👀 New surprise acoustic album coming up in a chapter near you~
I think we all know what spurred this surprise acoustic album this time 😂
Disenchanted - MCR, Regular | Acoustic
Stay Together For the Kids - Blink 182, Regular | Acoustic
Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls, Regular | Acoustic
How's It Going To Be - 3EB, Regular | Acoustic
All These Things That I've Done - The Killers, Regular | Acoustic
I chose these songs mostly on the regular versions, but some of them have pretty great acoustic versions ngl. I really like that Stay Together For the Kids and Disenchanted renditions, which I think use the real ripped vocals over acoustic instrumentals. And I actually prefer the Boyce Avenue version of Iris than the actual acoustic version from GGD. But for How's It Going To Be and All These Things I've Done, I really adore the originals, even if they lend themselves well to acoustic versions.
Also yes instead of talking about his feelings in a mature and calm manner, Gojo instead runs off and makes an album about it instead 😂 tbf using art as an outlet is actually a very healthy thing to do, but so is talking to your partner about your internal struggles.
But I find it very in character of him to struggle to put his own feelings into words, or rather, to express them outwardly and actually speak and vocalize them to others in a normal way, and turn to music instead. Unlike Hawks - who is more of an action guy and even in his POVs shows how he feels through his actions rather than introspective monologues - Gojo's actually your classic Tortured Poet (see what I did there lol) who has a lot of Thoughts™, even if he's horrible about expressing them and regularly ignores them. So in his own way, he's trying to communicate a lot through this album - to the whole world, but also to Hawks specifically.
Tbh this album is probably Gojo's most 'personal', or at the very least, as personal as you can get when you never wrote the songs to begin with lol. But idk, my millennial is showing here but there was always something so personal to making mixtape CDs for yourself or for others. You might not have wrote them, but it says a lot that you chose them to define yourself, you know?? Anyway I digress, moral of the story this is actually Gojo reaching out in his own way. And tbh, it's kind of a summary of his life too. A lot of times I pick songs for this fic mainly just because I like the way they sound, with no real meaning to them, and that's canon too as Gojo picks his songs for the Vibes™, but for this album noooope.
Disenchanted - Going to be crowned as the quintessential 'Dabi' song. Literally all about being a disenfranchised and disenchanted youth who sings away his angst and the chorus is 'If I'm so wrong, how can you listen all night long?' This is basically the summary of how sad teenage Dabi felt and why he turned to both music and villainy
Stay Together For The Kids - So on the nose it's not even funny, but I adore that guitar riff in the beginning. And while Gojo's parents didn't divorce in either of his lives, I still feel this resonating with him because of the way his youth was ruined by the adults who were supposed to love and care about him, in both lives. And yes, when the Endeavor reveal drops people are going to be questioning this song.
Iris - Yes, this is his pining song. First for Suguru, but then takes on a new meaning with Hawks. Yes, it turns all the Sixwings fans into a sobbing mess every time. Really though more than being a love song about either Suguru or Hawks, this is hi trying to convey his own feelings with lines like 'yeah you bleed just to know you're alive'/'when everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am'
How's It Going To Be - Known to Sixwings fans as the 'breakup/makeup' song. Like yeah it's about Sixwings breaking up, but it's also Ru-kun shouting to the world that he wants to get Hawks back. It becomes infamous for it. When No Scrubs finally goes on their massive Taylor Swift Era's-esque tour he'll play this and Iris back to back and have the whole stadium bawling. Ngl this is my favorite 3EB song, so it had to go in this fic somewhere. I love how it starts mainly soft and acoustic and at the climax the full band kicks in and Stephan Jenkins just starts belting 'I wanna get myself back into you, the soft dive of oblivion'
All These Things That I've Done - If Disenchanted is Dabi looking back on his life/past and all the anger and sadness he sees there, then the final track on the album is about coming to terms with himself and trying to accept who he is, and look towards the future. Huge theme for he next arcs/final fic in this series. I actually always thought the line was 'these changes ain't changing me, the gold-hearted boy I used to be'... but it's actually cold-hearted, which kinda totally changes my narrative for this song so I'm pretending it's gold-hearted 😂

Okay, I have kind of an offbeat take on whole "tiktok kids not understanding why AO3 doesn't have an algorithm and recommendations" thing.
No, AO3 definitely does not need an algorithm and we don't want one! And yes, there definitely is something concerning about data collection and algorithmic recommendations becoming so normalized that a whole generation thinks a website is broken when it doesn't have them, and plenty of people have written good posts about that so I'm not going to rehash what they've said.
But I also want to ask, is there a need (or even a desire) that's going unmet here, and if so what is it?
Because there is such a thing as decision paralysis, especially in a large fandom. Hell, I've experienced it myself in recent years, moving from a small fandom where I like a lot of rare ships to a bigger fandom where I like a lot of ships that are popular. The search results can be overwhelming even when you know how to use advanced search and filter for what you like. (Which I do! I'm an old millennial who's been using AO3 for a long time, I know how.)
You know what's great for finding fics to your taste? Rec lists. Rec lists from friends with similar interests. Rec lists from people with similar tastes. Rec lists that happen to cross your dash and catch your eye and make you think, "Oh, maybe I'll check that out!"
I do find a lot of what I read just from doing my own searches, but sometimes it's just really nice to hear, "You should read this, it's great, I think you'll really like it, here's what it's about."
And while I know rec lists are still a thing... I feel like I really don't see them as much as I used to. I used to be in a fandom that held a monthly "Rec Day" on the first of the month, and I loved that, and participated enthusiastically for a long time, but eventually the organizers moved on and people stopped doing it. Over on dreamwidth, where we don't have reblogging, I try to make regular rec posts with what I've been enjoying in fic and fan art. Lately I've been thinking I'd really like to get back into the habit here, too.
We don't need corporations tracking us and pushing automated recommendations at us, and we certainly don't need AO3 getting in on that.
But recs lovingly made by us, for us, to each other? Yes. Absolutely.
So here's me committing to doing more of that.

