Summary: After Iroh passes, Zuko reaches his breaking point. As he navigates the path through grief, he meets a kindred soul, and begins to heal in more ways than one.

omg omg i sure hope so, izumi deserves all the cute nicknames!! There’s a special place in my heart for it along with duckling and princess (bonus points: azula turned her title into a nickname)

"Sokka’s always known that Yue is an incredible dancer, but she never fails to impress him when he gets the chance to see her in action. She's an ethereal vision in her long chiffon dress - ever the picture of grace and elegance as she twirls in fluid movements from one side of the stage to another. The embroidered fish on her skirt swim and dance through the air around her, capturing the amber light of the sunset on their fins as she goes.

sharing another retgmt teaser because you can't stop me !! have another lil sokka + izumi moment <3
"So...how was school?"
Sokka peeks at Izumi in the rear view, and she shrugs. "Fine."
“Just fine? You wanna talk about it?”
“I didn’t need any breaks today,” Izumi says proudly. “Even when I got mad.”
“Oh, that’s good— wait, what happened?”
Izumi fidgets with Druk’s wings, flapping them back and forth. “Hua Min and Maahir wanted to play house at recess, and I didn’t want to. Well I did, but I didn’t want to play it the way Hua Min wanted to play.”
The names aren’t familiar to Sokka— they must be kids in her class or something, but Izumi keeps rambling before he can ask. “She said I had to play the Mommy and I said we didn’t need one— I said we could both play the kids and that Maahir could play the Daddy. Or I would play the Daddy if he didn’t want to. But then Hua Min got mad and said I couldn’t play with them anymore if I didn’t want to play her way.”
Sokka tries not to smile, utterly fascinated by the playground politics of a bunch of five year olds. Oh, if only life could be that simple again. “That doesn’t sound very nice.”
“Mm-mm,” she agrees. “And I told her that not everybody has a Mommy, and she said I was lying.”
“What did you do?”
Izumi meets his eyes in the rear view, her mouth curling into a smile. “I told her to shut up.”
Sokka shouldn’t laugh. He really shouldn’t.
But he can’t help it, not after all the times Izumi berated him and Zuko for doing the same thing. He quickly pulls himself together— this is supposed to be one of those parenting moments, right? It certainly feels like one.
“I’m proud of you for sticking up for yourself,” he says, “but you probably shouldn’t say that. I mean— I get it, but still. Next time someone makes you mad, just walk away or find your teacher to help.”
She sighs. “I know. Miss Ty Lee made us apologize to each other. And anyway, me and Maahir found a bunch of worms by the sidewalk after that, so we built them a house with sticks and…”
Izumi hugs Druk to her chest, looking out the window. She carries on about the rest of her day— about worms and art class and the yummy bento she had for lunch, and Sokka is more than happy to listen, fondness filling his chest with every word.

you've given me plenty just by reading my story and sending me so many sweet messages, I appreciate every single one of them. I know we're just a couple of people talking back and forth on this little corner of the internet but they really do make my day <3
and maybe it's just the social worker in me but your message didn't bother me at all, if anything it just made me feel good knowing that something I wrote actually meant something to someone. I've put a lot of love and work into this fic so I'm just glad it resonated with you. and re: the video, I LOVE it! I love art therapy so much. If I were ever to become a therapist I think that's the route I'd want to go. I could definitely see my artist!Sokka doing something like this in retgmt.....I am thinking....many thoughts.....
