Ren x Gakushu: Nightmares
Ren was standing in the Chairman's office, watching the man pace around him, Araki, Seo, and Koyama with practiced, measured steps. His words were almost entirely unintelligible, but his voice was just like always. The same eerie, low tenor that made his skin try to crawl off his body, like he suddenly had some kind of flesh-eating disease.
Suddenly the monster struck. A huge fleshy mass with eyes so big that they overlapped one another on its face. A mouth so wide and sharply fanged that it could swallow anyone whole and shred them apart in its jaws anyway. Before he knew it, there was an agonizing sting at the back of his head and the better part of his back. Ren was somehow thrown against the wall, pain tearing against his sternum and surrounding ligaments making it nearly impossible to breathe. The others were no different, as if they were flung just as woefully unprepared into the same MMA fight that he was in.
Then he realized all of their bodies hadn't even moved.
For all intents and purposes, their minds had been violently punted from each of their bodies, leaving them as empty shells that did nothing but chant an insatiable desire to kill E-Class. If Ren didn't have trouble breathing before, he was all but suffocating now. It only got worse when Gakushu reentered the room, only to call out to Ren and the others in horror. The mix of anger, disgust, and outright fear with which he stared at his father and his pet beast nearly wrenched his racing heart clear out of his chest.
“Gakushu, please… I'm right here…”
He forced his ghostly form to stand up. Dizziness spun his vision every which way. His shaking feet didn't feel anything close to steady as he tried to stumble toward his friend. The monster over the principal's shoulder only pounced again, painfully crushing his throat in its clawed grip as he could only face that menacing, unnatural grin. Darkness was beginning to dot his vision as it blurred with tears. He reached helplessly for his best friend with whatever vanishing strength he had left, as it all went cold and dark and --
Ren's eyes shot open with a gasp, heart pounding and breathing as if he'd just endured one of Gakushu's soccer games. He lay frozen and tense in his bed, clutching his bed covers and staring at nothing but his own bedroom floor as he slowly willed himself to calm down.
After he finally deemed himself calmed from the nightmare, (and telling himself that No, panic-brain, my blazer that I keep hung on my door is not a monster that's here to kill me) he sat up in his bed and checked the time on his alarm clock.
Only a few minutes after 3 o’clock, in the morning.
Ren grimaced to himself, running a hand through his stupid bedhead. Either Seo or Koyama would probably laugh about some kind of joke related to the time that he’s almost certain he’d rather not hear. However, he just thought it was too darn early to be up, even with something like a very graphic memory/nightmare to blame.
The principal monster from his nightmare flashed behind his eyes, in its own twisted "speak of the devil." What better way of being told by one's own brain that going back to sleep at that moment was not an option?
…Maybe a cup of tea or something warm (and uncaffeinated) would settle him down enough to help.
With a sigh, he got out of bed, pulled on a shirt, and headed to the kitchen.
He knew the house well enough that he didn't have to turn on the lights. He knew every place where the floors creaked, exactly where to stick to the walls and where to simply keep a light foot. The tiny nightlights in the halls kept it just visible enough that one didn't have to stumble around in complete darkness.
Many years ago, traversing his house at night was a game to Ren. One where his eyes sported beams of light to help him see. A game in which the dark wasn’t a monster to fear, but his playmate.
When he reached the kitchen, he breathed a soft sigh of relief. He grabbed a mug from the dish cabinet, but before he could do anything else, he noticed a light.
Light that was coming from the living room TV, partly shadowed by a figure on the couch.
Ren had a feeling he knew who that was. Guess I’m not the only one having a rough night.
With that in mind, he grabbed a second mug before pulling the jar of dried chamomile from the back of a different cabinet, fixing some tea with it.
The person on the couch didn’t respond to any noise he made, which meant one of two things: he was either quite aware of his presence and simply waiting for Ren to reveal himself, or he was out of it to the point of somehow not noticing the brunette was even there.
With someone like Gakushu Asano, there was no in-between with those two possibilities.
