The Missed Potential of WISH
It’s funny.
Last year, I really wanted to watch the new Wish animated film from Disney.
While everyone else were hating on the art and animation style, I actually kind of liked it and was genuinely looking forward to possibly viewing it on the big screen.
Then the reviews came in.
Needless to say, I didn’t watch Wish.
I remember a time when people used to complain about Disney making “too many love stories”. Then Disney stopped making love stories leading to films like Moana, Coco, Encanto and even Turning Red, which weren't bad.
Following the failure of Wish, the biggest complaint I’ve heard for that film is that “it probably would’ve been more successful if it were a love story”.
The last romance Disney had we’re the protagonist was a “black girl” was Tiana from The Princess and the Frog which was technically their last 2D animated feature film.
And don’t get me wrong, til this day, The Princess and the Frog still tracks. Second to Tangled, I still very much love TPATF and it's one of Disney's classics that definitely have the rewatchability.
That being said, Wish is the first Disney film I've seen where the missed potential of what its story was originally supposed to be (herego a love story between a human girl and shape-shifting star boy) versus what we actually got is more popular.
Aww Disney, what were you thinking?!
How could you think a film where the main character, who is a PoC, the first "black girl" (well technically I think Asha is meant to be mixed) female lead/love interest that you've had since Tiana in The Princess and the Frog in 14 YEARS where she is actually human for all of the movie and gets to share a love story with a handsome "star boy" who can literally make all of her dreams come and think that that's NOT gonna make you money!
I haven't even watched Wish yet I've seen more artwork and fan-made animatics of Asha and Star Boy than anything from the actual film.
At this point, Disney should just take all of the original ideas they left on the chopping block for Wish and revise them into a future title which is an actual love story they could market from.
Or…as an audience, we can just wait for one of their competitors, like Dreamworks to smell the blood in the water like the sharks they are and capitalize on Disney’s latest flop by taking the ideas they didn’t use and coming up with something that could potentially usurp the popularity of Wish’s failure.
In the case of Dreamworks, they don’t even need to make a new star boy since, technically, they already have potential “star boy” they can use.
Remember Rise of the Guardians?
Hahaaaaa OF COURSE you do, since it gave us the original immortal boy internet heart throb (also ironically voiced by Chris Pine who played King Magnifico in Wish) ---Jack Frost.
I find it hilarious that another reason why folks are hating on Wish so much is because Disney could've given us another potential immortal boy heart throb "Star Boy" to finally usurp the chokehold that Jack Frost has had on our generation of weebs and artists for the past 12 years since RoTG first dropped.
We could've had it all.
But as I mentioned Rise of the Guardians, did you know that there is character in the original series it was based off of called Nightlight?
While technically not a “star boy”, Nightlight is the closest thing to one in an already established universe from a Dreamworks property and since this squiggle meister never misses a beat to push for continuation of Rise of Guardians, hear me out:
Imagine a Rise of the Guardian prequel-sequel about the character Nightlight and make it a love story.
(Because apparently there's a girl that Nightlight grows close to in his story called Katherine. It's just a friendship but needless to say, there is potential there).
I know it’s been 12 years since Rise of Guardians first dropped and I know I've be hollering for a sequel since 2012.
But c'mon, if there was ever a time for Dreamworks to capitalize on an RoTG sequel, it's now.
As Wish has proven, the internet is hungry for another handsome immortal boy with magical powers.
Dreamworks set the ball rolling with Jack Frost.
If Dreamworks were to revisit RoTG again, take Nightlight's story. Take his design and give him the "Jack Frost" treatment and make it a love story on top of that.
I'm not saying it will happen.
Not even saying it could happen.
But if somehow thought becomes reality and something like this does actually happen, whoever does it will be rolling in dough.
This is just a longwinded way of me to say that somebody needs to bank on the concept of a star falling in love with a human and do it now since as the internet has shown, it's what the people want and what Wish failed to give.

RotG and HiJack Recs
Alright, I'm building this list because some of these fics are just a tad dusty, and they could use more love. (A lot more love, I am literally dying from how much I adored these.) But note that a good few are incomplete.
Let's start with:
INCOMPLETE FICS
The Long Road:
Presently Gen, but Hiccup very much falls for Jack. He does however retain his feelings for Astrid, so bear that in mind. There's the classic Viking mindset when it comes to homosexual relationships that's pretty much giving Hiccup like a lot of anxiety.