Hey!!! It's 🇧🇷 anon here! How are you?
I really liked the headcanons/oneshots of yandere Snake Fruit Cookie and Tainted Vanilla Cookie with a Dragon!s/o that has equal strength to the Longan Dragon!
Can I request yandere Longan Dragon with a Cookie!darling that can easily kill them but doesn't do anything because they doesn't know how to control their powers (but tries to learn)?
Hi Brazilian Anon! I’m doing a lot better, still sick but minimal symptoms.
I’m glad you liked it. Wasn’t my best work, but love is always appreciated.
Now, this request is kinda the opposite of canon storyline but it’s definitely something that should be thought about. I’m gonna make this cookie as a god because I think a regular cookie couldn’t overpower Longan. So in short, MC has about the same power as Sea Fairy or Millennial Tree.
Tw: Mentions of genocide (it’s Longan dragon we’re talking about ofc there’s genocide), unwilling deeds being done, scratches on the body (not self-harm tho), possible pronoun mistakes
Embrace the Anger
(Embrace the anger, Embrace it)
(Longan gets a banner this time because I already edited a yandere picture from before)
Tumblr media
Longan knew they were the strongest dragon. Pridefully using their powers to change Earthbread to their will. No one could stop them just by themselves, and even then Longan had numerous servants by their side.
They casually flew through the air, enjoying the wind as they wait for the right time to commit genocide.
Just as they were about to land a great force hit them. It was immensely strong, almost cracking their body into pieces.
Confused and Annoyed they went to investigate
On the beach of a random island stood a cookie with rubble and broken trees surrounding them. They seemed frustrated, kicking everything until realizing that’s enough to cause it to crumble it up.
Angered, they sit down and glare at the sea, watching the soda waves touch the shore.
“My, my, you must be quite the powerful cookie to be able to cause so much destruction.” Longan Dragon approached them in a calm manner.
“Yeah! And I can’t even control it!” The other cookie exclaims furiously, still staring at the sea.
Longan sits near them, keeping distance but enough to have a conversation. They observe the cookie, noting the small scratches that was near their ankles.
“Do you tend to injure yourself with the debris?”
“Yeah, it happens way too much. Sometimes, I even wish I wasn’t this powerful.”
Longan hummed in acknowledgement, playing with the sand that swallows their feet.
“It seems as though you need someone to teach you. Even the most minuscule advice can help immensely.”
“I don’t have anyone to learn from though.”
Longan looked back at them, wondering if they should help this cookie. Well they sure are powerful, so they are most definitely a part of the worthy.
“I may not have powers similar to yours, but I may be able to give some assistance in your ability to control.”
You whip your head at them in disbelief. Finally you had someone to teach you!
“Yes! I desperately need help!”
They nodded their head in agreement. Turning to fly once more.
“Oh, I haven’t introduced myself. My name is Longan Dragon. Pleased with your acquaintance.”
“I’m Y/n cookie! Nice to meet you! So when and where should we start?”
“I’ll meet you here at midday tomorrow, make sure to not be late. I hate having to be patient.”
They then soared off into the cloudless sky, unaware of you waving farewell.
——————————————————
The next day you arrived a little before noon. Longan arrived shortly after, looking more prideful than the day before.
You first started by demonstrating what your power does, which ended up splitting a nearby cliff. Then you got your first advice.
“I think the main issue is that you’re not controlling the flow of your power. Which is fixed by regulating the amount of energy you use.”
“I’ve been trying to do that but it doesn’t seem to do much.”
They sauntered over, gripping your arms. Flustered by the action, you freeze.
“I think you’re executing it incorrectly. Make sure to focus on the amount of energy you use, try to release little energy as possible.”
The first time it completely failed; by the fourth try it was a lot better.
“Wow! I’m already so much better! Thanks so much!”
They nod, face unmoving from the cold resting face.
After a couple of hours you managed to get the damage strong enough to only crack the cliff, but you had a long way to go.
You bid Longan goodbye, almost prancing in joy on your way home.
——————————————————
The days went by with you training once a week with Longan. You also practiced in your free time. Your feet were now rid of the scratches from the debris. You could do things without worrying about destroying them to pieces.
Longan however was slowly becoming unhappy.
It’s been almost three months since you’ve started to study under them; and in that short time period, they’ve started to want to be in your presence. It was a form of admiration. Your perseverance intrigued them.
You often failed the first half of the lesson. Breaking things every second that passes. Yet in the remaining half you manage to do everything almost perfectly. Doing such things in that matter is exhausting for the mind. So seeing you continue on despite the difficulty, it impressed the dragon.
The more you succeed, the faster the time will be up. Which means splitting apart from you.
Sure, you might still be ‘friends’, but Longan wanted to be more. They wanted you to rule the world beside them, you deserved it. You deserved to show the world your tremendous strength.
And that’s what Longan is going to do.
As the usual, you met up with Longan on the same beach. They were already there, standing upon the cream-colored sand.
“Did I keep you waiting? I hope not.”
“No, I arrived a minute ago.”
“Oh good! What are we gonna do today?”
They stilled, looking directly into your eyes. They then grab onto your shoulders, which caused you to squeal out of surprise. You then got lifted into the air, flying with immense speed.
“LONGAN DRAGON! WHA- WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” You yell, clinging onto them for dear life.
“Flying of course. I want to show you something.”
You managed to calm down, but the speed still made your body want to curl up into a ball. Then you saw the bewitching golden palace of Longan.
“Is that where you live?”
“Yes. Quite eye-catching isn’t it?”
They gently land, feet gracefully touching the smooth flooring of the entrance. They motion for you to follow, walking in large strides.
Golden gates open, revealing a grand throne room with jewels and fake eyes decorating the place. The eyes seemed to be almost staring at you, as if they’re alive.
“Lychee Dragon I request your presence immediately.”
Another dragon flies in, pink splashed everywhere around their body.
“Longan, are you ready?”
They nod, sitting on their throne to watch.
“What’s going on?”
“Don’t worry, it’s nothing bad. Just a little performance.”
“Over do it and I won’t hesitate to attack you.”
“I wasn’t going to anyway.”
Lychee’s staff then glows, and you felt fatigued right after. Slowly but surely your body collapsed on you, unable to keep you upright.
“Good. You may go now.”
Lychee leaves, mumbling complaints about not getting rewarded enough. Longan then turns back to you, eyes unmoving from your pitiful form.
“I know you may not understand now, but you will later.”
“Understand what? All I see is getting energy taken away unwillingly by a liar!”
They frown, eyes furious with rage.
“I did this for our future. I knew you wouldn’t want the obedient life, so I decided to let you get comfortable with it.”
“Our future? Excuse me, but I think it’s your future not mine.”
“It is ours. You’re going to be ruling the new world along side with me. I think it’s best for you to live in comfort.”
You barely managed to lift your body off the ground; rising to a leaning-sitting position.
“New world?”
“Yes, the world that I will create soon.”
They bend down and sit with you, grabbing your head and putting it against their chest.
“I’m doing this because I adore you. I want you to be happy with me. As your soon-to-be lover.”
“I don’t want this I want to be free!”
You struggled, but they only shushed you and started to caress your hair.
“Rest, my darling. You will need to recover the energy you lost.”
You tried to fight the hands that surrounded you, but it was no use. They lured you in, brutally well.
If only you had embraced the anger and learned by yourself.
——————————————————
Ppl don’t call me out on the Scaramouche reference. I couldn’t think of a better title.
This was interesting to write, sorry if it got long.

