Judge Aileen Cannon on Thursday overruled the special master she appointed to review thousands of documents seized from Mar-a-Lago, shielding former President Donald Trump from addressing his claims that documents may have been "planted" or "declassified" in court.
Cannon, a Trump appointee in southern Florida, issued an order extending the timeline of the review after Trump's lawyers objected to the expedited schedule laid out by special master Raymond Dearie, who was chosen from a list proposed by Trump's lawyers. Under the new order, the review and any surrounding issues around Dearie's rulings "will almost certainly" stretch into next year, according to Politico.
Cannon, who has served on the bench for less than two years, also overruled Dearie, a Reagan appointee who has served for 36 years, on his requirement that Trump assert whether the FBI's inventory of seized items is accurate, effectively challenging his public claim that agents may have "planted" evidence.
"There shall be no separate requirement on Plaintiff at this stage, prior to the review of any of the Seized Materials, to lodge ex ante final objections to the accuracy of Defendant's Inventory, its descriptions, or its contents. The Court's Appointment Order did not contemplate that obligation," Cannon wrote.
She wrote that if any issues rise during the review "that require reconsideration of the Inventory or the need to object to its contents, the parties shall make those matters known to the Special Master for appropriate resolution and recommendation to this Court."
Cannon also rejected other parts of Dearie's plan for the review, giving Trump's lawyers additional weeks to assert whether they believe any documents are covered by attorney-client privilege or executive privilege.
"If Judge Cannon was going to continue calling every ball in Trump's favor, I'm not at all sure why she felt the need to appoint a special master to review the documents the government seized from Mar-a-Lago," tweeted Joyce Vance, a former U.S. attorney. "No real surprises here. The name of the game is delay. Judge Cannon countermanded Judge Dearie's streamlined schedule & helped Trump advance his usual delay game in litigation. That means it could be late December before DOJ can use documents it recovered from Mar-a-Lago."
Cannon previously came under criticism for repeatedly siding with Trump in the case. Cannon's initial order barred the Justice Department from continuing its criminal investigation into the documents and ordered documents marked classified to be included in the special master review and shared with Trump's lawyers. A federal appeals court overturned those rulings, arguing that she had abused her discretion and that Trump "not even attempted to show that he has a need to know the information contained in the classified documents."
Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe said that Cannon's order on Thursday was "clearly wrong."
"But she's a sideshow now that the Court of Appeals has lifted her injunction with respect to the classified documents," he tweeted. "On the eve of her stupidly extended deadline, DOJ should indict Trump and render her delays and game playing moot."
Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti said the order was a "minor win" for Trump.
"But this doesn't change the difficult position Trump is in," he added. "He still has to take a position regarding every seized document."
Some legal experts criticized Cannon for repeatedly intervening on Trump's behalf.
"She's an embarrassment to the federal judiciary," wrote conservative attorney George Conway.
"Cannon's latest order has neither law nor reason on its side," tweeted former U.S. Attorney Harry Litman. "Judges never micromanage special masters this way," he said.
Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, who served on special counsel Bob Mueller's team, said that the order was "one more piece of evidence that she is completely unfit to serve on the bench."
"What does Donald Trump have on Judge Cannon or her husband?" Weissmann wrote. "Something is SO off in her decisions (and the court of appeals said as much) that it is impossible not to ask this question in all seriousness."

That Day in America
Tumblr media
I snuck down the basement stairs
to hide what I’d stolen. I’m not going
to tell you what it was because
it doesn’t matter. I will tell you
that day in America upstairs
in our apartment my mother offered
her sons into the hands of a god
whose face mutated from bad lieutenant
to carnival huckster with a hard-on
in his polyester pants. That might
sound cruel but my mother was a labyrinth
of mirrors and rattlesnakes and took
what comfort she could find.
I will tell you that day in America
the skies over Harmarville, Pennsylvania
were a cold, hard blue; like the robin’s
eggs we’d later find by the coal plant
and crush beneath our heels.
