also thinking a lot abt the fey ballet bc it gives me a lot of material for my silly little theories and ideas. like,, what happened between the fey and the bard king to make them hate him so much? is this hatred mutual? was the propaganda in ep 6 depicting the fey as evil? are "mother" and the bluebird from ep 5 the same person? if so, it implies that she and youngblood were close in some sort of way. but if they were close, then why was youngblood a student at the bard college? hhh fey ballet
Okay I actually have A Lot of thoughts about this (which is the reason it took me like two weeks to answer this, sorry -w-) so you have come to the right person anon! These are just my personal thoughts about this topic with a little bit of theorizing thrown in, so let's jump on in!
I don't have much to say on your first two questions right now, but I have an idea I'm going to mention later that ties into them. But for my thoughts on this question on its own: I'd assume the Bard King stole his power from the fey and is trying to suppress them now because he sees them as the biggest threat to his power, which would explain the hatred. With that said, it would be interesting to see how a separate resistance against the Bard King (perhaps one led by our protagonists? 👀) could ally with the fey.
Now, onto your other three questions, the ones I'm most excited about!
I do think the propaganda in episode 6 was intended to paint the fey as evil! I believe that the poem Tempo recites refers to The Bard King stealing some kind of godly music powers from the fey, so that would make the fey the ones being villainized there.
However, I want to point out a few things now. Think about the phrasing used in the message. It specifically refers to "the fiery hands of evil". And Youngblood, who has innate fire magic, also counts as fey, at least enough that he started to fade into the Amalgam before Roman and Noise dragged him away. Also, it's intriguing that the first place we hear of Youngblood's last name, Ra, is when Tempo is announcing him to the other fey. How did xe know his last name, and why is this fey gathering the first place we hear it said?
With this in mind, I think it's plenty likely that the bluebird could have been Mother, it would fit along with Tempo including Youngblood's last name. And now we come to your follow-up question!
"But if they were close, then why was Youngblood a student at the bard college?"
Between Youngblood's fey blood, the importance he was given in the Bard College, and the fact that he has to have found out about some kind of immoral action that the Bard King took that drove him to run away, I've crafted a theory.
I think that as a part of suppressing the fey's power, the Bard King stole a young child from them to raise in his new kingdom and train in his Bard College. It's possible that he chose the child for being particularly powerful, or maybe the child's power was a lucky (for the Bard King) coincidence. Either way, the child eventually develops fire magic, much like the Bard King remembers fighting from the fey. He gives this child special attention and pushes them to harness the power of their fire, but he can't keep the child's heritage secret from them, and combined with the pressure he'd put on them, it drives them to run away. And as you probably guessed, this child would be Youngblood.
There's questions this theory brings up that I don't have answers for (ex: why is Youngblood so casual towards the fey if he knows they're his origin?) but all of the ones I've thought of so far are also ones that I fully believe could be easily answered. And in addition, I just think this theory would be super interesting! The Bard King stealing Youngblood as a child would most definitely be an intriguing explanation as to why Youngblood holds so much resentment towards him, don't you think?
Anyways, those are just my impromptu theory thoughts on your questions anon! Again, I'm super sorry this took so long to answer, sorting the thoughts out into a coherent post was difficult for me, but absolutely enjoyable! Thanks so much for your ask!

Okay, can we talk about how fantastic all the other side's little cameos in Roleslaying with Roman are??? Janus is a literal snake oil salesman. LILYPADTON. They are wonderful!!
Also extremely interesting from a theory perspective.
I mean. So far they've all been animal themed. If that keeps up, we could learn more of the light sides' symbol animals (since we really only see the dark sides', aside from the Lilypadton Redux Incident). Plus, how will Remus be incorporated into the story? Will he be just an octopus-themed side character? Or will the Sander Sides brother dynamic prevail, and he'll be Roman of Reston's long lost evil twin? If we see an orange, angry character with an intriguing name, I'll riot.
I know that Sanders Sides and RSwR are not connected. But. Thomas seems like the kind of wonderful, evil person to hide little foreshadowing tidbits amidst the Whimsy. So I'll just keep an eye out, for fun.
Also... maybe I've gone off the deep end here... but look at RSwR Janus' design:
Tumblr media
A purple potion that doesn't look like any other one and is held far away, a red potion and green potion in the same kind of jar, two blues, one yellow, an Orange, and finally a pink one.
Is the "yellow" potion just a second orange one? From what I can see, yeah.
Does this theory imply a pink side? Yes.
Do I make any sense right now? Not at all, but I don't care.
Here, have a Lilypadton. For whimsy.

