Even more Samuel art
This one is dedicated to the AU Samuel's I have drawn so far, including ones made by others because the AU's were too cool and wouldn't leave my brain. Putting them under the cut because the art takes up a lotta space.
Starting off, we have Samuel as a Sable mutant! Why? Because yes! Sables are cool
Tumblr media
Next is DCA Samuel, with a heavy inspiration from Poppy Playtime cuz I thought it'd be fun. It was indeed fun.
Tumblr media
And now onto Dragon Shifter Sam! I don't have a lot on him, but I have this so yey
Tumblr media
And now, one of my favourites, Semi-drider Samuel! I'm still sorta trying to figure out the how with this, but he's very silly and feral. I do need to draw another version so he has pedipalps because I forgot to add them :( Also the markings on his legs and chelicerae are paint! Mikey likes to decorate his new features :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now moving onto AU's made by other people, this is Spirits Reborn! Samuel. Essentially, he becomes a creature similar to that of a Protector (a creature I made up to have an excuse to make Samuel a silly massive monster thing), probably gonna call it a Guardian or smth. He basically just does what he can to keep the forest and its occupants safe and whatnot. (The AU is by @/cokoweee, you should totally check it out if you haven't seen it already)
Tumblr media
And finally, last but not least, Samuel if he were in @/Beebopurr's Lighthouse AU! (Another super cool AU you should absolutely check out it's very cool). After some converstaion with one of my moots, Lighthouse Sam ended up being able to essentially become a Kraken, which I have no idea how that would be relevant in the AU at all, but oh well the brainrot is too strong for me to change it. And joyfully, the whole Kraken-ing thing has lore! Which is always fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you got this far, thank you for looking at my post and reading my silliness about my favourite OC I've ever made. Have a lovely day!

Making Time
Mobius M Mobius x Reader
Part 2
My Masterlist
Tumblr media
“1985, huh?” You say, looking up from the briefing Mobius has just handed you.
“Yeah, maybe we’ll spot a delorian?” He jokes, making a Back to the Future reference. You smile at him, remembering when you’d first mentioned the movie. You hadn’t been at the TVA long, to your knowledge.
You’re sat in one of the cafes, explaining something about the timeline to Casey, and you make an offhand reference to the movie. To which, Casey looks even more confused. You glance at Mobius, who’s been sat next to you, watching your teaching with a smile. You offer them both a small smile, at yet another reminder that you’re from somewhere very different from the rest of them.
“Neither of you have seen it have you?” Mobius shakes his head.
“Not a lot of chances for watching movies when dealing with the timeline. Should we get the chance, I’d love to.” It’s a few days later when you give him the chance.
“Honey, I’m home.” You hear Mobius call out, which brings a smile to your face. Whilst you had your own apartment, you much preferred staying with Mobius, like you did when you first arrived at the TVA. You hear him set down a pile of papers in the kitchen, before making his way into the lounge where you’re sat waiting for him. “Hey.”
“Hi.”
“What’s all this?”
“Back to the Future. I went through my file, and managed to find a version that I watched that was uninterrupted. Then I isolated it, and copied it onto one of those cassette reel things, so that it’ll play on your mini projector.” You pause, before adding, “I probably put too much effort into this but, I thought we could have what my time considers a movie night?”
“A movie night?” Your face falls slightly, feeling embarrassed by your suggestion.
“We don’t have to-“ you start. He shrugs off his jacket and settles down next to you.
“Did I not tell you I wanted to watch it, should I get the chance?”
“Well, yeah.” He gestures to the projector.
“Let’s get this show on a roll.” You grin at him, before quickly pressing play on the projector. Mobius leans an arm on the couch and pulls you to his side. “You finally have clearance to access to your file, and you use it to watch Back to the Future?”
“What else was I supposed to do with it?” You joke.
You and Mobius head to the cubicle where you left Loki this morning. You spot him wapping against the desk with a magazine.
“Training going well?” You ask him. He leans back in his chair, attempting to look casual.
“Yeah.”
“Is that my jet ski magazine?” Mobius asks him. “Put it down. Gear up. There's been an attack. Let's go.” He hands Loki the jacket he’s been carrying. You set the briefing down on the desk, and follow Mobius. Loki trails behind you. “Put it on.” Loki shrugs the jacket on, adjusting the collar before posing.
“Nice.” You tell him with a smile.
“Good. Yeah, smart.” Mobius says distractedly. You soon reach the Timedoors, where a small group of hunters have gathered to wait. B-15 opens up the briefing.
“C-20 and her team went dark shortly after they jumped into the 1985 branch. All signs point to another ambush. We've grabbed enough temporal aura to know it's our Loki Variant. But which kind of Loki, remains unknown.”
“They're the lesser kind, to be clear.” Loki specifies. B-15 sighs,
“Let me see the back of that jacket.” Loki does a small turn, showing the group the back of his jacket, where the bright orange letters reading VARIANT stand out. Everyone is the group shares a small smile. You’re glad you don’t have to wear one of those anymore.
“Very subtle. Well done.”
“I don't want anybody out there to forget what you are.”
“Oh, your only hope of capturing a murderer?”
“No. A cosmic mistake.”
“That's enough.” Mobius interrupts.
“Lovely.” You hear Loki murmur.
“Here's the deal.” Mobius begins. “When we get out on the branch, we're not just looking for a Time Criminal. We're looking for a Loki. A variation of this guy. A type we should all be very familiar with, because the TVA has pruned a lotta these guys, almost more than any other Variant.” He skims through a few of the Loki Variants that the TVA have caught before. “And no two are alike. Slight differences in appearances, or not so slight. Different powers, although, powers generally include: shapeshifting, illusion projection, and my favourite-”
“Duplication casting.” Loki interrupts
“Illusion projection.”
“No, they're two completely different powers.”
“How?” You ask him.
“Illusion-projection involves depicting a detailed image from outside oneself, which is perceptible in the external world, whereas duplication-casting entails recreating an exact facsimile of one's own body in its present circumstance, which acts as a true holographic mirror of its molecular structure. But you already knew that.” He explains. You catch a glimpse of Mobius’s smirk before he says,
“Okay, take a breath. Noted. We're gonna break into two teams, including myself and Professor Loki.”
“Why?” A hunter stood beside you asks.
“Because whoever this Variant is, we haven't been able to find him. So let's bring in an expert.” Loki looks around at the group before adding a quiet,
“That's me.”
As the hunters prepare themselves, you hear Loki ask, “Do I get a weapon?” You laugh lightly,
“No chance.”
“Well, I'll have my magic back. Is no one concerned about that?”
“Of what?” Mobius asks.
“Me betraying you.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“You know that we’ll just catch you again.” You tell him.
“And how's betraying us gonna get you any closer to the Time-Keepers?” Mobius adds. Loki leans forward, his attention fixed on Mobius.
“An audience with the Time-Keepers is on the table?”
“Keep that focus.” Mobius tells him. The three of you follow the hunters through the Timedoor, and out into 1985 Wisconsin. Your group makes their way through the crowd of the Renaissance fair before entering a large tent. It’s dark inside, with only a few lanterns to light your path. You watch as B-15 bends down to grasp examine a helmet left abandoned on the floor.
“So he's taking hostages now?” She says, turning to Mobius.
“The Variant's never taken a hostage before.”
“Maybe he's upping his game.”
“Or he pruned her.” One of the hunters remarks, you frown at his callousness towards his colleague.
“A Loki couldn't have gotten the jump on C-20.”
