imagine ur garthy o’brien, just trying to fuck this hot ranger you met at your brothel that you own, except her teenage kids/wards/bosses keep knocking on the door to your bedroom and interrupting you guys and THEN you learn that she’s actually in a committed relationship but didn’t tell you, so THAT sucks but THEN one of the teens comes and finds you in the middle of the night yelling about how his friend is gone and they can’t find him and he might be in danger, so you help him teleport to his friend, and then when they all get back, looking extremely upset and dejected, you apologize to the ranger’s daughter for making her feel uncomfortable by fucking her mother and in the process SHE reveals to you that her mom’s boyfriend is actually this really cool werewolf guy that you KNOW and have fucked on multiple occasions

Fictional Librarian of the Month: Mo Testa in “Dykes to Watch Out For”
Tumblr media
Left to right, panels of Mo in episodes 1, 3, 8, 11, and 13
Hello everyone! This continues from the “Fictional Librarian of the Month” entries for November, December, January, February, March, April, and May, with this series focusing on fictional librarian every month, prioritizing those in currently shows, but also covering older shows, using entries from the “List of fictional libraries” from time to time. This month, I’d like to highlight Mo Testa in Alison Bechdel’s Dykes to Watch Out For. Here we go!
About the librarian
Mo’s official description describes her as a “worrier and kvetch extraordinaire, with a job at now-defunct Madwimmin Books on the side” which also notes that she has “since graduated from library school.” It was also said she has a “dedication to social justice combined with red and white striped shirts” and has two cats, specifically named Virginia and Vanessa.
Role in the story
Mo is a protagonist in this series, which became a “countercultural institution among lesbians and discerning non-lesbians all over the planet,” running from 1983 to 2008. In one comic, she applies for a job, but rejects it because previous librarian left as she disagreed with the Patriot Act, staying dedicated to her principles. She is later shown going to school, tries to remain informed, dealing with the death of her cat, and gets a library job. I love how the library was described as the “temple to the written word” in one comic as well.
Does the librarian buck stereotypes?
As a lesbian, she becomes a reference librarian and makes some personal calls at work. In the sense that she is White, female, and wears glasses, she falls into stereotypes of librarians. On the other hand, the fact she is passionate about her beliefs and this translates into her work as a librarian, and that stands against stereotypes.
Any similarity with librarians in other shows?
In some ways, she is similar with another librarian, Amity Blight, in The Owl House, who is a White woman and a lesbian. However, she is such a principled librarian which makes her unlike any other librarian on this blog, even more than someone like Kaisa in Hilda.

Growing up we had this game that had little pigs you roll like dice and I cannot for the life of me remember anything about it
You may be thinking about Pass the Pigs!
Tumblr media
This is the version my family had, and the pigs were a kind of rubbery texture that I really wanted to bite.

Finally finished his ref! I'm hoping to explore his story and such more and a fresh ref was the way to get my foot in the door. He's grown so much from his very first iteration it's insane honestly.

this doesnt need a response or anything, just wanted to say how cool your guys reference section is !! when i was first getting into fanfic years ago that wouldve been SO helpful, and its so cool u guys made that for new fans :)) awesome stuff!! <3
I DO need to respond because I'm absolutely thrilled that the Reference Section is getting some use! Thank you so much for reaching out and bringing attention to one of the lesser known parts of the library.
If you're new to the blog (hi! welcome!) or have somehow just missed the Reference Section (that Card Catalog got you first), then you are in for a treat!
Have you ever wondered about how to tag your fic? Or where you can find other rec blogs? Maybe you want to link your AO3 to your tumblr, or your tumblr to your AO3! Maybe you just love reading fanfic, but feel nervous about leaving comments. Information on all this and more can be found in the Reference Section!
Basically, if I come across something that I think would be helpful to the fanfic community, I add a link to it in the Reference Section. Some of the tips are written by me, and some of them are written by the @wolfstarlibrarian (who has their own awesome Reference Section as well!) and some are written by other blogs that I just happened across that had really good information. If you haven't used it before, I hope that you'll at least check it out in the future and see if it's something that might be useful going forward!
Truly, I'm so excited that you found it and found it helpful. I always love hearing from Library Patrons and appreciate that you took the time to send this.
❤️ Lots of Love and Happy Referencing! ❤️

...
“Where would we go?” Her voice comes out weak.
“Wherever you like,” he says. “Although…”
“Yes?”
“There is a retrospective of Nakahira Takuma’s work at the MOMAT.”
Damn him. He knows her interest in photography. He also must know she just finished organizing their collection of Takuma’s amnesia dreams, which had of course disappeared during Morpheus’ absence and only recently reappeared in another, unrelated section (Toru Takemitsu’s orchestral compositions from the 1980s). Photographs are different, in dreams. Both more and less definite, relevant details brought to the fore whether or not they’re the subject, all the weight of nostalgia with none of the camera’s stark eye. Lucienne has spent hours comparing Takuma’s dreams to the Library’s copies of his post-recovery work, trying to identify the commonalities between them. If asked, she would say that her duties encompass reference and research, in addition to curation.
She has not seen a photograph in the Waking since—well, since humans invented the technology. Morpheus took her to an exhibition.
