I resent jiang cheng and wei wuxian as a ship so deeply not because I’m going to argue incest but because they are so siblings. yanli too. do you have siblings? trust me they are so siblings. I feel the same way about jingyi and sizhui. siblings. the siblingest sibling energy ever. mdzs has great siblings. lan wangji and lan xichen? amazing. nie huaisang and nie mingjue? stellar. wen qing and wen ning? revolutionary. my only regret is that the jin siblings never got to experience that.

if nie huaisang had a twin he wouldn't just be one of those twins who occasionally swaps places with their sibling — no, no one would even know that he had a twin.
(no one except for qinghe nie, of course.)
the nie twins would be frighteningly dedicated to keeping up the act so that they would only need to do half the work and attend half the classes/conferences/events/etc.
(notice that i didn't say half the training, since unfortunately da-ge is more than aware that he has two brothers, not one.)
the poor lans at cloud recesses would feel like they're absolutely losing their minds since they know they just saw nie huaisang in class with lan qiren less than five minutes ago, but somehow he's now by the river on the other side of cloud recesses?!
can he teleport? can he just move really fast? can he time-travel? is one of them an illusion or a doppelganger? how can he be in two places at the same time?! no one knows!!
and this of course continues at sect conferences, as well — someone will see nie huaisang sitting by his brother in the meeting hall, but when they leave the room and walk down the hall to go outside, there he is peacefully reading a book out in the gardens! how?!
---
the only way they can really be differentiated is by their sabers, which are similar but not quite the same — but that's irrelevant, since nie huaisang is never seen carrying a saber anway, so how is anyone (outside the sect) to notice?
---
they would be absolutely obsessed with making sure that no one outside the sect ever saw them both at the same time, making an effort to disguise the other in ordinary disciple robes, style their hair differently, and even carry a saber any time that the two of them have to be near each other at the same time.
(but only when they have to be near each other — otherwise, they just make an effort to never be seen together.)
---
both of the twins go to the indoctrination, but one of them goes in disguise.
no one's going to notice if a random little nie disciple goes missing, but they will notice if the nie heir himself disappears. so while one of them stays in place, the other goes exploring...
and when the disastrous night hunt happens, they're able to get help.
(—and maybe nie mingjue himself arrives just in time to wrest that stupid cursed sword away from wei wuxian before he can get any bright ideas, saving us all a lot of heartbreak in the long run...)

Nie Mingjue doesn’t like the taste of coffee and so refuses to buy it when they go out, because once you’ve added enough syrup/sugar/etc it’s not even coffee any more so what’s the point in wasting the money on it. He does however need coffee to wake up early: he drinks one cup of instant coffee every morning and hates it.
Nie Huaisang shows up late with a Starbucks always orders elaborate iced lattes with oat milk, three shots of syrup and whipped cream, or iced chai with an extra shot of cinnamon, or iced matcha with vanilla, or etc from his local independent cafe. The staff at first hated him but he tips well and is always really polite (to them: he’s very good at scaring away rude customers).

do people have headcanons for how the Nie mothers died? Is there a non-canon but widely accepted fandom headcanon? I'm curious, we got a death story for their father but not their mothers.

Sitting here toiling in Photoshop with with maps superimposed on each other at various opacities, drawing lines between cities using the scale bar as a base to determine approximate distance, and googling things like "how far can people travel by river per day" so I can accurately gauge how long it'd take for a character to travel on foot and by boat...
And then I remembered that this is the same canon where Wei Wuxian and the Wen sibs walk between Yiling and Lanling in short order even though. Uh.
Tumblr media
maybe this is not a noble means of procrastination after all.

I‘m so sorry for the giant text block but read this and please tell me over what period of time you think all this occurs. jsyk I‘ve cut out a lot
He learned how to love the Earth again; he watches how the tides turned, how plants grew, how he could feel the dirt under his fingertips;...He learns to look at his reflection, without flinching; he learns to appreciate this face, so similar, yet so different, and recognize that it was  his  face. He learned of what he missed, he drank wine from different villages, he took on a nighthunt or two,...and tried to remember what it felt like to be that young...
...
He let himself laugh again, properly, genuinely, and learns to communicate with those who didn’t even speak the same language, it takes stupid gestures and communicating with eyes and even some talismans...
And through it all, he found himself turning to his side, remembering, forgetting, hoping;  aching, to tell everything to a person that wasn’t there...
He tries not to let it bother him; he continues his adventures. He spends a lot of time talking, to his seniors, to those in the hidden corners of wine houses, to even those who barely spoke the same language. He learns, he fights, he drinks, he talks, and he listens even more.
....
The nights when he dreams of dying, when he wonders if any of this was worth it, if anything he does or ever did mattered...
He visits MianMian once, and plays with little MianMian...
After that he visits Qinghe once too, just for old times, just to stir up shit—after all he and Nie Huaisang, they used to be thick as thieves, the troublemakers of Gusu—it’s not the same of course, after everything, but it’s good. They drink wine, they get drunk, Wei Wuxian gets teased...
Then…then he lets himself visit places close to Lotus Pier, he doesn’t go there, he doesn’t dare. Even when his heart pulls at him, begging him to go home, to jump into the water...
He knows even more, however, that even as his heart bleeds in his chest, there is no home there anymore. It hurts at first, when he realizes that when he closes his eyes, it’s not Lotus Pier he sees when he thinks of home...
...
you have your guess? are you ready?
It takes him a month, it’s long and exhausting, it’s a revelation. It feels like a lifetime.
A MONTH!!!!???