But beyond that! I cannot shower this fic with enough praises! It gives me the same sort of excitement that the RotG movie does. Jack's characterization is Spot On. He's friendly and outgoing and also incredibly secretive and flighty. It balances out Jack's blunt mannerisms with a joyous charm and just that hint of vulnerability (which he keeps so well hidden lol).
The plots take place after HttyD, during the Riders of Berk TV series. Jack is folded into the Dragon Rider group who considers him some kind of Elf. Yes, this is Jack Frost in all his frosty glory. The way the story builds on a solid foundation of camaraderie and friendship, giving plenty of scenes to show how Hiccup and Jack became great friends, lends well to the Hiccup's realization of: "Oh I'm into him". Without giving too many spoilers, that "oh" moment is forever ingrained into my memory because of how PERFECTLY timed it is.
This blends Guardians of Childhood book verse with HttyD book verse, mostly via cameos over lore. Overall, a beautiful, fun, and simply enchanting read. I cannot recommend this enough.
A Story about Ice, Dragon Fire, and Belief:
Another gen fic. Mostly, it's about North looking at Jack and going, "he's my son now", and Jack having absolutely none of it. When placed together with Stoik and Hiccup's relationship, it becomes an almost interesting study of contrasts. North is the guy who's trying to prove something to a boy that he disappointed. Hiccup is the guy who's trying to prove something to a man that he disappointed. But ultimately, it ends up the same with a schism forming between the two pairs the harder one of them tries to breach it.
Also, it talks about how Jack is a force of fucking nature? And his blizzards can kill and have killed in the past? There's a little bit of trying to reconcile that with his new ID as a guardian. North is not doing a great job helping here.
But really the Crown Jewel of this fic is North and Berk's reactions to North (and by proxy his relationship to Jack). We go a little into the historical Viking side of things (like the pillaging et al), and apply that lens to this jolly old man. Let's just say some troubling (hilarious) assumptions are drawn. Also...
Everyone loves the sleigh.
I think this is one of the few RotG and HttyD crossovers that really do a good job of merging the two movies. Primarily because it's not just Jack in Berk. And this just made me hungry for more fics where more of the RotG cast arrive as Berk, and be just 100% fantastical and strange as the bedtime stories they are. Put some respect on the Guardians name, if you know what I'm saying.
In the Shadows of My Mind:
This one is an RotG only fic. No pairings except for whatever's going on between Pitch and Nightlight (and by proxy Jack). It's not a for real pairing. That said, it's such a complex and intricate relationship that doesn't resemble a romance but remains markedly intimate. Basically, this fic takes advantage of Pitch and Nightlight's ridiculously long history then throws Jack into the mix. Alive, human Jack in an early 18th century colonial town wherein he very recently did not drown (and boy, isn't that suspicious?)
My favorite thing about this fic is how spot on the dialogue feels? The lexicon, the syntax feels true to the time its set in. Although, I can't say that it is accurate as I'm not an expert of this time period in this region. Regardless, it certainly appears that a good stack of research went into this.
All that said, this fic has captured Bill Joyce's writing style the best, but with a deeper, more complex, more mature layer underpining that bedtime like vibe. There's a good host of OCs but genuinely, I didn't notice them as OCs. I could really believe they were characters of Joyce's books. Not to mention, they feel like fully fleshed out individuals even if they have like maybe two paragraphs of screentime.
The entire premise hinges on the idea of "what if Jack survived the skating accident" and everyone's reactions to that, as well as... the hidden secret thing that involves Nightlight. GoC spoilers are hinted so beware. But the little interplay between Nightlight and Jack is such a delicious little mystery, and also makes me so sad. These two boys deserved better.
Then we throw in Pitch for fun, because Pitch is always fun, and he just makes the whole thing even more complicated or as Jack calls it, "unnatural". But he's not even the main villain. It's Christianity. JK. That said, the fic does explore the idea of well, how would a fairly backwater colony be able to explain how Jack survived or... the powers that's slowly revealing itself from within him. There's a particularly nasty boy (around Jack's age), who is an OC and I believe an exceptionally well placed one. The OC understood his role to play and he plays it fantastically. Everytime he shows up, I too feel scared and indignant and excited all at once.
Speaking of great OCs, shoutout to Jack's Da. His appearances are brief but the impact is maximized with each appearance. He has that sense of realism and whimsy baked into him that I could gush endlessly about.
