Hello there! Getting Started™️in tumblr rp has two parts, I think. making the actual blog, and networking (while Doing Things.)

Your blog itself probably needs a rules page, this can be anything you want to say or express- some people's rules are specific, some are just a few sentences. Establishing some boundaries or guidelines can be pretty important! But! it's entirely up to you, it gives a first impression to others on you as the writer. People mostly hesitate or have anxiety about accidentally upsetting others, so having something there helps! Even if it's just saying you're pretty chill.

Something else helpful is a muse page- people want to know what kind of character that you are writing! For some they will link to a wiki page, and for some they write out a whole bio for their headcanons- For example if you looked in my Volo's bio, you'd see that he's 32, cisgender, albino, and can see through fog. all headcanon stuff that might not appear in every reply i do! For OCs especially there can be a history section detailing their life and who they are!

The other major half is networking. Following RP blogs, making a promo (which you can make visible in tags;; blahblahfandom rp, multifandom rp, crossover rp, etc.) when you find a blog you are interested in, you can reach out! through ims or asks as well. (If your blog is curated enough and has its own dash/account, your sidebar may of course recommend rp blogs! that's about the only algorithm involved. the rest's work. sideblogs notoriously have trouble because they can't Follow people.) Like, I figure a lot of personal blogs find my posts/blog through tumblr's search function- which i'm still not used to because it's the new default, rather than going into the Actual #tag.

a subset of networking is Doing Stuff. Making headcanon posts, in character posts, open starters, and threading with other people will show off your writing enough for people to notice. Some people turn their nose away if a blog 'only' contains 'too much' RP memes, vent posts, or just doesn't have what they're looking for. While it's not a requirement, it may be helpful to make sure you have examples up to see. This part kind of really never ends imo, networking and doing stuff, but it's pretty essential to getting noticed. But like any facet of the internet or world, there's always someone who wants to talk to you! And would love to hear what you have to say! I'm sure that's something that even seasoned rpers might need to hear, everyone gets discouraged sometimes. It only takes a few people getting going to boost you along tho, so! Try to appreciate people! Y'know, socializing and all that, haha.

As far as some etiquette goes, try not carelessly spam-like or reblog. Since the person is writing a story thread, they use their activity to keep track. 'hmmm i wonder if someone replied today?' i ask! i look in my notes! somebody liked this somebody liked this somebody liked this somebody liked this

oh no! where is my post? it can be a little frustrating, so try to keep likes to real time or so, it's much more manageable. People do enjoy likes and feedback, but the first major reason that people block personals is to avoid this kind of thing. In my opinion, it probably doesn't help that it's a wordless interaction, but it depends! If you're not overdoing it, it's delightful, too!

Replies are much more free game imo, it's words as feedback and a bit more enjoyable. (I'll admit a reply on a pinned post is...a first for but hey! this works!)

Asks are enjoyed and adored. Literally as long as it isn't hate, any tumblr user likes getting asks, but RPers are ravenous, lmao. Some may get overwhelmed by their own workload and have to delete em, but socially speaking people love talking about their muses! Or how they as a mun write!

The second reason people block personals is discourse. I'd say the biggest cultural difference, if you are stepping into rp, is to please learn to share. Especially with the onset of Search showing things even mentioning character names. (some people even cen.sor their muse's name to avoid this.) You've probably seen mockey of kin discourse 'no doubles' and etc. Basically, don't be an ass about headcanons and try to respect people's portrayals. RPers would rather write, so many will not deal with the bullshit and their blog is not for arguing. Trust me that when anons or whoever interject in order to be a dick, you become the butt of the joke for that blog's whole audience. Many people love to write threads with duplicates! But even those whose rules say no duplicates as far as interactions go know that it's not nice to insult people and stay in their lane. Be Kind! Ask questions! If you'd like to share a headcanon of your own, the blog owner might like to see it, just don't be pushy and you're good! They might even have their own headcanon even if they disagree with yours and may share that! Everyone's writing is unique and that's the beauty of it! I've personally even had some random personal reply trying to shut down my headcanon/simping in a belittling way, which....i didn't fucking ask. let me have my fun!!! Sooo yea read the room! Have fun!

hopefully this isn't too much of a ramble but the first two sentences I said are the short and sweet answer :')

Okay so I'm noticing that a lot of beginner tamers are sourcing their first digitama from breeders and not like, partnering up with an already hatched digimon. And that's okay! If you're in a situation where you need a specific type of companion breeders might be your best bet; but finding one that actually operates within good ethical boundaries is hard. So here's some tips from a long time tamer for finding your new buddy!

1. Use your digivice of choice (docker, linker, pendulum, etc etc) to locate an area full of young, low level digimon. Newly hatched digimon (we're talking stages I to III here) tend to group up to give themselves the best chance at survival. It's not uncommon to see some Stage IV/Champion digimon protecting the little ones as well.

