the girl’s cut” ! ridiculous. love the show but don’t think this is something it’s thought about in any depth and viewers are matching that tone
i feel like im answering the same asks on this issue cuz somebody def did say dis 2 me b4 n i did reply i agree w/ u n ill elaborate bc u r a real person w these experiences. what u have to say is most important here n i respect u for even behind anon in telling me how that was sum u lived thru. id like u to recall what we have seen in the flashbacks for that particular section of the show is so far primarily told thru louis’s pov. a character who possibly had to lie to himself n reduce lily to just a disposable martyr w a heart of gold + brick as just the funny tropey madame to rationalize what he was actually doing here. n even then it couldnt stop him from spiraling off into a drunk confession to the paster about how he takes girls from homes + lies to them saying he’ll do them good but exploits them so. louis himself, even drunk n half out his mind in the 1910s, is willing to account this as one of his vices, his evils, so i dont think the show wants the viewers to give him a pass. its only rly a matter of concern in those first 3 eps bc after that, louis loses all his enterprises. the modern day situation in dubai w/ the blood farm + daniel’s crude comment in 1x07 about louis still being the pimp paying hoes to talk to him does suggest to me at least the showrunners r not falling in line w this line of thinking in telling louis’s story the way u think they do. my main thing w the pimp shit is moreso ‘why r ppl bitching at the show for tryna make louis a good guy when hes literally introduced to us as a pimp? why is that a line of criticism. do real ppl see nothing wrong w pimping?’ . i dont think the show needs to be like rgu black rose pointing symbols ‘this is bad!’ every second for viewers to understand that louis ‘increasing the girls a cut’ isnt bc hes mother mary oss. theyre expecting viewers to come in w/ a certain level of maturity + understanding of the real world to watch these batshit fictional characters. i hope im not sounding like im running apologetics for showrunners here

Do I?
My WIndy submission for Walkerverse Hiatus Creations
Week 2- Favorite Ship
Tumblr media
If you've been following my blog at all since Walker: Independence aired, you should know that Hoyt/Lucia is my ride or die for this show. I love both of these darlings and I think they make an excellent pairing despite Hoyt's missteps in their relationship. In 1x07, it looked like Hoyt was going to be making an effort to be more stable and supportive of Lucia and her mother, and I hope that holds true for the rest of this season.
In the meantime, I've written a little drabble. It's sort of missing scene, sort of wishlist. Enjoy!
Title: Do I?
Summary: Following Francis Reyes' death, Hoyt has a question for Lucia.
“Will you marry me?”
Lucia froze, hands hovering over the sudsy water as her brain tried to process what her ears had just heard. It couldn’t be. Hoyt wasn’t that kind of man, as much as she might have wanted him to be. There was no way he’d just propose like that…. Would he? “I…. What?”
“I haven’t talked to your Mom yet because I wanted to talk it over with you first,” he said, walking over and resting his hands on her waist. He leaned in and rested his chin on her shoulder, his lips brushing her cheek as he continued. “I wanted to make sure you knew I wasn’t just asking you because of everything that happened. I mean, that’s all related to the timing of it but I really do want this. I want to marry you. I want to be your husband. I want to spend the rest of my life taking care of you. I want you to know you can trust me to be here for you. I want to have kids with you and be the father I never had. I want this with you more than anything else in the world. So: will you marry me?”
“Hoyt…” Lucia wasn’t sure how to respond. She’d wanted to hear him ask her that for so long…. But was this really the way she wanted it to happen? Even if Hoyt said it wasn’t just because of the situation her family was in, she knew he would never have proposed otherwise. And as much as she might have wanted to hear it before, did she really want to accept it now?
Or did she even have a choice? She knew Papa left the land to her and her mother but it’s not like they could run the ranch alone. There were horses and cattle to care for, fences to mend, hands to pay, not to mention upkeep on the house. It was a job for more than two people, especially when they were grieving. Having someone like Hoyt around would be a big help, especially when it came to the business side of things.
And maybe she really did want this. For all of Hoyt’s flaws, she’d never loved anyone other than him. Calian was nice, as were many other ranch bos, but Hoyt had always had a way of making her feel alive, like she could do anything, like she didn’t just have to bend to her parents’ will. He had a fire in him, a wild spirit like a horse that not even her father could tame. That was what made him so special to her. But would it be right to tie him down like this?
“I don’t need an answer right now,” he said gently. “I know there’s a lot going on. But I want to be here for you, to help you and your mama out. I just want you to know my help isn’t a temporary thing. I’m in this for the long haul, however you’ll have me.”
Lucia sighed and turned around in Hoyt’s arms, settling her hands on his shoulders. She needed to say something but she didn’t know how to put all her stampeding thoughts into coherent statements. “Hoyt… I… I don’t know. I want….” She sighed and laid her head against his chest.
“I know. I know.” Hoyt wrapped her in a hug, one hand coming up to stroke her hair. “Just think about it. And whatever your answer is, I’m not going anywhere.”
Lucia melted against him, taking the comfort while she still had the chance. There was so much to do still. There was a funeral to arrange. She needed to contact their family outside of Independence. She needed to settle payments for the ranch hands. She needed to check the ranch inventory. She needed to check on her mother. They needed to decide what to do with Papa’s things. But all those tasks, important as they were, seemed small and distant in Hoyt’s arms. If only she could stay there forever…..