Currently coming up with some Nie family headcanons bcs of some oc stuff, so wanted to write it down somewhere.
(Under the cut)
NHS and NMJ’s father was named Nie Jianhao. He had a lot of the same ideals as NMJ, but in a less... naïve way. He knew that things weren't always as black and white as one may think, and while he had a big temper he was quite optimistic, and idealistic. While he wasn’t in love with his first wife, Aifeng, he did respect her and cared for her properly. After she died, he raised one of his concubines, Qingyi, to the status of wife. When Qingyi died giving birth to NHS, he got a lot more volatile and temperamental than before, and when WRH snapped his saber, he went fully mad. He usually went more after NHS since his unconscious mind connected him to Qingyi’s death. That is to say he became downright violent. One of the reasons for NHS’s weak cultivation when he got older was one incident where he took one of Nie Jianhao’s spiritually charged punches to the stomach and almost died.
After Nie Jianhao died, his concubines chose to either work at the Nie sect, become disciples or leave with a pouch of money to do whatever they wanted.
NMJ’s mother was from a minor sect, under the Nie. They were called the Hanlang sect, and they were from some of the coldest mountain in Qinghe. Aifeng was the oldest daughter and therefore the one married away to the ‘highest bidder’, so to say. She was a very clever person, and very good with mathematics. She took her role as Madam Nie very seriously, and always did her best- and she was good at it. While she never cared much for children, she took good care of NMJ whenever she wasnt busy. Which, admittedly was not often. When she was busy, either some servants or Qingyi would take care of NMJ.
NHS’s mother, Qingyi, had been a dancer before becoming Nie Jianhao’s concubine. He was in love with her, but she wasn’t in love with him. She did appreciate him though, and saw him as a very good friend. One of her best friends was Aifeng, and so when she died, Qingyi was devastated. It was her decision to raise NMJ and NHS as close as they were, a decision she made before her death of course.

A lot of people here or at least on this platform really see Yue Qingyuan as like a good person always going on and on about how he is naive or how he wallows in self-pity and over compensates his guilt with letting Shen-jiu getting away with evil and that he's well-intentioned and he's a good guy lol?
I disagree. I know that as a SJ fan a-lot of people tend to dislike Qi-ge as a result because people have biases and yeah it's part that but it's also how utterly useless he is . And tbh is it wrong?.I'm sorry but how is anyone enamored with this character I don't get I can't even ship them that how bad my mind can't comprehend it just can't fit. He fucks up so much and so many go he's team Xiao jiu where? Where is he bro? How come I don't see his help when it most counts? He's against him the most lol. Why does he think so bad of the man who tried to save him when they were kids where is his graciousness does that act seem like a bad person? He has no faith in his character never tried to ever intervene with SJ abuse on LBG, never tried to get to the bottom of his martial siblings feud what scream I favor him most. When the chops are down, he ain't ever there.
He just fucks up more of his life let be honest now had he not existed half the shit wouldn't exist. Am I being harsh yeah. Like liu qinghe is more devoted to his SVSS and they fucking hated each other previously. Where is he then? I get that we can come up with theories or explanations but if it is not in the text then I don't except it as canon.
SJ and Qi-ge is like Madam Yu and Jiang Fenigman and we all know how much of a shit show that turned out. No matter how we slice it SJ to me is a character that fits more into volatile characters like LBG and LQG.
In my opinion, YQY is a different kind of villain compared to traditional ones like SJ himself, the HHP Master, Yu Wanzi, or the infamous "Lou Binghe." His villainy is insidious, stemming from a desperate desire to be perceived as doing the right thing, seeking atonement in an improper way, and longing for the impossible: to recreate the dynamic he had with SJ when they were beggars relying on each other. In pursuit of this unattainable goal, he loses his ability to uphold justice, tainting every action he takes. It's hard to see how he could be considered a good person. Lan Xichen could be seen as a better version of Yue Qingyuan, as he is a more fleshed-out character.
All he has is his tragic backstory without that he's nothing tbh. Like the majority I'm indifferent with this character . I get he has trauma I'm just a bitch who don't give 2 fucks because he's boring and isn't a solid character. I hate pitiful characters who don't act and just wallows in their guilt.