“I think you underestimate, actually...” Loki begins.
“Fan out and search for her. And hurry up, we're at three units until red line.” B-15 orders. Mobius sets a hand on your arm, and the two of you head to the exit.
“Come on.” He says to Loki.
“Wait. If you leave this tent, you'll end up like them.” Mobius stops beside Loki.
“What do you see?”
“I see a scheme, and in that scheme, I see myself.” Loki begins to ramble about an old Asgardian saying.
“Two units. He is wasting our time.” B-15 interrupts.
“Okay. Come on, Loki, make a long story short.” Mobius encourages.
“We need to look for C-20.”
“That's exactly what the Variant wants you to do. It's a trap. He's waiting for you outside this tent.”
“Should I secure the reset charges?”
“No. He wants me. I'm the key to his plan. He knows that I'm stronger. And he rightly believes that together we can overthrow and rule the TVA. But that's not what I want. I have a new purpose. I'm a servant of the Sacred Timeline. And knowing what I now know about his tactics, I can deliver you the Variant, but I need assurances.” He says, looking to Mobius. You glance up at Mobius, frowning slightly. Surely he isn’t believing what Loki’s saying? His eyes catch yours and there’s a small twinkle in them. You hide your smile. Loki circles around Mobius.
“Yeah?” Mobius offers.
“Assurances that I won't be completely disintegrated the moment the job has been done.”
“Right.” Loki leans forward, before whispering,
“We'll need to speak to the Time-Keepers at once. They're in graver danger than we realized.”
“He's lying. Just playing games. There's no one out there.” Mobius calls out to the group.
“Reset the timeline.” B-15 orders.
“You had me for a second. My ears are sharp too.” He points at Loki’s chest. You follow Mobius out of the tent.
“Well that went well.” You remark, hearing Mobius sigh. He runs his hand over his face.
Tumblr media
You’re tucking into your lunch when you spot Mobius. He picks out a drink and a salad before making his way over to you. You give him a small smile,
“Hi.”
“Hey.”
“How did it go with Renslayer?” He sighs, leaning his head back, before getting comfortable in his seat.
“Well, our Loki hasn’t been deleted yet.”
“That’s good then?” You offer. He sighs,
“Yeah. Though he’s getting more and more talkative.”
“You did say he loves to talk. Where is he now?”
“I’ve left him with the archives, hopefully he’ll be reading for the next few days. Or at least long enough for me to finish lunch.” He begins to eat his salad. Just then, Loki scampers in looking like a manic puppy.
“I found something.” Mobius shakes his head, keeping his attention on his lunch,
“No, I said don’t bother me until you've read all the files.”
“I have.”
“Every file?”
“Yes.”
“Pertaining to the Variant?”
“The answer isn't in the files, it's on the timeline. He's hiding in apocalypses.”
“Which apocalypse?” You ask.
“Any time in history? There's, like, a million of 'em.” Mobius adds.
“Ragnarok. Are you familiar?”
“Yes. The destruction of Asgard and most of its people. I'm sorry.” Loki pauses looking down.
“Yes, very sad.” He immediately perks up again. “Anyway, it got me thinking. Nexus events happen when someone does something they're not supposed to do, right?”
“Well, it's a little more complicated, but, yeah.”
“Great. And then that thing they're not supposed to do, cascades into a whole range of other things that aren't supposed to happen.”
“And so on and so forth, until eventually, a new timeline branches. Yes?”
“Chaotic alterations of a predetermined outcome.”
“Exactly. So, let's just say...” He picks up the salad bowl from in front of Mobius.
“Mm-hm. What are you doing?”
“...your salad is Asgard in this scenario.” Loki continues.
“It's not Asgard, that's my lunch.” Mobius complains, the pouting clear in his voice. You lean forward, a hand on your chin to hide the smile at Mobius’s reaction.
“It's a metaphor. Just hang in there.”
“I want that salad.”
“And I could go down to Asgard before Ragnarok causes its complete destruction and I could do anything I wanted. I could, let's say, push the Hulk off the Rainbow Bridge.” He picks up a salt shaker and puts a large sprinkling of salt across Mobius’s salad.
“There he goes.” You say, feeling rather invested in this metaphor.
“The salt's Hulk?” Mobius asks, clearly not as enthusiastic as you.
“And I could also... Set fire to the palace.” He picks up a pepper pot and shakes the pepper across the salad.
“No, just stop. Don't set fire to the palace.”
“Okay? I can do whatever I want to do, and it would never matter. It wouldn't go against the dictates of the timeline because...” He sets down the shakers after nearly emptying them both. He heads to the table behind you. “Excuse me?”
“Oh, God!” Mobius sighs.
“You!” Recognising the voice you look up to see Casey looking very confused.
“Nice to see you. I just need this for a second. Thanks.” Loki picks up Casey’s carton of juice, before sitting back down at your table. “Because the apocalypse is coming. Ragnarok, Surtur will destroy Asgard no matter what I do.”
“No, don't do...” Mobius sighs as Loki empties the carton over the remains of the salad.
“There's the apocalypse.” You say with a sigh, offering Mobius your bag of chips.
“That's the apocalypse?” He asks, taking a handful of chips from you with a smile.
“Ragnarok obliterates the salt. Ragnarok. There it is.” Loki gestures to the ruined salad with a proud smile.
“What am I lookin' at?”
“Okay, it was a clumsy metaphor. But you see what I mean. It doesn't matter. It could be any apocalypse. It could be a tidal wave. It could be a meteor. It could be a volcano, a supernova. If everything and everyone around you is destined for imminent destruction, then nothing that I say or do will matter, because the timeline's not gonna branch. Hence, the Variant could be hiding in the apocalypse and do whatever he wants, and we wouldn't know!”
“Not bad.” You offer.
“Take me to a real apocalypse, to Ragnarok, I'll show you.” Mobius chuckles,
“Yeah. So you can run away back to your homeland? No.”
“No, I'm not going home. We can go anywhere.”
“I'm not taking you for a stroll along the promenade, much less an apocalypse.”
“Oh, Mobius, come on! What could possibly go wrong? We gotta properly test this theory.”
“Well, here's a fun theory. You lure me out into the field, and stab me in the back. And that's a theory I don't wanna test.”
“I'd never stab anyone in the back. That's such a boring form of betrayal.” He most definitely would stab someone in the back.
“Loki, I've studied almost every moment of your entire life. You've literally stabbed people in the back, like 50 times.”
“Well, I'd never do it again, because it got old.” You both laugh at this. Mobius looks at you, and you shrug.
“Might as well try it?” You offer. Mobius nods,
“Okay.”
“Okay, look, you don't trust me, you can trust one thing. I love to be right.” Loki adds. That certainly isn’t a lie.

Fic writer tag game thing
Thanks for the tag, @senadimell!
—————
How many works do you have on a03?
One singular fic: Bailuobo. I have posted one other short fic HERE on Tumblr, and one chapter (so far) of one other looooong form WIP HERE (new chapter coming soon). All are in the MDZS/CQL fandom.
What’s your total a03 word count?
On AO3… 1607 words… 😆
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Well, my one and only AO3 fic currently has 129 kudos… so, I guess that one.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I will talk your ear off in comments. I feed on them. The longer the better. Come quench my comment thirst!