Overall, just a pure delight to read. Will re-read again and again.
Zastruga:
Total Gen fic. And a classic in my opinion.
I started reading this when I was in college - note the publish date. Nevermind the update date. Because even after all these years, this story? Still good. Still very very good.
This takes the original RotG plot and makes it more epic, and also more sad. RotG was very joyful at its core, which this fic somehow manages to retain. But it's just under a layer of sad. It's not overwhelming angst though, just enough to really pinch your heart.
Also whereas the movie has a few epic battles before things go really wrong, this fic stretches that out into a proper war against Pitch (and Jack). That's right. Jack is with Pitch ala Mother Gothel/Judge Frollo style. Jack isn't locked up entirely. He's given just enough rope to hang himself with. Mind the Jack whump is what I'm saying. But also do note that Jack's character remains as steadfast and loyal as he ever was in RotG, so the whump just hits nicer since this Jack isn't so irrevocably changed.
I have re-read this before. I will re-read this again. Nevermind the incomplete status. There's plenty of chapters that simply give me great joy.
COMPLETE FICS
It's the Great Spirit Sleigh, Hiccup Haddock:
Gen fic, in that there's no pairing actively getting together. But remains faithful to the original canon's hinted love interests. So Hiccup has a big crush on Astrid and Jack leans towards Tooth. That said, the relationship between Hiccup and Jack is just plain adorable and also heart-wrenching. They care about each other. So Much.
Now this is just a good holiday cheer. It literally has the Hallmark movie template, which is the point really. You know, the whole "oh no, a holiday is ruined" followed by "clever and charming ways to fix the holiday". With Hiccup and Jack taking the starring roles.
If you know your Hallmark movies, then you know that the leads get together in the end. And they don't in this fic. But the amount of "Gosh do I care about you" is so good. It's a lot of hurt and a lot of comfort. And I am here for it.
Also, this fic was completed way before the HttyD 3 movie so it doesn't have a canon compliant ending. That may be a bonus for some of you.
Scary Monsters and Super Creeps:
Pre JackRabbit (Bunny/Jack). But honestly the pairing isn't the main focus, mostly that Jack and Bunny admit to liking each other (but not to each other). So their dynamic remains in the best bros category. The pairing mostly shows through the plot machinations.
So long story short, Pitch opens the Guardian-Verse and recruits the other versions of the Guardians - the corrupt versions. And it's good, action/adventure fun. There's some gore, so mind that. Because the corrupt versions are nasty little things that fight dirty. Which makes the action feel like there's legit stakes. Also makes for a quick read because you must know what happens next? Did they get out of this sticky situation? Are they going to be okay? That sort of thing.

Rotbtd as students on the Boiling Isles Art
In the future I might work on an alternate au of rotbtd as owl house characters like Rapunzel as Luz or Jack as Hunter and Pitch as Belos.
I just kinda wanted to do them if they were witches and what kinds of magic they'd probably study. As well as what their palisman would look like.
Let me tell you it was a bitch getting their hair to look right in this art style.
He'd clearly focus most on ice magic but since that's not a class track, I can see him signing up for illusions. Along with Oracle in reference to how he has the power to make people feel joyful in rotg.
I did a voting poll, and snowy owl won for his palisman by a landslide. I can see him naming her Snowflake or Joy. I also designed her staff form to look like a nesting doll, also in reference to rotg. And the top of the staff where palisman rest can look different. So if Jack carved her himself, then it's possible he carved the staff to have the hook as well.
I decided to play with which schools they'd go to and have Hiccup be from Glandus High. Since the only description we have of it being that "if you want respect you have to take it." It feels very similar to Berk's "kill or be killed" philosophy. And of course, Hiccup is in the beast keeping and construction tracks.
Of course Toothless in his found palisman and look; he made Toothless a little prosthetic foot. The palisman are very similar to regular animals but they're almost never one-to-one exact so he has four ears to look like his ear nubs in the original.
I should probably also note here that everyone is 17-18 years old in this au.
She'd definitely be the one who is in almost every track. The only ones she's not in are illusions and construction. Just because I don't think she'd be super into those tracks compared to the others. And let me tell you, it took me way too long of figuring out what color patterns her uniform would be before I realized the colors make a rainbow. And since it seems that hair and eye color can be almost any color on the Boiling Isles, I thought I'd give some variety by giving her purple eyes.
