A post on Reddit from some time ago suggested a theory that Eldes is actually Michael's father and the reason why he is so insistent on Michael consider his actions at MT. Battle is because he doesn't want him to go down a similar path. Nobody told Michael the identity of his father out of fear he might be doubtful about taking down Cipher because that would make Greevil his grandfather. Out of all the theories this sounds the most plausible given the genetics of hair and some dynamics. Thinking about it...Eldes is calm and collected, considerate of others, somewhat like Michael and he has Red hair, he also uses a Salamance, the Pokémon that Michael uses on the first simulation. Ardos is impulsive and a firecracker despite appearing loyal, willing to do anything to the point of appearing near chaotic kinda like Jovi? Maybe too many assumptions but they make a bit of sense.

Disclaimer: The following screens are from the mod XG: NeXt Gen, where the dialogue is unchanged but the characters names are no longer in all caps:

These screenshots are all the mentions of Michael's dad and his lore. All notion of the Verich Brothers or some other Cipher admin being Michael's father is vastly out-gunned by the game's heavily implied notion of the contrary. There is no evidence to suggest Eldes, nor any other known Cipher Admin, is Michael's dad. His father passed away long ago and Michael canonically suffered depression to an extent as a result. By the looks of it, his dad was a scientist, a friend of Krane, Lily's chosen lover, a skilled battler, and a real family guy. He even gave Michael his first Pokemon, Eevee.
Tumblr media
But don't take my word for it, you can take the game's. People often miss these details about Michael's dad in their playthroughs. Details like these that give Orre that extra dimension, proof of a certain kind of love not found in modern Pokémon games. If you need to disprove someone's theory on Michael's dad, a theory akin to that infamous "Wally being related to N cause of hair color" image, feel free to link them to this master post or use this as a reference point for future theories.

I've heard a lot of things about Orre, it's all been very uh... interesting things though. I've never been there. Can anyone tell me what it's like there?

Since Wes has the only functional model of the Snag Machine in any form, and he went back to blow up the Shadow Pokemon Lab (you know he would), if anyone wanted to make another Snag Machine, they'd have to go through him.
Wes stopped wearing the Snag Machine on his arm, instead hiding it. That way, anyone who wanted the Snag Machine couldn't kill him without losing their only lead.
Unfortunately, because Wes has given his PDA number out, this has led to Professor Krane spamming him with emails asking for the Snag Machine. Wes has told him to fuck off so many times, and it hasn't worked.
Wes is this close to just throwing his PDA into the ocean. If Professor Krane ever showed up in person, he would lose it.

PROFESSOR KRANE
Professor Krane is the regional Professor of Orre. He lives at the Pokemon HQ Lab in the northwestern portion of the region. After the Shadow Pokemon incident, five years after Cole’s journey, Krane and Michael's father began developing a way to purify Shadow Pokemon at a much quicker pace than Cole had to use, which was done by using the Relic Stone in Agate Village with Celebi’s help. The fruit of this research was the Purify Chamber, which has nine sets and is the only way to purify Shadow Lugia.
Cipher kidnaps him due to his research on purification. Cipher Admin Lovrina unsuccessfully attempts to persuade him to assist them in fine-tuning Shadow Lugia code named XD001.
Like all regional Professor’s, Professor Krane gives out Pokemon to Trainers beginning their journey. However, due to the conditions of the region instead of the typical starters water grass and fire he gives out Fire Ground and Steel.
Cole has a very large opinion of Professor Krane, none of it is simply good. He considers the man an idiot and a coward, considering he never once offered to help Cole during his journey to save the region. He knew Krane as a kid, had met the growing Pokemon Professor a lot during their childhood. Though Krane had taken to viewing him as a friend Cole just considered the man an idiot and perhaps on some level a friend (you would be hard pressed to get him to admit that). The purification chamber seems like a joke to him, considering his experience with Shadow Pokemon he feels that taking the effort out of opening their hearts diminishes the effects of helping them. A machine compared to the emotional work and care of freeing a Shadow Pokemon’s heart seems rather cold, more like what Cipher did to create them.
On some very small level he respects Krane. To resist the undoubtable torture that he was put through for the information the man never cracked. However, that’s the most amount of respect he’ll ever have for the man. They simply have to great a difference of opinion regarding how to help the Shadow Pokemon and when to help.

So the first poll was about plant named main game professor's.
And the top 4 were Kukui, Sycamore, Birch, and either Elm or Sada. I'll hold an elimination round later if need be.
There are also a lot of plant named researchers, teachers, and professor's of other fields around the regions. In fact I learned most important characters have a plant based name, but I'm going to sum this up as plant named intellectuals in pokemon (Pt 1), and start with Naranja academy as I said last time. This time with Bonus reaserch
Geeta is named for Sagittaria trifolia, or the three leaf arrowhead, a plant which produces highly nutritious starch tubers
Clavel is Spanish for carnation which is particularly relevant as Paldea is based on Spain. In English it's Clavell, which in Catalan is for carnation and clove. This ties into his fake name Clive which is from Clove and a corruption of Clavell.
Jacq is from Zinnia elegans Jacq, zinnia can be used to treat malaria and stomach pain in folk medicine.
Tyme is a useful and tasty herb
Salvatore is from Salvia which is Spanish for Sage. Also a useful and tasty herb.
Raifort is French for horseraddish, a spicy nutritional plant root
Dendra is intresting in that she is named after a tree. Phellodendron amurense commonly known as the Amur cork tree.
Hassel is named for the Hassaku orange, which comes from a tree.
Saguaro is rather straightforward in that he is named after a cactus which is good for foods use fresh and dried.
Miriam is from Mimosa a species of herbs and shrubs.
Professor Krane's name may be derived from Strelitzia reginae, or a Crane flower, which would make him the first professor to not be named after a tree. His fellow reigon scientist is named Dr. Kaminko, which may be inspired from Koromiko a flowering plant in New Zealand, but there's no real way to be sure, so I'm not including it as a poll option
An odd one, but Neroli is an essential oil gotten from the bitter orange flower.
Professor Fir is from Fir trees