And small patches of filthy snow
in ditches and empty lots clung
to the earth as spring came on. I will
tell you that day in America
Ronald Reagan was struck by a bullet
that ricocheted off a black limo to lodge
in his lungs an inch from his heart
and White House press secretary
James Brady was shot in the head.
I will tell you on day in America
my mother sobbed as she told us
how she watched JFK’s brains
get blown out on tv when she was fifteen.
I was surprised by the intensity of her grief
as if he were a close friend or he’d
done her a great personal kindness;
neither of which were true.
I will tell you that day in America hiding
in our basement storage locker
getting high I didn’t care about
JFK or Ronald Reagan. As I was lying
on the concrete with shut eyes
I imagined John F. Hinckley
writing a love letter to Jodie Foster.
When he lifted his head and looked
at me I saw that his eyes
were the same color as my own.

Whenever I see Soyu-k anywhere, I want to vomit. She is a real piece of work if you don’t have your head up her ass or the ass of someone she’s fixating on.
If you have something she wants, she’ll be your best friend ‘til she sucks you dry. If you dare confront her about it, she’ll throw a fit. The size of the fit seems to depend on which way the wind’s blowing that day.
Soyu-k is a narc in more ways than one. If you say something mean about someone she’s sucking up to, for example, she’ll make sure lots of screenshots of that get passed around, even if you were just blowing off steam. Based on how she’s been since the Meredies days (where I also had to deal with her at times, please kill me), I wouldn’t trust Soyu-k with anything at all. So do not ever, ever, EVER say anything to Soyu-k that could possible become ammo. If it can be used against you, it will.
She’s also a huge clout chaser but will jump ship the minute things don’t look good for her. When Reagan Lodge got called out about a year or so ago, Jennadelle’s name was also brought up. Reagan, Jennadelle, and Soyu-k were actually quite a trio back in the day. Soyu-k tried to defend Jennadelle some.
A year later, when people noticed some very…weird stuff around Soyu-k’s twitter, she DFE, went private, and posted a journal on her account where she threw Jennadelle under the bus while claiming not to be a fascist or whatever, completely disassociated herself with her past bestie, etc.
Of course, that journal disappeared, like everything else potentially incriminating Soyu-k posts (or that might raise questions of, “why are you posting this and why are you so defensive about it?). Despite her whinging and self-victimization, Soyu-k knows exactly what she’s doing. That’s what makes her so ugly, malignant, and, frankly, unsafe.
(As an aside, take screenshots if you have to deal with this particular person. If I had the brains to do that from the start, I’d have enough dirt on Soyu-k to bury her.)
Soyu-k’s art looks distorted and joyless, because art reflects the artist, and "distorted and joyless” is exactly what Soyu-k is.
I’m only venting about this because I still have to deal with Soyu-k on the regular. She’s absolutely horrid and I wish she’d find some other place to shit up. And don’t worry, mod, she won’t be able to figure out who I am. First of all, she’s unlikely to see this. Second of all, she’s a total narc, and I’m very good at dealing with those. Third, I’m one of many who can’t stand Soyu-k but have to co-exist with her–so pick a name, Soyu-k, any name.
tl;dr Soyu-k is a POS
lmao soyu-k’s claim to fame is being a brown-nosing asskisser that will throw people under the bus without shame if she’s nice to you that means she wants something from you

The Golden Lamb
by James A. Willis
A visit to the Golden Lamb in Lebanon, Ohio, is like stepping back in time. For more than, two hundred years this restaurant and inn has been offering guests and weary travelers warm beds, delicious food, and spirits-spirits of all sorts.
In 1803, Jonas Seaman, formerly of New Jersey, applied for a license to "keep a house of public entertainment" at his residence. Raised by a father who was an innkeeper, Seaman wanted to try his hand at the trade. The idea was to use his two-story log cabin as a place to offer fine food and lodging to those passing through the area. Seaman's wife, Martha, would handle the cooking duties.