For Pascal, I gave him the design he has in an episode of Tangled the Series season 3, where he temporarily had dragon features.
Her mom definitely forced her to go to the prestigious school of St. Epiderm. In the plants, beast keeping and potions tracks (the gem on her chest is yellow.) I made her eyes such a light shade of teal, not only to further differ from Jack's blue, but also just to make her look less human since her ears are mostly covered
She also definitely carved her own palisman, say hello to little Mor'du. If you can't tell his design is heavily inspired by the little wooden bear kids from Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs.

Soooooo,
@signed-sapphire had me thinking about something lately and noticed a minor plot hole. I do wonder how Sueño is fluent in sign language but doesn’t really know other languages such as Spanish.
(Since you know, he doesn’t know what his new name, Sueño, even means. Saving that for a wholesome reveal. ☺️)
And I’ve been thinking. The reason I made him mute in the first place is a reference to all the pantomime characters Disney used to have back then. (Characters like Dopey from Snow White, Tinkerbell from Peter Pan, and Gideon from Pinocchio). And plus, because it sounded like fun representation for people who are nonverbal. So I wanted to keep it that way.
Many thanks for Saph for helping me realise this plot hole! 💖 It was unintentional, sure, but it’s really helpful for me to see things in another perspective and think it through again.
So here’s what I’m thinking:
Stars above know how to speak spoken human languages such as English and others because they listen to wishes anyway. And they learn how to verbally speak like a child would. Slowly learning the meaning of each sound.
Is Sueño the only mute star? No.
Like humans, I did say that the stars are born all differently. Some are mute, blind, or deaf. These stars can still tend to wishes and communicate with their kind because they have their own language anyways. They can communicate telepathically to other stars in a language that are indecipherable to the human ear. (And ear-damaging loud if spoken out loud on earth. lol.)
Wishes that they receive in their plane of reality also can be heard within their head telepathically. (I got this idea since sound can’t really travel in space.)
When Sueño is on Earth in the story, he’s very familiar with English since he used to listen often to the humans wishing below. But not exactly fluent with other languages since he was captured at a young age.
(Side note: I also have this idea that stars can’t see the way humans live their lives in clear detail. It’s just blurry silhouettes or something. Just like how humans can’t clearly see stars in massive detail. So sign language isn’t a familiar thing to Sueño’s kind. And also they can’t see through clouds if the weather isn’t clear.)
Anyways, what I’m thinking is still have Sueño be a pantomime character. Communicating with movements and facial expressions while also utilising his shapeshifting magic and stardust. Like Sandy from RoTG.
But would it be sweet if he learns sign through Asha? She’s still rusty with it but it’s still helpful. Plus, Dario is fluent with it too because of his hard of hearing.
I think this would be a really nice example for Sueño to discover how considerate humans are to each other that they found ways to communicate with those of a disability. Discovering and realising that not all of them are jerks are after all.
Idk, what do you guys think of this idea? If you give any suggestions in how to tweak it, I might consider them.

Tooth : Exactly what you think I mean.
Jack : You can't be serious!!
Tooth : I wish I wasn't..
Jack : But how do YOU know they're dead?! You could be lying!!!
Tooth : Because I was there, Jack. I was there when it all unfolded. So was Sandy. And North.
Jack : ...what?
Tooth : The dark times were not just when people stopped believing in hope and succumbed to the dark...
Jack : You mean.. There's more..?
Toothiana : Yes. There's more to the past than everyone believes there is.
Jack : Wait... You didn't tell me what you meant when you said you were there when IT happened.
Toothiana : *sigh*
Toothiana : I think you'll want to sit down...
Jack : *sits on the floor because I'm not sure if Tooth's place has chairs or not*
Tooth : Long ago-
Jack : You sound like a parent reading a bedtime story to a child.
Toothiana : *kinda irritated* Do you want the story?!
Jack : "*mumbles*All these history talks have made you serious, huh?" Sorry.Sorry. Move on.
Toothiana : Long ago, when the first gaurdians appeared-
Jack : That would be you, North and Sandy, right?
Toothiana : *gritts teeth* YES...
Toothiana : MoViNg On. When the first guardians appeared, chosen by the man in the moon himself, there was one, who appeared by pure coincidence.
Toothiana : One who was...far too young and naïve yo know right and wrong. That was them.
