david, when surrounded by lots of people, will beeline for angel. crowds/meetings/etc, it doesn't matter. he's going to them.

honey likes to wash guy's hair in the shower, even after he makes several dirty shower jokes, because he goes quiet and enjoys it a lot more than they know he'd admit when they touch his hair.

elliott, when sitting beside sunshine, will squeeze their hand every so often. he always gets a squeeze back. the two always giggle to themselves when this happens.

asher has a lot of scars on his hands, whether that's from reckless behaviour or whatever else. babe used to avoid touching them, not knowing if he'd like it or not, but once they unintentionally ran their finger over the uneven skin and found it pretty theraputic to do. he's noticed they've started doing this a lot now, and likes it a whole lot.

as much as his spouse continues to tell him he doesn't have to, james loves to get them flowers. doesn't matter the day, the current season, or the holiday- if he's home late or feels like it, he's getting flowers.

sam subtly checks that darlin has enough food to the last the week, every week, just in case. they've been doing better at making sure they have enough for themselves, and he trusts them well, but it's become habit at this point.

in public places, avior holds onto starlight's arm or hand, making sure he's touching them or able to see them. he doesn't want to lose them again.

blake doesn't enjoy looking at himself in the mirror unless bestie is also seen in the reflection.

every so often gavin finds himself tracing over freelancer's features again and again, not wanting to forget them. they let him do this as much as he wants, always noticing a forlorn expression on him when he does.

vega's expression would always soften when he looked at warden. they noticed it the closer it got to his end. sometimes, it almost looked like he wanted to cradle their face, but they don't know that for sure. they couldn't ask him now even if they wanted to.

Sweetheart's hands rest on his tittys chest. They float a little whenever they kiss. Milo's hands tend to be on sweetheart's ass and if ever they float a littke to much he pulls them down.

A Porter Solaire backstory headcanon thought, below the cut just in case of spoilers...

According to Sweetheart, a magical presence pushed them out of the room as they spied on the House of Bennett conversation.

According to Porter, after he was freed from his abusive maker, William helped him learn how to "relearn" his connection with magic, which makes me believe Porter was empowered before his turning.

I've thus decided that Porter was a graviton-energetic before his turning. Although he relishes his vampiric powers (now that he understands them), he did manage to salvage some of his graviton-power.

And how did he use it, you may ask?

He used graviton-energy to push Sweetheart away to safety just before he killed the King of the House of Bennett.

Darlin who was rejected from every other pack because they were seen as too much of a liability to be introduced to any pack. Packs either couldn't accept new shifters, didn't want to train a humanborn shifter, didn't want to accept an autistic child into the pack or simply made up excuses not to take Darlin in.

Darlin who watches their parents struggle with getting them into a pack, driving from state to state, trying to learn about magic and keep their child safe as they search for a place to help them develop as a shifter.

Darlin who leanred to use their magic on their own at a young age so they weren't a burden to potential packs who could take them in.

Darlin whose parents, Darius and Renko Lancer fought tooth and nail with Gabe Shaw and Frank Talbot to get their kid into a pack despite not being empowered.

Darlin whose family is accepted and took up residence at the edge of pack territory in a log cabin. They make it work

Darlin who's introduced to the pack at 15, it has been two years since Darren Lancer first found out he was a shifter and he is better at using his magic than most of the adults in the pack. He is seen as a prodigy and they quickly make friends with David, Milo and Asher. They are finally given a place to be themselves and have friends.

Darren has stayed with the pack for six months when they get the call during class that their parents were involved in an accident in their home. He runs home immediately and sees the scene. They learn that a rival pack attacked their home for being too close to their territory at the boundary of the shaw pack. Their parents fu=ought back and were killed in the incident. The department promises to look into the matter. The case runs cold.

Darren stays a month in his parents' cabin after their deaths. Nothing was touched. Darren has not cleaned it since their parents died. There is dried blood in some spots where the department did not reach. The smell of iron fills Darren's lungs and he has not been to school since. There are rumours about Darren spread by some of the adults of the pack. They think Darren has broken psychologically, they think that Darren is sick and they eventually call the authorities to have Darren taken out of the pack and placed in foster care. It is not successful and Gabe Shaw intervenes. A week after, Darren is placed under the care of Marie and Colm Greer. He is not officially adopted and has refuted the option of adoption. He is sixteen when he arrives into their home, his birthday passed and he didn't tell anyone. He instead spent it alone, cleaning his parents' cabin.

Darren Lancer gets into a fight with Christian after he takes their dad's jacket from them to put it to wash. He has a broken nose and a scar on his chest. The pack disapproves of their actions and threatens removal. Gabe however shows Darren how to clean and maintain leather jackets 1 month and 2 weeks after the death of their parents.

The department has Darren in holding after they were caught fighting with the rival pack that attacked their parents. Five wolves have had their limbs mangled and may not walk well again, Two wolves are in critical condition and a wolf is too traumatised to give testimony. They are found out to be the same wolves that attacked Darren's parents and Gabe intervenes to keep Darren out of trouble 1 month 3 weeks after the death of their parents.

Marie scolds Darren and admits them into therapy. Darren and Milo grow closer as a result of Colm's bad habits worsening. A month after the death of their parents, as marie cries alone in the kitchen, Darren sits next to her and hugs her. 2 months after feeling robbed, Darren feels connected to the Greers.

