So I finally got my hands on a ps5 and the first thing I did with it was play my ps4 copy of Shadow of Mordor (as one does) and maaaaannnn im thrown back into how much I love and adore Talion and Celebrimbor but not as this angsty game canon "forced to be together and betray each other" but in a "God wouldn't it be fun if fanon celebrimbor just went off about how much he loves Dwarves and crafting and Talion is being haunted by a loveable and brilliant yet socially naive ages old Elf who is burdened by Elf made horrors beyond comprehension?"
Talion asks about Celebrimbor's skills with a bow and he goes off about his uncles Ambarussa and Celegorm, or asks about Eregion and ruling and he gets tales of Maedhros and Caranthir, maybe Talion has trouble sleeping one night and Celebrimbor sings him a song he learned from his uncle Maglor.
He tells tales of his Dwarven husband Narvi, of his mother who died when Eregion fell, of the young Elven girl he adopted with Narvi as a babe, who kept him going after his husband's passing, and never got to grow up. He learns about cousins and uncles and aunts and grandparents who should by all accounts are important figures of history but Talion only knows of them as Uncle Finarfin that got bit by a swan, or cousin Fingon who once climbed a tree to help Celebrimbor get down and broke a tree branch on his way down and ended up breaking a wrist protecting the young Elf.
For that is all either of them have, just stories to tell of people they have loved and who have moved on without them, by no fault of their own. They are each other's company during such horrible times, and they both care for the other deeply.
When the Age of Elves is at an end and the Shadow is banished, I believe they deserve a kinder ending, one with one last journey together, and being able to visit the White City one last time, maybe having a glimpse of the New King. Maybe They keep walking, passing through the Gap of Rohan and walking into the Land of Holly. Celebrimbor could tell a few more tales, maybe even one of the father he never speaks of. They sit in the ruins of an old castle, one that feels like home to both, and together they pass over to The Halls and whatever the Gift of Men has in store for Talion. A red dawn can kiss the cheek of the body they both inhabited as they leave.

Best of 2020: Game of the Year
Nominee: Ghost of Tsushima
With the launch of one new system the previous incarnation had one last gasp for everyone to behold.
That happens to be a cinematicly pleasing homage to both Kurosawa and a well defined property on its own.
While this runs away with Runner Up status for Game of the Year.
Tumblr media
Jin Sakai lives a modest life on Tsushima Island in mid 13th Century Japan, but when Mongols invade and lay claim Jin loses badly and nearly gets left for dead.
Working from the shadows as a figurative ghost, Jin assembles and learns ways and means to take back the island and free his family and people.
Goregous is an understatement with this, as the developers specifically wanted to target those who know the framework and legends of Kurosawa and his historical epics.
With the estates support the tech can allow players to replicate the style and features down to a t, where hidden fortress and magnificent Japanese 7 can be recreated and perfectly homage with stunning graphics and images.

Glad this was the last thing to come out at the twilight of a console cause this shows just how much could come from it.
And now we wonder what the PS5 version of this will look like.
SUM 22: Jin Sakai leads Ronin and enemy forces alike to retake his homeland in the PS4s swan song.

What a great game. An amazing swan song for the PS4 generation.
Ghost of Tsushima is extremely well-crafted and I gotta hand it to Sucker Punch for their attention to detail. For a new IP from a dev that’s never done anything like this before, they truly succeeded in their endeavor to create something new.
I’ll note that some of the smaller side quests do feel a bit like a slog, but they usually end up making it up through smaller story beats or character/setting development. It is an immense step in the right direction for open-world games.
Tumblr media
As the protagonist, Jin Sakai’s internal and external conflicts are compelling and the artistic design of the environments serve as a narrative element for his journey through the war-torn island of Tsushima. His character and those around him feel believable, and I often sympathized with his decisions amidst hardship.
The game is bloody, fun, engaging and dark but it doesn’t lose track of asking complex questions. What would you sacrifice to save your loved ones? Would you sacrifice the most important aspects of your life and identity to preserve the world around you? Would those sacrifices be worth it?
