The world was turned upside down, or so some said.” 🐍✨🐍✨🐍 The Leviathan by Rosie Andrews is a dark and twisty historical gothic fantasy fiction set in Norfolk 1643 and 1703, following Thomas Treadwater as he tries to unravel the truth of what has happened at home while he was away, as nothing is how it should be - including his sister Esther. This book was so darkly atmospheric and twisty, and I loved that the eerie vibe of the book only kept ramping up the further we went in. I never quite knew what was coming next, or where the novel was going but I think that’s part of why I found it so hard to put down. I also loved how this book had a strong focus on justice and truth, as well as suspicion and mythology. It was fascinating to watch the people around Thomas be swayed by their feelings and thoughts, rather than the facts, and I really enjoyed watching how he grew up and matured over the course of the novel. I was a fan of how the author included both biblical and classic references to authors and the Leviathan. I am so blinking excited that it’s Friday!! Not only is it the weekend but I have Monday to Thursday off next week too and I’m going away for a little 2 night getaway. What better way to celebrate than with a book haul? 🤪 These three gorgeous hardbacks are special editions, either from @waterstones or @illumicrate where I have become a recent subscriber. I loved Isabel Allende’s House Of Spirits and was determined to check out her latest novel, Violeta which I’m going to be buddy reading with the beautiful @sandladysbooks This novel has been described as epic, fiercely inspiring and deeply emotional. It follows one extraordinary woman, one hundred years of history and an unforgettable story. Yes please 🤤 Then there is the gorgeous This Woven Kingdom which I have already buddy read with my awesome IG and real life bestie @keeperofpages I shared the sprayed edges of this exclusive Illumicrate edition when I first got if and will share again in my review. It’s a great story and I definitely can’t wait for the next in the series. Finally, The Leviathan which also has gorgeous sprayed edges courtesy of Waterstones. It’s been described as the most beguiling debut of 2022 and is a tale of family and loyalty, superstition and sacrifice but most of all it is a spellbinding story of impossible things.