Darren starts to learn guitar and music as an outlet after being suggested by his therapist. Marie reminds Milo and Darren to keep it down a few nights but she's glad to see that they're getting along better. Darren rejoins pack meetings and social gatherings with the pack 3 months after the death of their parents. David makes friends with them much to the disapproval of the rest of the pack's adults. Gabe invites Darren over for dinner.

4 months after, Darren is officially dating David Shaw. Gabe invites Darren over again, and again, and again. Marie has taught Darren how to cook, clean and how to trust. She has taught him how to defend himself emotionally and physically. Gabe has taught Darren how to run free in the forests nearby as a wolf, he's taught Darren how to tussle and David is there to learn with him. Milo, David and Asher invite Darren to hang out regularly. Milo and Asher feign disgust seeing them kiss but they're glad seeing them both happy. David says he loves them and Darren isn't shy to say it too.

Darren turns 17 and David asks him to senior prom. It's one of the best nights he's had. They dance with Milo and pull stunts with Asher but the final dance is reserved for David before they leave the dance and spend the rest of the night together. It's been 5 months and Darren feels at peace.

Doc wasn't sure how to feel as they showed Hush how to knead the dough for fresh pasta. His rambling in that soft youthful voice fell on deaf ears as their mind tried to process everything from the past half hour. They knew his magic - was it even called magic if it came from him anymore? - had erased the Articulate's blood that had splattered on them.

What if... What if they were able to stop him? Not the same way that the Chorus was. No, that obviously wasn't working. But what if they were able to make him change his goal? To stay on Elegy and be like the humans that seemed to fascinate him so sincerely? Would that work?

"Wait a minute..." They said, turning to look at Hush. He paused his wiggling of the noodle dough. "If you could just make Articulates just die like that... then what was the point of using my core when we first met?"

"I had hoped you would forget that. Could you forget that, please?" Hush hummed and returning to his wiggling. They stared at him, incredulous.

Redacted-Tober: Day 1

Thanks to @autisticempathydaemon for creating Redacted-Tober, a 31-day celebration of creation, Redacted, and October! I thought I'd participate by writing one (or a few) sentences with the prompt each day.

Today's prompt is Vincent and Home.

The first time Vincent considered Solaire Clan territory home was the night he told newborn Sam Collins, "The Solaires are here to help you. We take care of our own," and realized he meant it.

I am SO HERE for the scrawny, awkward young-David Shaw headcanons! First, I would like to remind you of this conversation in an older fic of mine, because I wholeheartedly stand by it:

“I’ve no doubt you do,” Sam drawled. “Damned if David isn’t the spitting image of him,” he remarked. “Except he’s about two feet taller than his daddy was.”

“Yeah, for sure,” Asher grinned. “In fact, I’ll let you in on a little secret, but you have to promise promise promise you won’t tell David I told you this. He can get a little squirrely when it comes to people seeing him as anything else but a big, tough alpha.” Asher stuck out his hand to Sam, pinky finger outstretched and wiggling. “Will you promise your silence?”

Sam stared at Asher’s hand, squinting a bit as if to figure out what his next move should be.

“It’s a pinky swear!” Asher informed with a mock-haughty tone. “The highest form of swearing. It means that if you break your promise, then I could break your pinky finger. You do the same thing, see?” Sam tentatively mirrored Asher’s gesture as Asher wrapped their fingers around each other.

“Kinda morbid, ain’t it? Good thing I’m a man of my word,” he declared, moving his wrist up and down brusquely. “I won’t say a thing to David.”

“Knew I could trust you,” Asher beamed as he retracted his hand from Sam’s. “Now it’s official,” he beamed. “So I’ll tell you, as a kid, David was always super sensitive about his height because at first, when he was going through puberty, he grew practically overnight, but it was like, the rest of his body wasn’t catching up. So imagine, if you will, an already scrawny teenager, shifter powers just barely manifesting, getting stretched out even more with a series of growth spurts. The problem was, nothing else was changing in David’s body at the time. His voice hadn’t changed, he wasn’t growing facial hair yet, his muscles weren’t really developed. He really started to freak out about it after a while.”

“You don’t say,” Sam said after a whistle of surprise. “Never would’ve guessed.”

“Hell, Milo could grow a full beard before David even started shaving his peach fuzz!” Asher’s hand glided over his chin, feeling at the stubble that seemed to grow in hours, no matter how often he shaved. “And it pissed David off to no end. Eventually, the rest of David’s body caught up to his height, but there was a time when David was really just about the most gawky, awkward kid you could ever imagine."

“Guess you never know about some people, do you?” Sam marveled.

“I mean, he’d knock my teeth out if he heard me say that now, but it’s absolutely, positively, one-hundred percent true,” Asher said, holding his palm over his heart to add weight to his claims. "I have pictures to prove it."

Second, I would like to submit this headcanon to you, following your note about David wearing glasses and then switching to contacts as an adult: It's a few months into his relationship before Angel even realizes David wears glasses because he always opts to use his contacts, no matter what. Dry eyes, itchiness, and even headaches wouldn't deter him. Then one day, at work, David got in a bit of a scuffle (a freelancer who drew on some water elementalism in the heat of the moment) and was unable to wear his contacts. Unlike anyone else in his life, Angel didn't make one comment about the glasses. No jokes. No teasing. No... anything. Until later that night, when David was scanning a recipe book for a conversion, Angel noted how nice he looked in his glasses, that the frames suited his face. David still prefers his contacts when he's out and about, but he's not so shy about wearing his glasses anymore, especially at home.