I love the sense of agency the game delivers to the player by offering up a flexible combat system that enhances the story experience. I often found myself conflicted, wanting to uphold the samurai honor code but failing when faced with seemingly insurmountable odds.
Despite parts of the grind, I enjoyed every second of it. I rarely minded riding Kage/Kaze to a waypoint because of how stunning the environments often were. Money well spent!
Tumblr media
Minor Spoiler:
...
...
...
The ending had elements of what I would’ve liked in TLOU 2. After all, it’s a game. Immersion in gaming can be enhanced by allowing players to serve as active participants. It’s what made Telltale’s narrative-driven games so revolutionary.

this is exactly what i was expecting. HERE WE GO I GUESS
1. What was the name of the first person you ever had a crush on? Why did you like them? Jeremiah. He was my closest friend when we were both like 5 and I always had the best time with him. The next person I had a crush on was Matthew, he was the cutest boy in Kindergarten and just looking at him made me smile. We also shared the same tae kwan do class.
2. What is one thing you regret having done or not done in your life? Um, I don’t think my list of regrets is really big. I can’t really think of anything super prominent. Maybe trying so hard to fit into a crowd that wasn’t meant for me back in middle school. That haunts me.
3. Which parent do you identify with the most? My dad, hands down.
4. What do you think you cook or bake the best? I make some killer scrambled eggies. And if my mom guided me, I could make some good flan.
5. If you could change your first name what would it be? Ooh boy, there’s a LOT of names I really like. LOVE the name Jack and Leonidas though Leonidas feels too badass for me. I’ve tried getting my friends to call me Lee, that’s my middle name.
6. Can you hula hoop? Maybe 2 loops
7. What embarrasses you the most in front of other people? Stuttering
8. Have you considered running for president? I was an avid candidate in first grade.
9. If you had to choose one thing you were most passionate about, what would it be and why? Art, it’s my greatest expression and I’m already passionate about. I wish I was passionate about the acting side of art, but my anxiety and stage fright over shadows it far too much.
10. Who are you most envious of—real or fictional—and why? Always been mad jelly of Beast Boy because I always wanted to be a dog and not a kid with responsiblities, I also always wanted to fly. His voice and the little fang poking out was always so freaking cute to me. And Jeffree Star. Gosh, did you just see his closet vault video? I have a very hard time believing someone has enough money to live the way he lives.
11. Where is the most beautiful place on earth and why? On my last visit to Puerto Rico, my family and I took a day trip to the most gorgeous place I’d ever been. It was this water fall hidden in some forest. I don’t remember what it was called or what city it was in. All you had to do was pay $5 for parking. Getting down there was kind of scary because there was no railing and it was a poorly made pathway down to the waterfall. The closer you got to the water, the muddier the path got, but once you were down there it was so worth it. It was perfectly shaded by the tropical trees. The water was CRYSTAL CLEAR. A bunch of people had brought lawn chairs and coolers and speakers with their own music, don’t ask me how they brought it all down there. Tons of people climbed up the waterfall and jumped down into the pool at the bottom. I never again saw something as beautiful as that and I often dream about it. I hope to go back again one day.
12. Are ghosts real? I don’t want to call my friends liars because they’ve experienced it, but I guess I’m a believe-it-when-i-see-it person in this case, which is so weird because I’m kind of religious too.
13. Are aliens real? Why else are they so secretive about Area 51??
14. How old is the most expired item in your fridge? oof don’t make me get up. My mom doesn’t let shit sit in there for more than 3 days lmao. it’s probably one of the condiments though.
15. What are your favorite style of underwear? I call them lady boxers. They’re closer to boxer-briefs, but like super short. They’re body hugging and make my butt look gr8.
16. What’s the saddest song you’ve ever heard? Um, The cover of Zombie by Bad Wolves makes me really sad rn.
17. How about the sweetest song? Northern Lights by Prototype Raptor makes me feel really good all the time.
18. Do you know how to play dominoes? Yes, surprisingly!!
19. What’s under your bed? My bed doesn’t have an under, it’s a mattress on the floor. Oh, but I have a sketchbook under it because it got bent lol.
