Oh boy... Osprey is an interesting little shit...
Saddling attempt! First the saddle pad. It went well.
...but then she reared when I put on the saddle. Little jerk.
With a lot of head-throwing and swearing, I eventually managed to get the bridle onto her prissy little face.
I got on with little difficulty...
Until, of course, I asked her to WALK, and she promptly BUCKED ABOUT 8 TIMES. So I longed her.
Yeah, you're goddamned right, Ozzy, if you buck, you get longed. Period. Do something Mom doesn't like and she makes it 100x harder. So don't do that.
She's such a little shit omg.
After I managed to calm her the fuck down, I brought her to Mr Sunfield, who was ASTOUNDED by her progress! Imma take her to Elizabeth Sunbeam later, she might be of more help than all my efforts combined.

Appaloosa Brush Set
Another set - this time for spotty brushes! It includes 4 smaller spot brushes, 4 clumped spot brushes, 1 full brush, and 1 roan brush.
These could definitely be used for other markings!
Tomorrow I'll be experimenting with stencils as I'd like to make coat clips. I will also release a speckle brush pack for those making sabinos, dominant whites, roans, rabicanos, etc! ♡
UPDATED: wasn't happy with the smallest size of these so they've been updated to shrink even more!

I’ve got a question about Ten Paces/The Running Iron. What are BJ and Lydia’s coats? I’d guess a snowflake Appaloosa or maybe a silver dapple for Lydia and a sabino for BJ, but I’d love to hear your horse coat thoughts
(the coats in question)
they actually aren't real horse markings, and that's on purpose. in both universes centaurs split from their common ancestor with horses long before any of the selective breeding that resulted in modern horse breeds and coats, which is why they dont have specific breeds either. i went more into all that in this post, but the important detail here is that centaurs have the genes for markings that horses dont and vice versa.
what i hadnt thought about is wether there are in-universe names for centaur-specific patterns. there probably would be, just for convenience's sake if nothing else. like, lydias is pretty easy to concisely describe, shes dappled over her hindquaters, but i havent really thought about how im going to describe beetlejuice when i get to him in running iron. he's streaked, i guess? the markings look a little like flames, maybe i could do something with that for a name.
but out of universe, if you want a peek behind the curtain - lydia is pretty much a modified minecraft horse. i dont actually remember if it was on purpose or not, but at the time of drawing my first centaur lydia i had a black dappled minecraft horse id named lydia, and they look pretty similar
in my head the white dappling was supposed to represent the safety pins on her dress, like little metal pieces catching the light, but tbh its minecraft horse all the way down. side note in this original design the dapples are solidly on her barrel too but as i drew her more i just kinda drifted towards them being in a smaller patch over her hindquaters like the image at the top of the post.
the inspiration/references for beetlejuice came from the game rival stars horse racing - the desktop edition specifically, because that ones got a horse customiser and i was clicking through the patterns in it looking for a way to make him somewhat stripey while still looking like horse markings. looking back through it now i think he was a blend of that games pinto stripe and belly rabicano as well as reference images of actual rabicano horses, which is why his tail is multi-toned.

I had an interesting day at Sunfield Farm today...
I saw this pretty girl turned out with a flaxen Pintaloosa. She didn't want to have anything to do with me, so I promptly asked around Jorvik stables if they knew who she belonged to (she looked miserable compared to the jaunty pintaloosa). They told me that she belongs to Filip Sunfield, and I should go ask him.
So I did. And he said that yes, she belongs to him, but he doesn't want her because she's a "problem horse". "If you can saddle her, you can keep her. Free of charge." Those were his exact words to me.
So, I approached her cautiously, and she gave me the side-eye mare-stare.
I scrambled onto her back and she reared IMMEDIATELY. I'm fine, I probably just sprained an ankle or something.
Then she ran off, and I recollected myself and tried again...
She let me brush her, AND grab her foot! Mr Sunfield was watching in astonishment, not pictured here. After a basic bonding experience, she let me up on her back with no problems.
Mr Sunfield and I loaded her up into the trailer (with much objecting from her) and got her home safe and sound.
She seems to be settling in well, and I think I'll call her Osprey.

Ok Shadow, so I think you're around the age to remember this movie but... remember the movie Spirit stallion of the cimmaron? Well, I was re-listening to the soundtrack and pretty much every song sung by Bryan Adams(Which is the majority of the soundtrack) gives me MAJOR Crosshair and Hunter vibes! Please tell me I'm not the only one that can hear it😭
Anon you just unlocked Shadow trivia XD
Which is also why it took me so long to get to this ask lol
Many people on this hellsite have heard by now that I was the crazy cat girl. Well, that's not all I was. I was also the weird horse girl to a lesser degree XD. Then later from 6th grade-freshman year I was on my school equestrian team. Needless to say I LOVE horses to absolute pieces. And they have such personalities too like its unbelievable.
SO Spirit was actually one of my FAVORITE movies back when I was younger. Think I actually wore out the VHS and had to get it on DVD. Still is one of my fav movies, and recently I watched the Canyon Chase scene for book inspiration (and cried because that scene just... and the music AAAAHHHHHHH). Sound the Bugle also makes me cry every time
All this to say that I DEFINITELY give Hunter and Cross's playlist the songs. Especially "Get Off My Back" and "Can't Take Me". "Here I Am" has vibes for them as well. I know all the songs from that movie by heart and to know that others match them to the boys as well just
YESSSSSS
FUNNILY ENOUGH in a modern AU I have with @soundwavetherav Hunter has a tan sooty buckskin gelding called Havoc because Hunter and Spirit have the same sort of vibe in my mind. The hair may have slight influence there, BUT even so.
Meanwhile Cross gets a blue roan paint mare named Marauder whom is a little shit and cantankerous as all hell just like her rider
Tech also has a mare called Atari, but she hates him. I can't recall if Atari is a bay/chestnut, or if she's rabicano/sabino/overo/tabiano but I know she had a reddish and white color scene.
But yeah! Im RIGHT with you anon.