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I’m going to include my unfinished Tolkien mega fic, my unfinished 1929 Wangxian fic, and my own very unfinished original fantasy work in considering this question. Spoiler—not really—but the Tolkien fic spans from the beginning of time to the end of time and ends with the collapse of the universe and yet the ending is extremely happy so not really that one. 1929 Wangxian’s unfinished ending vacillates between angsty/sad and happy/hopeful so that’s up in the air. My original piece is probably the angstiest, honestly, though I do have an unfinished Xenogears fic that is really dark.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
THIS one.
Do you write crossovers? if so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
OK… when I was 9 I started writing what was, I now know, a self-insert fic that crossed…
(oh God)
Ducktales, Star Trek: TNG, and Night Court.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
No, but I if I ever want any I’ll post that Ducktales/Star Trek:TNG/Night Court crossover.
Do you write smut? if so, what kind?
Not as of yet. I think there are a couple scenes in 1929 Wangxian that will qualify it as M but not E, so I guess no smut.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don’t think so, but I have a terrible idea for a Ducktales/Star Trek: TNG/Night Court crossover if you’d like it.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but what an honor that would be!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have not. On the one hand, that sounds like an amazing experience! On the other, have you ever tried to work with me on a creative project?
What’s your all-time favourite ship?
I really can’t pick one. WangXian is my heart right now. I’ve not been a huge shipper in my life, but there are others that are dear to me: Silvergifting, Zelink, I went through a Cloud/Sephiroth phase, a Citan/Yui phase (they’re married so that was convenient), and a very, very long 8th Doctor/a whole lotta people (me?) phase. Heck there was a Scrooge/Goldie phase in 1988 😊.
What’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I don’t know. I may never finish that original work. It’s also possible one strand of the Tolkien mega fic actually IS the contemporary version of that original work.
What are your writing strengths?
I think I sometimes write good prose, and am, at times, even proud of some of it. I sometimes write good dialogue, especially once I get into flow and into the characters’ heads. If I had to pick one aspect that’s the best I’d say descriptive prose is my number one strength—particularly that of setting, mood, and sensory elements, more so than prose that expresses plot and action. I would love to blend what I love most about Tolkien, Shirley Jackson, and Margaret Atwood into my prose.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Plot. Because I often don’t care about it. Just advancing action is hard for me. I also tend to get locked into things during editing. I struggle with TETRISing lines of prose and dialog back together during that stage, because I may know that something needs to change for pacing purposes or information purposes but I like the way the words sound as they are. I also tend to do the same thing I do with my art, which is overwork rather than let things be, leading to a more stilted end result.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I wrote a short play in Spanish years ago, but that was in a school setting; doing it in a fic setting where people who actually speak the language natively might read it… thinking of that gives me hives. So, of course, now I’m writing fic based on a story that originates in Mandarin: RIP me.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Back to the Future! But again, I didn’t know what “fanfiction” or “fandom” was at the time… It was the late 80s.
What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
Probably THIS one again, because I feel like I actually struck a balance of pacing with ornate but not overly ornate prose that expresses the story and emotions I want without being overly literal. My brain is very literal and controlling… when I’m sober. When I wrote the first half of this one I had had two glasses of wine and man the imagery just flowed. (Don’t take this as an endorsement of irresponsible or underage drinking, kids!)
—————
Tagging @thearrogantemu, @wangxianbunnydoodles, @needtherapy, @cortue, @azaisya. No pressure to respond if you don’t want to. If anyone else wants to play please do!

(I've seen a similar post here once, so I'm sure you're familiar with both characters) Can you imagine Elijah Mikaelson (TVD version when no one knew who he was yet) and Jerry Dandridge meeting (some kind of AU maybe?) Jerry has no idea who Elijah is, acting pretty smug thinking he can take this guy down (can he though?) and Elijah is like "I advise you against challenging me, Jeremiah, because the conflict between us would not end well for you." (Sorry I don't know how to sound fancy like him lol)
(I am ^^ And your fancy tone is very good I think XD)
You mean like when he was a villain? XD Thats my favourite Elijah. Even a bit later when he's calmer and just sorta, discussing things with Elena? I love him then too. ANyway-
I don't think Jerry could take Elijah down cuz of the whole Original thing (If we're going by TVD law), but also Lijah has like... uber patience, so it would take a lotta underhanded commentary from Jerry for him to respond... but when he does, oh boy. And Jer's a little shit so I don't doubt he would do this XD Its probably why he had to move to Charlie's town haha XD
I'm just picturing how Jerry finally finds out, and its cuz Billy figured it out and is whispering it in his ear as Elijah's having tea (Pinky out) in the studio, hearing exactly what Billy whispers, and Jerry GULPING. "Well," *Clasps hands together like, I Have To Go* "Fuck."
OMG JERRY'S FULL NAME IS JEREMIAH??????????????????

tagged by @diaz-eddie who knows I 'secretly' enjoy these little things, late as I may be to responding to them
1: Why did you choose your URL?
I do a whole lotta things and wanted a creative outlet to share a whole lotta things. One place I could compile all of it for general consumption. Tina in a can. Go figure lol.
2: Any side blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.
Not on tumblr but I do have a Blogspot/WEBTOON/FB page for my comics, an Insta page for my food adventures & a Soundcloud for my covers. If that counts.
Maybe one day I'll do an online store to sell random crap.
3: How long have you been on tumblr?
Barely a couple of years.
4: Do you have a queue tag?
Haven't been on Tumblr long enough to comment on that.
5: Why did you start your blog in the first place?
I had no plans as such; I only ever came to Tumblr because I needed some place to fulfil my Klaroline fandom needs XD
6: Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
It's quite literally a pictorial version of my URL.
7: Why did you choose your header?
I used one of my favourite KC edits because a) I love making KC edits, b) I love canon-divergent stuff, and c) hey it looks nice in a horizontal format!
8: What’s your post with the most note
Probably one of my KC edits
9: How many mutuals do you have?
90 (I did a quick scroll, so this is my guess???)
10: How many followers do you have?
I don't really... care enough to keep track?
11: How many people do you follow?
64
12: Have you ever made a shitpost?
Nope
13: How often do you use tumblr each day?
Not very often. But there are days I sneak on here to take a peak at some happy gifs/words that I need to boost me through the day :)
14: Did you ever have a fight/argument with another blog once? who won?
I'm too lazy for this.
15: How do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?
Same as I feel about "1 like equals 1 prayer' posts that I used to see on Facebook
16: Do you like tag games?
Yeah I do :) It's not a secret anymore; there's no guarantee I'll do them though!
17: Do you like ask games?
Sure, yeah. Helps me open up a bit & think about stuff that I wouldn't think of otherwise. Fun.
18: Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
Pretty sure I and everyone else on here consider Yokan aka @galvanizedfriend a celebrity at this point but I have a soft corner for @idiot--wind as a KC fic celeb for being one of the first fic authors to welcome me into the KC fic world :)
19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?
I dunno about crushing but there's DEFO some of y'all I'd LOVE to have as room mates in some alternate universe. You KNOW who you are ;)

asks :)
my inbox has once piled up, so to avoid spamming y’all there’s some asks below the cut 💕 - general & fic questions (but no drabbles)
Me re-reading the atsumu bit over and over again getting suspicious of the way he's acting : 👁️👄👁️
Y’all: can Rhi write Atsumu without making him obsessed with the reader?