Shortly after officially opening and for business, Seaman's luck took a turn for the better when, in 1805, the first courthouse in Lebanon was built right across the street from the inn. Soon after, Seaman's little tavern became the spot for everyone to meet for lunch. In or around 1815, the first brick structure (now the lobby) was added to the log house. To meet the demand for lodging rooms, a third floor was added in 1834.
A dizzying array of famous people visited the inn in the ensuring two centuries, including Mark Twain and Charles Dickens. Twelve Presidents-among them James Garfield, Martin Van Buren, and Ronald Reagan-also stopped by. And if the stories are to be believed, some guests still roam the halls to this day.
Little Sarah's Antics
The first ghost believed to have haunted the Golden Lamb is Judge Charles R. Sherman, the father of General William Techumseh Sherman. Judge Sherman died in the building in June 1829. Guests have reported seeing a tall, gaunt figure walking the halls at night or smelling pipe tobacco inside the building, a nonsmoking establishment.
The most famous ghost at the inn is nonetheless shrouded in mystery. Although rarely seen, she makes her presence known by moving objects around in rooms, knocking things off walls, or causing ruckuses of other sorts. Perhaps for this reason, people began to refer to the ghost of that of a little girl.
She was given the name of Sarah, after the niece of inn manager Isaac Stubbs, on the assumption that she could be the mischievous ghost. Of course, in the world of ghost lore, fact and fiction tend to intermingle, and in reality Sarah lived well into adulthood.
Another theory about the ghostly girl is that she actually Eliza Clay, the young daughter of Ohio statesman Henry Clay. Eliza died at the Golden Lamb from a fever in 1825. Local lore holds that her ghost first appeared after some of her effects were moved up to a fourth-floor room to be put on display. Apparently, the display wasn't to Eliza's liking and her ghost began moving items and "adjusting" photographs on the wall.
Today, the room is closed off to the public, although visitors to the fourth floor of the Golden Lam can peer through the Plexiglas window installed in the door to see if anything has moved inside the room. The legend of the ghost is also printed there for all to read. Confusingly, the room Eliza Clay is believed to haunt is called "Sarah's Room." Apt, perhaps. Because in the end, who knows?
Ohio's Oldest Hotel
In 1940, the Daughters of the American Revolution officially established the Golden Lamb as Ohio's oldest hotel. Today, the hotel that grew from a log cabin built in 1803 is on the National Historic Register, and the Ohio State Historical Society lists the Golden Lamb as Ohio's oldest continuous business. The current hotel boasts a dining area with over 450 seats and eighteen comfortable guest rooms.
Where the Golden Lamb comes from is unclear. An 1820s advertisement for the inn refers to the building as the Ohio and Pennsylvania Hotel at the Sign of the Golden Lamb, with the questions surrounding the name counting as a little mystery of its own.

Their Secrets Shall Keep Close: The Indentured Orphans of Truro Parish
By: Lisa Timmerman, Executive Director
Created in 1732 by the Virginia General Assembly, Truro Parish served those living above the Occoquan river to the western frontier, “…by the River Occoquan, and Bull run (a branch thereof) and a course from thence to the Indian thoroughfare of the blew ridge of mountains. And that all that part that lies above said bounds should be called and known by the name of Truro.” Thanks to the dedicated Rector and Vestry of Pohick Church, historians can delve into the transcribed vestry minutes from 1732-1785. Men occupied these elected positions with substantial authority over the social, financial, religious, and political affairs of the counties they served until the end of the 18th century with the separation of church and state. At Truro, the men collected levies, arranged the construction of new chapels along with the maintenance of existing ones, took care of the sick and disadvantaged, checked property land boundaries, and acted as local representative for the people as they were often chosen as delegates to the House of Burgesses. These records contain amazing gems as they included information ranging from baptisms to burials along with very specific details when constructing new churches, down to the measurements and type of wood.