20. Have you ever prank called someone? When I was like 8, I wanted to call my dad, but I got the number wrong. I apologized and wound calling the same number a few times, but I didn’t know what was wrong. The lady who answered was forgiving at first, but then the next few times she got really mad and I think that’s where my telephone/social anxiety started. That’s also the closest I got to prank calling. I did eventually get the number right and called my dad.
21. 100 kittens or 3 baby sloths? I have 3 kittens in my backyard rn, so gimme 100 sloths.
22. Are you proud of what you’re doing with your heart and time right now? Um…half yes half no. That’s a loaded question.
23. Why or why not? Healing from some drama, but I feel stuck in life right now, so I’m tryingggg to get unstuck.
24. How many bones have you broken? Exactly Zer0, knock on wood.
25. Have you ever won anything? Big or small? I won an art contest in elementary school. And recently I won a giveaway, I was the 4th winner. But my place expired if I didn’t claim my prize that night, and I saw the email 2 days too late.
26. If you could buy one material thing, and money was not an issue, what would it be? A whole ass house.
27. What’s your favorite movie from your childhood? I always loved The Trumpet of the Swan.
28. What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat? OLIVES
29. What’s the best way to comfort you when you’re having a really terrible day? The company of my friends.
30. Has anything/anyone every saved your life before? My mom did. I was like 7 at a local water park. I went down a waterslide and I fell off the tubing when it hit the pool at the bottom. I couldn’t get my footing and was losing air, OOF. The lifeguard didn’t move to help me or let my mom grab me because I “had it.” Iin fact did not have it. My mom had to push past the lifeguard and scoop me up. Pretty sure that would’ve been the end of me.
31. Would you ever adopt a child? Hm, maybe.
32. What is one thing you’re embarrassed to admit you want to try? You trying to make me embarrass myself? Um, okay I wanna try sensory deprivation and being in a vacbed. Maybe at the same time, who knows?
33. If you were a cake which cake would you be? NAPOLEON
34. What is the most important material possession you have and why? I have a feeeeew. TV, PS4, Laptop and drawing tablet, and my phone. They keep me entertained and connected with the world/help me express myself. If I didn’t have them, I’d probably just lay in my room and stare at the ceiling.
35. What is the most important memory you have and why? The memories of my 2005 Disney vacation with my family. I felt true happiness then.
36. When was the last time you cried? Hm, probably a few weeks ago.
37. How old was your mother when she had you? 28
38. Which famous person would you like to be BFFs with? Shane Dawson looks fun to be around, I feel like I’m already friends with him lmao. Oooh and Oliver Tree is a riot.
39. Is there something you wish you had said sorry for but never did? I’m constantly apologizing so no lmao.
40. Have you been on your first date? If so, how did it go? Never been on a date. Prince Charming, I’m here. Come take me.
Finally, we reach the end. If you read all that, then you’re a real one.

What I like about Kojima is that his new thing is releasing games on the dying gasp of the last console generation.
MGSV came out on the 360/PS3 right as they were dying, and Death Stranding is probably gonna be the PS4′s swan song (if it even makes it out before the PS5)

PlayStation - 2019 and Beyond
As many who follow PlayStation (PS) are aware, PS skipped out on their yearly PSX event last December and also are skipping E3 this year. This brings into question what 2019 will look like for the PS4 platform. We know about of a lot of games in the pipeline, but we don't know a lot of release dates.
Right now, the only thing that we know is releasing in 2019 is Sony Bend's Days Gone, a zombie open world sandbox game. I think this game will sell modestly, but only because by the time it comes out PS4 diehards will be starving for a AAA first party title.
This games existence, and its release window (April) leaves us in a strange spot for The Last of Us Part II. PS probably wouldn't want to step on its own toes and release two zombie focused games even in the same year. Which means that TLOU2 may very well be a PS4 swan song in 2020, much like the first game was for the PS3.