Jack : Wait. Hold up. Wait a minute... You mean that kid's a guardian?!
Toothiana: 'Was' a guardian.
Jack : ...
Toothiana : The guardian of youth and innocence. The title quite fitted the holder, I should say. But as time passed by, their powers started growing out of control. We did all we could, to sustain that power. And so forth came Pitch using that to our advantage.
Jack : Huh? Seriously? Pitch is related to this too..?
Toothiana: *nods* Hm. Pitch manipulate their innocent little head, filling it with negativity... Until the point they broke down to the point of destroying everything in their path.
Toothiana : We barely managed to stop them... And all of us decided it was best we let them control their powers and hence, the little cabin.
Toothiana : Sandy absolutely hated that idea. I was sort of hesitant too... But with them here, it was...Dangerous. For all of us. And as much as I hated it, I had to smile and bear it. I knew it wasn't fair but... Neither was letting them stay here and cause chaos around the world.
Toothiana : For the first few days, it was empty. Turned out it took a toll on all of us, worse than we imagined it would, especially on Sandy.
Toothiana : Something was missing in our lives... But eventually we got used to it. Sandy resisted to forget them, going as far as to negotiate with North to bring them back. But we couldn't do that. We couldn't let history repeat itself... So North...Erased Sandy's memories of them.. well almost all of it... And then I guess, everything turned into the way it is now.
Jack : Well I would've resisted too... I mean, abandoning a child? Alone? That's a big no no. And erasing someone's memories that's...cruel!!
Toothiana : I know... But it had to be done.
Jack : Yeah... Taking about them... Where are they..?
Toothiana : What? Oh Shhhhh....OCKING PIES!!! Where are they?!?!

After hours and hours of serching, they finally found Y/N. Asleep. On the floor. With a blanket god knows where it came from. With Baby tooth snuggling up to them.
Toothiana: This gives me nostalgia...
Jack : *gushing over them* I know!! They're adorable!! As adorable as me!!!
Toothiana: As adorable as... you?
Jack : YES!!!
*Heavy footsteps*

What are your thoughts on rotg Pitch black and the other characters?
Thank you for your question! I enjoyed sitting down and writing this out. My initial response was “They are Awesome! I adore them and drawing them brings me joy!” But I decided to go more in depth!
Please note these are just my personal opinions, as of May 2023. I judged everyone on three categories: Character, Design, and Drawability.
Nicholas Saint North
My Opinion on his Character: 10/10.
How could anyone not love this guy. He has infectious energy and is one of my all time favorite versions of Santa. I both enjoy his character in the books and the film. I love how he is a strong leader with a big heart who isn’t afraid to stand up for what he believes in. He is so cool and I love his competitive nature.
My Opinion on his Design: 10/10
North’s design is so full of geometric genius. I love how square he is. I also love all the Russian elements like the coat and hat. This is one cool Santa. I adore the tattoos and the swords he wields. I also like his younger self, very pirate adventure vibes.
My Opinion on his Drawability: 8/10
As much as I love this guy he is sometimes a bit hard to draw. He has a lot of tattoos and a large coats and a beard that covers a lot. I need to practice drawing him more. It is a bit fun to draw him in more exaggerated styles, but I definitely need more practice.
E. Aster Bunnymund
My Opinion on his Character: 7/10
Bunny probably scores the lowest on my favorite character scale. I adore movie bunny but book bunny kind of ruins the experience… he is so snooty and his rants get a little tiresome to read. I also don’t personally vibe with the whole alien backstory. I would of preferred him to be an actual bunny. More fantasy less sci-fi. I do love the drama he brings to the group. He is always first to speak up and question things as opposed to just going with whatever plan was proposed.
My Opinion on his Design: 9/10
Both book and movie designs have something different and unique to offer. I adore them both. I love the book bunny little glasses and long robes and staffs. I love movie bunny more tribal warrior rabbit look. Both designs do well capturing a unique look for the Easter Bunny.
My Opinion on his Drawability: 4/10
Bunny may have a great design for me he is extremely hard to draw. I don’t know how to draw animals too good (yet haha). Especially if it’s not stylized for a goofy doodle. He has a lot of elements I need to still learn. Like fur and animal proportions. Sorry bunny maybe in the future I will be better.
Toothiana
My Opinion on her Character: 10/10
I love this fairy so much. She is so adorable and responsible and is a true guardian. Her book backstory is one of the saddest things I’ve read in children’s media and although she put up walls becoming a sort of workaholic she still finds joy and excitement.