The moment the tea was ready, Ren poured it into the two mugs, a small voice in the back of his mind reminding him to put some sugar in Gakushu’s mug. He likes his tea sweetened a little. It’ll help him calm down more easily if he’s tense or had a nightmare, and right now he's possibly both.
He glanced at whatever he was watching on TV, which was turned down so low he couldn’t quite hear it. A documentary: his go-to for calming down from a bad dream. Crime or historic ones usually mean something relatively tame. But this one’s a nature documentary; he only goes to those things when it’s really bad.
The taller boy took a deep breath before heading over, humming a familiar tune and making sure to seek out the one floorboard he knew would creak. A word of advice from a friend, so as to not scare him once in his line of sight.
The redhead made an almost unnoticeable jolt before bright purple eyes met his. (So he really was out of it to a point he didn't know I was there, or at least hyperfixating on the TV.) He was wrapped in a throw blanket and had his legs laid across the length of the couch; he was probably planning on sleeping there if he was able to calm down enough.
“Ren… How long have you been up?” he asked, shifting around to sit properly on the sofa.
He chuckled, setting down the mugs on the coffee table until he was sitting down beside his boyfriend. “Obviously not as long as you.” His smile became a frown when he got no snarky response. “Nightmares keeping you up, too, huh?”
The shorter boy only nodded once, taking his mug when it was offered. “I hoped to be able to sleep again, after getting my mind off of it… And I didn’t expect to be discovered."
Ren hummed, sipping his own beverage. "…It was the brainwashing incident on my end… Araki saying it felt like an out-of-body experience was pretty accurate."
The ginger didn't seem too surprised. "…It was partially that exact incident for myself… and also the immediate aftermath of the pole-toppling match. I still find it hard to forget how badly Kevin and the other exchange students were injured, because of him… it was so severe that they all had to return to their home countries, once they'd recovered enough to do so."
The others didn’t hear much of that when it happened beyond when the paramedics showed up at the school. At the time, they all knew better than to ask while the wound was still fresh. Then again, it wasn’t like he would’ve been coherent enough to elaborate on the situation anyway, given how he fell asleep on the ride home.
"Least they don't have to worry about him hurting them again now…" he replied finally, "or anyone, to be honest. Especially not you." He pulled the strawberry blond boy into his side. "I think you remember well enough… how worried I was when he hit you in front of everybody."
The shorter boy’s exhale reverberated with exhaustion as his head drooped on his lover’s shoulder, followed by the sound of him emptying his mug. “Not as much as I wish I did… but at the same time more than I care to admit. It’s exhausting just thinking about it.”
The brunette smiled sadly at the sheer amount of fatigue in his tone, giving his shoulder a squeeze before finishing his own drink. "All the same, we can say that we're safe from him, and that in itself means a lot… By the way, I would've been alright with you coming over to my room after you woke up from your nightmare."
That only earned him a sleepy, yet sour look. "Why would I do that? I'm not a toddler, Ren."
The brunette snickered, using a thumb and index finger to get the other to face him. "Maybe not, but it's not childish to be afraid or need someone else, even for just a little company. Haven't you felt any better since I came out here?"
Gakushu tried to avert his face. "I suppose you could say that…"
Begrudging victory; I'll take it.
He smiled as he leaned in to kiss the shorter boy. He slipped his tongue in easily, tasting the chamomile's aftermath and practically feeling the remnants of Gakushu's tension and traces of his own nightmare disappear into the documentary's white noise. The ginger all but melted into his arms, the long and lazy kiss bearing down on his eyelids with sleep in a wave of honeyed warmth. Pulling away showed a pair of hazy purple eyes struggling to open again, on an adorable, blushing face.
“I love you, Gakushu; sweet dreams.”
The shorter boy gave a slow, cat-like blink, snuggling further against the taller boy. “Hmm… love you too… Ren…”
Ren chuckled at his slurred speech as he took Gakushu's empty mug from his hands, placing it and his own mug on the coffee table. Afterwards he turned off the TV, pulling Gakushu along as he shifted them around, until they were now both laying sideways on the couch, with a red-haired head on his chest. He managed to resituate the throw blanket over them both, draping long arms over his beloved; one settling across his waist, the other scratching his scalp in rhythmic circles.