That leaves Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, and Dreams. Kojima's strange and exciting game starring Norman Reedus, Death Stranding is a complete mystery. Who knows what that game even is, let alone when it will come out. Ghost of Tsushima looks good, and is from InFamous developer Sucker Punch, but seeing as it was only announced last E3 and PS has elected to skip two major gaming events where they might announce a 2019 release date, it doesn't look good. For Dreams, Media Molecule's spiritual successor to LittleBigPlanet, I think it is destined to have a small but passionate userbase. It will most likely come out this year (we don't know for sure), but won't set the world on fire.
This potentially means that 2019 will be an extremely barren year for the PS4. Which is an interesting strategy considering that most likely, the PS5 will be announced and released before the end of 2020. So are they going to release a shotgun blast of great games on the PS4 right before launching the PS5? I doubt it.
This begs the question, will some of these come out this year despite how unlikely that is? Or are some of these going to become PS5 launch games? Only time will tell, but I think many PS fans will feel burned after waiting for so long for some of these games, only to be told they need the new console to play them, if they go that route. PlayStation has a huge lead in the console war this generation, and they could easily lose the lead in the transition to the next generation if they don't play their cards right, especially when it seems like Xbox is making all of the right moves.

The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince (PS4) Review & Discussion (Spoiler Warning)
Hello! Here again with another video game review. The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince came out on February 12th in the US for two consoles. I became interested in the game ever since my visit to Akihabara, Japan last year. It turns out that the game had released around the time I had went, and I immediately took a photo of the game to look up what it was about.
During the time, it was only released in Japan, so I was hoping that it would get licensed in the US. After a few months, I heard the creator wanted to get it licensed and eventually it did. I’ve been looking forward to this game for a couple months now, so it was great to finally get to play it.
For this review, I’ll be talking about the game in parts. It will be similar to my KH3 review, but not as long due to Liar Princess & Blind Prince being a shorter game.
Hope you guys enjoy!
Tumblr media
Graphics:
The game’s adorable art style is what got my attention. I remember reading somewhere that the game is hand drawn (please correct me if I am wrong). The art style is cute and really emphasizes that story book theme. I love theme based things, and it added a lot of charm.
Most of the colors are muted to highlight the black outlines and shading. I really like this approach in the art style because it creates bold figures that can be easily identified within all the games stages.
Overall 10/10 for the graphics.
Music:
The soundtrack for the game is fantastic. It sounds very whimsical, and it really matches the mood of the story.
The transitions for the music is on point. I noticed this especially when it introduced the Witch of the forest. You could get that mysterious vibe from the Witch and the forest stages, while the music would change into something more heartfelt and soft when the Princess and Prince interacted.
The ending song was amazing as well. I think it’s the same singer who sings the opening of an otome game called Chronostacia. I first heard the song in the trailers for the game, so I thought it would be the opening song. I am happy that it played at the end though because it felt more fitting and powerful.
I also want to add that the narrator’s voice is great because she changes her voice slightly when she is portraying the characters. It’s very much like if someone were reading the story to you out loud.
Overall, the music gets a 10/10
Gameplay:
If you are ok with escort type missions, then you won’t mind Liar Princess & Blind Prince’s gameplay. It’s similar to the game, Ico, but in a 2D side-scrolling perspective.
The gameplay is simple, but it was still fun and challenging. I like that the puzzles were not too hard or too easy. It was just right to me.
Puzzles where you would direct the Prince from farther away were the more challenging stages that I had the most fun with. The creators thought of some creative puzzles and ways to use the environment of the forest. I specifically like how they used the flower buds to hit switches or attack enemies. There were also the riddle based puzzles that I felt added a lot of variety.
I did notice a couple glitches in the game. Enemies would spazz out or get stuck in certain parts of the stage. The Prince would also glitch a bit where the Princess could not grab his hand, or he would still look like he was running if dragged by a wall as you are jumping to a higher plane. There is also a slight jump lag that can get a bit annoying, so expect a few retries. I would say good timing is what will get you through some of the puzzles. Other than that, the glitches were pretty minor.