I think your (y/n or x reader) statement is really good, it definitely made me think. I only have tumblr again since last year and had last used it in 2016. At first I was totally overwhelmed because everything had changed so much. Fanfictios? Y/n's? Readers? Everything I saw here was something completely different from what I knew from Wattpad. Also back then I had tumblr only for gifs, lol. I thought I'd try this Y/N thing and I understand what's good and bad about it. I have rewritten so many of my fanfictions and ideas to y/n and have noticed how much potential is getting lost. Thank you for this insight! I will definitely write classic fanfiction again with characters I invented myself. But being actually able and write about those characters we like is really hard, cause after all we will never be able to know what they would actually be like.
As always I apologize for my grammar and stuff, sometimes I need to use a translator. I hope it’s not that messed up and hard to read. So thank you again for giving that insight. It really changed my sight on all of that. But I think we should also try to see both sides. For some is that writing style an escape, something that helps them to deal with life, keeps them going as well I guess. Not everyone is a good writer but everyone can be. After all we write for ourselves. We should write for ourselves and help each other if we can.
Greetings Kat ✌🏻
Glad you could find something useful in my rant. Your grammar is fine, don't sweat it in Asks.
One thing I'll point out though: "I will definitely write classic fanfiction again with characters I invented myself. But being actually able and write about those characters we like is really hard, cause after all we will never be able to know what they would actually be like. "
That's where that imagination that I mentioned comes in. As humans we were gifted with the ability to imagine scenarios that we would 'never be able to know' what they would actually be like. Authors (good ones) create well-written universal characters that their readers respond to; they can either love them or hate them. Sometimes authors create poorly written characters in their canon *cough*CairoSweet*cough* that serve as the foundation for better character development in fandom.
If you're writing your own character, you should probably write up a character profile and get to know your own character before unleashing them on others...if you don't have a sense of who they are, neither will your readers.
It is very hard for some people to write like writers and not Tumblrinas. That's why we also have that dialogue garbage that isn't 'writing fan fic', it's tapping out dialogue (usually bad, or unoriginal/been done elsewhere/usually a decade or decades before the author hit their teens dialogue). They can't write a scene between people beyond the dialogue. (That's where 100 word drabble practice comes in.)
None of it I can understand, since Millennials and Gen Z have been given the tools to become fantastic writers. They have a whole world of dictionaries, thesauruses, and FREE BOOKS to read and emulate. Writing in the style of your favorite author--exactly the assignment Mr. Miller gives in Miller's Girl--is actually a very great way to actually practice your writing. It's how I went from o.k. writer who could write dated Walt Whitman-like poetry to 'great' writer who could write timeless Ginsberg and cummings-like poetry in high school. I went from getting my poems rejected and ridiculed (it was all blind critique) to owning more than 1/4 of the published submissions (and the cover artwork) in my senior year.
But that's poetry. Before that I was writing just regular ol' smut, my style an amalgamation of the various authors I've read over the years. We are all amalgamations of what has come before us; except when there's 🗑️ out there and that's all you read, you become the amalgamation of 🗑️. So...let's follow your lead and not put out such vapid garbage. Amalgamate! But do it better.
Thanks for the Ask & good luck. 🫴🏽💕✨

10 Rad Black Money Experts To Follow Right the Hell Now
Rich and Regular
There’s a reason Julien and Kiersten’s blog is at the top of this list. If you’re looking to read one blog by a black couple seeking FIRE (financial independence, retire early), this is the one. They are exactly what’s on the box: charming, relatable, down-to-earth people who are also admirably transparent about their inspiring successes and rare failures. If I were building my fantasy neighborhood (which is like fantasy football, but for people who can’t leave their houses due to global pandemics), R&R would live no fewer than three doors down from us and we would catch all the neighborhood poop bandits together.

Rich Jones is a national treasure. His Paychecks and Balances blog is only rivaled by his podcast, The Mental Wealth Show. Some would say his swoon-worthy voice alone makes his podcast worth listening to, and they would be correct, yet they would also be fools! For this millennial money expert constantly delivers fresh takes on the real financial concerns of our generation. He is uncannily good at finding interesting voices to interview. (And I’m not just saying that because he had us on, though he did, yes we’re cool.)  More than half of the folks we’re highlighting today have been on his show.