Magic 8 ball: answer uncertain, try again later 👀
I re-read the new piece and I know it was not your intention, but Bokuto, Hinata and Sakusa's behaviour also strikes me as suspicious 👀(if you know what I mean) just lighter👀 just wanted to let you know 😅
This made me laugh. Look, I say with all of my fics - a lot of it is up for interpretation, read into stuff how you want to, but it wasn’t intentional haha
Bro your like my favourite yandere writer ever, so please don't feel pressured to fulfill requests if you wanna do your own writing then please do anything you write is literally gold and I'll always read your stuff (even if it's for a fandom I'm not even in your that good) 💖
I cannot tell you how many fandoms I got into because I started reading fics from amazing writers without having watched the source material, so this is super sweet! Thank you, bby!!
i just read your fic "like nobody else" and the related drabbles (the post supply closet scene and the noya/tanaka version) and i must say you are an amazing writer! the word "lovely" came to mind to describe your work but it somehow feels wrong considering the nature of the content. even so, i really liked how you made it feel like the reader may have had a chance to escape, yet it was all futile in the end. definitely going to read your entire masterlist and patiently wait for your new works. - @glaringlights
Ahh thank you so much!!! I’m a bit of a sucker for yandere team ups and soulmate au’s so it’s always gonna be something I’m happy to write for!
Hey bby! 🥺 Sorry for bothering u, but i was wondering what happens after "Honey, make this easy"? Do you think Kageyama finds out that it's Suga that took away his s/o?
Oh Kageyama will definitely figure it out real quick. He realises that she’s gone probably only a few minutes after Suga takes her - of course he can’t go into a full freak out, especially around the others, but he knows she just wouldn’t leave. Don’t forget that despite the yandere tendencies and the abuse - their relationship is still ‘normal’ on the surface - she’s not locked away, he’s not forcing her to be with him (well, he is, but not in the traditional sense). He knows she’s not actively looking for an escape, so someone has to have taken her. And what do you know, there’s only one other person who’s missing from the reunion - strange that Suga left without saying goodbye.
pls stop being a good writer I can't take it 😔👊
Next fic, I promise bby 😌
Hello! I just finished reading all of your stories on Ao3 and i claim i have officially become a hoe for your manager au fic.I love so much team dynamic!!I hope you will write more:).
Team manager fics were not something I really intended on doing as much on, but it’s strangely addictive, and so fun to play with all the dynamics within a team. And yeah, Inarizaki manager au will be out in the next few days, and I’m debating about doing either a Nekoma, MSBY or Karasuno one as well... Maybe.Thank you!!
🅱️lease tell us what atsumu said in reply to reader at the end that ticked kuroo off so much (honestly i know it was prob mostly innocuous but pLeAsE)
also, that ᵗᶦⁿʸ bit of softness from sakusa toward reader? I MELTED 😭😭
I’m assuming these were both sent by the same anon?
It’s not so much what he says, at least not his immediate reply, but scrolling back through the text conversation reveals a number of messages that piss him off (and the fact you’re messaging him at all tbh)
But for the record - Have I ever let ya down?
Also, Sakusa is one of those characters I was kinda ehh about initially. Like he’s pretty but didn’t really do much for me. Now however, I am a certified Sakusa Simp™ and I could not resist dropping a slightly soft Kiyoomi 😌
And then there were two was so good it cleared my headache with one read 💖💖
THANK YOU!! Also I hope you’re feeling better, anon!
Yan! Terushima has been living in my head rent free since you released your Run, Rabbit. How would he proceed after they get home? Would he force her to be his girlfriend?
Oh yeah. You’re such a meek, shy little thing, so easy to manipulate. You twwo had had sex, you didn’t say no, he made you cum (so many times) - of course you’re together. After all, you wouldn’t sleep with somebody you weren’t in a relationship with, right? Only desperate whores do that. Besides, it not like he gives you a chance to deny it - not when Bobata and your friend return to find the two of you naked and in bed together 👀
IT WAS SO GOOD. THE KUROO X MANAGER UGHH. Like I can imagine after Kuroo kissed the s/o and get into 18+ acts. He would call Atsumu to let him know that he did the deed. I'm sorry, it's just really good. You're one good author.
Ahh thank you so much, bby! I don’t necessarily think he’d call Atsumu, because to him Atsumu’s a cocky piece of shit not worth bothering about, but he’d definitely take a whole lotta joy out of dropping you off at training the next morning, covered in love bites and hickeys, legs still a little shaky with that beautiful glazed over look in your eyes, and watching his reaction.

Quill’s STS Catchup
I’m playing catchup with STS asks! Some of these are... from well over a year ago. Oops. ^^’
Thank you folks for all sending such marvelous asks, and I’m sorry it took me so long to get to answering them!!
@ettawritesnstudies asked:
Hello there! For STS: what is your favorite type of sea creature that you wanted to put in OSS but weren't able to? If this doesn't apply, what are your top 5 favorite sea creatures that did make it into OSS?
I have an absolute ton of cephalopods that I wanted to put in but wasn’t able to! Like the mimic octopus, or dumbo octopus, or cuttlefish? I love them all so much but I just couldn’t find a place for them. ALSO SEA OTTERS. I really wanted sea otters. :c That said, a few of my favourite sea creatures I was able to base sirens off of! Like the firefly squid, a speckled flying fish, a leafy sea dragon, several betta fish, and a sailfish!
@musicofglassandwords asked:
storyteller saturday!! who's your most secretive OC and why is this? Do you have any OP characters and if you do, how are they OP? Favorite snack/dessert of your favorite OC?
I think Dione fits both the first and second question! She definitely keeps a whole lotta secrets, and mostly because one: she’s scared of what will happen if the truth gets out, and two: she’s protecting others from the truth! The reason she’s OP? She’s just. A heckin’ powerful three centuries old sea witch.
And Xuân’s favourite snack is munching on dried nori! I personally love this salty snack so much and if I can get my hands on it, it’ll disappear in less than a minute.
@ccwritesstuff asked:
happy STS! If your characters had to choose, what would be their favorite games to play, be it board, card or video games! ive been playing a lot of three houses recently so... yah. kinda inspired or stm like that
I don’t really know many board games that existed during the time of OSS! I’ll tell you that Emery, from my new wip CIRCUIT, absolutely loves UNO. He wins every time.
@maxgraybooks asked:
Happy sts! Who are your most eccentric characters?
Oh my good stars. Pretty much EVERY one of my characters is super eccentric! That’s just the way I am. XD I think Captain Xuân would be my most eccentric, though? Based on the way they act, plus the way they dress... they love to act especially weird, since they love being the center of attention!
@geth-consensus asked:
Storyteller Saturday! What's the most ridiculous scene you've ever written? As in what's actually occurring in the scene itself.
Probably when my two characters who are over three centuries old stick their tongues out at each other.
@livvywrites asked:
STS!! Do you have strong associations with any of your characters? If so, what are they? | What are your mains favorite weather conditions? | What originally inspired you to write One Siren’s Soul?? | Do you have any other large projects planned for the future??
Ohh!! I have a bunch of strong associations but a lot of them are spoilers, because I LOVE foreshadowing through symbolism! Let’s just say... storms play an important role for Celestine~
Favourite weather conditions! Celestine: Dry as a desert - Dione: Gentle snow - Caelin: Light rain that he can run around in - Phoenix: Clear night, somewhat cool, perfect for a bonfire
And original inspiration? I mean... I was obsessed with pirate and adventure stories for a while there... PoTC, Our Bloody Pearl, Treasure Planet? Plus then there was all the ocean stuff I was doing in biology at the time. ^^
And I have CIRCUIT and The Mirror’s Rifts that I’m also working on!
@ditzysworld asked:
Storyteller saturdayyy!!!! what colours do you associate with your main OCs and why?-ditzysworld
OH STARS. I love colours so much!!! I won’t explain why because that tends to be spoilerish, or really obvious!