Ok so I have a lot of different theories for roleslaying and I realised today and some of them kinda link together so they’re going in the same post. Enjoy!
-
Why does Ryker have a bias against bards (pt 1)/why does Roman not know about music?
I’ve talked about this theory before but recent episodes have given me more evidence in favour of it so imma talk about it again. Basically, I think there was a war years ago between the bards and the people of Reston (although I don’t think Reston existed at this point but we’ll get into that.)
The strongest bit of evidence I have for this is what was said to Roman and Youngblood when they entered Fantabulous Neon:
“The score of life was wrestled away from the fiery hands of evil by our glorious bard king. He single handedly defeated ??? With his legendary musical abilities going beyond what any bard could hope for. He has discovered thought this grand trial that he had ascended to godhood. He immediately set off to fix the problems of the world with this newfound power, taking the old ??? Palace and raising it far into the sky to create his enlightened bard’s collage. From on high he saw our worlds ills and went about curing them and created the utopia that we now live in. It has been many years since our king last descended from the collage but he saved our world and would never let it fall into darkness again.”
It’s clear from this monologue that the bard king at some point in time was able to hone and develop his abilities as a bard and soon became corrupt, wanting to gain more power and started the bard collage as a way to essentially groom kids like Youngblood and Noise into following him and brainwashing as many people as possible into worshipping him.
In addition to this, we also have the name of Reston itself. I’m not a music expert. Quite the opposite, I don’t know shit about music other than it sounds pretty so I’m going off of google and what was said in live streams here so if anyone wants to correct me on anything plz do. However, I believe a “rest” in music is a period of time where no music is playing. And considering this was mentioned in a livestream, I’m assuming it will be relevant as I can’t see why they’re bring it up if it wasn’t. So going by this information, Reston is literally a town without music. It’s basically in the name.
Based on this information my theory is that when the bard king was spreading his tyranny and aiming for more and more power, there were people who fought back and this resulted in a war of some kind or at the very least hid away from the bards. These people at some point I think came together and formed what we now know as Reston, the town without music. This is why Roman has never heard of music and why Ryker is so mistrusting of Youngblood when he finds out he’s from the Bard collage. From Rykers point of view, Youngblood could be a spy or something for the bard king. And yes I do believe it’s possible Ryker potentially fought in this war or was one of the founders of Reston, along with Aunt Patty but we’ll cover that in a bit.
-
Why is the name “Roman” illegal in fantabulous neon?
This one is one of my shorter theories and I’ll admit there isn’t loads of evidence to back it up but I still think it’s an interesting thought. Basically I think that the name of the Bard King is Roman. The reason for this is because I think it’s odd that Roman of all names is illegal. I did some Googling and as far as I could tell there isn’t any particular meaning to the name that would make it criminal worthy to the bards. Even Noise admits that he doesn’t know why the name is illegal. The only explanation in my mind is that the Bard King made the name Roman illegal so that he was the only one with that name or something. Or it was the name he was once known as before becoming the bard king. I honestly think this is possible as we don’t hear any characters who would presumably know the bard kings name refer to him by name. Not Noise, Youngblood, Flow or even the talking book. It’s always just “the bard king.”
But then why would Ryker name Roman “Roman” if he was supposedly involved in the war and potentially knows the bard kings name? Well that leads me onto my final theory…
-
Who was that bard in Ryker’s memory/why does Ryker have a bias against bards (pt 2)?
Rykers bias against bards is especially strange when you see that in his memory he was clearly friends with a bard. It’s obvious that this person was a bard as well given their instruments and literally just everything about them. Even if there was a war or a corrupt bard, it doesn’t make sense for Ryker to change his mind about bards that drastically if he was once close with one. So what happened? I think a betrayal.
I think that the bard we are seeing in this memory is the bard that later became what we know now as the bard king. I think them and Ryker were close for a very long time and Ryker potentially even helped this bard develop their magic and skills. But soon they started developing a god complex, wanting more and more power and becoming corrupt. Ryker trying to help but it not working and it eventually coming down to Ryker having to fight against the person who was once his best friend and forming a village that bans those who are bards for the sake of their safety.
While there isn’t a great deal of evidence to support this, I’ll admit, I do think it’s interesting Youngblood and Noise’s backstory mirrors this situation fairly well. One person developing their power and in the process hurting the other and running away before things could get sorted out. Then seeing each other again and there being a battle. While this may seem pretty irrelevant and to be fair, it potentially is, I do know how much Thomas and his friends love a good bit of foreshadowing and it wouldn’t surprise me if this was an example of that.
Linking back to my previous theory, as for why Ryker would possibly name Roman after the person who betrayed him, I honestly think the answer is pretty simple. He genuinely cared about that person. Platonic, romantic, whatever, this person was likely one of Rykers best friends and one of the people he trusted the most. Those feelings don’t just disappear no matter how much he likely wanted them to. As a result, Roman was named after the person who Ryker once cared about, even if it ended in fighting and heartbreak.
-
So yeah, those are my thoughts and I can’t wait for the new episode tonight!!