9/10 for the gameplay.
Plot:
Most of the time, indie games can be a hit or a miss in terms of story. I think the ending can really determine how players will feel about these shorter titles. One example of a hit for me would be Journey by Thatgamecompany, while The Unfinished Swan by Giant Sparrow was a miss.
For me, the story of the Liar Princess & Blind Prince is truly sweet and meaningful. It’s wholesome and leaves you feeling very satisfied. In this part, I will make comments on parts of the story and the characters.
The beginning of the story is set up nicely and is simple to understand. I like that they mentioned that the Witch was the ruler of the forest from the beginning. This was a good detail to mention from the start because it shows that the Witch was not just added later for plot convenience to heal the Prince’s eyes. There is a lot of depth to the Witch as well from the flower collectables within the game. The player gets to see how the Witch changed as she continued to grant wishes. This is greatly seen when she comes to care for a human girl. She has a lot of texture because due to the human girl getting killed by the villagers in association to her, the Witch sees that taking human lives as a price is not worth it.
At the end of Chapter 1, it was nice to see the interactions between the Wolf Princess and the Prince. The creators did a great job with their scenes because most of them showed the difference in their personalities. It also showed how they got to know each other better.
In one of the first scenes with the Princess giving the Prince raw meat to eat, it really shows that the creators considered how the Princess did not know the common customs of humans. I thought that was a great detail to add, while it also shows how much they still need to learn about each other.
Other aspects of the story that I like were the scenes with the Family of Goats and the Moles. These scenes were meaningful to me because of how it showed the kindness of the Prince. I think the Princess was able to learn from his actions and overall reflect on their circumstances as they traveled to the Witch’s house. I want to add that the Family of Goats actions to not harm the Prince was great because it showed that they appreciated the help they got from the Prince and Princess.
The Ending (skip over if you want to avoid additional spoilers)
As you play, you know at some point that the Prince will find out that the Wolf is the Princess. The way they sorted out all the lies of the Wolf was great because it shows how the Prince’s words to apologize to the Witch about burning the forest has influenced her to atone for the wrong that she has done to him.
I also felt that the Prince was a fantastic character because he was able to forgive the Wolf and knew that her feelings were true. She had good intentions and he saw that.
The use of granting wishes in exchange for the clients’ most important thing is a plot device that has always been interesting to me. If any of you have watched/read Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles or xxxHolic by Clamp, then you will see similarities within this games ending.
Overall, I am very happy with the ending of this game. It was adorable and heartfelt. I love the story’s simplicity, and it gives little life lessons that are important.
Verdict:
I give The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince a 10/10.
This game was definitely worth the buy! Both the story and gameplay were charming. I enjoyed going back to the game to obtain all the trophies. Those gave more of a challenge because the game has you try to not kill enemies or finish a stage within a set time. The flower and petal collectables were great as well to gain more knowledge on the Witch and see concept art of the game.
I hope this review gets players to try out the game, and thanks again to anyone who likes/reads this review.

New PS4 Games Release Dates in 2022
New PS4 Games Release Dates in 2022
@JJ2 There are always going to be comparisons. But I do think a game like Death Stranding would be viewed better as a PS5 launch title rather than a PS4 swan song. Of course if it turns out PS5 is just a PS4 New Pro, meaning it plays all PS4 games but also PS5 games – like the New 3DS – then people won’t have to buy whatever it is that’s released on PS5, they can just keep playing PS4 games in…

Dec. in film + end
I wanted to watch a couple of particular Christmas movies, then I read about a few more, then I was close enough to 31 to keep going, and I got to 34. I tried to be strict about which ones I counted. For instance, Iron Man 3 was not part of the that tally, and neither were the two Home Alones that have nothing to do with Christmas (though I read some arguments that say none of them are Christmas movies). Then I watched Sicario and wanted to watch more Taylor Sheridan films.
For future Christmas, I would rewatch 15, 22, 42 (because hopefully I will forget the wtf twist that makes it so hilariously bad it almost redeems the previous badness), 45, 64.