Celestine: Dark blue, celestine blue, maroon.
Dione: Inky black, deep brown, pale green, vivid leaf green.
Caelin: Browns, beiges, dark blue.
Phoenix: RED. BRILLIANT RED.
@evelyns-spilled-tea asked:
Oh shoot it's that time already; Happy Storyteller Saturday! What're the differences between your characters and the idealized versions of themselves they wish they could be?
Celestine wishes she could get rid of her stupid fear.
Dione wishes she could be less of a coward, and could make up for the mistakes she did in the past. Also, she wishes she could control her temper.
Caelin wishes he would be less useless and oblivious.
Phoenix wishes she could be less scary.
@lordkingsmith asked:
story teller saturday trying again lol: what symbolism shows up in your works and what's your favorite to write about?
SYMBOLISM IS A MAJOR THING IN OSS. Some main things to look out for: Storms, ice, colours, and flowers! My favourite thing to write about? Uhhh... I really heckin’ love writing about geology and gemstones. I’m a Rock Nerd~
@lottieiswriting asked:
Storyteller Saturday but a day late (is storyteller Sunday a thing?) What would you say is the biggest flaw of your main character, and who would you say out of all of your characters has the worst / biggest flaw that causes the most problems? Hope you don’t mind my late ask!
I’M PROLLY A NUMBER OF MONTHS LATE SO NO SWEAT, MATE.
Celestine’s major flaw is her inability to trust people! And Dione’s flaws, her selfishness, is the one that causes the most problems throughout the story!
@timefirewrites asked:
Happy Storyteller Saturday! I'm sure you know at least one scene where there's suddenly a clone/doppelgänger/etc. of a character and they have to convince their friends that they're the original. How would your ocs do that? Would they succeed? What's a dish related to your ocs? (Be it inspired by them, or relating to their story in some way or simply by being their favorite food)
alfkjsldgkjsdg I love this trope. I don’t think it pops up in OSS? But it does in CIRCUIT! But if Celestine had a doppelgänger: she would likely convince everyone it’s her by insulting people with the unique insult-nicknames she has for everyone. XD For example: she only ever calls Phoenix “idiot”! Poor Nixi. And Celestine’s favourite dish of all time is PANCAKES.
@ditzysworld asked:
happy storyteller saturday! do you have any WIP ideas that you never really ended up pursuing, and why didn't you? -ditzysworld
My first attempt at a major novel that actually got anywhere was Soul Tied! It was about shapeshifters and dragons and the chosen one trope, but with twins! Mainly, I never really had an idea of where the story was going to go, and my outlining skills sucked at that stage.
@aslanwrites asked:
STS!! Would you ever write a self insert? Which OC do you relate to the most?
I actually make a small cameo in OSS! The lighthouse keeper that tries to stop Phoenix from destroying their lighthouse is based almost completely on me~
And as for who I relate to the most: Caelin! Originally, Caelin’s character was a persona of mine!
@tragedyshow asked:
sts!! what would your MCs animgi forms be? Their patronus and boggarts?
I know next to nothing about Harry Potter, but let’s see! (I actually see their patronus and animgi forms being the same creature, so I’ll just be answering with two!)
Celestine: Magpie, a giant heckin’ tidal wave.
Dione: Stag, a giant fire creature.
Caelin: Puppy!! Pup!! He literally turns into a border collie in canon!! AND FREAKIN’ MANNEQUINS I HATE THEM.
Phoenix: Can I make it a phoenix? Is that allowed? And a zombie or other clearly undead thing!
@fair-folk-nonsense asked:
Happy STS! What are your character’s worst fears and how do they deal with them? ~fair-folk-nonsense
Celestine’s worst fear is water! Or getting close to someone only to lose them again. And they usually deal with it either by running away as fast as they can, or denying everything. :/
That’s 15 asks answered! Phew~ Tune in next time for even more. XD

I finallyyyy finished Bannlyst. I became slower and slower at reading it over time because the book, uh, starts out great but loses a lot of steam and gets progressively more unrealistic as it goes on.
The beginning is awesome, reading the first scene online was what convinced me to buy the book. The scene is about an old married couple, the parents of the protagonist, sitting outside one Sunday evening and talking. The way the scene is written, with all those little observations about the dynamics that develop between two people who have been together for decades, was a delight to read. He tells her what’s in the newspaper because that’s what he always does, and she lets him talk because he enjoys it so much but she doesn’t really care what he says and thinks about other things instead, but he knows full well that she doesn’t listen and intentionally gets her attention later and alludes to their son coming home which he’d been talking about but she doesn’t know and he relishes her confusion because if you had listened like you pretended... then she becomes angry and he drops the smugness and placates her because if she talks herself into a rage, then...
So I buy the book and no other scene in the rest of the novel is like that.
Which is not to say the book is bad, there’s plenty of good. Lotta was definitely the best part of the book, she should have been the main character... somehow. She is in contact with God and gets divine visions which are canonically real and truthful! The part where she talks of her youth was my favourite part of the book. There’s so much mystery and intensity in her tale. She’s way more interesting than Sven and Sigrun. I know that “being sidelined and not living up to her potential” is established as a big theme in in her life when she is first introduced but 1) that’s no reason for the author to treat her the same way and 2) that theme is somehow dropped completely after the initial conversation between her and Sven ends and is never mentioned again. For the rest of the book, Lotta is happy working for Sigrun and Edvard and helping Sigrun with her escape plan. I found Lotta’s situation very intriguing when she was first introduced - growing up having visions, convinced of her special status, of her grand fate, and then to have nothing come of it, to have her visions ignored by everyone, having to work in a factory, being sort-of-betrayed by her crush friend... that’s fascinating, tragic, relatable, and would have merited a much fuller exploration. But it’s never mentioned again and instead Sigrun and Edvard take center stage for the rest of the second and most of the third act.
And, yes, Sigrun and Edvard. I hated their relationship. When she and Sven first met, I thought they’d end up together. It would have been beautiful. The book would have spent much of its space on these two sensitive, wounded souls slowly getting to know each other in secret, each being appreciated for their kindness and generosity... after their boat ride I was totally on-board, no pun intended, to read a touching romance. And they do get together, but only at the very end after a lot of not being in contact at all, after unnecessary stuff that doesn’t add to their romance and when it does happen, it’s just weirdly, shortly mentioned, Sigrun is suddenly in love with him but also not and... then it isn’t mentioned again?
Sven was in love with her the whole time but his love for her is never really explored, apparently that one boat ride impressed him so much? Or it was just her beauty and kindness, the same thing that fascinates Lotta? I understand if he idealizes her because she’s the only one except for his parents who shows him any kindness when he’s made an outcast, but if so, then he spends years of his life longing for an idealized version of a woman he barely knows, which, again, relatable and touching, but then this should be explored as a function of his lack of real human connections and his emotional need for someone to rescue him from his messed-up life. Instead it’s just said and alluded to a lot that he’s in love with her and that’s that.
And Sigrun’s feelings for both Sven and Edvard are all over the place. I don’t even know what to make of them. Speaking of Edvard, I hated his redemption arc. I thought it was unrealistic and corny. He’s clearly abusive, which becomes especially clear when he enters the room to chase the old guy who was talking to Sigrun away (which in itself is fucked up of course) and Sigrun tells the old guy to run, which tells the reader clearly that stuff like that has happened before. He’s dismissive and possessive towards Sigrun from the beginning, even Sven knows right away (for some reason?) that he might kill her from jealousy. And then Edvard just... realizes he was wrong because he listens to Sigrun and Sven’s conversation at Rhånge, changes completely and becomes chill and not possessive at all? ...right. Not how abusers act, but good for Selma Lagerlöf that she didn’t know that!