Orphans frequent vestry books across Virginia as churches strove to place children separated from their parents, whether through death or financial hardships, in settings where they could train and become productive members of their society – productive defined by Virginia’s male patriarchy. Both Dettingen and Truro Parish considered orphan’s needs to fall within the vestry’s capacity (you can read more here and here). In George Webb’s 1736 book, The Office and Authority of a Justice of the Peace, he stated the general practice for orphans in Virginia. “Churchwardens shall annually give an account to the Orphans’ Court, of all poor children in their Parish, whose parents are unable to bring them up; Such poor children may, by the county courts be bound apprentices the Males ‘til 21, and Female ‘til 18 years of age to Tradesmen, or any necessary Employment.”

Lewis Church Wardens for the time being for the Parish of Truro in the County of Prince William by the direction and order of the Court of ye said County dated the XXV day of Aprill MDCCXXXVII do by these presents put Sarah Piper an orphan, daughter of Margaret Piper Apprentice to Garrard Trammell and his heirs, with them after the manner of an Apprentice & Servant to dwell and serve from the time aforesaid until she shall attain the age of twenty one years by all which term the Said Sarah Piper the Said Garrard Trammell and his heirs well and truly shall serve, their Secretts shall keep close, their Commands Lawfull and honest everywhere She shall gladly do. And they shall find the Said Servant Apparell Meat Drink and Lodging & all other necessaries meet & convenient for and during the term aforesaid.
Garrard Trammell provided specifics in his indentured contract in terms of their behavior. Virginia’s General Assembly continually passed acts against fornication, swearing, religious profaning, “Sabbath abusing,” drunkenness, and adultery. Controlling the sexual lives of indentured servants was a concern for Virginia’s patriarchy if the woman became pregnant, potentially costing labor, time, and resources. The contracts also specified dice, referring to Virginia’s fond pastime of gambling. Located even at historic Jamestown, gambling in forms of dice and cards became common features at parties and ordinaries. Captain John Smith bemoaned gambling and even though the Virginia Colony passed strict ordinances for this behavior in 1610, we find Virginia’s General Assembly still preoccupied with this in 1691. Passed in 04/1691, “An act for the more effectuall suppressing the severall sins and offences of swaring, cursing, profaineing Gods holy name, Sabbath abuseing, drunkenness, ffornication, and adultery,” punished offenders with fines, time in the stock, public lashings, and imprisonment. The General Assembly acknowledged the role of the vestry in this as well.
“That every person and persons who shall so harbour, entertaine or provide for the maintenance of such women or women, or frequent her or their company, or the company of any other lewd, after publique admonition to avoid the same, given by the minister and Church wardens, by and with the consent of the vestrey and vestryes of the parish or parishes wherein such person or persons shall dwel, and in case there be no minister then the Church wardens of the same, by the consent aforesaid, shall forfeit and pay for every time it shall be proved, that he or they have been in company of such woman or women after such admonition as aforesaid, as if he or they had really been convicted of adultery, and every woman or women guilty of the same offence shall receive the like punishment. And be it enacted by the authority aforesaid, and it is hereby enacted, That the grand juries of every respective county within this dominion do twice yearly make presentments against the offenders of this law, to the court of the county where the offence shall be committed, and that the justices of the same punish the offenders according to this act, all which said forfeiture shall be divided into three equall parts, one third thereof towards the building and repairing the Church or Chappel of ease in the parish where the said offence shall be committed one third towards the maintenance of the minister of the same, and the other third for him or them that will sue or informe for the same by bill, plaint, or information, or action of debt in any court of record within this dominion, in which no essoign, protection or wager of law shall be allowed.”
Of course, the term indentured servants was extremely complex depending upon the year (”freedom dues” changed), the parties involved, the region of Virginia, and the ages of those in the contract. At least for Dettingen and Truro Parish, the orphans did not become lost members of society, instead earning a place in history as we continue uncovering the stories of all people living in early Virginia.