2. Introduce yourself to the group! Not all digimon want to be partnered with humans, but most do! Be honest about your intentions and what kind of partner you're looking for. Are you looking for a service digimon? A life long partner or one who's free to come and go as they please? Know what you want going in, even newly hatched digimon can get a read on your intentions pretty quickly and uncertainty could drive them away.

3. Spend some time interacting with the group! Bring some snacks to share or simple toys like a ball to kick around. Whoever is in charge is more likely to warm up to you if you show that you're willing to actually invest time into others.

4. If you don't make a connection immediately, don't sweat it! You can always come back another day or find another group with digimon potentially more well suited to what you're looking for in a partner. While it is generally ill-advised to try and partner with Stage IV and above digimon, some people just don't mesh with the little ones and that's okay too. Don't be afraid to keep trying until you find the right partner for you!

So, I want to do something a bit different — Hi, my name is Xera (25/She/They/EST), and I’m looking to get into 1x1 Roleplaying (preferably over Discord & Servers); I prefer to write feminine/fem muses, but very open to write masculine/masc muses, and I’m open to all ships (M/F // F/F // M/M // M/NB // F/NB // etc). Majority of the muses I write are typically BIPOC, but I’m flexible, as I have a whole stockpile of old muses I’m down to write.

tl;dr if you wanna do an alternate interpretation of a d&d god (and llolth??? being a sad misunderstood and distant power who didn't want any murdering done in her name????? and Personally treats a *male* cleric well???? is Definitely an alternate interpretation) then...make your own setting and write or DM for it?? instead of being mad that other people would share lore with you bc what you've come up with directly contradicts the canon that everyone else is going by???

TK wasn’t even starting till tomorrow, he wasn’t supposed to be anywhere near a fire. Bad luck? Fate? Wasn’t that just his life lately? Whatever it was, the place was getting hotter and the smoke thicker but he could hear little voices calling out. Grabbing the light jacket slung over a desk chair and an uncapped water bottle left in haste, he dumped the contents to soak the fabric before pressing it over his mouth. “Call out to me.”  Eyes squinted, stinging from the smoke as he kept low and moving forward until he came up to a door, wet jacket used to open up the handle before he was met with two kids hiding. Okay. Bad luck or not, he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. “Come on, don’t breathe in the smoke, stay low,” he said muffled through the jacket before he passed it over to the younger of the two girls and quickly gestured and instructed her to hold it over her mouth. 

Time to get them downstairs and outside before this place got any worse. Coughing, TK took each girls hand and started walking them back out the hallway. Little feet didn’t take them quick enough, especially when the flames that violently danced up the walls had the little girls scared and trying to shy away. “Alright. We have to turn around it’s obstructed up ahead.” Coughing harshly, smoke and ash sticking in his throat, TK dipped down and pulled the older girl into a piggy back before he scooped the other into his arms with instructions to hold on tight to him and cover their mouths before he turned to hurry back down the way they’d come. There had to be another stair well. He could hear the roaring sirens outside, a sound of relief and familiarity but it didn’t take long to burn alive or succumb to the smoke. “It’s gonna be okay -- It’s gonna be okay.”

Chase's back ached.

Not as it ached with the ghost of his past — a reminder of his sin. Not as it ached from countless sleepless nights spent avoiding unbearable silence, the dark in-between spaces stretching between his routines. No. It ached with indescribable pain.

The fallen one was kneeled before an empty altar at the church, hunched over in an attempt to keep his hands clasped in prayer; a cry for help. His whole body heaved with labored breaths, gritted teeth restraining the worst of his grunts. It was dark, and quiet. The night engulfed him whole.

What was happening to him?

Maybe this is how he would finally die – for a second time? Piercing agony arched his back further and a pained yell strained his vocal cords without permission. His white dress shirt was glued to him by sweat, and the buttons pressing tightly into his chest made him gasp for air as if he was suffocating. Breathe. Sweat dribbled down his back, though, had he known it was red he would've understood the severity of his state better. The angel was bleeding.

Knowing he could not stay there, at the altar of God, begging for help he knew he wouldn't receive — the angel managed to stumble up, panting. His steps faltering, struggling to move him along, Chase was barely able to push past the large, heavy doors of the church in an attempt to get away — hide himself. Suffer in silence.

But his anguish was past being silent.

Buttons popped open as his shirt ripped from its seams under the pressure of something much larger stretching it. Groaning, the angel tripped down the stairs under the sheer weight of his pain. Wings. Blood stained feathers fluttered around him.

The fallen angel had his wings once more. Yet he lay on the stairs of the church, hurt and terrified.