After two weeks of stressing and planning and screwing around in chief architect, I came to the obvious conclusion that I should just make raised beds out of basic-ass pine boards. Here's all the research I did so you don't have to agonize over your potential project. All prices are from Lowes. Below is a cost analysis of my project, which would be for 512' long of raised beds (for a growing area of 1,000 sq ft). I had in-ground beds last year but a massive influx of bunny rabbits ate everything that they could, so I'm looking to lift my plants off the ground a bit.
Tumblr media
I was originally planning on using pressure treated 2x8s, but soon got sidetracked into cedar fenceposts and pressure treated landscape timbers, so here's what I eventually found:
Cedar fenceposts are great for a small scale garden. If you need 1 or 2 raised beds, I would recommend cedar fenceposts for cost and longevity purposes. If one piece gets damaged somehow, it's cheap and easy to throw in a replacement. They're incredibly cheap relative to other options, resistant to rot and moisture, beautiful, and can easily fit in almost any vehicle which can't be said for the dimensional lumber. Here's a build video for the most elegant fencepost raised bed I found. Downsides: the fenceposts are very thin, barely half an inch thick-- you can't sit on them or put too much pressure on them. They also require more bracing on the corners and in the middle, as well as a top-strip, as shown below. This is factored into the "Specialty Hardware Cost", and is calculated with pressure treated pine- using cedar for these pieces would look nicer (as below), but are much more expensive and some dimensions are out of stock. They're also a lot of work at scale. For my plan (to look good), I would have to cut off the dogear notch at the top for 280 boards individually, and put four screws each into 280 boards individually, which is an obscene amount of labor and hardware.
Tumblr media
Next up are Pressure Treated Landscape Timbers, which I first saw from a Millennial Gardner video where the tagline was "lumber dealers HATE this trick!". Which may be true, but screw manufacturers LOVE this trick. They look really pretty and the wood is extremely cheap, but they're short individually, so you would need to stack 3-4 on top of each other to get the look I'm going for. Most importantly though, these need long screws (50 cents to a dollar each) to connect two boards to each other every 24-48 inches PER layer, and additional rebar if it's being used as a retaining wall, which would be another $4 on every side. The wood is cheap and rot resistant, but the hardware costs creep in.
Tumblr media
Cedar boards are too expensive. Flat-out, they cost so much money it's insane. nearly $50 for a single 8' 2"x8" is inordinately expensive for a project like this. For the price of one miniature cedar bed, you could get multiple metal beds that will last decades instead. The final deliberation was between Yellow Pine and Pressure Treated Yellow Pine, and I'm deciding to go with regular untreated pine. The price is an extra 30% - 50% cost, and untreated pine should last (outside of the pacific northwest or florida) for 3-5 years without issues, while pressure-treated could last 10 or more depending on the conditions. Pressure treated boards leaching their chemicals into your food is mostly overstated, as arsenic hasn't been used in the process for 20 years now; although, I understand the reservations about using any chemical so close to food supply. The modern process apparently uses copper-based solutions and various fungicide for copper-resistant strains. I've included two cans of boiled linseed oil in the hardware costs for this to help protect them further, and I might find some kind of plastic or other barrier to protect the wood from direct soil contact to keep them going longer. I think I'm going with the 2x12s as well over the 2x8s, just because I like the idea of a taller bed if I'm just using one board. It's more expensive for sure, and the only thing I'm still deciding on. For the most part it's purely aesthetic, but some plants would prefer a bed larger than 8 inches, so that's why I'm leaning towards 12". It turns out that with the bulk discount that comes with 50 boards, 68 2"x8"s are the same price as 34 2"x12"s, but 4 inches taller. I might have to get some additional 2x4s for corner bracing, but this might be the way. I hope this info helps someone build a raised bed and start gardening, or help their garden become more successful (for cheaper). If I got anything wrong or if there are alternatives let me know, I'd love to hear anybody's thoughts.

2023 Year End List - #18
Tumblr media
18. The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We - Mitski
Main genres: Indie Folk
A decent sampling of: Slowcore, Alternative Country, Chamber Pop, Countrypolitan
Gonna admit something that could get me crucified in some spaces of the internet - Mitski is not my #1 contemporary "sad girl" in indie rock/pop, and I've never really 100% bought the hype.
She's definitely talented, and arguably the most likable, down-to-earth indie musician that has reached her level of fame. But Puberty 2 through Be The Cowboy and Laurel Hell, I've only ever found about two tracks on each of these records that I'd wanna revisit regularly (Haven't touched the fan favourite Bury Me At Makeout Creek or those first two records yet, so I could be totally missing out on her best material).
You see, "Your Best American Girl" and "Nobody" are excellent singles that have always deserved the hype they received, but then her records as a whole have generally been full of these songs that I would describe as "under-cooked" and sometimes too short for their own good.
This time around, however, I'm happy to express that I genuinely really enjoyed her latest LP The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We. Mitski's greatest qualities as a songwriter shine much brighter here than on recent past projects. Stripping everything down to intimate, slow-moving folk-country balladry plays to her greatest strengths - the way in which Mitski carries her melodies so delicately, like a broken bird when singing, and how clearly gifted she is at writing those melodies.
The display of painfully universal human emotions also permeates this record as much as any other Mitski project, but this time I feel that her songs are given more room to breathe, which allows the emotional gut punches to hit much harder.
This is most evident on the record's finest moment, a song called "Heaven" which, like all of the best Mitski tracks, is mostly about the shameless longing for the love of another human being, this time set to the tune of arcadian, countrypolitan-style string arrangements that flourish over a wistful promenade of reflections on her unbridled devotion towards a lover that is all too absent. This is the sound of her signature artistic style aging into a fine, full-bodied wine that I could very easily get drunk off of (and then, in true Mitski fashion, start sobbing uncontrollably).
There's also the thundering bittersweet triumph of "When Memories Snow", wherein Mitski expresses the desire to wipe clean all the traumas of the past, while achieving a sound that is close, familiar, and personal, yet also somehow larger than life as any 60s brill building production. That bold country orchestra is every bit as awakening to the senses as dunking your head in a bucket of ice water, and I also just need to take a minute to acknowledge the deeply satisfying chord progressions that manage to really seal the deal on making this track feel truly massive.
I also really appreciate the closer "I Love Me After You", an epilogue that gently sways and disappears into a hushed, forested midnight of bassy piano chords, low crashing cymbals, and sleepy guitar drones.
If you weren't fully sold on Mitski before in the same way that I wasn't, then this could very well be the record that gets you hooked. The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We plays to all of her strengths as an artist, and it really shows Mitski coming into her own as a seasoned musician who's capable of adapting to new sounds.
I'm still not convinced she couldn't make an even better record in the future if she continues in this direction as a songwriter. It's a bit slow to start, and the B-side heavily dominates the album, but this is her first record that I will be putting in my regular rotation, and a big highlight of the year for the Mitski diehards and longtime skeptics alike. So kudos to the millennial queen of sad girl indie.
8/10
Highlights: "Heaven", "When Memories Snow", "I Love Me After You", "My Love Mine All Mine"

