julia ducournau's "raw" was a brilliantly made horror film that i will never, ever, ever see again if i can help it. i barely got through it the first time around, and there were whole scenes that i had to watch with my eyes half-closed and my hands over my ears. same goes for "requiem for a dream", which i remember loving as a teenager but have absolutely no desire to sit through a second time.

Yo La Tengo - Deeper Into Deep Cuts
In case I don't mention it enough here — I do a "radio" show on Dublab every month as part of the Radio Free Aquarium Drunkard rock block. Every third Sunday night of every damn month! It's always a good time — me, Chad DePasquale, Jason Woodbury and a revolving door of special guests. The archives are here for your listening pleasure.
For May, I put together an hour's worth of Yo La Tengo deep cuts — b-sides, outtakes, live cuts, guest appearances, film scores, rarities, rejected Coca-Cola jingles. Good stuff, obviously, and the whole thing has been added to the main Aquarium Drunkard site now. (However, you probably want to listen to the entire four-hour RFAD on Dublab, since this month's special guest is Prairiewolf/Heat Warps dude Jeremy Erwin, who put together a monstrous mix of 1973-74 Electric Miles, all taped from the bandstand.)
This isn't really the big Yo La Tengo news this week, however. The BIG news is that Ira Kaplan will be throwing out the first pitch at a Mets' game in a couple of days. Kaplan has done many cool things in his lifetime, but I can only imagine that this is some kind of dream come true for him. Say hi to Mr. Met for us, Ira!

~Requiem for a Dream
This is my favorite movie of all time and has been ever since I saw it. It's one of very few movies that I consider to be flawless. The music, the editing, the four characters' stories all colliding in a cacophony of misery - it's perfection. (Ok, it technically has one flaw - Jared Leto is in it, but that has nothing to do with the movie itself)
BE WARNED THOUGH. The whole reason I found this movie is because I was reading lists of Most Disturbing Movies Ever and RfaD kept popping up, but it didn't have any of the gore/violence warnings the other movies did. So I watched it out of curiously, and learned very quickly that yes, this movie deserve a place on this lists.
It will drain you. It will feel like you're slowly being punched in the stomach. It will leave you laying on your bed wondering if you'll ever be happy again.
And I love that.
~But I'm A Cheerleader
Baby Gay Nightingale saw this when she was still figuring out her sexuality. Baby Gay Nightingale is extremely grateful to this movie for giving her wlw positivity when she had none in her life. (And Adult Gay Nightingale still thinks this movie is cute as hell)
~The Omen (1976)
I'm a horror movie fiend, and The Omen is one of the best out there. I love that everyone treated it seriously. I love that it was made in an age where practical effects were still done (the impalement scene still gives me shivers). I love that it's genuinely creepy. And I love that the DVD came with so many extras about how the film was made so I was able to satisfy my trivia craving. <3

This movie was just fun. I had such a good time watching this. It was spooky. It was funny. And it only. Has. One. Installment.

~Legally Blonde
This is my comfort movie. If I'm sick or in a bad mood, Legally Blonde never fails to make me feel better.

My username was me taking something from my ex, basically. This was one of the first long stretches we didn’t talk.
He would call me a brat affectionately, and I combined it with Baphomet (because I like the occult/practice) and boom.
I put the word “soft” in front because bratphomet was taken. And APPARENTLY on Twitch so I put a 94 on the end.

Requiem for a Dream.
I thought it was a fantastic movie with an even greater soundtrack, but I refuse to watch it for two reasons:
1.) As a former addict, it’s extremely hard to watch for me now. I could even watch it in college to analyze it in an essay, but as a post college adult I simply cannot.
2.) Since I am a huge fan of Perfect Blue, it would be an insult to the original work that RFAD basically stole from. If you didn’t know, the director was obsessed with Perfect Blue and stole a lot of that movie to sprinkle in his own films. So I refuse to watch it anymore.
