Honestly, and I’ll always resent the filmmakers for this, I think that had the movies kept Severus and Remus’s scenes/moments together, Snupin would’ve been a more popular and—for the lack of a better word—noticed ship. The films have also removed a lot of scenes that are vital to learning more about Snape’s relationship with the Marauders, and they practically reduced Snape to “hating Professor Lupin for no reason.” As I was saying, there are things in movies that simply cannot be conveyed nor executed properly through text. When you read mentions of Severus and Remus in the same sentence—for example, “Was he imagining it, or were Snape's eyes flickering toward Lupin more often than was natural?”—you’ll just read it and move on. However, seeing the books being brought to life in the HP films can sometimes give you a different perspective.
Imagine in movie form: Snape continuously glancing at Remus (who was chatting with Flitwick) to the point where Harry notices, the awkwardness in the scene where Snape brought the potion to Remus while Harry was there, Remus always talking to and about Snape in a pleasant manner, the mention of Snape immediately catching Remus’s attention and leading to him listening in on Harry and Arthur’s conversation about Snape’s loyalties, Remus saying that he neither likes nor dislikes Snape and that they might never be “bosom friends,” Remus sticking up for Snape to Harry, Remus always addressing Snape as “Severus,” and much more. I don’t doubt that Alan Rickman and David Thewlis would’ve absolutely nailed it.
I’m definitely not saying it would be a very popular ship (it’s still a ship that includes Snape and we know how butthurt this fandom can get over him), nor am I saying any of the scenes I’ve mentioned above are necessarily proof of anything, but I think it would attract more people’s attention.

FANFICTION REVIEW
"The Rat and the Snake" by @artemisia-absinthium-blog
I finished reading this story, the first part, yesterday and I must say that it was a great discovery.
It's a very interesting What if that investigates what would have happened if Snape had started actively spying for Dumbledore within the Order. He arrives to discover Peter's betrayal in time.
Snape is absolutely in character. I found him very credible. He is a tormented, dark boy looking for his place in a world that has trampled him.
The relationship with the members of the order is as tense as a violin string. The contempt that James has for him is palpable, as is Severus' difficulty in relating to Lily and little Harry. everything is just perfect.
Recommended story.

A bit from the Severus Snape thread that I did on X

Severus and Remus, aged 15, are studying together in an out of the way alcove on the sixth floor.
Severus, softly: My father used to love me. We used to go out together, he, my mother and I, to the park on weekends when he didn’t have to work. We would stay out for hours and hours. Mother would have packed a picnic. Father wasn’t drinking then, I remember that, and everything was good. Even if we lived in the shithole we did, things were good.
He trails off, staring out of the window he is sat beside. Remus has stopped writing, but is still staring at the notes and book in his lap.
Remus, just as softly: so what changed?
Severus, starts and whips around to face Remus who is now looking up at him. He smiles ruefully, and speaks very simply, as if this were normal.
Severus, resigned: I made a bubble. Out of thin air. At the dinner table, I giggled up a bubble.
Remus stares up at Severus for a long while, his gaze, pained and heartbroken, is trained on Severus’ resigned and accepting one. Eventually, Severus sighs and goes back to his notes, perfectly content with pretending he hadn’t spoken at all.
Remus let’s out a shaky breath, balls his fists up and rubs his eyes until the tears he felt threatening abated, then speaks.
Remus: you created magic borne of pure happiness, and your father scorned you for it.
Severus: yes. He’s never been kind or shown us love since.
Remus: what a vile man. You didn’t deserve that. You don’t deserve that.
Severus, after a beat of silence: I know.
They settle back into their work, letting the conversation die.