Toward the end the story gets more and more unrealistic. Things just come together because they have to, against all odds. Maybe we’re supposed to think that God directs the whole thing because he wants it to happen - this is kind of a theme after all, though the end directly contradicts this idea - but everything that happens from the moment when Sven’s wife shows up at Sigrun’s door is just wayyy too convenient and I rolled my eyes a lot at everything that happened afterwards.
And then there’s the ending, which is just terrible. Every character who has ever said anything bad about Sven goes up to him and apologizes, then Edvard holds a several pages long sermon (not even a term I use dismissively, he’s an actual priest holding an actual sermon) about how awesome Sven is, everyone forgives one another, then Lotta has a vision about how war is wrong, then the whole class gets up and claps, Sven lives with Sigrun for another year until he dies from happiness. Oh, and the most absurdly unrealistic thing in the whole book happens when Edvard just so conveniently finds a letter on an English corpse that just so happens to be addressed to Sven’s foster parents and that just so happens to talk about how Sven is actually not guilty about cannibalism.
We are also told (much too clearly) the moral of the story which is completely absent for much of the book. I had skimmed the Wikipedia summary of the book before reading the book itself and it said that the major theme in the book is how crimes against the living are worse than crimes against the dead and therefore war is the worst crime, but most of the book just isn’t about that at all. Most of the book has nothing to do with that moral. At first, when Sven keeps getting shunned by everyone, I thought the book was going to show how these “respectable” people who think they’re better than Sven are actually way worse than him, but they for the most part remain a faceless collective and these stories seem to only be there to show us what a good person Sven is.
Sven is, by the way, a really good person and I liked that little detail about how he wears “that patient little smile” whenever things are going particularly badly and he just agrees with everything and tries to please everyone - and when he’s feeling better he doesn’t have that smile and he actually stands up for himself. That was a great idea by the author - the common view is that you get cranky when you’re feeling bad and are friendlier when you feel well, but if you’re a low status person (or are used to being treated like one), complying is a lower energy behaviour than insisting on your worth - and I wish she had fleshed out the character more like this. He seems more like a symbolic stand-in for the idea of altruism, which would have been fine if the anti-war message had been stronger and the whole book had been more like an analogy, but since it isn’t, he should have been a more distinctive character. Same with Sigrun, actually, who too is all goodness and patience.
In the end, it was the psychological simplicity and the contrived plot that made me slow to finish the book. But there were a lot of good things too and considering how slow I still am at reading in Swedish, I wouldn’t have finished the book at all if I hadn’t liked it. What will stick with me is more certain scenes of the books that are particularly vivid, especially from Lotta’s tale of her youth, which, as I said, was the part I liked the most (but probably also the part that has the least to do with the overall plot).

CutCat’s Favourite Disney Animated Canon
I’m pretty sure everyone and their grandma has already written something along the lines of “Disney was a big part of my childhood” before divulging into some bigass essay. This won’t be much different lmao
But still, I’m not making an objective list, it’s coloured by my own experiences watching the films. Some old Classics won’t even make the Top Ten because I personally didn’t get particularly into them. My favourite may or may not be the best across the board.
Also yeah, I’m not touching on all Fiftysomething films, I’m actually just gonna start with the Top Ten and whittle them down to the last one standing. I haven’t seen all of them so ones I may really dig, like Moana, hafta wait until I can judge for myself. I’ll try to cover all the things I’ve listed, even if it’s as they’ve been eliminated.
This may even be fun for other people to do, maybe!
We’ll return to our scheduled programming after the Cut! 😺✂
Ok I lied, I’ll list the Top 10 and then mention things that didn’t get quite that far, but it won’t take long.
TOP 10
(In order of release, not preference)
Pinocchio
Alice in Wonderland
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
The Lion King
Mulan
Frozen
Zootopia
Honourable Mentions: Spider-Man: Homecoming (isn’t Disney Animated Canon even though it’s Marvel and therefore Disney lol), Epic Mickey as the story and gameplay and atmosphere is really great, but it’s a game instead of an animated film, and Sleeping Beauty. SB misses out because while the Animation is gorgeous and the Fairies and Maleficent are fantastic characters, the human leads drag it down.
Anyway, time to half that list! Same ordering rules as before:
TOP 5
Pinocchio
Alice in Wonderland
The Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
Yeah, that’s right! The Lion King is already out! I know, I’m a fraud!!
Ok so like, I’m very much a cat person and I do love the film. Top 10 is still respectable! But hoo boy, I love the first act and the Celestial Mufasa scenes, but the middle and in some ways the climax kinda let it down for me. And I’m not fond of Timon and Pumbaa. Timon most of all. tsk tsk
But anyway, before I crossed off TLK, the CGI films were shed and I’m never going to fully get over the death of traditional animation. Frozen and Zootopia are both hella rad but their success also feel like even more nails in Hand-drawn animation’s coffin. Imagine what those films would be like, drawn...! Woaaah
WtP and Mulan are also not to be sneezed at, accomplishing very different narrative but doing both so well. I just feel that Pooh’s 3-shorts format kinda disqualifies it from being my favourite Disney Story and while Mulan is so great, it just lacks something that keeps the others firmly placed. I dunno, it’s more of a gut feeling than a well reasoned argument, lol
Time for 2 more eliminations! Now we’re left with:
TOP 3
Pinocchio
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
Alice in Wonderland may not be the most faithful adaptation, but I don’t care. I’ve read both the original books and the main thing Disney does is to discard Through the Looking Glass while taking a couple of small parts of that and putting it into Wonderland. It’s very pretty, very funny and Alice is a likable protagonist, even as Wonderland’s wackiness tries to wear her down.
The Little Mermaid was always something I liked, but never quite as much as, say, Beauty and the Beast. Even with the gorgeous Underwater Aesthetics, which I’m very fond of, didn’t quite make it. Though actually I like it more now than I did before, knowing Eric is voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes, who did the 90s Spider-Man!! :D
Ok, things are heating the heck up in the list, only two seperate cuts left to make~
The surviving films, for now, are:
TOP 2
Pinocchio
Beauty and the Beast
Yep! Bye-bye, Aladdin, Bye-Bye~
Ok this actually annoys me a bit though lmao
Aladdin would have a really damn good shot as my favourite. It’s colourful, it’s hilarious, it’s compelling! It! It... kinda traumatised me a bit as a young girl and I still feel distinctly uncomfortable about the scene in question even today. It poisons the whole damn film for me as I hafta deal with dread as I watch it. That sucks!!
Objectively, it’s amazing, but as I said, this is my Personal List, so it loses heavy points based on that.
Ok, now the hardest part. Picking between the last two.
I didn’t start this list because I already had a choice picked, I did it because I was curious which I do dig the most.
...
For a long time, if I was asked I’d usually go ‘Uhhhhh Beauty and the Beast, I think!’.
But while B and the B is brilliant and breathtaking and ...uhhh.... bombastic, part of it winning was by default (The two sweetest words in the English Language!)
Y’see, I feel, as a whole, for some curious reason, we forget about Pinocchio.
Ok that’s enough commas for now. But it’s weird! Pinocchio was hot on the heels of Snow White, the big show starter! It’s better than Snow White!! It’s actually rated the highest of all the D.A.C. on Rotten Tomatoes! Critics and normal audience alike love it!