I did not achieve my writing goal this year. The few things I submitted to rejected my submissions. I did apply to two design contests and won one and was a non-winning judge's choice in the other, so I guess that balanced out.
In total I only got to 287 films this year.
Tumblr media
I did make it to 491 books this year. Many were audio books, some were graphic novels or poetry collections. Variety in type makes it pretty easy to get beyond 365 books in a year for me now.
I felt that I listened to quite a bit of new to me music, but it was actually less than prior years. Roughly 200 albums. [A new control number for next year is 3856]
Not that many tv series, but quite a few seasons since I started the Blacklist, Everybody Loves Raymond, and King of Queens. 84 seasons.

I was told I will probably lose my job in one year, and have determined that I need to learn 3 skills this year to be able to find the new job I would like. That is my key goal. I already have at least 2 books per skill to work through and have made an outline of concepts to master in order of difficulty. I should be finished by August and be able to create a portfolio in the remaining months.

Tagged!
I was tagged again! Woww, thanks @pokengirl2 ! ♥
Rules: Answer these questions and tag 20 blogs you’d like to get to know better
Nickname: I don’t have one :D In my childhood people called me “Jensku” or “Jennuska” but my name (Jenni) is too short to make a nickname XD
Zodiac: Taurus
Height: 5′8″
Time: 1:17pm
Favourite band/artist: Uhmmm, I like Imagine Dragons, Linkin Park (R.I.P Chester ;___;), Coldplay, Starset, Halsey and one Finnish band called Haloo Helsinki! the most :D
Song stuck in my head: I don’t even like this song anymore (because it plays on the radio for like 10 times a day) and it’s in Finnish but here, if you want to listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQedOObEqEE EEEEEEIIIII MITÄÄN HÄTÄÄ, KUN EI OMAT VOIMAT RIITÄNEEEET!!! :’’D
Last movie I saw: The newest movie I saw (which I hadn’t seen before) was Meet the Robinsons :D But last movie overall was Desert Flower, which I watched with my friend last week.
Last thing I googled: “ hey now, just walk away you once know “ I tried to find a song with these lyrics, didn’t find that. :’D Watched a video and liked the song in it.
Other blogs: @joutsentytto It’s with a different account and works like shit, I’m pretty inactive in there because of that. Dash there is really slow and the whole website is slow when I’m on that account and I don’t know why. This account works perfectly, so I don’t think it’s because of my internet.
Do I get asks: Yeah, once in a while. Requests more often, but sometimes some wonderful person drops by to praise my writings and I’m a red burrito roll for the rest of my day :D ♥
Why did I choose this user name: At first it was androidbabes. Then androidbabies (I don’t know why I changed that :DDD) and then I wanted to change back but androidbabes was taken already. So android-babes. But yeah, DBH - androids, I think it’s pretty obvious :D In my other account joutsentytto is a mini version of my philosophy. Joutsentyttö means “swan girl” and I have always thought I am an ugly duckling. But being an ugly duckling only means I get to be a swan someday :3
Following: 73, I’m really bad at following anybody :’D
Average amount of sleep: Uhmmm, I try to sleep that 8-9h but sometimes it may be 12-15h... I could honestly spend all my life in bed if I didn’t need food or didn’t have the need to pee :’D + Writing is the other source of my life and I can’t sleep and write at the same time :’(
Luck number: 7, 23, 5, 95 :D I was born on the 7th of May, 1995 and I’m 23 years old at the moment. So those are my lucky numbers, 23 changes every year.
What I am wearing: Still have my pajamas on :D An Olaf-tanktop where reads “I like hugs!” and Olaf-shorts.
Dream job: Can’t I just write fanfics rest of my life?? :( I don’t have a dream job. Being a writer would be too stressful to me + I don’t even like to write with my own characters in my own world. I wanted to be a professional photographer a few years ago, I went to study that and my passion for photography died when I studied that. I haven’t touched my camera since that at all.