Jess Watches // Tues 19 Dec // Day 88 Synopses & Favourite Scenes & Poll
Orphan Black (rw with mum) 5x01 The Few Who Dare
Desperate to get off the island and reunite with her family, a wounded Sarah journeys into the island's interior, only to discover a mysterious village - the beating heart of the Neolution agenda.
Sarah continuing her no good, very bad day. Poor lass. Impressive stamina though; How many bird calls do Helena and Donnie have for him to not be sure which one it is?; I am not strong enough for Cophine being so tender with each other. I melt every time; I very much appreciate that Rachel still needing a mobility aid was not shown as a sign of weakness.
Workin' Moms (with mum) 1x11 Bye Bye Kate
Kate and Anne team up. Jenny finds herself. Frankie deals with the realities of her new situation.
Anne panicking after bonding with her daughter. Just how messed up is the relationship with her parents that she is not used to being shown genuine affection and cannot handle it. I hope she keeps trying with her daughther and having all those shared moments she never got to have.
What We Do in the Shadows 5x06 Urgent Care
When Guillermo is injured, Nadja takes him to Urgent Care. Colin has trouble feeding.
Nadia is a crazy bitch. Lazlo is a horny bitch. Colin is a little boring bitch. Nandor is the queen bitch. But what kind of bitch is Guillermo? Is there a fandom consensus?
The Dragon Prince 5x06 Bait and Switch
In search of seaworthy transportation, Rayla leads the way to an unsavory port town run by a cunning elf. Claudia takes a stand.
I saw a gifset with the glow toad baitlings before I watched this so I could guess what was in the chest. But they were still very cute! And Ezran calling Bait his friend and being so protective ;') [side note: Would anyone rec Sea of Thieves?]
A Murder at the End of the World 1x07 Retreat (Season Finale)
The remaining guests gather and discover the killer among them.
The connections we make with other people will always be the worthier path to saving humanity, proven this episode by Darby and Lee. It's also why the Darby and Bill scenes were the most emotionally satisfying. That they helped save each other even after his death. (One question I have is would Ray not have the best fire-suppression system money can buy or do they not work that quickly?)

while most - if not all - interactions are set post syzygy canon for the ease of rping. i'm placing the opla interactions around the 50% mark of syzygy. the first part of the story has already happened. the second part? it's happening as we speak. which means she is looking for a blade called the nandaki aka the source of joy to defeat svarbhanu.
without further ado, let's get into the opla of it all!
Tumblr media
there are whispers, of course, about this weird girl, this weird woman, with her weird clothes and her weird way of speaking. most people are used to weird and quirky, though, so no one pays that - or her - any mind when she weaves in and out of the crowds.
(though there are people who think she has something to do with the heavenly yaksha aka doflamingo, because she, too, wields strings and threads despite not having consumed the string string fruit.)
the romance dawn trio meets her properly at the bar in 1x01. though to them, she's just a person who makes the little girl laugh. just someone who eyes zoro and his swords and who eyes nami, too, because nami is hot. she has clocked luffy as well (because how can you not?) and koby too. a marine hits on her and she pretends and insists she doesn't speak english/the common tongue while blatantly ignoring that she did just that zero point five seconds ago to the barkeep.
it is clear she has been through a lot; it is clear she is running from something. from someone.
she drinks something non-alcoholic because while she does love a good cocktail, she wants to keep her head clear if she needs to fight. the bar brawl scene happens and udy is activated. she is entranced and enchanted by the way zoro moves, by the way he fights, by his blades. everything about zoro is gorgeous and dangerous and beautiful, though when she hears his monniker of pirate hunter, she thinks twice. thrice, even.
udyati is wholly absent in 1x02 but bits and pieces of her story unravel after the romance dawn trio meet vena zaman (santhosh sreeram), omisha kaushal (ashley ganger) and ayush dahiya (josh heuston) after the circus fiasco: udyati was once kalindi zaman's puppet for years. made to do things she didn't want to. kalindi (aishwarya rai-bacchan) is long gone now, however.
in 1x03 and 1x04, udyati is also absent from the main plot but there are some scenes interspersed with the main plot. it becomes clear that udyati has taken a vachan - a verbal vow with physical consequences for mind, body and soul if not followed through and fulfilled. the thing is, though, she can't remember exactly what it is that she promised to the mahavidyas aka the great wisdoms.
1x05 sees udyati make her way to baratie, exhausted. the chef - sanji - finds her curled up in a booth in the corner and feeds her. she genuinely thinks he's kind and she also genuinely thinks he's hot. udyati has the currency to pay for the meal but it's not berry's, further cementing the fact that she's not of this world. before she can pay, though, mihawk appears and he and zoro get into an intense swordfight.
in 1x06, udyati debates the merits of staying but flees when no one's looking; she feels bad about doing this, however. (usopp probably sees her go, though. she also had at least one conversation at the bar with him in the previous episode.)
during 1x07 she makes her way to conomi island because she still feels bad for skipping out and part of her is just drawn to the straw-hat pirate crew. she arrives right when arlong starts attacking coco village.
and in 1x08 udyati helps fight off the fish-men together with sanji and zoro and usopp while luffy fights garp. after their victory, udyati apologizes to sanji for skipping out without paying for the meal. udyati tells them the truth and tells her she's from elsewhere. then, she says goodbye to the strawhats before the marines arrive.
post opla canon, udyati will pop up in loguetown where she is chased by vena and his colleagues who are still intent on extracting the information they feel they are owed.
the scene goes like this: in loguetown, we see udyati wander around. doing a bit of window shopping. she's still looking for a very specific blade called the nandaki which is commonly known as the source of joy. at some point, vena and omisha and ayush spot her and they give chase. udyati runs but loguetown is a busy place so she bumps into quite a few people. one of which is a lady who wants to buy a dress; the lady holds up two. one lavender, one green. udyati rushes past with a rushed apology and yells at her to get the lavender one as that one brings out her eyes. vena and his colleagues unintentionally end up chasing udyati into the arms of the straw-hat pirates once again and a fight ensues.