The Frederiksborger is Denmark's oldest horse breed. They were tremendously popular throughout the Renaissance and Baroque periods and were considered luxury items. Today the breed is rare, but has a loyal following. Stallions and mares undergo studbook inspections before being allowed to breed. They are most often chestnut with white markings.
The Royal Frederiksborg Stud was founded in 1562 under King Frederik II, who populated it with the Neapolitan horse and the Iberian forerunners of the Andalusian horse. As the Norfolk Roadster and Arab-bred horses gained popularity later on, they too were selected to stand at the royal stud. As a courtly mount, the Frederiksborg had to be agile and trainable for the courtiers' pursuits in Haute Ecole and warfare, stylish and high-stepping for parades and court ceremonies, and strong and uniform in appearance to trot before the royal carriages. By the 18th century, the Frederiksborger enjoyed such particular fame that the Danes began to export them in great numbers.
The popularity of the breed took its toll, and in 1839 the royal stud was closed. The breeding of Frederiksborgers continued with private breeders, though the needs of the people reshaped the horse to some degree. Instead of a luxury item, the horses were redirected to be more suitable for the stagecoach and agricultural work. In 1939 efforts to re-establish the breed were started adding East Friesian, Oldenburgs and Thoroughbreds and Arabians later. The modern Danish Warmblood often traces back to the Frederiksborger through the female lines, and as the Danish breeders made use of German and Swedish horses, some part-Frederiksborger mares made their way back into the breeding population. Otherwise, the Frederiksborger has been pure-bred for the past century, which accounts for their uniform type.
Today the numbers of Frederiksborgers are low, but the remaining examples are handsome horses. They are most often vividly-marked flaxen chestnuts, though there are bays, buckskins, palominos, and greys as well. They usually have sabino-type markings and many have rabicano roaning as well. In conformation and type the Frederiksborger was "ahead of its time," and so the horses express great quality and are quite uniform.
The gaits of the Frederiksborger are expressive and powerful, with natural self-carriage. The level topline and high-set neck of the Frederiksborger belie its showy trot. The trot is the best gait and is showy with a long stride. The walk is diligent and open, and the canter is sufficient. Most Frederiksborgers are willing jumpers, though calm-natured horses are less likely to be concerned about knocking rails. Frederiksborgers are best in harness and compete up to the international levels of combined driving. They are also suitable horses for amateurs as they are not selected for sensitivity. There are individuals that are successful in competitive dressage and show jumping, as well.

The Year of Solum Returns
Imber now retires to spend some time reflecting on the current events, allowing Solum to take his turn in the spotlight.
Solum is searching for further aid in Vesanus renovations. Equines of Ortus, Vesanus needs you! Surely you can spare a few items to help an island in need.
Players will be split into three teams, Honestas, Spero, and Formido. When you visit the donation station, Solum will ask you for a random item from your horse’s inventory. If you have none of these items, you may choose to request a different item instead. If you have available donations, you can donate as many of that item as you’d like for points!
You will have a maximum of five donations available at once. Once you’ve donated that many times, you will have to wait. One donation will be restored to you every half hour (up to that max of five).
Donations grant you points, which can be seen in the shop side of the Donation Station. These points can be exchanged in two ways. You can exchange your points for Slate, Solum’s shop token, at a rate of 20 points per one slate, and a maximum of 30 slate per player per day. You can donate your extra points to your team’s score!
What can you get for this slate? I’m glad you asked!
Add A Gene: Brunetus: a good old dusty brown to cover your coat
Add A Gene: Caenos: beautiful brown for your roan, sabino, rabicano, and frost
Add A Gene: Caenos+: extend that beautiful brown to countershading, celo, sooty, and evorsus
Add A Gene: Espresso: the deepest of browns to darken your varia, lacuno, ludopede, frost, brumalis, and splash
Add A Gene: Sigillum: the most lovely of seal brown modifiers for your brown horse
Insta-Companion: Barrington Iguana: an unassuming, spiny friend for your horse
Insta-Companion: Philippine Eagle: a Philippine Eagle a day keeps the monkeys away
Add A Gene: Tinguo (Chocolate Palomino): a pleasant coating of chocolatey palomino for your coat
Add A Gene: Tinguo (Espresso): a darker, moodier coating of espresso for your coat
And of course, Solum's Gift.
Solum’s Gift is Solum’s special item. When used, this item activates a bonus for all leader horses in the faction for 3 days (72 hours - starting from when the item is used). This bonus will increase the leaders’ chances of finding NPCs, and also increase the chance that those NPCs will have more genes!