so that funny headcanon sequel au thingie I've been talking about
(warning: the art gets slightly older the further you look)
basically, my idea makes it a trilogy
1 - Sands of Shadows - (Colosseum) Wes and Rui defeat Evice's Cipher 2 - Gale of Darkness - (XD) +5 years, Michael defeats Greevil's Cipher 3 - Mark of Corruption - +2 years?? Rui and Michael defeat Ardos' Cipher. Ardos makes XD002, which is Shadow Wes. Since the hero no longer has the same compassion, he won't stop Cipher. Michael manages the Purification Chamber and Rui takes on the role of snagging Pokémon.
-Ages!! Michael - 13 or 14. Rui - 23-26. Wes - 23-26.
-Wes, Cipher's biggest and most powerful enemy, was secretly taken by Ardos during the events of XD. It was part of why he didn't want his father to give up on Cipher-because he was so close to figuring out how to make Cipher unopposed
-gonna casually skip over the implied Wes torture
-Ardos started up a new Cipher! Wes is being used to steal Pokémon again, this time against his will!!
-The sightings of Wes (reminiscent of the Shadow Togetic guy from Colosseum) stealing people's Pokémon bother Rui, but she's never quite able to catch up to him
-Rui gets the help of Professor Krane, who she heard has a Purification Chamber and Snag Machine. This is when she meets Michael. I'm thinking a similar dynamic to Wes and Rui with the Kids Grid in Colosseum.
-I wanted Rui to be the one to save the day!! so I needed an excuse for Michael not to
-Michael manages the Purification Chamber after it hasn't been used for years.
-Michael has his Sylveon!! This is probably my most important headcanon in this whole thing. He has Sylveon
-Michael is Professor Krane's official assistant. He's too busy to save the day on his own this time.
-Rui wears the Snag Machine (modified version of Michael's)
-Rui ends up fighting against Shadow Wes >:0 it's all epic and stuff
-Wes has a Celebi tattoo on his arm. This is just super important to me
-They all show more skin, except maybe Michael. They live in a desert ok??
-I wanted them all to be a little bit more punk feeling. Not too much with Michael but. idk I love that aesthetic lately. Rui is still visually lighter than Wes, but significantly less conservative than her North American localized outfit
-Duking helps Rui catch a starter. something something Michael's mons are too attached to him. idk
-Starters are Snivy, Mudkip, Fennekin. Caught at the Poke Spots, and only one of each

One of my favorite series is Pokemon, and my favorite spin off is Colosseum and Gale of Darkness.
It shows no gyms, no gym badges to collect. Sure, they're very restrictive of the pokemon you can catch in game, and the plot is very linear, but the fact of the matter is that pokemon are living creatures. They can be influenced just like anything else.
I'm very doubtful any continuation of the series will come, or even remakes sadly, but if there was a new game, I would hope they somehow bring Mewtwo into the mix. Not on the bad side, but ours because it could sense that all we really want is to help the pokemon.
Plus, imagine if someone from the team managed to escape, and knew of Professor Krane's programs that allowed pokemon to be purified through the pc and found a way to do the reverse, since it works one way it makes sense that someone could find a way to make it do the opposite.

So, week one of being pursued by Team Cipher went well-ish. I have decided to name the suicune Comet. She doesn't bite me when I call her that, so that must mean she's fine with it. Oh, by the way, Comet is a she. I know because whenever I use gender-neutral or male pronouns for her, she bites me, but not when I use female ones. It seems some pokemon are sexless, but not genderless. We get along mostly fine, except for when she bites me to express displeasure with something, which seems to be the only emotion she ever has, other than battle-frenzy. She does seem to like headpats, but I genuinely can't tell if it's because she actually enjoys them, or if it's because it puts my hand within optimal biting distance. Incidentally, I happen to be typing this whole post with my right hand. I'm going to need to purify her soon if I want my other hand to survive.
In other news, I got arrested! Turns out, "Here you go, they're your problem now!" isn't a good defense for being caught snagging shadow pokemon in front of an Officer Jenny. Fortunately, I managed to convince her to call Professor Krane, and he cleared things up. Apparently, (overly simplified) by being nice to Comet, I'd gotten the purification process started. Unfortunately, I'm still on the hook for "encouraging dangerous and illegal behaviour" with my original post distributing the snagging app. I really should've seen that one coming.
Even worse, I've been sentenced to 80 hours of community service bringing down team Cipher. Apparently, they're convinced I'm some kind of battling prodigy. I'm really not, I'm just some schmuck who got lucky with a pokeball. I tried asking them to just put me in jail and leave the bringing down a team to someone qualified, but they would have none of it. So, here we are. I think I'm going to look at a guide online and get started building the stalliest team known to 'mon - if I have to suffer through 80 hours of battling, then I'm gonna make damn sure team cipher suffers too.
Also, some important news about the snagging app I distributed in my previous post: The exploits it used got patched, so as of yesterday, it won't work anymore. Props to whoever's in charge of pokesecurity at team Cipher, they work fast! That being said, the goons they sent after me thought this meant I couldn't snag their shadow pokemon - but of course I could! Do they think I've been sitting on my hands all week? Okay, maybe they have a point about my left hand, but I have another one! I won't be distributing the updated version though, both because I don't want to get even more hours of community service added to my sentence, and because I'm pretty sure that having a working example to look at helped team Cipher patch those holes in their security, and I'm done giving them freebies.