He leaned into the crevice between the couch cushion and backrest with a contented sigh. With the weight and warmth of his boyfriend in his arms and the steady whispering breeze of breath in his ears and over his chest, the image of the former principal and the big-eyed monster was nothing more than a fading memory. They were both safe here, in this homey little bubble. Pressing a final kiss to his boyfriend's crown, he laid his own head down and closed his eyes, letting sleep carry him away on a far more welcoming cloud.
It wasn’t the first time they had such nightmares, and it may well be far from the last, but for now, they could sleep without fear, and that was enough.

Introduction
Taiga’s grandfather was a Dutch shipowner who made most of his fortune in the Dutch enclave of Dejima during Rengaku. He wedded his only child, a daughter, to a rich Japanese merchant way older than her but who could help him establish his commercial domination.
Taiga spent most of her childhood in Japan until her father’s death. After that, she sailed with her mother to Holland to return to her grandfather. Taiga’s mother died regrettably of typhus during the journey - now her only family was her grandfather, but to her, he was a perfect stranger...
She settled to his house, and quickly found out how much of an irascible man he was: short-tempered and violent, he couldn’t stand being contradicted, which means he took it really badly when his granddaughter - who was a Hot-Headed too - retorted to him that no, she would not marry the rich heir of a printer and publisher who was well-known for his unconditional love for opium, alcohol and prostitutes.
Her grandfather saw red and threatened her: if she refused to obey, he would lock her in a convent where she would spend her entire life! Neither choice sounded good for Taiga, so she decided to run away and sailed to England: here, with a whole sea between her and her grandfather, she would be safe...
When her ship docked to Twinbrook, she decided to not go further and settle in this town. Her grandfather was very cheap and would only give her his own mother’s dresses to wear, because there was no way he would spend a penny on fancy outfits. So there she was: a foreign girl who only spoke Japanese and Dutch, dressed like an old lady with dusty old clothes that used to be fashionable half a century ago, with no possessions but a bag to sleep in - the only thing she had time to grab in her flight.
Tumblr media
She started living la vie de Bohème. She would spend her days in Twinbrook Community Gardens harvesting vegetables and fruits that she would eat or sell in seasonal fairs.
Tumblr media
Life was hard and lonely. Since she did not speak English, Taiga had almost no contacts with Twinbrook residents, who only knew her as “the young greengrocer”. She slept on the outside, under the stars: it was summer so nights were not cold, and she tried not to think about the imminence of autumn. She still had a few month to save enough money to be able to spend the winter...
Tumblr media
She managed to save a bit of money, but when autumn came up she only had half of what she needed, and there were less much potatoes, lettuces and tomatoes to harvest and sell... One day, she had nothing to eat anymore and had to register to a pie eating contest in order to put something in her empty stomach. She didn’t win, but she didn’t care: at least she had a free meal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since she couldn’t garden anymore, she started to work in the park as a city worker for a few pounds a day.
Tumblr media
One day, she was raking leaves in the park when she found a chipmunk near the bin! She befriended it, and soon she was carrying her chipmunk everywhere!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Winter came soon enough. She could not sleep on the outside anymore, so she found an empty building in the community garden where she could stay for the night and not freeze to death.
Tumblr media
That’s where she spent her whole winter, when she was not working in the park or dumpster diving in order to find things to sell, with only her chipmunk to end her solitude.
Alas, this friendship couldn’t last forever, and one morning, when she woke up, the chipmunk had run away.
One day, she saw a real estate poster in the park indicating the sell of a plot of land for a derisory sum. The deal was too wonderful to be true, and Taiga ran to the city hall to have a clear assessment.
Tumblr media
She was told that no one wanted to buy this land because of its marshy ground: one would need to drain the swamps in order to build something on it! Taiga had managed to save enough money. There were no way she would miss this opportunity: she bought the land. Finally she had a place to call home.

Shades, Ammoconda, and Beholster?