Have you ever eaten with both fork and spoon, at the same time?: Well yeah, that's kind of how we eat everything in this part of the world.
When’s the last time you bled a lot?: When I had my period two weeks ago.
Have you ever watched a needle go into your own skin?: No, I always look away. I hate needles and can't stand to be around them lol.
Have you ever seen someone get a piercing/tattoo?: I was sitting right across my mom when she got her tattoo. Now she has a ridiculously high tolerance when it comes to pain, but seeing her clutch a pillow like her life depended on it and squeezing her eyes shut during her entire session scared me off from getting inked forever hahaha. If she barely got through it fuck knows what I would do once that needle meets my skin.
Are you currently full or hungry?: I'm actually a little hungry. :( But I'm feeling sleepy too so I don't trust myself to order food online now and stay awake long enough to wait for it.
Has a taste of something ever made you smile?: Yes, usually when it's food I find nostalgic or have happy memories with. Or if I've been craving it for too long a time.
When you’re done eating finger foods, do you usually lick your fingers?: I used to do this but at some point it started to feel just kind of gross so I don't anymore haha.
Who was the last person to hit you in the stomach?: I don't think I've ever been hit in the stomach, but what an unpleasant thought. I imagine I would retaliate.
Would you ever snap your cell phone in half, if you could get a better one?: No. Whatever happened to just walking into the store and buying a new one?
Do you think twenty-two is old?: Not at all, but I'm also probably the wrong person to ask. I know 22 is nowhere near 'old,' but in my own and very personal experience, turning 22 at the time I did felt like aging 100 years. I have no positive memory from when I turned 22, because it happened in 2020.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?: Astronaut, veterinarian, and firefighter.
Are you planning on going to college?: I did, and I graduated three years ago.
Do you know someone that is/was abused by their parents?: Yes, corporal punishment was commonplace here at least until my generation. I got so used to watching my cousin getting whipped by a belt that I just became desensitized to it at some point. Fortunately millennials took the hint when they started becoming parents and have stopped the practice completely.
Does your cell phone have a touch screen?: Yup.
Do you like strawberry and banana smoothies?: That sounds very nasty.
Would you cuss the person you hate the most out to their face?: I don't hate anyone.
Do you know someone that is mute, deaf or blind?: My great-grandma's caretaker was deaf mute. I haven't seen her in well over a decade though.
Have you ever spent more than two weeks in a wheelchair?: I don't think I've ever even sat in a wheelchair.
Have you ever watched static on the television for more than five minutes?: Nope, don't think so.
When you cry, do you hyperventilate?: It's happened before but it's not a regular occurrence. I don't think I've experienced hyperventilating since college. Which is good! That just means I have not felt that heavy ever since then.
Is tapioca pudding nasty to you?: I've never tried it but yeah I'm not a fan of how it looks.
What are you favorite word[s]?: Fuck.
Is there a lot of drama in your life?: Nope.
Five Gum or Juicy Fruit?: Juicy Fruit, mainly because that's the only one I've heard of and actually had in the past.
Do you drink straight from the bottle, instead of getting a cup?: If I'm drinking alone, that's when I have it straight from the bottle.
Have you ever been in a taxi?: Yup.
Do you listen to modern music or classic music?: Modern.
Is your keyboard/mouse wireless?: I have a trackpad.
Can you hook up your computer to your television?: I could; I just don't have the proper cords/cables for it since I've never had to connect my laptop to the TV. Plus I cast everything these days anyway, so.
How many times have you had the hiccups today?: I can't even remember the last time I had the hiccups...
Does weed smell good? Or no?: I'm personally not a fan.
Where do you see your closest friend in ten years?: Married, two kids, super successful and being very very very happy in her life.
What’s your favorite horror movie?: The Shining.
Pronunciation of your name, please?: Ro-bin.
Are/were you loud in class?: No. I hated the idea of being called out so I never chit-chatted with friends. Angela though liked whispering to me which always quietly bugged me because it always put me in danger of getting in trouble hahaha.
Do you cut out coupons but end up never using them?: I've never encountered coupons, not really a thing here.

The Post-Bisalp Diaries, Part Two: Survival Of The Tubeless
Happy Two Week Anniversary of me noping the fallopes!
When I was reading up on how others managed post-Bisalp before my own surgery, I saw suggestions like "take Gas-X for bloating", "use stool softeners so you don't 'strain' yourself", "have a heating pad for the shoulder pain", and so forth. They sounded helpful, and it was a good thing I had that stuff already on hand (for other reasons).
That said, here's what really helped me out during my recovery. ***DISCLAIMER*** Your mileage may vary, all bodies are different, and I sure as shit am no doctor or medical practitioner!
*Turmeric-Curcumin Pills*
It's what I first turn to when I get crap like PMS cramps or headaches. I do have ibuprofen on hand, but it's more of a last resort remedy for me. The ones I've been taking post-surgery are Gaia Herbs Turmeric Supreme, but I also have Terry Naturally's Curamin (regular strength) pills.
*CBD Stuff*
Thank goodness I live in a state where CBD products are legal to own. Tinctures and gummies, particularly the ones from Lazarus Naturals, have been a godsend.
*Probiotics*
I still took probiotics pre-surgery, albeit in food form (yogurt, sauerkraut, etc.) since I couldn't have supplements then. When I learned that I was given antibiotics during my surgery, I knew I needed to take probiotics later in the day; it's what balances out your digestive system after the antibiotics fuck with it. Maybe it could explain why, even if my appetite was reduced for the first few days, I didn't have bad gas. I took a high-dose probiotic (think the pills with over 40+billion cultures) in the first week, then, for the second week, went down to probiotics with no more than 25 billion cultures. And some low-sugar yogurt.
*Pedialyte Pops*
Like with many others who had a Bisalp, sore throat is a common post-surgery symptom. (It's the result of having a breathing tube down your throat during the procedure.) Though I had regular popsicles on hand, I ended up buying Pedialyte Freezer Pops as well as they also have electrolytes in them. And they're also fairly low sugar!
*Thrift Stores*
So I had to change up my wardrobe a bit for my recovery. A month leading up to my surgery, I got some jumpsuits, loose, high waisted pants with a comfortable waistband, slip-in shoes so I don't have to bend over and tie my shoes, and even a bed rest pillow in case I felt like a lazy-ass. Thanks to thrift stores, I got all that for a bargain. Who the fuck needs Wal-Mart?
By the way, because of my need to be active, and me fighting the fatigue during the first few days of recovery, I didn't use that bed rest pillow. I guess I may need it down the road, and it only cost me $5.
*Eating Low-Carb, Minimally Processed Foods*
Having been on Keto for the past few years, the diet has not only helped me shed blubber, but I've become more active from it. I can't say if eating low-carb/sugar-free foods and minimally processed foods helped my body heal quicker, but, save for the first three days after surgery, I never felt sluggish in my recovery.
*A Decent Landlord & Loan Deferments*
OK, forget the physical aspects of my recovery; it's the financial aspects that took the real beating. I'm able to receive Short Term Disability while out from work (I do not work from home and my job is very physical), but waiting for the payments have become a pain in the clit. I'm still waiting for them, and it just happens to be a holiday weekend right now. Just my luck! So, I like to give a shout-out to my landlord who was cool with me underpaying my rent for this upcoming month, and the few loan companies who I have accounts with that were able to postpone my payments so I don't go so broke to where I need to sell my sterilized ass on the streets for a few bucks. (Like, literally a few bucks--it's the going rate for old millennial ass.)
Also, a friendly reminder that just because one is childfree doesn't mean they got deep pockets. Some of those "I got to vacation in Italy last week 'cause I got no kids!!!!" posts you see on Reddit's Childfree subreddit are likely made-up as hell (it's Reddit, after all). Now that I think about it, I think I'm more of a WINK (What Income? No Kids) instead of a SINK at the moment.
Tumblr media
A Few Things I Got/Have That I Didn't Need In The End...
--GasX pills (I was never really gassy, and they were the 99-Cent Store version as opposed to the name brand, so I didn't lose money on that)
--Shoulder/Heating Pad (others have suggested it, but I only used it just once and that was because it was a cold night)
--stool softeners (I think the probiotics helped me out with this one)
--ibuprofen (took it once and it fucked with me. I'm used to the 200mg pills, but 600mg per pill?! Fuck no!)
--prescribed oxycodone (didn't even open that shit)
And A Couple Things You Don't Need To Buy...
--disposable underwear (the hospital will provide you with as many pairs as you need. I never bled, thankfully, but I was still given a few pairs.)
--anti-nausea patch (another thing the hospital will give you, but only if you request it. I could've saved myself $6 from the pack of anti-nausea patches I bought on eBay! *punches air*)
*****
Again, what helped me out post-Bisalp may or may not help the next person in recovery. If there's one thing I highly recommend that will help the next person recover from a Bisalp smoothly, it's having plenty of money so you don't have to worry about financial shit like me.
**ETA: Tumblr told me this is my 100th post here. I'd celebrate but I also outed myself as a broke bitch in the post, so...