So how come no one talks about it? I can see why it got overlooked in 1940, what with a large and notable war happening, but I literally never come across any Meta or Discussion about it or the themes or the look--
I’m gonna properly talk about it in a sec though, hahaa
So! Beauty and The Beast! An old favourite and nearly top dog in my esteem. It has it all, catchy songs, interesting characters, stunning designs, a whole load of Youtubepoops using footage from it. But it does not have Stockholm Syndrome, you foolish buffoons. Belle only starts to develop feeling for Beast after he becomes less Beastly. THAT’S THE POINT OF THE STORY. BEAST HAS! TO! CHANGE!!
And overall it does a damn good job at this~
Ok, so we already know the winner but it deserves a bit of fanfare for actually doing so well!
NUMBER 1!
TOP DISNEY ANIMATED CANON FILM
(ACCORDING TO CUTCAT) :
PINOCCHIO
I love Pinocchio so, so much!
And not just the film as a whole, the character too! Which is a very important factor here. I’m not saying the rejected films didn’t have strong characters, not at all! But this ties in with the Forgotten sort of vibe I get from the lack of buzz with this film.
Quick! Think of a scene from Pinocchio! Just one, if you can manage it.
Now, I may be way off with my presumption here, but was it the thing about his nose growing when he lies? Or was it maybe his desire to become a Real Boy™?
If you thought of any other moment, my kudos to you. It’s just, I feel that pop culture as a whole likes to harp on those points, which are either one short [but yeah, memorable] scene and the ultimate goal. And not to point fingers, but heck, why not. I blame Shrek a good deal for this, as those are the only memorable traits from their version of him. This may sound unfair, Dreamworks are doing a different take on the same character that Disney didn’t create but instead adapted from a book, but that’s mostly reflected in the vastly different designs (as in Shrek!Pinocchio looks closer to the original book version), but on the other hand Shrek started off by riffing on what Disney did and then kind of mutated into what they were mocking after the second film. Oops.
While mentioning the book, I do not give a rat’s ass that Disney’s version deviates as much as it does, they improved every point adapted. I also really can’t imagine the film doing nearly so well if it had the creepyass vibe for the main character. Marionettes are freaky, dude.
Anyway, that’s another of Pinocchio’s strengths! He looks and sincerely is Adorable! I’m gonna paste in a quote by Milt Kahl about this:
I was quite critical of ... I have a knack for alienating people by being a little bit outspoken, and they were rather obsessed with the idea of this boy being a wooden puppet. My God, they even had this midget who did the voice for "call for Phillip Morris" as the voice for a while, and it was terrible. I was rather outspoken about it. Why didn't they forget that he was a puppet and get a cute little boy, you can always draw the wooden joints and make him a wooden puppet afterwards. And Ham Luske said, "Well, why don't you do something about it, do a scene," and I did one. What I don't remember is whether they had a new voice by then or not. Probably they did have; I don't know. I did a scene of Pinocchio underwater with the jackass ears, knocking on a shell of an oyster, saying, "Pardon me, can you tell me where I can find Monstro the whale?" The shell closed up and caused a swell in the current, which affected Pinocchio. I made kind of a cute little boy out of him, and Walt loved it; this was actually my big chance. It was my move into being one of the top animators.
Pretty cool, huh? Before this, Walt has stopped production as he didn’t like what was being made. They were putting an awful lot into making the lead so loveable! I’m paraphrasing better accounts of this, but if you’re interested I do suggest looking into such!
But maybe I oughta get back on track, lord knows this rambling mess is long enough already ;v;;; I just get interested by some of the behind the scenes workings, y’know~
-
Like I touched on earlier, I think a problem is that people forget there’s more to Pinoke than his extendo nose and urge to Become Real. He’s very sweet and well meaning, but with the snag of being too trusting and gullible. He’s easy to misread as being Too Dumb To Live, but he’s very curious and does visibly learn and develop as the story goes on.
The other lead, Jiminy Cricket, is really great! He adds charm in the darkest moments and helps prevent the sweet scenes from being too sugary. He’s a great mediator and pretty good Conscience, too, he just happens to be in the wrong place a couple of times, which is the nature of the story’s structure lol
The supporting characters are really good, too! You really feel for Gepetto and damn that dude puts a lotta work into his wares! Figaro and Cleo are really cute and play off each other well.
Special shout out to Figaro for managing to get into shorts as Minnie Mouse’s pet lmao. I’m pretty sure that kitten has influenced the way I draw cats too, pff
And the villains? Holy shit, this film is teeming with bad guys, and the cut we see has none of them getting punishment onscreen.... yikes
Ok, so not to sound like Youtube Clickbait vids made by a talentless hack, but BOY! This film is dark! hahahaa
So like, my favourite Bad Guys from here, Honest John and Gideon are the tamest and most funny, but they sell Pinocchio into slavery twice. Hhhaaaaa...
The way Stromboli alternates from humorous and jovial to screaming and stomping about abruptly is frightening. Dude slams Pinoccino in a bird cage and says how he’s gonna work our boy Pinoke pretty much until our puppet pal perishes
The Coachman....... there’s a theory going around that he’s like an evil counterpart of The Blue Fairy, how he punishes bad boys by having them turn into Donkies he can then sell to mines and circuses. They never come back... AS BOYS!! [shuddering]
And Monstro is the most force-of-nature-y type of Bad Dude in the assortment but still lives up to his name! Sure, I’d be mad if someone lit a fire inside me, but are whales really known for being vengeful to the point of body slamming a cliff? Even before that, do they try to eat literally anything they see?
But yeah, it’s not just how many bad guys there are, nor how karma doesn’t strike them in a satisfying way. The stuff they’re doing and the atmosphere, it’s all legit scary
But wait! You cry!
Jeeze CutCat, why are you talking about how scary Pinocchio is when you docked points off Aladdin for frightening you?
Because, Devil’s Advocate question, the latter film is an abrupt mood whiplash moment that took me by surprise as a young, impressionable thing. I dunno how young I was when watching either film, but not only is Pinocchio consistent with plunging into the depths, but the real horror is easy enough to miss if you’re a young child. It didn’t occur to me that the boys turned into Donkies were gonna be worked to death in back breaking labour!
Anyway, Pinocchio earns the right to be spooky and has enough charm and humour in the right moments.
But ok, yeah, the Donkies. The scene where Lampwick slowly, agonisingly transforms is a damn work of creepy art. We already know the terrible secret of Pleasure Island before it starts, but actually seeing the gradual build up, the way Pinocchio can only watch in horror and then sprout ears himself and Lampwick’s screams turning into braying... it’s sure something.
The Monstro chase scene at the end is also so damn intense I subconsciously hold my breath while watching it. It’s relentless, our heroes are up against a furious gigantic whale and the merciless sea and the fucking end of that always feels like a kick in the guts. The lingering shot and musical sting hits hard.
-
But still! The movie ain’t all Nightmare Inducing!
I’ve already said I love the characters, and helping that is the impeccable voice work for everyone. The voices and little character tics make them feel so real for such a fantastical setting. I dig how the Blue Fairy is rotoscoped and realistic, which sticks her out from the rest of the cast and enhances the Other Worldliness that fairies deserve.
