Quicken Is Going to Be Discontinued! [Truth Or Rumor]
Quicken is a well-known name for offering a variety of premium money management tools. It provides you with basic to top-tier plans that vary in features. The developer of the Quicken app is Intuit. However, in 2016 it was acquired by H.I.G. Capital. Also, last year (2021), H.I.G. capital sold the software to Aquiline Capital Partners.
Many users assumed that Quicken was going to close its services completely. However, that is not true. Quicken stops offering the benefits of its products after some time. But that does not mean you cannot use Quicken’s other products. Over the years, Quicken has discontinued numerous products. Now, the company is offering finance management tools like Simplifi, Starter, Premier, Deluxe, and Home & Business.
However, some people think that Quicken is going out of business and it is going to be discontinued soon. But that does not seem possible for now. It can be true in the future, though. Keep reading the whole content to know the possible reasons why Quicken might get discontinued.
Quicken: Brief History
The Quicken was first introduced in the 1980s and made a big mark. Soon after its release, it became the most popular personal finance management tool. Its users were happy as it provided every feature to keep their money management on the right track. But, after its alternatives started to emerge, it affected its revenue. And due to that, Intuit sold the Quicken H.I.G capital in 2016. In addition, recently, in 2021, it was sold to Aquiline Capital Partners.
What Could Be The Reason For Its Discontinuation?
Below are mentioned some of the factors that could be responsible for deciding its popularity.
1.   Compatibility
Quicken runs on both Windows and Mac devices. However, both are not compatible with each other. It is very complex or near impossible to transmit data from one operating system to another. Plus, Quicken for Mac looks modern, but its features do not seem up to date.
On the other hand, Quicken for Windows looks outdated but offers top-notch and advanced features.
2.   Pricing
In its early days, Quicken used to offer access to the program forever with one-time purchases. However, after some time, Quicken started to stop the services of its product.
Additionally, Quicken has been offering a yearly subscription plan since 2018. Now, users do not have to upgrade after a few years but renew their plan every year.
3.   Not providing services
Quicken stops providing support services and updates once the subscription plan is complete. Plus, it has discontinued many products in the past. One latest example is Quicken Bill Pay which was stopped in 2020. But they offered a new tool to replace it, the users did not like it though.
What Are The Quicken Products That Have Been Discontinued?
Below are some of the Quicken Products that have been discontinued in the past few years. Quicken Product Discontinuation Date Quicken for Mac 2007 and 2007 for Lion October 2019Quicken 2015 Canada May 31, 2018Quicken 2016 Canada May 30, 2019Quicken 2015 Windows and Mac April 30, 2018Quicken 2016 Windows and Mac April 30, 2019Quicken 2017 US Windows and Mac April 30, 2020 Quicken Bill Pay August 31, 2020
Should Quicken Users Worry?
If you are a Quicken user, you should not worry that you are going to be left without any support. Quicken has been offering finance manager software services for around 40 years. And there have been many ups and downs throughout the years. However, Quicken is still standing strong. Also, there is no news of the discontinuation of Quicken.
Furthermore, Quicken has various premium products. Additionally, its prices have dropped in the new year sale. So, if you are planning to get a Quicken subscription, you can go ahead without any hesitation.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is Quicken only sold as a subscription?
Yes, you can only use the Quicken products only after subscribing to a plan. The company offers a 30-day money-back guarantee if the users are not satisfied with the product. So, you can cancel your subscription within 30 days if you do not want to use the product.
What is the difference between Quicken and Simplifi?
Quicken Simplifi is a dedicated mobile app that can only be used on mobile phones.
On the other hand, Quicken offers various other desktop products. Plus, Desktop products have mobile compatibility and can be accessed on the web.
How many people still use Quicken?
Till now, more than 17 million people have used the Quicken software and taken advantage of its services. Additionally, for its current users, the number is still impressive, as there are 2.5 million active users.

Today I'm helping a #customer convert an old version of quicken to the newest version and because his version is so old the upgrade path is complicated. I'll have to convert his data from earlier versions of quicken and progressively convert and upgrade his data file with each major version of the software until we get to the current version. This is the problem with using old software and not #upgrade it with the times if you go so far outside the supported version you risk losing an upgrade path. He'll be fine now that he's current but he about lost almost 20 years of #financial data because it always "just worked" and there was no reason to change it. Until the computer started to fail... And your early 2000 quicken #software won't be supported on Windows 10/11 it was at that point he realized that he had a problem. So let this be a warning and lesson to all. Don't keep outdated software on your computer. Get Current. Or risk losing what you have. #ComputerSupport #TechnicalSupport #SoftwareSupport #TrainingTutoring #Quicken #OnlineSetup #cloud https://www.instagram.com/p/CoqhHcSrK8-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