Shades - What makes something cool to you? (Caleb)
“Being cool isn’t about flaunting power or money but sending a message. You show what you’re capable of while putting on a show for everyone watching. People like Rengaku and these Powder Keg guys had the right idea of what cool is. They combine form with everything that embodies cool.”
Ammoconda - What’s your favorite food? (Me)
With me, you can never go wrong with a burger. Veggie, extra meats, BBQ, bacon, spicy, doesn’t matter. I’ll eat them all.
Beholster - What would you do if you had multiple arms? (Renza)
“Y’know, while I was tracking Caleb through Ishgria, I ran into this multi-armed demon who just kept repeating a single phrase and attacked me. While I managed to fend it off, it was hard keeping up with all those swinging weapons. If I had multiple arms like that demon did, I’d just learn how to fight with them like I have with my two arms now. I could use some of them to cast spells and fight up close with the rest.”

Ren x Gakushu: Safety
For all his life, Gakushu could never hope to feel safe around his father. He lived in a classroom practically all his life, with a brutal teacher always looming over his shoulder. Usually, neither would even bother talking to each other aside from a few less-than-friendly lessons he supposedly had to learn.
As of late, the rise of Class 3-E has been seriously getting under the principal's skin. He's been twisting into some kind of human abomination of a monster, right in front of his own son.
Gakushu couldn't even look at his father without remembering the terror of seeing him that way. It made his skin crawl like bugs scuttling all over him; an itch that he couldn't get rid of if he scratched his skin off.
After fearing for his own life while the four exchange students were positively flattened, all he could force himself to do was run away. Run away and find help for the fallen giants in that sparsely-decorated office.
Ren and the others were waiting patiently for him down by the track after he left the building, directing the paramedics he contacted to the crime scene inside. He heard his best friend offer a nice dinner to lift their spirits and latched onto his voice, if only to try and slow down his heart and recover his composure.
He was stopped when he noticed the dusk-bordered shadow stopping in front of him, and a hand resting on his shoulder. He looked up to meet concern in warm, olive eyes -- a welcome change from the terrifying violet eyes he sometimes wished he never inherited. "You look pretty shaken up, Gakushu. Something happen while you were in the principal's office?"
Sometimes Gakushu really... didn't like how observant Ren could be sometimes. And how easily he could fall under the taller boy's "influence," for lack of a better term.
The brunette glided through his impenetrable walls like a ghost, and he has done so for years. With the heart-pounding adrenaline wearing off and making him feel even more sluggish than usual, he couldn't even respond. The other's presence might've only made it worse.
At the very least, the other three weren't nearby to see him this way.
"...You want to spend the night?" asked Ren.
There it was. The way Gakushu's best friend never made a move to pry when he fell silent like this. Maybe he knew, -- the ambulances coming for the exchange students were by no means subtle -- maybe he didn't. But with that familiar tone, he simply asked what he had so many times before.
A night at the Sakakibara house, where it felt more like home than his own house could ever be. A night somewhere safe would probably be for the best. He simply nodded, seeing Ren's smile as he quietly led him to where his family car awaited them.
Ren chuckled at how tired Gakushu must've looked. "Think you can stay awake through dinner?"
The tension dropped at the small semblance of a laugh, and the lump in the ginger's throat became a flutter in his stomach.
"I'm... I'll be fine..." he responded quietly, gently being ushered into the car with the small circle of friends he made.
Having sat down let the drowsiness kick in full force. He thought he heard whispering around the soft hum of the vehicle, and soft shushing.
Ren's arm stayed around his shoulder, slowly pulling him into a more comfortable position. For the first time, he felt he could drift off without any nightmares, in the arms of someone who radiated all the things he never knew he needed.
Safety... Warmth... and maybe, just maybe... Love...

caleb w/ last 5 fighting alza masta!
Since I took so long, have the full thing with both possessed Rahnas and Alza Masta’s soul at the Resurrection Furnace.
Possessed Rahnas
Battle Intro: “So this is the brother of Karna Masta. One of the Imperial Gods from before the Divine Ten. With the true power of summoning created by your brother, I shall strike you down.”
