Buzz your way to Red Bee Cafe

Coffee shops on corners of vacant streets that are a short 10 minute ride from the beach are the way to my heart. Red Bee cafe resides in a neighborhood you normally wouldn’t expect a coffee shop to live in; across the street from a self-serve car wash center and next to a clothing store, but alas Red Bee stands on the corner of Third and Grand Ave. Even though the location was a bit hidden, the atmosphere made up for it.

As soon as I walked in, I was welcomed by warms hello’s and the smell of fresh bread along with coffee beans - of course. Normally I would ask the barista for a good recommendation, but the Snickerdoodle Latte caught my eye instantly. Debating on a blueberry muffin or pumpkin loaf, I decided to go with the latter knowing it would balance each other out. I was hyped to try out the iced Snickerdoodle Latte, making sure I asked for Oatmilk as a replacement, I stood to the side taking in the scene.

It made me sad to see the tables pushed against the wall with the chairs atop them serving the reminder of the times we are still living in where indoor dining just doesn’t exist anymore. As I was pulled out of my lull by the barista calling out my order, I made my way to the bar picking up my coffee and muffin and heading outside.

Grabbing my notebook and new poetry book, Film for Her by Orion Carloto (10/10 recommend), setting them next to my coffee and muffin.

I mixed my coffee, watching the colors turn to a solid brown is the most satisfying thing to watch, I took my first sip and was instantly welcomed with an overload of sweetness. Normally being the vanilla latte girl that I am, I’m used to sweet drinks, but this time the Snickerdoodle was a bit overwhelming. After mixing the drink a few times and taking more sips, I found that not only was it too sweet, but also a bit too grainy from the Snickerdoodle powder. I absolutely loved the Blueberry muffin, but the coffee was hard to finish. The Oatmilk was amazing in the coffee, I would definitely try a different coffee next time. If I were to get Snickerdoodle again, I’d ask for less of the syrup because it was good just a tad bit too much this time around.