I was watching an edit of Roleslaying while I was procrastinating getting in the shower and noticed something.
Tumblr media
When the shadowed figure ,that most of us assume is the bard king ( by the theme of purple, the lute and Ryker not liking bards or the bard college ), a ring appears on Romans hand. In this vision thing we can assume that he is supposed to be Ryker. So why the ring? We never see Ryker wearing any rings in any of the shots of him, so where did this ring come from? Roman doesn’t wear any rings either?
Usually I have an idea for something like this, but nothing that has any other real evidence is coming to mind. Every idea I’m having is a stretch.
Until I noticed what finger the ring is placed on.
The ring is placed on the index finger on his left hand ( I can assume the left because of shot previous ). You know what rings are placed on the index finger on your left hand?
WEDDING RINGS.
But Romans mom isn’t here? We can assume this is sometime shortly before Roman was born because Aunt Patty looks the same, and she ( and Ryker ) are out adventuring, which you can’t really do when you have a newborn at home.
Most of us assume Romans mother is dead because she went adventuring with Ryker, or that’s what I thought, so why isn’t she here? Ryker is adventuring. Ryker has is wedding ring on. Why isn’t Romans mother here? If Roman sees Patty in this vision, and even a man he doesn’t know, then why wouldn’t he at the least feel the presence of a woman he doesn’t know. Whatever caused the vision is clearly not him. So it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t know their faces, so why wouldn’t he see his mom!
I’m thinking of anything I can, but I only have one idea, and its that Ryker and this presumable Bard King dated at one point but there really nothing that can back that up. It’s probably the dumbest idea I have ever had, also doesn’t explain why Ryker would have the ring on and how Roman is here so I can probably trash that idea. Any ideas? I’m fresh out. Or is this just another one of me overthinking something? Just weirds me out. There’s a close up shot of the hands, and another where the ring disappears, they obviously want us to see it.
Please send me your ideas and anything that I might have missed in any of the episodes that connects back to this. Maybe I can piece something together? I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, though.

I’m not even sure if Virgil will show up in roleslaying but one of my theories is that he’ll show up as a violinist :D he might not be apart of the royal marching band but I feel like he would be a member of the bard college. I feel like he would use his magic like Lindsey Stirling in her Shadows music video. He could make whatever he wanted out of shadows using his violin.

Roleslaying with Roman theory
Since we got to see a bit of Romans past in the last episode, I was thinking what probably happened to his mother and his family in general. I got some theories regarding this subject.
I think Romans mother was a knight as well. She could have been also a normal villager, but knowing that Romans whole family tree is composed of knights and heroes, it’s more likely she was one as well. She married Ryker and gave birth to Roman, she still served a role of preserving the village she lived in. I can see her as a kickass woman with  dark red hair and hazel eyes. I like the idea that her name was Rohan. It’s a name that means ‘’red haired’’ if I’m correct. I theorize that she named her child Roman because the two names are similarEvery knight was on patrol and a raid happened. The enemies were so powerful that most fled to safety expect Rohan, who was fighting the raiders to protect Roman. She died even though she was strong.
When Ryker and Patty came to see if there were other people remaining at the village- they found the lifeless body of Rohan in a protective pose to keep Roman safe. So they gently took Roman, buried Rohan near where she died and walked away, silently...
I really like this theory, but I would really like to know what you think.