Victory: “I’m sorry Rahnas. I don’t know your entire history, but that never meant you had to die.”
Half HP: “Even when contained inside a human, this strength is overwhelming. Is this how they felt back in Ishgria?”
Low HP: “Damn it all! I can’t die here for the sake of everyone here, for the sake of humanity and everyone else who lives in fear of gods like you.”
Defeat/Death: “Everyone, strike now! Don’t let him leave alive. And please tell Lin I’m, I’m, I’m sorry.
Assist: “Forget about me?”
Taunt: “I’ve killed your brother, Alza Masta, and I hope your ready to join him in death.”
Reacting to Taunt: “Come on, Karna Masta gave better trash talk then you did and he barely spoke at all.”
Flee: “Squad, cover me. I need to back out for a sec.”
Reacting to Flee: “Is the big bad god scared of the little human?”
Tie (Both die): “Guys tell Lin I’m sorry and if you meet a woman named Renza asking for me, tell her what happened. She deserves to know.”
Perfect Victory: “Rahnas lacked the ability to summon, did you really think he could’ve effectively channeled your power?”
Low HP Victory: “It’s over at last. Can I stop being the one forced to fight all the gods now?”
Finishing Move: “This is the problem. There’s always a god who wants to rule the world. We have no need for gods like you, for gods of death! ENSKYBAN ANNIHILATION!
 Theme
Alza Masta’s Soul
Battle Intro: “I should’ve known there was more to you than destroying whatever body you inhabit. Then I will destroy your very soul.”
Victory: “Now that I think about it, I don’t really have a way to destroy a soul. I should destroy this temple so Alza Masta can’t use it to resurrect again.”
Half HP: “So this is your power in its entirety. Not as intimidating as your brother I must admit.”
Low HP: “I knew I should’ve investigated with back up.”
Defeat/Death: “Tilith, run. I’ll hold him back for as long as I can while you assemble the others. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”
Assist: “For an omnipotent god, you sure can’t keep track of me.”
Taunt: “You sure you don’t have any of your power sealed elsewhere? Karna gave me a much tougher time than you are right now.”
Reacting to Taunt: “Big talk from the god I killed not one week ago.”
Flee: “Cover me! I need to heal.”
Reacting to Flee: “Of all the gods I’ve met, not one has ran like you, so congratulations on being the first god in history to run from a human.”
Tie (Both die): “So you copped my annihilation move and you can’t even survive using it. Wait, what’s this feeling? ARRG!” (Remember 5 UBBs or his final move is an insta-kill)
Perfect Victory: “After journeying all the way over here to investigate this place, I’m sort of underwhelmed.”
Low HP Victory: “I swear I would be safer joining a demon slayer squad then fighting all these gods all the time. At least demons stay dead when you kill them and their spirits don’t run off to be resurrected.”
Finishing Move:  “One of the first weapons I made was based on a design left behind by the warrior Rengaku. What better sendoff than killing a god? GRAND FINALE! CRACK THE SKY!” (Caleb would make that weapon from his first incarnation and sacrifice it to kill Alza Masta)

In addition, the young summoner wished to arm himself for any situation and started forging various arms and armor, some being modified designs of weapons wielded by figures of the past. Recently rumors have been afoot of a relationship between Caleb and a member of the Logistics Support Department, but any proof has not yet been brought to light.
Notes:
Evolves with the use of Rubble of Enskyba, obtained through the first clear of Forced Closure (GQ: Caleb)
Tumblr media
Rubble of Enskyba:
A dark red, molten stone from the ruined settlement of Enskyba. Used to evolve the Mock unit of Caleb. This stone hails from a settlement razed by a heavy demonic invasion that left the land tainted with demonic blood, magic, and the memories of those slain. When Noel received a sample, he notice a resonance between the stone and the Mock unit of Caleb. Afterwards, he and Rhynt of the Imperial Library refined the stone and amplified the memories and magic within. Any person holding onto the stone for too long would be overcome with a sense of dread and terror, a remnant of the extinguished lives and their feelings moments before death.
