“One of Reubens’s friends [at CalArts] was Michael Richards, who went on to play Kramer on ‘‘Seinfeld.’’ He recalls Reubens’s seriousness when it came to doing character work. ‘‘There was a student film where Paul wanted me to play his husband, and he played the wife and wore a dress. His performance wasn’t pushed, it wasn’t broad — he committed to it. He and I would talk about how a character’s doing you, you’re not doing the character.’’” [NYTimes]
A lovely evening! The film festival provided quite a number of giant velvety beanbags for the park movie screenings. The people who said they’d join me tonight bailed but I enjoyed myself just the same (“I’m a loner…”). The crowd seemed to have a mix of people who had seen the film a lot and some first timers, too. Excellent atmosphere.
Plans for tonight: it’s the finale of the outdoor screening programming at the Toronto International Film Festival. I got out my sewing machine this morning to make some ties. I don’t have a grey suit but I do have a grey gingham A-line dress.

Paul Reubens news out of the Toronto International Film Festival today. At the premiere of 'Quiz Lady', an R-rated comedy starring Awkwafina and Sandra Oh, it was revealed that he makes a brief cameo in the film (apparently with a wild Scottish accent?!). It is believed that this was his final film role.
Here's director Jessica Yu talking about how it came about.