Theory based on newest episode of Role Slaying with Roman TW- spoilers ???
My brain decided to have a thought- so we've seen Janus; sir snek who is adept and sneaky and just beautiful- (which is freaking cool) but with all the purple and the way young blood is so anti social- what if the bard king is Virgil- and he's just as anti social. I love this thought and it's ok if it's wrong- it's just also all so perfect

RWSR THEORY TIME!
(tw for possible spoilers)
Me and @enigmasalad have been talking about theories on Roleslaying with Roman. With the recent episode and some lore hunting as well as help from enigma, we put together some kind of theory. It might be far out there but it fits with some info we found.
The theory is that Roman is either half-bard or his mother was bard. We also had the theory that something happened to Roman’s mother and Ryker’s party involving bards.
In episode 1, Roman doesn’t know anything about singing. His father won’t let him leave Reston or take the family sword, constantly saying he isn’t ready.
In episode 3, Roman introduces Ryker to Youngblood and Ryker seems tense when Youngblood mentions he’s from the Bard college. And in the end, Aunt Patty was the one who gave Roman the sword rather than Ryker.
In episode 5, Roman has that vision in the cave where his father refuses to tell him about his mother until he’s older as well as telling him he’ll never be good enough.
In the most recent episode, Noise seems to recognize Roman as the DM says so. Noise ends up arresting Roman but makes up the excuse that it’s because of his name. Why would he just arrest Roman because his name?
So, what does this add to?
1. Roman’s mother was a bard and Ryker lost her. After the college started tightening down on rules, Ryker left with Roman and possibly Aunt Patty who knows as well. They moved to Reston. Aunt Patty wants to tell Roman but Ryker told her not to say anything. So Aunt Patty gave Roman the sword and convinced Ryker to let Roman go so Roman can find out the truth for himself. Ryker also made sure nothing about music was taught to keep Roman from finding out about his bard side.
2. Something happened to Ryker’s wife and family involving bards. In the most recent episode, Youngblood explains that they’re turning bards into weapons. Maybe when it first began, the first weaponized bards attacked Ryker’s group and Ryker escaped with a baby Roman and moved to Reston to protect him. He never brought up the subject of bards or music as it brought back bad memories so Roman grew up knowing nothing of it.
3. This is @enigmasalad’s theory. She says that Ryker had a love affair with a bard and when the bard college began weaponizing them, they did not allow love and romance to get in the way of that. So when the wife had Roman, she gave him to Ryker and sent them away to keep them safe and hidden from the Bard College.
So these are some theories we had. It could be far. It could be close. Either way, I’m eager to see where the story continues on.

Doing this because I can-
My Theories for Upcoming Roleslaying With Roman Episodes :
Tumblr media
We’ve seen Janus, we know who Youngblood represents, We know Roman’s Roman.. but what about Patton, Logan, and Remus? I feel like the reason why Roman’s dad never speaks about Roman’s mom is because she divorced him and left with Remus. I know it sounds false, since Thomas himself has said that the storyline of RWR does not have any correlation with Sandersides. But hear me out-
“Dad.. where’s mom?”
“Well Roman- er.. maybe we’ll talk about this another day.”
And then he brings it up with Aunt Patty after Roman goes to bed
“He’ll find out soon about Remus and his mother, the two of them are just too powerful together. We can’t have that.”
“I know, but is keeping Roman in the dark the best thing?”
There’s a scene in the intro that I think takes place in the next episode. I believe it takes place in the bard university. Because of the mist with eyes that we see for a moment.
He could also be the very much unwanted child of the king.