My Opinion on her Design: 10/10
She is what I want to think of when people mention a fairy. Not a shrunken down human with wings but something that would exist in nature. Something you wouldn’t bat an eye if you saw. I love the hummingbird design. I love her feathers and her face/eye shape. I just adore her.
My Opinion on her Drawability: 9/10
I do adore her design so much and I love drawing it too. It’s so relaxing drawing all the feathers. I do have a bit of trouble with the wings but I love drawing tooth. She has such a fun color pallet.
Sandman
My Opinion on his Character: 10/10
Sandman is so cool. I love how sassy and laid back he is. I love how he is a friend of the world but is chaotic enough to threaten to knock out a child with his bare fists. He is one of the few characters I don’t mind having a fake out death scene. He steals the show. Also his mermaid sand island should of made it into the film. We got to see everyone else’s homes.
My Opinion on his Design: 9/10
Oh I adore his design. It reminds me of the rankin-bass stop motion designs. He is so adorable and shaped like a star you can hug. I love how he appears to actually be made of dream-sand.
My Opinion on his Drawability: 9/10
Sandy is so fun to draw. I think his design works great in both 2D and 3D. I love giving him goofy expressions.
Jack Frost
My Opinion on his Character 10/10
Jack is an amazing and complex character. He is mischievous and childish he is yet wears his heart on his sleeve. He has this haunted sadness that lingers through him and yet always tries to get others to have fun. I love how much he cares for people despite putting off the cool loner persona. He will do anything to protect the kids, despite being a kid himself!
My Opinion on his Design 7/10
Jacks design is cool but I feel like it needs something. I understand his current look is supposed to be relatable teen but I feel like it’s missing something to help him blend further into the world. I love his outfit as a human. And nightlights armor is neat but I feel like Jack needs just something more then just a hoodie? Just a personal taste thing… I do see what they were going for.
My Opinion on his Drawability 10/10
Jack is so easy and fun to draw. I like drawing him in new outfits and styles. He is also fun drawing as his nightlight book self. Overall a really fun character to doodle and stylize. Especially since there is this constant movement to him.
Pitch Black
My Opinion on his Character 10/10
An amazing villain with a tragic past. I love how cunning he is yet is pretty blind by his own greed. I love how much joy he gets from spreading fear. I love the arrogance to his character and how he gets playful when trying to manipulate and or fight someone. A great villain who enjoys being evil. There is that element of longing for a family to him that is probably left behind from his days as Kozmotis which adds a good amount of drama to play with.
My Opinion on his design 9/10
While the guardians are complex and maximalist in there design pitch is sleek and minimalistic. His pirate aesthetic from the books are cool and his movie design has him move seamlessly in the shadows. I adore his face shape and demeanor. Overall a great simple design that brings contrast to a colorful cast.
My Opinion on his Drawability 10/10
Although simple Pitch is pretty fun to give added design elements too. Especially gold based accents. He is fun to draw in different outfits as well since he doesn’t have a lot to his design. It’s always fun to color him when I’m done drawing the others who have larger color palettes.

Hello everyone! Ngl, somedays i'm on a roll and I can't stop working on production organization, other days, I feel like a little arctic fox, trying to carve a sculpture out of a mountain, using a stick. Today definitely feels like one of those days. I can't always be carving the mountain either, I have to survive first. I need to eat, need to rest, need to drink clean water, need to socialize, need to make money to make rent, to buy food, to buy clean water, to sleep at night. All of these things I wish I didn't have to do. I wish I could just work on carving the mountain, because it intimidates me, and I have done so little each day, I think that this might be pointless. But I also remember i've made a path already, through the mountain, and I did that all by myself, and i'm pretty proud of it! (wags tail). I wish others could see that, they keep telling me, I haven't made any money with this project, and that its a money pit, a waste of time. I don't think its a waste of time Dad. It's fun.

rotg anon here- I'm so, so sorry you went through that! I had no idea. I have never been in the rotg fandom, and only read your fics after FT. I am horrified and disturbed that people can be that viscious. It is harrowing to think you had to go through that and I apologise for bringing up such painful memories.

Thank you so much, but it's also okay. It was a long time ago, I learned a lot, I have been lucky enough to continue really loving writing fanfiction and enjoying fandom, and fortunate that I made some great friends. AND also recovered enough that I can enjoy the Rise of the Guardians movie now! I didn't think that would ever happen again, but it did, which is great because the art and acting and all of it - it's a great movie.