Dream trip: Hmm... I’d love to visit Switzerland BECAUSE OF THOSE LANDSCAPES! :D And Croatia, and Greece, and Spain, and Italy. I’m going with my mom to Lerós, Greece in 2020 summer, I love that island, been there once before, but my mom’s visit would be the first ♥
Favourite Food: Pasta :D My favourite pasta isn’t made by me, though. There’s one Italian restaurant here in Finland where an Italian man makes THE BEST PASTAS AND PIZZAS! ♥
Plany any instruments: I’m self-teaching myself to play piano.
Eye Colour: Bright blue with a small spot of green, but in some light, they may seem green or grey.
Hair colour: Brown. I had a really light brown hair and used to dye it, because I hated that color and now my hair is that color for which I dyed it for years :D
Describe yourself as aesthetic things: keyboard keys, headphones, light blue, yellow, sunlight, tea, books, smile, PS4 controller? Sorry, I don’t know how to be aesthetic XD
Languages you speak: Finnish, English, a little tiny bit of Swedish :D
Most iconic song: Ahem, I was a huuuuge Michael Jackson fan for years (and still am but not that huge XD) soooo... Wanna be startin’ somethin’.
Random Fact: I’ve never had a boyfriend but boys keep crushing on me for some strange reason :D I just never like them back.
Tagging... aahh I don’t know who to tag so I’m going to pick (again) quite randomly :D So I’m sorry if you already have been tagged/already done this.

PS4 Hall of fame
01 Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Nathan Drake’s swan song is a daring evolution. It combines series-defining set-pieces, quietly devastating storytelling beats, and sprawling levels that make you feel like a real-life explorer. This franchise finale retains its signature charm, with the wisecracks firing as fast as the bullets, while the new characters each justify their inclusion. With an…

Biscuit Reviews Ghost of Tsushima
Tumblr media
I’ll be honest, Ghost of Tsushima was a game that wasn’t even on my radar until the entire internet wouldn’t shut up about it. All the screenshots and all of the gushing had me quite curious and having recently finished Yakuza 3, I think I can extend my stay in the game world of the land of the rising sun by going back to its past during the Mongol Invasion.
One interesting tidbit is that the developer for this game is the same developer of the InFamous series, Sucker Punch Productions. If you’re a longtime reader of Biscuit Reviews, you might recall that I reviewed the first InFamous game in the very early days of my time and introduction to Tumblr. For those that might not recall I gave InFamous a 7/10 with my old scoring system, which now I’d probably rate it more along the lines of a 3 out of 5. I will say that playing through Ghost of Tsushima does have me wanting to go back and check out the other two games in the series.
It’s time to give what many gamers are considering, “the swan song of the Playstation 4”, the Biscuit Review.
You play as Jin Sakai, a samurai lord on the island of Tsushima who answers the call of his uncle, Lord Shimura, to fight the Mongols who are invading the island. After Lord Shimura is captured, the samurai forces defeated, Jin is left for dead on the battlefield and is found by a woman named Yuna. Yuna agrees to help Jin on his quest to rescue his uncle and drive away the Mongol invaders. In exchange, she asks Jin for help in rescuing her brother and securing a boat to the Japanese mainland.
Throughout this journey, Jin will turn into the legendary Ghost, a samurai that uses brutal attacks, stealth, and poison to defeat his enemies. It’s this personal journey that causes Jin to question the samurai way which will find him at odds with his uncle.
Despite the game being open-world, it follows the old style of open world games. You have three districts and you only advance to the next district if you advance to a certain point within the campaign. These districts are also designed to reflect Jin’s transformation into the Ghost. The first district encourages fighting head on as Jin is still upholding the samurai ideals. The second district is a mix between head on fighting and stealth. The final district strongly encourages stealth approaches as Jin accepts his title of the Ghost.
