My absolute fav dwarf shrimp - Indian zebra shrimp. They have a ton of variety, even in my colony. Some are more bluish, some more red, some have bright orange eyes.
Even though they’re a caridina species, they’re super easy to keep. They do great in the same water parameters as cherry shrimp. Super underrated shrimp
in your expert opinion, which is the coolest shrimp in existence???
personally, I think Black Dragon shrimp are very cool because they look like bananas sometimes.
if you’re talking about neocaridina, I just love a nice black rili;-; or a blue!
bananas fuck. Hard.
if you are talking about caridina, there’s so many my head spins. the one ive seen that I love the most so far has been the blue jelly, like wtf how is it so beautiful and stunning
But then I also really like blue and red tigers
i need to become aware of every single shrimp known to the earth to give this question a truly quality answer, so take this answer with a grain of salt..
Calactic Council Part 1 : The Caridina Trade Enclave
The first somewhat fleshed out Galactic council Members, at least when it comes to a name, ships, location on a map and style, is the Caridina Trade Enclave.
Headcanon wise I see them as a uncomfortably wealthy Region, that acts as a neutral buffer and bridge between the Taiidan state, and it's neighbours. As a faction they make trade between all the regional factions, who don't really see eye to eye possible, by virtue of their position. Of course this is facilitated with non substantial mark ups, hence the uncomfortable amount of wealth.
Due to political circumstances and logistical issues, their fleets are mainly built to defend Trade Routes and Convoys from bold Raiders.
Ultimately, if it weren't for their usefulnes as a trade hub, they would sucumb quickly to their clients ambitions.

shrimply awesome!~ these guys are newly imported. so these are the best photos for now as the tank light is off, hopefully the colours improve with time :)
They remind me of gobstoppers or like little blue galaxies walking around on legs!
Caridina shrimp - BlueBolt (unsure of quality grade)
Hey, wanna see some bad and slightly out of focus photos of some of my fishtanks?
Stuff nobody asked for? :D
Boom!
First two:
Jazz Hands and his tank! (Long plants are in the background. But I trimmed them yesterday...)
Third and fourth:
Dark in a white suit and his tiny tank. He comes out from his hiding spot on rare occasions. Especially when it’s food time.
Here he was very offended coz it’s fasting day. He disagreed.
Fifth and sixth:
Mc. Nasty and his tank.
He got a slightly crooked ray on his tail, but I still like him a lot.
He’s angry 24/7.
(Even here...Don’t mind the hole. Same plants, same trimming day. I trimmed them too low. :,D)
Seventh:
Caridina multidentata photobombing while I was trying to take a bad pic to Jazz Hands.
I’ve got these shrimps (plus a bunch of caridina davidii) since years ...They grew big..
Eight!:
My goldies fishtanks.
They chonk.
a pretty good example of how diverse the coloration can be with the Indian zebra shrimp. The big female in the middle has a subtle blue green color to her.
Talking a little bit about caridina and neocaridina shrimp below the cut!

These are caridina shrimp. They're the big buck boys that you see in all of the shrimp shows! They have a narrower range of water parameters that they thrive in because they've been selectively bred by humans to a point where they're more sensitive to things like nitrates and ammonia and pH imbalances.

These guys are neocaridina! They're hardier and more prolific than caridina shrimp. They have several lovely colors and patterns, including 'wild types' which have the coloring of their wild ancestors! It's kind of like if a human was born with homo erectus hair growth patterns to two very unhairy parents and I think that's really cool!
Caridina and neocaridina, despite the fact that they look incredibly similar, are actually from different genera! This means they can't interbreed.
Both have diets consisting of biofilm (which is the slippery stuff which forms naturally on the surfaces of your aquarium created by secretions of microorganisms), algae, decaying plant matter, their own molted shells, and basically anything else they can get their little claws on! You can blanch vegetables and feed them little kebabs. Be sure to give them a varied diet!
I love these guys a lot. They're delightful creatures with no fear and an insatiable hunger for All Things.
Shrimp people please tell me if you think getting caridinas is a good idea. I've had a horrible time with neos & I'm scared of spending a ton of money (nothing local so I usually spend more on shipping than the actual creatures) and having the little guys die immediately. I have an established tank that in theory would be perfect for them but im still nervous