Though yeah, for a while, things around fandom really did suck. There were certain things I never expected that were like 'what? People really do this? And say these things???' but they do. I became a lot more delete and block happy re: anons and Tumblr asks. And I'm even able to keep anon open / on, and I know a lot of people who just don't bother. But I think it's important as a function because like, as someone with social anxiety, I know how important that anon function can be to the shy ones in particular.
And it's okay re: the painful memories too <3 It was actually good to kind of just talk about it all at once. I realised enough time had passed that I safely could, and I don't think I've ever just...told the story? There's been sentences here and there, but it was good to just be like 'actually, this is what was happening, and it impacted me a lot, but I recovered and I still met some great people.' In retrospect, maybe I shouldn't have stayed so quiet at the time, because other people were getting hurt by these people too, and probably could have done with the support. But it's hard to know the right thing to do sometimes!

I'm going BONKERS and can't focus on SHIT this week so plz enjoy this list of wip ideas that I have that Will Not Let Me Rest and Focus on CS
AU in which Winter and Blaise disappear and Jack becomes the legal guardian of an INCREDIBLY angry 1400 year old Jacqueline and 300 year old Fino and Fiera who seem to be stuck in their terrible two hundreds STILL and are on FIRE and have a penchant for blowing shit up all. the. time.
Smile Shot in which Jack and Jacqueline have to chase a piece of fractured time that is hell bent on killing them for some reason through multiple timelines to defeat it, and get stuck with their younger, pre-day of darkness selves 👀👀👀
A series in which the youngest Diteline kid, Robyn, makes a funky cool friend and they go on all sorts of magical adventures that get them both into heaps of trouble. The friend is 100% human. Robyn can set things on fire. Shenanigans ensue.
Diteline are acting Cupid and Jack Frost at this point, for maximum shenanigans
AU in which Jack isn't the BAD guy but is INCREDIBLY chaotic. Why? Because in this AU, in fact, the WHOLE REASON I want it to exist, is because I want to see a version of tsc3 in which Jack sees Santa's loosing sight of what's important and decideds "hey, let me help him by forcing him to use the escape clause, taking his place, so he can learn a Valuable Life Lesson about family in a very Dickens-esque way.
This results in a scene where Jack explains this plan to Jacqueline after enacting it (so he's Santa) and Jacqueline just stands there, hands on her hips, absolutely furious like, "YOU THOUGHT W H A T?"
(tho it does end with Jacqueline being like do u think it'll work. And Jack being like I know it will. And Jacqueline being like FINE. UGH. WHY are you LIKE THIS but agreeing to help nontheless)
Story based on when I thought the series was going to be called "Clause for Celebration" in which, to find a replacement Santa, Scott has a Santa-Lympics where the Legends pick a champion to claim the title of Santa Claus. Unfortunately, he learns too late that he can't pick Charlie. Jack also can't pick Charlie bc he gets BANNED from picking a champion COMPLETELY by the dude who is making sure it's all "fair" (most likely a mischievous evil fairy). Jack finds a loophole--Legates are technically Legendary and by those rules, can pick a Champion if they'd like to.
Charlie is a school teacher and is upset about the Santa-Lympics bc he cannot participate. Danielle also teaches and knows about the Santa thing and is encouraging him to do it anyway. She's made friends with the quirky new librarian, Ms. Winters, who has these AMAZING fantasy stories during story time, and tells Charlie to ask her and pretend it's a story. She'd dig it. Ms. Winters does, in fact, dig it, and tells him he should volunteer anyway and maybe someone will sponsor him in a very hunger games-esque way because surely, there are more Legendary figures than just the ones he knows, right?
So he does. Guess. guess who sponsors him. GUESS. Shenanigans ensue. Krampus is the BBEG. Diteline get eaten by Krampus. Jacquie commits atrocities. Charlie defeats Krampus. It's great. This one's too developed for my own good, holy hell.
