yknow ever since people realized tumblr isnt dead and have decided to flock here from twitter and tiktok ive seen a huge influx of people in fandom spaces who dont reblog anything. at all.
like, i used to have an art blog with 340 followers. not a ton but not a small amount either given how this website works with creators. and in my experience back then even the ones who only left likes still reblogged other things or at least posted their own stuff. literally the only empty blogs were clearly bots.
but on this New art blog, i've had so many people with fandom-specific headers and icons with actual usernames as urls and some kind of title or description, but have. Nothing. no posts. all they do is like things. and it's always public, too. their following list and their likes list.
and honestly all it makes me think is that these people are New and also don't know how tumblr works. how likes don't give exposure. not even in a "oh, i know it doesn't give exposure, but i'm still going to reblog anyways" way, but in a genuine honest to god straight up doesn't realize tumblr likes don't work like twitter's.
PLEASE please if you're from tiktok or twitter or whatever please reblog people's art both fandom and original if you like it!! and maybe actually pad out your blog's content in some way so people won't potentially see you as a bot and block you.
REBLOG ARTIST'S WORK. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY GET ANY ATTENTION ON THIS WEBSITE OH MY GOD. PLEASE. I BEG of you

I feel like some people need to relearn Genre Expectations... "Man, this tragedy sucks!!! Why didn't they just do XYZ, then everything could have ended happily!!" well, then it wouldn't be a tragedy, would it. "Man, this lighthearted teen romcom is terrible, it's so sappy and unrealistic!!" Well, yeah. If it had been gritty and dark, it wouldn't have been a lighthearted romcom, would it. Is the writing actually bad or are you just trying to order a milkshake from a Home Depot

Top-Tier Villain Motivations
They will be safe. It doesn't matter who else or what else burns as long as They will be safe.
I will be safe. The hunger and the cold will never touch me again.
Fuck any bitch who's prettier(/cooler/better-liked/better at making dumplings) than me.
Yes, Master
Love me. Love me. Love me. Love me. LOVE ME!
I know the terrible things these so-called "heroes" will do if I don't stop them (<- is absolutely wrong)
I don't want a better future, I want a better past!
No other way to get performance art funded these days

i think we should remind musicians they can absolutely make up little stories for their songs btw. it doesn鈥檛 have to be about them at all. you can invent a guy and put him in situations to music. time honoured tradition in fact.

choosing to accept Maruki's reality on February 2nd right in front of Akechi's face is literally the worst possible insult and also the cruelest thing you could ever do to Goro Akechi. And the more I think about it the worse it gets.
because all of his fucking life goro akechi was hardly seen as a person. instead, he was an unwanted burden of a child, or a disposable assassin or tool, or some ideal teenage idol. he's been treated more as a doll or a puppet than as a human. and at the end of it all he justifiably decides he's sick of this shit! He wants to reclaim agency over his own life. He wants to be his own fucking person even if it means dying to it that way.
and it's so fucking important that he has so much fucking faith and trust in Joker / you to make the right decision in 3rd semester. He really believes Joker can and will at least respect his autonomy and personhood, unlike everyone else
But if you make the decision to take Maruki's offer, you're taking it all away from him. You break his trust (which he has given to SO FEW PEOPLE) and you take away his agency (in a life where he already had so little) and you essentially confirm to Goro Akechi's face that You don't see him as a person.
You confirm to him that you're exactly like everyone else in his life, in that you want to control him. And it can't even be justified by "I want you alive," because no, you don't want Goro Akechi as a person alive, you want some palatable, idealized version of him.

if i'm being absolutely completely totally honest i think that "it wasn't you" doesn't go far enough in absolving someone of the guilt of being the subject of a brainwashing or mind control plot. because at the end of the day, it was you. it was your body, your mind, potentially even your soul, being stripped of its autonomy, intimately violated and turned against you as much as anyone else. it's a kind of assault, and should be treated as such, especially in more mature narratives. i think that "it wasn't your fault" and "your shame at being made helpless and unable to control your own body and mind's involuntary responses is understandable, but you are not in any way irredeemable or unforgivable because of what was done to you" are also necessary reassurances. and i think that there should be lingering resentment in spite of words of forgiveness and miscommunication and long-term post-traumatic consequences also.

