Fun Fact
Kazakhstan鈥檚 Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
I didn't like the "black Galaxy Sand" substrate that i should've known better than to get at Petsmart. It was a pain to plant in and was staining the wood black. I used Seachem's Flourish black substrate instead.
Used some Anubias Nana, Cabomba Caroliniana, Amazon sword, red flame sword spotted????? Java Fern, Cardinal plant, along with an apogeton bulb and a red dwarf lily bulb.
Best place you know for getting healthy live plants, live invertebrates, and live fish (can be different for each, if you got different experiences.
The closest in-person aquaria place is literally almost an hour drive away (that isn't a fuckin' Petco/Petsmart Hell), so I'm interested in what breeders of fish and plants work best over shipping. I got a load of my tank set-up supplies delivered yesterday (though the tank itself and its heater, thermometer, cleaner siphon and one bit of hardscape are still coming this week), so really plant experience online is more what I'd need to know at the moment.
I wish the old independent pet store with the nice aquarium room and all the supplies and advice from the keeper in the town ten minutes away was still open, but I think it closed in the early 2010s long after my parents got their kissers and such. *heavy sigh*
It's an 8 US Gallon (30 liter) cube tank using epiphyte plants, lava rock, gravel substrate, and a box filter.
No betta fish in it yet as it's not cycled but I will probably hot-swap some aged media into the tank from one of my other filters once I get a betta for the tank.
Stocking will probably be one betta fish, one nerite snail, two Amano shrimp, and a few cherry shrimp.

Tank lives! Though, photography of said tank is still a bit fraught.
The Java fern arrived as a surprise two java ferns, and the clump of Anacharis was a full six inches longer than I expected to get, but it all works out and fills out the background and midground of this little tank nicely! And I found an especially cool Crypt to occupy one of the rear corners and spiral out as it grows, which turned out to be about five rooted runners of the species which I spaced a little and hopefully will start poking out towards the front and the right side of the tank for me to split off and add to any new tanks I might have in years to come. Also, Red Root Floaters. Like, a lot of them in the cup size I ordered. They're pretty happy since their newest leaves are unrolling and they're starting some new roots!
Also hurrah for my little Banana Lily Plant getting here safe and with two fresh baby leaves! And the bajillion strands of Christmas Moss everywhere--on the wood, on the cave, weighted into the front, sides, etc. XD It's very lush already!
