I hope people understand how iconic and important Kevin Conroy's Batman was. Every interpretation of the character after BTAS, every animated show and every live action film -they've all been directly affected by Kevin's performance. The iconic "default Batman voice" you most likely think of in your head whenever the character comes up was probably coined by him. Evey actor on the big screen that has played the character was essentially doing a Kevin Conroy impression. Conroy wasn't just a voice actor, he was an openly queer man, a talented performer, and really, he WAS Batman. And he would keep reprising his role up until rather recently. He never stopped offering his voice to him. I really hope his talent is remembered and appreciated.

It's funny to me, although I understand why, that everyone treats Bruce as the "obviously angsty mentally ill one" compared to Clark. Like everyone expects the Broody Batman™️ to be fucked up, obviously. But it's so weird to me that people treat Superman as if he is Mr. Cheerful Healthy Sunshine when, as a fan of the character, I'm willing to die on the hill that's he's just as messed up. You're telling me the man who spends his whole life feeling painfully isolated, lonely and alienated, so desperate and obsessive with being percieved and accepted as human, after he had his own sense of humanity slowly and forcibly taken away from him as a child by his own body through sudden and traumatizing ways, who has to carry the legacy of a near extinct species on his shoulders almost entirely alone, while desperately trying to scrape and preserve any information about his own people, is the pinnacle of mental health? Like, really? The guy who's the embodiment of "I'm gonna get a good grade at being a regular human being, which is both normal to want and possible to achieve"? That guy? That guy is trauma free?

I think the only thing that kinda bothers me (but not really) about MAwS’ good reception is people saying things like “wow! They actually made Superman likeable/relatable! I finally like him now.” or “oh they finally came up with a good personality / characterization for him! It’s nice to see him reinvented like this, why didn’t they do it earlier?” and it’s like. they have. Almost all of the elements of this version of him that I’ve seen praised are like, present in good Superman books. He’s already been like this multiple times (when he’s allowed to be written by competent people at least). There are versions of him where the clumsiness is just himself and not some mask he puts on, almost all versions of him struggle with identity, he’s so often authentically goofy, gentle and awkward, he can get frustrated and angry and petty without it coming off as some sort of “evil scary Superman” trope etc etc
Like yeah I fully understand that he’s been kinda butchered by bad writers and (often mainstream) adaptations, as well as years of generalized pop-culture flanderization. And yeah, they might be harder to come by, but MaWS Clark is extraordinarily similar to a lot of good authentic versions and depictions of him, and Superman fans have been trying to tell you a long time now.
I hope this doesn’t come off as smug, but what I’m trying to say is that this version of Clark is only a re-invention if you have little familiarity with him to begin with- and that’s not a bad thing! It means it’s a good chance to get to know the character more.

I generally avoid modern comics so I haven't even read enough to be sure of this so, please DO correct me if I'm wrong but: I feel like a big part of what bothers me about modern DC stories is that we just. don't see enough of the quiet civilian moments anymore. There's no day-to-day life and casual clothes and workplace shenanigans. It's all been replaced with constant fast-paced high-energy plot-filled superheroing. When's the last time we got to see these characters chilling in something that isn't spandex. Where's the delicate balance between the mundane and human that elevates the more fantastical/sci fi action filled moments. I feel like that's a big part of 80s and 90s DC that gave these comics their general feel, and that seems to be simply missing nowadays.

New MAwS episode review: Mallah and the Brain were in it being old married queens. 10/10.
Also is the Evil General Guy being set up to be Sam Lane or am I just completely blanking out on other more possible candidates. I feel like my memory of DC characters exits my body the moment I'm trying to identify them in new incarnations. It has to be Sam Lane, right???

Completely forgot about this, but some time ago I had a dream there was some sort of DC and Studio Trigger collab anime. It was a slice-of life show about Kara and Babs where they went to the same school and had to balance normal teen life with superheroing a la typical magical girl show. I think it had some ongoing plot around a shady mega-corp (probably Lexcorp??) secretly stashing alien technology, including Kryptonian tech, which led the girls to doing a bunch of espionage within their labs or something. I think there was some ongoing plot about said company making an evil Alura Zor-El tech-ghost AI??? Which was the focus of some sort of ongoing character arc for Kara. The dream ended with the girls leaving said shady labs to rush to school, all while arguing in the halls about being late and various other normal teen nonsense. I jolted up and immediately sat down and drew how I remember their designs looking like, in their Yoshinari-esque glory and everything, but honestly I don’t know if I have a target audience for that lol

This might might extremely petty and personal/subjective, but one of my biggest annoyances around people discussing Clark as a character is when they go "It's interesting how his powers give him all the symptoms and behaviors of autism even tough he isn't actually autistic!" and it's like. brother. what's even the point of allegory anymore........ Why chicken out last minute.
"I interpret all of this character's behaviors as autistic coded but he's actually just an alien haha! Yeah he masks, obsesses and struggles over fitting in and being seen as normal, has sensory overload all the time, clumsiness around coordinating his body, social anxiety etc etc but he's not autistic. I acknowledge those are autism traits. but he's just a neurotypical Kryptonian you guys. It's just circumstances" and it's like brother! what is the point of allegory anymore!!!!!!!
"He is and he isn't" Well ok sorry for your loss I think he's both an alien AND autistic. It's so weird to both admit it and deny it at the same time, this weird fence-sitting makes no sense to me idk 🤷‍♂️

I guess MaWS updates are gonna be a relatively regular thing from now on lmao. Anyway, correct interlac AND flight ring mentioned incident, 67 healed 12 revived. Copium levels for LoSH cameo rising at dangerous levels.
Other than that this is easily my new favorite episode so far. I'd go as far to say that this is the best adapted version of Mxy as well. He's insanely fun, I adore him. Like don't get me wrong, there's always a nostalgic appeal to the classic looney tuney Gottfried version that's on its own league (also, hello STAS references everywhere 👋), but they knocked it out of the park. And at times he was genuinely scary too, like actually kinda terrifying. Anyway, looking forward to the rest of the season more than ever.