I had a random thought this morning... (SPOILERS for Persona 3, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 Royal Below) But is it really so hard to believe that a blood oath with Akechi would save him from his fate when there's a shit ton of precedent in the Persona series for miracles like this? o.o Persona 3 Portable: Shinjiro lives if you maximize his Social Link. Persona 3 FES and onward, Chidori's life can be saved if you do the right tasks. Persona 4 Golden: Maximize your bond with Marie, she gets to continue living in the human world. I don't think it's a coincidence that only if you maximize your bond with Akechi does he appear in the postcredits. And I hate all the excuses like "we don't know that it's him" because, guys. There is no other character in Persona 5 who wears that outfit. He only appears if you max his link. Why would Atlus tease Akechi's survival, which only happens if you go out of your way to bond with him, just for it to be a rando? They've stated Akechi's survival is up to the player in interviews and that the ending where he walks by is the kind of ending a player who wants him alive would see. And in the Persona world, a strong bond or wish can make miracles happen. You see it with Morgana, too, as his bonds to the Thieves are what allows him to stay in the real world as a cat. If anything, it's a testament to the strength in Akechi and Joker's bond if you have seen it to its conclusion.
I don't think it's a coincidence that when you speak to Muhen on the final day, with a max bond, Joker remembers the glove, remembers their promise, and is adamant that they'll meet again.
This is just a pattern in Persona. A really interesting one. You really don't need a deep, intricate reason for Akechi to live post-Royal (though that can be fun to explore). Sometimes it's just as simple as "a bond can make miracles happen." He gets the endure skill at Rank 10, which lets you survive a fatal attack, and this was only added in Royal. ;)

So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)

Here's the problem with people asking, "Why couldn't Akechi just quit?" First and foremost, he's only powerful in the Metaverse. Shido controls the law. Shido controls the police. Shido has his cleaner. The very moment Akechi signed on with Shido as a fifteen year old, he was trapped, chained, and any moment of rebellion would turn him into a fugitive if he was lucky. Second, even if he quit, who would he turn to back then? He had no allies and started off as a fifteen year old who had probably been booted out of the system (IIRC, you are left to your own devices once you hit 15 in Japan if you don't have an existing guardian). Sure, he could run away and hide in Mementos, but he'd basically be left to hide from the law without any means to protect himself and without any allies to turn to. He could make connections, maybe, but when society had repeatedly crushed his spirit and treated him like shit, he had no reason to believe it'd work. By the time he met Joker, someone who was willing to just be around him, listen, and just let him be at least a little more true to himself, it was too late because he had blood on his hands, was going to have to turn against the Thieves and thus Joker, and it was all a "sacrifice" he would have to make for a plan that was never going to work. A plan made by a broken fifteen year old who had nothing but a false god's "blessings" to give him even a semblance of power in a world where he had been nothing but powerless. And to ignore this aspect of Goro Akechi is to ignore the message the game was trying to convey the entire time. The Phantom Thieves acknowledge his role as a victim- Shido's greatest victim, in fact. They do so without condoning what he did, but also with an understanding that any one of them could have become him. Akechi is a foil to the Thieves in the truest sense, a combination of the individual themes each Phantom Thief represents, stripped of the unity that allowed them each to find power and comradery.
And the greatest tragedy is that the game was rigged against him from the start. He was always chosen to be an agent of chaos by Yaldabaoth, to be alone, angry, and carve a path of destruction. But at one point, he was a traumatized child in a society that condemned him for the circumstances of his birth, which he could not control.