What a fuckin horrible race, haven't watched the past ones of this season and when I finally decide to give it a go I get this??? This is horrible Stop trying to make fetch* happening is not going to happen
*F1 in the USA
Ok ok, post Miami GP thoughts under the cut because it got long lmao
I think Miami had so many missed opportunities... Like, you want to be cringe? Then fully market to the cringeness (is that even a word?). I'm talking: people making fun of your fake marina? Start selling t-shirts that say "I survived a swim in the marina at the Miami GP 2k22".
Instead they marketed the GP as this big exclusive festival, complete with A+ list celebs, with a side of racing. The whole vibe they were trying to sell completely missed the mark imho (honestly, a millennial with a tiktok account would have marketed it better).
Don't get me started on the track itself. I get that this is the first GP, things need to be smoothed out after the first year... But the selective hearing that everyone appeared to have towards safety? You got two drivers who had a shunt in the same spot, hard enough that both of them were not feeling a full 100% at the end of the race weekend, drivers complained about the lack of barriers etc. And race direction seemingly ignored the drivers concerns. But they sure busted balls about piercings and underwear because "sAfEtYY". Give me a break 🙄
The drivers were also so excited by the whole thing. Look at Russell's interviews about the track. I've seen more enthusiasm in a hostage ransom video.
Also, I know the organization of the GP slightly differed from regular GPs but I need to know if FOM was directing the cameras or if someone else took over. The TV coverage was abysmal at best. Show me what's going on between Lewis and George! Mick and Seb's squabble! Pierre committing crimes! Not [insert umpteenth shot of random celebrity here]. We did have some moments in an otherwise lackluster race but they weren't even broadcast in real time because we had to be subjected to another shot of David Beckham breathing. Not to mention a bazillion shots of women in bikinis in the swimming pool/on the yachts of the fake marina, but a shirtless Carlos could offend our delicate sensibilities 🙄
And lastly (and I have not seen one single person praising this moment) the loud police motorcade/escort was so tone deaf and unnecessary. I cannot believe they actually aired that, I'm still flabbergasted by the whole post-race shenanigans.
I'm not saying that F1 + United States is a bad combo. Texas is a fun race, if a little campy with all the cowboy and yeehaws going on 😂 but Miami totally missed the mark.

