I truly love those moments when you revisit a piece of music you haven’t listened to in awhile but you had many times before and your whole self remembers every note like it was only yesterday. Every phrase is still etched into the fibers of your being, you lean into it and it feels like home.

I think that a big part of what discourages potential artists to not draw is because they're afraid of making "bad" art and I've had this opinion for years now but we need to normalize loving and hyping up our super super old embarrassing art. I never see any artist doing this and I think on occasion it would be fun to be like "look at this old oc I made when I was 10! I loved her so much then and I think it's really cute now"
#theres too many artists being embarrassed or hating their old art and like#have you forgotten the sheer joy that creating brought you back then?#how you would draw just bevause you LOVED creating those 'cringe' ocs or draeing wolves or your favorite characters?#love your roots. its how you got to where you are now.#and go BACK to them even! revisit what made you love art in the first place!

thank you for the ask! water is my favorite element so this was fun to think about :-)
for now, i would say:

and i've always really loved the metaphor of wet sleeves in japanese poetry so i'll choose two of izumi shikibu's poems that do that:

Might be showing my age a little bit here, but did any of you guys also play Super Princess Peach on the DS when you were kids? It was one of my favorite DS games when I was younger, and the impending release of Princess Peach Showtime has gotten me thinking about it again. I still have my cartridge for it, and I also still have the original case and instruction booklet that came with it.
Even after all these years it still works too! Can’t believe that this game is almost twenty years old!
#text post#not Kirby#I’m going to be really sad if Princess Peach Showtime ends up being bad#I don’t want to have waited almost two decades for another Peach game only for it to be terrible#I loved Super Princess Peach when I was a kid it was one of my favorite DS games#I think it was also one of my first DS games#the very first ones I remember playing on my DS are this Nintendogs New Super Mario Bros DS and Sonic Rush#I also played Kirby Squeak Squad and Super Star Ultra a lot as a kid Squeak Squad was my first Kirby game#I know people tend to not like Squeak Squad that much in the fandom but I like it even if the whole cake storyline is kind of silly#I played it so much as a kid that I think the soundtrack is permanently embedded into my brain lmao#I have a lot of nostalgia for the DS as a console and also for the Wii#those were like the two main consoles I played games on as a kid they were a big part of my childhood#I have a lot of happy memories of playing games on these consoles they both had a really good selection of games#not sure if anyone else gets this feeling when they revisit games from their childhood#but for me playing through my old childhood games again feels a little like visiting an old friend you haven’t seen in a while#there’s something comforting about it like it’s familiar and it brings back happy memories#I’m glad that I still have all of my old DS games it’s nice to revisit them now and then

the magnus archives is a 200 episode 5 season horror fiction podcast that i am incredibly neurodivergent about. you can listen to on basically every platform ever- it's on spotify, it's on youtube, and i think the rusty quill website has the episodes on there as well!!
i'll try to keep this spoiler-free LKDFJLSKD especially if you end up wanting to consume it (WHICH YOU SHOULD. ITS UNREALISTICALLY GOOD). the basic premise of the magnus archives is that there's an organization called the magnus institute that deals in the statements of people who have had dealings with the supernatural. at the beginning of the podcast, all the different statements seem like individual creepy stories but once you finish the podcast and then go back and relisten?? oh my god everything just clicks into place and makes so much sense its crazy
the writing is. incredible, to say the very least. every statement *and* the episodes that aren't statements are all delightfully creepy- there are rarely jumpscares and the kind of horror that tma goes for is so EDIBLE oh my god. it's a wonderful series to binge- fair warning though that it takes a bit to get in its stride, the first 20 episodes or so can feel a bit of a slog to get through at times but once you do, you will never want to stop listening.
everything loops back in on itself and there are statements in season three that give you context for statements back in season one and LSKDFJLKDSFJ. it is SO GOOD.
i would tell you everything about every member of the archival staff but i've already rambled on a fair amount so. jonathan sims time!!
jon sims, the newly appointed head archivist of the magnus institute, is the main character. and this guy. THIS. GUY. my fave character isn't usually the main character but jon is such a STUPID WET CAT. him and his ceaseless watcher bullshit. he has a super entertaining personality and a bunch of really cool character arcs and just LKDFSJDLK. best main character of any piece of media ever.
for protocol there are only 2 episodes out rn and anything substantial i have to say about it would be riddled with spoilers but i'll just tell you that it is also INCREDIBLE and i would die for samama khalid, alice dyer and gwendolyn bouchard. and i want to kill lena.

#it's one thing when i or others from (or who've at least been to) the midwest/south complain/joke about it#but everyone with zero (0) actual personal experience/connection to know what they're talking about who hits me w a 'how was racistland'#or 'bet you're glad to see something other than corn again' or whatever i'm setting on fire w my mind#actually honestly even the comments others from there make get old after like the 1000th 'you live in hawaii haha why would you come back??#idk dude could it perhaps be that I appreciate spending time with my family and getting to revisit the unique cultural/environmental things#that while you may still be constantly steeped in as a default to take for granted i've been desperately nostalgically craving for months??#literally something as simple as seeing patches of wild violets in my uncle's yard and commenting how they're so pretty and always one of m#favorite signs of spring. just to get 'oh yeah lol those are just weeds.' aaaaAAAAAAA#hell even just appreciating season distinctions at all would get like 'must be nice always having great weather/never shoveling snow' lol :