Roleslaying with Roman: thoughts and theories
im rewatching RSwR and I noticed some things I had to share.
in Episode 1:
when roman and youngblood are interrogating fast Timmy at the well, Timmy briefly mentions ( around the 39:00 mark in the video)
FT:" I've never stolen from that place, I've tried so many times. always get turned into a goat.
R: "you got turned into a goat?"
FT: "I wasnt talking about that..."
so that implies that burgundy red has access to some sort of magic to transform people ( possibly only into goats, idk.), and then they're forced to work for her.
so maybe Fast Timmy's gang used to be larger until one ( or two, depending on if Youngblood actually saw the second one) were caught trying to steal and transformed.
Side note: idk if it's just how Aj portrayed burgundy, but I sensed something slightly ominous about them. so maybe red is a secret villain?

So I realized something when I was coloring in the first few frames for one of my last posts; Dorian has a tail. Which is something that I didn’t notice in my first four watch-throughs. So it got me thinking. Dorian looks like he might be a tiefling. And his skin is purple, just like Noise’s.
Which leads me to this theory; Dorian is Noise’s father.
Now of course, just because there are two purple tiefling in the series doesn’t mean that they’re related, that would be like me assuming Flow and Djembe were siblings. No, I have a few more things that fit together for this.
One, the shapes of the horns: Noise’s horns point inwards in a sort of reverse-arch, crown-like shape, while Dorian’s are also in an arched shape, just pointed outwards.
Two, the other citizens of Reston being reoccurring: first we just had Burgundy Red’s franchise in the beginning of chapter three, but I did believe that to be a coincidence. That is, until chapter four, which was all about the orphans and Tenpenny Samuel coming back into the limelight. I think it’s only fair to assume that Dorian will also reappear for a reason later on in the series.
Three, the star theme: in “The Fey Ballet”, we see that Noise’s outfit is heavily based on the stars, with the pattern over his half-mask, as well as the insides of his sleeves and ruffles. Not only that, but when he dances, it is described as making Noise “[look] like a comet, as he was followed by a streamline of glittering stars”. Now, that may have been to fit in with the sun and moon motif that Roman and Youngblood had, but I think there may be a bit more to it. If you recall, one of the only pieces of lore that we got about Dorian was that, at some point before living in Reston, he had travelled through a place called the Astral Sea, which was shown and described as a sea made of stars and “space juice”. I think maybe, based on this, that Noise may have been born on or even possibly from the Astral Sea.
As for why Noise would have ended up in the college, I have two vague ideas. One, much simpler, Dorian thought that being in the sea would be too dangerous for Noise. Though by this logic, he could have just kept him when he went to Reston. My other idea is a bit more heavy. From what I’ve heard of D&D lore, tiefling are mostly shunned by other communities as they’re seen as demons. I don’t know if that’s true, it’s just what I’ve heard. I think this may have factored into why Noise ended up in the college if it is true, as Dorian may have sent him there thinking that it would be a safe place for him, under the impression that the school would let him come home periodically (it didn’t).
But hey, that’s just a theory. A highly stretched, improbable theory.

Roleslaying With Roman fan fic I'm working on
Title: Who Is My Mom?
This is a story I've wanted to revise and continue for several months now. Hopefully within the next month or so I'll write a new chapter, but I do want to take some time to create an actual planned plot for this so stay tuned.
Summary: Roman is on a quest to find out who his family is. With the help of Youngblood, Noise, and all his friends, will he be able to find the closure he want? Or will it lead to more heart break?

Rewatching episode 6 of Roleslaying and something caught me attention.
So AJ says, when we first meet Temp and Arpeggio disguised as the plague doctor, that the costumes in the cart all have a plant vibe to them.
But when we see Youngblood, Roman and Noises outfits they all a specific motifs that repress the galaxy. Why wouldn’t their outfits be plant-ish too? Why instead have them be something so much bigger than plants and life itself? Does it have something to do with how connected they are? Maybe it’s about how they have a bigger role in all this than they believe? I am I just overthinking this? I don’t know!
I do understand that some of the outfits were described as ‘starry more solar looking’ but I just think it’s interesting that they all got put in outfits that all match each others. Like AJ did say that most of them were more plant-y so why didn’t any of them get plant themed outfits? I mean, Tempo and Arpeggio themselves (the people who most likely picked these outfits out for them) were in plant themed outfits with their little butterfly masks.
There’s probably nothing to find from this, but it caught my attention and I thought I’d bring it the Tumblr to see if anyone else thought the same.