Little Questions That Improve Emotional Intimacy In A Big Way
"Emotional connection is how we build intimacy."
Kiarra Sylvester
Jan. 08, 2021 04:57PM EST
If you're the least bit wise, one of the first things you've learned about life is this: not all things that glitter are gold. And, because that phrase is applicable to virtually anything, let me be specific. In this case, I mean, you're sitting (stuck even) in the house with your significant other in the midst of a pandemic and boom, you realize you don't know them as well as you might have thought sans lockdown. This could be for many reasons but in my expert opinion and observation, it comes to the over-pouring into one type of intimacy while not necessarily honing in on others (which absolutely matter).
While some couples ignore sexual compatibility, others are missing financial intimacy or the type of intimacy that is built on non-sexual communication. There are several types of intimacy and it's very rare that couples are well-versed in all of them—we're human, after all. Perhaps you're placing too much weight on sexual intimacy, which can definitely build intimacy but it's similar to when we're locking our thumbprint into our iPhone — it can only span over so much before you have to lift and replace your thumb on another area to ensure you've covered all your grounds.
But, what I'm here to tell you is that by improving your emotional connection and learning to build emotional intimacy in your relationship as a whole, there will be a trickle effect that occurs in the other areas of your relationship. (Might even unlock next-level sex). So I spoke with one of my faves, Shadeen Francis, licensed sex and relationship therapist, for her thoughts on improving emotional connection in our romantic partnerships.
She wasted no time expounding on the need for emotional connections in our partnership emphasizing the magnitude of knowing someone deeply. She shared, "Emotional connection is how we build intimacy. Intimacy is the deep knowing of one another, not just things about them, like that they don't like onions, but their actual experience in the world, such as it makes them anxious to travel alone. Rather than the belief that we are supposed to be able to predict or interpret one another's feelings, we learn about each other over time."
"Emotional connection is how we build intimacy. Rather than the belief that we are supposed to be able to predict or interpret one another's feelings, we learn about each other over time."
Shutterstock
Many of us are under the impression that millennials have a disconnect when it comes dating, one that makes us insensitive to the opposite sex. Whether that's true or not, I won't confirm...at least not today but what I will say is that fixing the disconnect will require an entire generation to come together for community building that further explores the current dynamics of Black love. It seems that the more independent we grown — as we reform gender roles — we have lost our ability or incentive to be vulnerable, in my opinion. But according to Francis, vulnerability is a necessary climb but a difficult one for most of us. "Emotional connection requires emotional vulnerability, the regular sharing of emotions. That can feel really hard when we are feeling hurt or afraid. To tell someone 'I am feeling sad' or 'I am feeling scared' is to essentially give them a clear roadmap into your heart. We might not have had the permission, guidance, or the safety to do that in our families, friendships, or past relationships, but it is a necessary practice in relationships."
She continued, "A sign that [this] might be missing [is] if you notice yourself being unwilling to confide in one another, defensiveness, conflict avoidance, or consistently feeling misunderstood." Though, so much of the work does and will occur in your relationships directly. I must add that getting to the healthier version of what our grandparents had (that seems to always be the comparison) — a love that endures all but without so much of the hurt that they suffered due to unspoken trauma (generational and otherwise) — will require vulnerability on a larger scale in addition to doing the work in our individual relationships.
"To tell someone 'I am feeling sad' or 'I am feeling scared' is to essentially give them a clear roadmap into your heart. We might not have had the permission, guidance, or the safety to do that in our families, friendships, or past relationships, but it is a necessary practice in relationships."
Maybe you read this and know immediately that, when it comes to emotional intimacy, you and your boo are lacking. Or maybe you don't feel like that area doesn't need work at all. Either way I'd say there's always room for improvement. We're always evolving individually and in our relationships, thus there's always more intimacy to unpack — things to learn and unlearn — and when you think about it, that's the fun part about partnership. The ebbs and flows.
That said, Francis recommends asking these questions to improve the emotional connection and intimacy:
How are you feeling? (Invite them to use an emotion word, like angry, surprised, sad - "aight", "good", "fine", and "some type of way" are not feelings!)
What do you wish I knew about you?
When you are feeling _____________, what can I do to help you feel better?
What's a favorite memory we've shared so far? How can we create some of that feeling again?
Shutterstock
She further suggests that you make it a game if it feels a bit odd or "challenging to initiate emotional conversation," adding that "there are a number of card decks and conversation cards that are designed to promote intimate conversation. Pick one that feels like a good fit and set aside some time, maybe over dinner or on a date night, to go through them. Or pull one card each day. Let your partner know it's not a test, you just want to get to know them better."
Additionally, you can check out Pinterest for more activities to help build emotional intimacy. Lastly, because I know society has a habit of asking Black men and women to stay "strong" all the same and yet differently, I inquired about how this intimacy homework and the questions provided might change based on gender...just to be on the safe side. But truly, Francis' response was the perfect f*ck you to the white supremacy that has especially left Black men feeling less than for participating in the human experience that is emotion.
"Society socializes men to disengage from their emotions, but having feelings isn't 'feminine.' Emotions have no gender. Everyone has emotions, they are necessary parts of our survival as they make it clear what we are experiencing."
Love seems sparkly and it definitely has its moments, but much like self-love, the real stuff lies in the ongoing buffering and polishing to ensure that it's not just good lighting reflecting off that jawn. Taking the time to reflect, both actively and retroactively, then initiating change through efforts such as this — well, that's how you truly get to live life in love and … golden (the sparkly stuff too).

Reflections.
Inspirations have hit me at the most inconvenient times these days, but rather than letting them slip, I'm determined to capture my thoughts and share them here as much as possible. If they can amuse me, indeed they can serve as amusement to others as well. Beat the bloat After my 38th birthday, I realised that I could no longer enjoy carbs with abandon without suffering from the dreaded bloat the next day. As yesterday was 'cardio bloodshed' day at the box, I decided to allow myself a slice of carrot cake (I've also been craving it for days now) after dinner. This morning, getting dressed for work, I had to change my tops twice, much to my chagrin, as both of the tops I'd intended to wear did nothing to hide my bloatedness. In the end, I settled for a forgiving tie-dye t-shirt. At least, it expresses my happiness of today being a lifting day instead of a cardio day, yay! Moving boxes maybe? I've been attending the 4.30pm class at my box as it was the only class with a smaller crowd other than the one at 7.30am (which I decided is too early for me these days). That is until last week when a bunch of new people also start coming in for the 4.30pm class. I like welcoming new people to the box when they're not competing for my favourite spot or my favourite barbell. Yes, I realise that this seems petty but I've also recently experienced some rather unexciting vibes coming from the members and the coach -- ranging from casual brush-offs and low-key snide remarks about other members who aren't so athletically gifted. Turning 40 this year, I'm definitely not one of the members who will be winning competitions for the box anytime soon. I just want a safe, comfortable and welcoming space to work out. If moving boxes is what it takes to lift happier, then I might just do that. Moving to TikTok A friend of mine who is an older millennial like me conveyed his frustrations over not getting much traffic to his blog anymore. Back in the early 2000s before social media ruled the world, we used to get invited to event launches and restaurant reviews to blog about them. These days, bloggers have been replaced by social media influencers, first on Facebook and Instagram, and now on TikTok. Compared to my friend, I've made a smoother transition into the social media-influencing world with my food Instagram page, KK Food Buddy. I'm still getting regular invites to restaurant reviews (which helps with minimising my food expenses but certainly explains why I still don't have a six-pack) but that opportunity is indeed petering out with the rise of 'newly-viral' TikTokers. I told my friend that time has changed and he's got to put more effort into his social media postings. Perhaps, he could start by posting on his Instagram more than once in a few months. I, too, had just started a TikTok channel for KK Food Buddy (albeit begrudgingly) if only just to survive as long as possible as a food blogger/small-time social media influencer. I was reminded once again that change is the only constant in life and, as much as we love reminiscing about the past and hoping that things are still as they were before, the past is not coming back. Just gotta deal with that.