As far as open fighting goes, I do love and hate it. I love that you can initiate Standoffs. Jin will call out the enemy to  where they will approach him in a duel to where you wait to release the Triangle button at the perfect moment to instantly kill the opponent. Releasing the button too soon will cause the enemy to land a fatal blow that will drain Jin’s health bar to where one more hit will kill him. There are also various forms to learn and each form is better suited for different opponents which I loved as if I didn’t have the proper form, guarding and parrying an opponent was more difficult. However, learning these forms do require you to seek out Mongol leaders in camps and outposts and defeat them in battle. This makes the first area more important as you will need to take time to do these side objectives to acquire these forms to survive the rest of the game.
However, what I do hate about open fighting is that there isn’t a proper lock-on mechanic. Although Jin will focus on an enemy he is facing, he could easily lose that lock which in turn can turn you around during a fight, leaving you open for an attack. Guarding and parrying was also a bit of a hit and miss for me. Sometimes it would succeed, other times it didn’t register.
As for the stealth mechanics, it was serviceable. You have a bow and arrow that can take down enemies from afar, poison darts, and distraction tools. You can hide behind objects and use tall grass for an up close stealth kill.
There are other tools at your disposable as well such as smoke bombs that will help with a quick getaway or simply stun enemies. Sticky bombs that have an unnatural way of getting stuck to enemies. Throwable kunai that are great with stunning and damaging enemies. Finally, you have powder bombs which act as grenades essentially.
There is also a Resolve meter which allows you to perform special moves and acts as your health reserve pool to where you press down on the D pad to recover some health. This does add a small layer of strategy for combat. Do you use your Resolve to do some heavy damage, special attacks and fight finishers, or do you keep in plentiful supply to heal during an intense battle? Recharging the Resolve is also rather simple as it ranges from defeating enemies, performing successful standoffs, and ending the suffering of your enemies who are gravely wounded in battle.
As for the cosmetics, wow, so many cosmetics. In a time where something like this is nickel and dimed in many games today, the amount of cosmetics in Ghost of Tsushima is insane and all of it is earned or found through quests or simply exploring Tsushima. There are various hats, masks, outfits, and sword sheaths that you pick and customize. The only cosmetic that gives bonuses is the outfit itself. Other stat boosts come from charms that are also found by exploring and through quests.
Now I made a comment earlier about what got me curious about the game was the many screenshots players were taking and I can see why. The island of Tsushima is beautiful. There are so many vistas to just sit back and just take it all in and just marvel at the beauty. Now I understand why there are so many screenshots being shared throughout various social medias.
As far as exploration of the Tsushima, I love how Sucker Punch handled navigation. You have the wind to guide you to your objective. No marker on the screen, no minimap to focus on, just the wind that you can summon by swiping up on the touchpad. This allows you the player to focus more on the world and actually enjoy the sights. You can pull up the map in the menu and place markers, and when you do, the wind will change to guide you to that placed marker. There are also yellow birds that fly and guide you to activities as you travel through Tsushima, which I thought was another great way of the environment keeping you engaged in its world.
Now something that I mentioned in my InFamous review regarding how some edges have their own magnetic field if you don’t jump far enough away from it, said object will jump pull you back to it. It’s still prevalent in this game which now I’m starting to wonder if this might be a staple with Sucker Punch games if this is still present even after playing the first InFamous.
There are also various glitches within the game, some are extremely hilarious such as enemies getting launched from existence after a heavy attack, funny camera glitches when entering or exiting standoffs, and enemies walking into a fire when you initiate a standoff and then dying before it begins. Then you have annoying glitches such as getting stuck on edges you jump off of, enemies getting stuck behind something, or enemies not registering that a standoff occurs.
I know a lot of people compare this game to Assassin’s Creed and I can see it. However, I feel it’s more comparable to Batman as it’s a man that is taking on a mantle of something and instilling fear in his enemies.
If the game was being judged by visuals alone, Ghost of Tsushima would win hands down. This will be looked back as the best looking game of the PS4 generation. Despite quite a few technical hiccups and questionable mechanic choices, it’s still a solid game and definitely worth checking out as a way to say goodbye to the Xbox One/PS4 generation and prepare for the new one.
Ghost of Tsushima receives a really solid 4 out of 5