RotG Crossover where the Legates get sucked into the Guardians universe bc of a dumb Pitch plot. Toothiana thinks Myles is the cutest thing! Jack is sus of Jacqueline. North thinks Charlie is v tiny and funny for a Santa. Charlie really wants a Yeti. Xander is super excited to interact with someone who knows SSL (sand sign language). Our Jack pops into the universe to bring back Jacqueline (and the others too, I GUESS) without telling the rest of the Council. When he finally finds his sister a scene ensues where Pitch is like, "YOU'RE Jack Frost. and YOU'RE Jack Frost (points to Jacqueline). ARE THERE ANY OTHER JACK FROSTS I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?" and our Jack goes "Hi." Pitch whips around and gets socked in the face by him. Shenanigans and angst ensue, the latter especially on the rotg side of things >:)

As a content creator, how do you keep yourself going? I feel like no one cares me or my work and it just makes me wanna die. I can't tell if I'm lazy or just not trying or bad at making friends.
// Its tricky, when I first started out with this blog no one and I mean NO ONE wanted to interact because I wasn't canon. It was difficult and made me feel like my stuff wasn't much, but I kept going because it was still something I enjoyed even if other people didn't really. Made up my own characters with their connecting backstories and did my own thing, reaching out to other blogs I was interested in and backing off if they weren't interested. A had very few people who interacted.
My blog didn't really kick off until I joined the ROTG fandom, I made a couple of friends who then had me talking to their friends and so on and then I had more friends to interact with. I'm still friends with a few of them! As that fandom dwindled (its still around though) I also got into Undertale and made some good friends there too!
The key things I learnt is its very rare someone will come to you, you have to go to them. And sometimes they won't be interested but thats okay, everyone has their own interests. Think of it like this; I don't like mushrooms and won't eat them, but I know there are people who love them. If someone comes to me and asks me to eat mushrooms I'll politely decline, the nice thing for the other person is be like 'Oh oki, no problem. I'll give them to people who do like mushrooms, have a nice day!' Be like that, but with your blog. Thats what I do.
If you keep looking you'll find your people, it just takes a lot of time. Do what you like to do for as long as you love it. Cos its my love of my characters and their stories and the fun I have with them that kept me going. I cared about my work, and that was enough.

Rise of the Guardians is officially 10 years old
I like to think of myself as the first and longest time fan of this film specifically, because I saw it the very first day it was out in theaters and it's been my #1 favorite story ever since. It has never once wavered from that spot.
I just remember reminiscing about it in class for days afterwards, which is something I've never done with a film before or ever since. It truly captivated me in a way that no other story has and it's part of the reason why I'm aspiring to go into animation now.
It just fascinates me how much work, writing and art went into this movie that was in production for 7 years. But it also makes me sad because I know there is so much stuff they made behind the scenes that we'll never get to see because it didn't do well at the box office. So DreamWorks can't make one of those eye opening documentaries on it's production like Disney does with everything they make nowadays. I want to see ALL the deleted scenes and unfinished/unused designs, story bits, set pieces, merch, even unused promotional material like cardboard cutouts and products because I know they have that. There was so much planned and scraped simply because the film didn't make enough money.
And it doesn't really have a large fandom even today. There are many underrated gems like Megamind, Road to ElDorado and Atlantis and they have so many people talking about and making memes from it, as well as getting YouTube reactors to watch them but rotg just... doesn't. Rotg has reaction videos, yes, but not nearly has many as any other movie in existence. Which really sucks because I've been here since day 1 and it hurts to watch this film being stuck in this stalemate in terms of popularity.
So if there is anyone reading this that hasn't seen rotg, of course I strongly recommend you do so. It's a beautiful movie that genuinely leaves you feeling like a kid again, just on first viewing. I also encourage more people to make more content for the fandom. DreamWorks truly left us out in the desert to starve 😭
I originally downloaded Tumblr in the first place just so I could get my thoughts out to the world, otherwise I would combust. And that's because almost all of those thoughts were on the characters and story of rotg. Sure other characters have been mentioned like my posts on rotbtd or when I need to vent about bad designs because I'm a passionate artist but it can almost always be traced back to rotg.
Is it silly that a 19 year old woman is a fan of a movie about childhood? Maybe.
Does me wanting to see the smallest sliver of content for rotg make me look like psychopath? Probably.
But you know what? I don't care. Much like how Schaffrillas Productions feels Tamatoa is special to him because he likes the character while many don't, I feel rotg is special to me because I've always loved it while many people haven't even seen it.
This has been my appreciation post for the 10 year anniversary of rotg and with all that said and done my final statement shall be; rotg has officially consumed over half of my life and that's probably not healthy but