Methamphetamine vs amphetamine
Tumblr media
Mental health conditions like depression. In the 1940s, doctors commonly gave patients both of these drugs to treat ailments such as: These drugs are man-made in laboratories and consist of artificial chemicals that stimulate various parts of your brain. MethamphetamineĪmphetamine and methamphetamine are closely related stimulant drugs that doctors sometimes prescribe to help patients with severe medical conditions. Here’s everything you need to know about these addictive drugs. The Blackberry Center is here to answer your questions. Have you ever wondered about the differences between amphetamine and methamphetamine? With such close similarities, it can be quite confusing to understand the legality and risks of using amphetamine vs. Addiction Treatment for Substance Abuse.Methamphetamine Abuse and Addiction Can Harm Your Mental Health. In 2012, adults between the ages of 20 and 39 received roughly 16 million Adderall prescriptions.Ī New York Times story published in 2016 referred to millennials as “Generation Adderall,” for liberal use of the drug in young adults, with or without a prescription. adult population has climbed in recent years. Use of prescription stimulants, notably Adderall, in the U.S. Misuse of the drugs, however, can lead to addiction. While Adderall and Ritalin have some chemical properties in common with methamphetamine, they are generally considered safer when taken at prescribed doses and under the supervision of a medical practitioner. population) reported using meth in the past year. In the United States, in 2012, roughly 1.2 million people (about 0.4 percent of the U.S. Meth use has declined over the past decade, possibly as a result of limits put on the sale of pseudoephedrine in many countries. In 2006, the United Nations World Drug Report called meth the most abused hard drug on Earth. As a result, illegal meth labs turned to an easier to obtain precursor-pseudoephedrine-a chemical found in many cold medicines. In the 1980s, the United States began to tighten regulations around the sale and use of the ephedrine–a pharmaceutical precursor used to make crystal meth. Many meth addicts have rotting teeth-a condition known as meth mouth-and experience severe weight loss. Meth addiction can cause serious changes in the brain including paranoia, hallucinations and delusions (for instance, the feeling of insects creeping under the skin). Some users report getting hooked after trying the drug just once. Over time, the brain develops tolerance to the drug and the user needs to take higher and higher doses to achieve the same pleasurable effects.Ĭrystal meth may be particularly addictive. Meth AddictionĬhronic methamphetamine use can lead to addiction. It was also becoming apparent that amphetamines had many harmful effects-including delusions, paranoia, abnormal heartbeat and heart failure-among regular users and addicts. People soon discovered its euphoric, energizing side effects. Their inhaler medication, called Benzedrine, was initially available without a prescription. Benzedrine and Early Methamphetamine UseĪmerican pharmaceutical company Smith, Kline, and French began marketing the amphetamine inhaler for use in asthma and nasal congestion in 1932. This gives users a rapid, intense high, making crystal meth both more addictive and potentially more harmful than other forms of methamphetamine. Smoking the drug can quickly elevate levels of methamphetamine in the brain. It may look like shards of glass or clear-white rocks. Other, illegal forms of methamphetamine-usually in the form of a white powder-can be recreationally snorted or dissolved in water and injected.Ĭrystal meth is a solid, crystalline form of the drug. Adderall (amphetamine) and Ritalin (methylphenidate) are related FDA-approved drugs that have typically been used to treat ADHD in adolescents.

I’m an older millennial, or I guess a micro generation Zennial. The first mass school shooting I remember is the Westside Middle School shooting in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Why? Because it was close to me. Around 4 hours away. March 24, 1998. 4 female students a pregnant teacher. How it began? The pulling of a fire alarm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was 12. The same age as 3 of the 4 girls kid. Wanna know what policies we put in place? Cages over the alarms.
Sadly over a year later made us forget about this one, and all school shootings before it. Yes, there’s actually ones before Jonesboro.
I was 13 and ending 7th grade when on April 20, 1999 Columbine happened. We were around the state testing time period so everyone was on edge. But when we head about the shooting, we didn’t care. I remember the shock. I remember the images of the kids running out of the school. As a middle schooler, I was more frightened by the Columbine shooting because we had one more year in our building before heading to the big bad high school. We knew of the bullying.

Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were inspired by Timothy McVeigh and the Oklahoma City Federal Building Bombing.
What was the policy changes? Limit the amount of fertilizer you could buy.
My high school experience was punctuated with bomb threats every semester. The closest to danger we got was a pipe bomb in a locker but the ignition fuse was in the students pocket. Honestly I think the local law enforcement enjoyed it because they got to practice bomb squad stuff.
We had vinyl backpacks that melted and mesh backpack that lasted a quarter. Walmart loved it. Wearing ID badges were something we learned and punished for not doing. I’m sure the lanyard business sky rocketed after that.
I remember becoming complacent about my Junior year. We could have regular backpacks and just carry our IDs, even with bomb threats still happening.
Eventually school resource officers and metal detectors were a thing.
By the time my classmates who had kids in high school had kids going to school, active shooter drills were a thing.
My best friend had her baby 5 months after graduation. I remember when they had a surprise active shooter drill at her kids school and how traumatized she was. I thought immediately that we were a unique generation. We saw the second terrorist attack on US soil and a place that should be safest for us become a battlefield. And now, our kids are on that battlefield.
I saw my friends enlist days after 9/11. I had friends lose fellow soldiers in battle. These same kids stood out in the school parking lot with me while we waited for the school to be cleared.
What makes my experience a bit different, my civilian school district houses the military base schools. It’s one of the last in the country to do so. So as I watched the second tower fall, I knew that 3/4th of the kids in the class I was in would have parents overseas in a matter of weeks.
I’m sad that we STILL have this issue. That this is now becoming a generational norm. It should have never gotten this far!
I don’t have the answers. I have hopes but those hopes decrease by half every time a school shooting happens.
I think we need to see some decade numbers:
List of School Shootings before 2000:
1840’s- 1 incident
1850’s- 3 incidents
1860’s- 5 incidents
1870’s- 7 incidents
1880’s- 10 incidents
1890’s- 6 incidents
1900’s- 13 incidents
1910’s- 18 incidents
1920’s- 10 incidents
1930’s- 7 incidents
1940’s- 8 incidents
1950’s- 19 incidents
1960’s- 21 incidents
1970’s- 40 incidents
1980’s- 60 incidents
1990’s- 97 incidents.
Here’s some graphs that add to the information

Hey moneymamas! I tried to get a secured credit card from my bank and they declined me in the end. I had the money to get it and everything! Do you have any suggestions on how to get a credit card so I can build credit? I'm coming at this late and I just have to get this moving.
That sucks, honey. You're trying the right tactics, but I think the current economic atmosphere is working against you. By which I mean: banks are nervous to hand out new lines of credit right now.
One thing you can do is find someone with good credit to cosign on the secured card with you. A relative or friend you trust would be good options. But I know that's not always ideal.
The other thing you can do is to put a few regular bills (Netflix, your electricity, student loans) on your debt card set to autopay. Paying these bills on time and in full will build your credit up over time, making you a safer bet for the bank to issue a credit card to.
You also don't have to get a secured card from your bank! You can get a credit card from lots of different companies. My favorites are the Chase Sapphire credit card and the Capital One card. Shop around until you find one that will accept you.