The animation.... boy, the animation really is something else! It was the late 30′s but they were already creating new and highly expensive techniques to make this beautiful and not only does it work, but I struggle to think of anything that can top it. Multi-plane camera establishing shots than barely last for seconds, the underwater effects with the sways and distortion, each splash and movement done by hand. Honestly this may be the most perfectly drawn movie, I’m not exaggerating. They already came so far since Snow White, it’s almost unbelievable!
Lastly, I’ll mention the music. Fucking Fantastic, is what it is! Is it any surprise that they used the tune for the Disney Vanity Plates, to this day? There’s a few songs with different memorability levels, I know Ultron is fond of the ironic I’ve Got No Strings number. I, for one, love the atmospheric use of Little Wooden Head as a recurring motif.
I really didn’t plan on my Pinocchio talk on being this long, so if you read through it all you have my gratitude. Are you surprised that it’s my favourite? I’m enchanted by it, I certainly have a weakness for sweet hearted protagonists but the film has so many good angles!
I still think it’s dang unfair that the film seems to get overlooked so much, but hopefully my daft musing might remind a couple of people that it’s certainly worth a rewatch!

YOUR FAVOURITE...? 1. Favourite Ace Attorney game? apollo justice 2. Favourite case? answered this one already 3. Favourite defendant? wocky lol uh... I dunno, none of the defendants were all that memorable. the killers or other witnesses tend to stand out more. but I guess it’s kinda a toss-up between wocky and ron 4. Favourite prosecutor? klavier 5evr 5. Favourite ship? KLAVPOLLO ♥ 6. Favourite victim? eh, uh... well aside from like maybe 3 people, the only time we got to see any of the victims was when they were already dead. so I can’t really say... I guess misty fey? 7. Favourite murderer? why would I like a killer omg. uhhhhhh.... idk luke atmey cause he cracks me up and he doesn’t seem like a murderer to me. also I wanna know how he got that mask over his big schnozz 8. Favourite assistant? SHAWTY oops I mean trucy. and I already explained it in the one post 9. Favourite witness? do the detectives count lol. if so, then gummy all the way. if not, then hugh o’conner 10. Favourite quote? the miracle never happen idk probably some smartass thing apollo said/thought YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE...? 11. Least favourite Ace Attorney game? ace attorney investigations 12. Least favourite case? the last one in aai ugh 13. Least favourite defendant? hmm... larry I’M KIDDING although I love aj I might have to go with machi cause his whole story n such was pretty fucked up and made little sense. close second would be juniper because of all her forced feelings for apollo man that disgusted me 14. Least favourite prosecutor? the paynes? well no I’d have to go with manfred von karma 15. Least favourite ship? all of em that aren’t klavpollo, but I hate narumitsu and narumayo the absolute most. also really really don’t like claypollo and cykesquill 16. Least favourite victim? deid mann /shot 17. Least favourite murderer? I got like 4 lol: manfred von karma, quercus alba, lance amano and yeah I gotta add kristoph gavin to the list. kristoph had no motive to kill zak and he was 100% forgotten in dd so we never found out why he committed the deeds he did in aj. which really angers me because klavier’s basically been forced into the same fate 18. Least favourite assistant? maya, then athena 19. Least favourite witness? I’m sure I got one but my brain’s fried atm OTL 20. Least favourite memory of Ace Attorney? just about all of dual destinies. I like hugh and pre-phantom fulbright, but that’s basically it DO YOU PREFER...? 21. Phoenix Wright or Apollo Justice? POLLY ♥ 22. Maya Fey or Trucy Wright? SHAWTY I mean trucy 23. Investigations or trials? investigations cause I can’t figure out what the hell to present on which statements, then they start throwing in all kinds of crazy shit on top of it, with the magatama, apollo’s perceive, athena’s widget thingy and now the seance thing. investigating is much easier because you walk around, check out stuff and talk to people. I don’t feel quite as dumb that way lol 24. College Phoenix or Hobo Phoenix? hobo 25. Klavier Gavin or Kristoph Gavin? klavier 26. Ace Attorney or Ace Attorney Investigations? ace attorney 27. Apollo's perceive, Phoenix's magatama or Athena's Mood Matrix? polly’s perceive 28. Ace Attorney trilogy or Apollo Justice and Dual Destinies? apollo justice only pls 29. 3D models or sprites? sprites 30. Ema Skye as she is in Rise from the Ashes or Ema Skye as she is in Apollo Justice? aj ema MISCELLANEOUS 31. Did you like what they did to Phoenix in Apollo Justice? yes 32. Your opinion on Dai Gyakuten Saiban? LOCALISE THE GAME GODDAMMIT 33. Do you think Dai Gyakuten Saiban and/or Miles Edgeworth Investigations 2 will get localised to the West? no 34. Do you think Miles Edgeworth should get another Investigation-game or do you think another character deserves a spin-off? I think apollo deserves his own proper game because although he was the titular character in one of em, it wasn’t even his game. that aside, there should be a game with the detectives, like with gummy and ema and the real fulbright 35. Opinion on the soundtrack of the Ace Attorney-franchise? it’s good but they mostly just remix all the music for each new game. we hardly get actual new music anymore so it just gets kinda dull. though apollo’s theme is really friggin awesome 36. Do you like where the franchise is heading or did you prefer the atmosphere in the original trilogy? I preferred things to be as takumi had left them in apollo justice. I really hate how the team basically retconned the entire game and made things all ~bright and happy~ again and brought back almost all the characters from the trilogy. it really irritates me and makes me want to write a true sequel to aj where things are left the way they should be 37. Capcom suddenly announces that Phoenix will no longer appear in the Ace Attorney franchise! Your reaction? yeah right, they can’t keep him out of ANY of the games; he even got cameos in both aai games and has appeared as the only (or main) character in non-aa games like marvel vs capcom 3 and project x zone 2. so I don’t believe it for a second 38. Capcom suddenly announces that the Ace Attorney franchise has ended for good! Your reaction? not surprised. not at all happy, but not surprised 39. Would you like there to be another Ace Attorney/Professor Layton crossover game? no 40. Would you like an Ace Attorney anime? there already is one lol 41. Opinion on anime cutscenes in Ace Attorney? I don’t care, but I wish we had a language option because I want to hear it in japanese. the english voices suck so bad and we lose a really important aspect of apollo’s voice: it’s naturally louder than the others, and when he was all bandaged in dd, his voice was really quiet, which was unsettling to hear. but he wasn’t like that at all in the english version, which I hated 42. Would you want to play an Ace Attorney game where you take on the prosecutors role? answered this one before 43. Do you like having DLC in Ace Attorney-games? no 44. Opinion on Lamiroir’s storyline? they should’ve continued with it after aj. apollo and trucy have a right to know they’re related, and it’s extremely frustrating how they’re never told about it. thalassa needed to make more appearances in the games after aj as well, but do we get it? nooooo of course not 45. One thing you think the Ace Attorney games can improve on? far too many things to even begin to list 46. Capcom suddenly announces an Ace Attorney movie! Would you like it to be based on an already existing case or would you like an all new storyline? there already is a movie lol, based on the first game 47. Capcom suddenly announces an Ace Attorney movie! Would you prefer it being live-action, 3D animated or 2D animated? the movie’s live action so that answers that 48. If there could be an Ace Attorney crossover with whatever franchise you'd like, which one would you choose? (Does not need to be a video-game franchise) can I say pokemon lol. if not, I just wanna see em playing ice hockey cause I’m a big hockey fan (GO BLUES) 49. Opinion on recurring witnesses? (Wendy Oldbag, Lotta Hart, Larry Butz, etc.) dunno, my brain’s still pretty fried so I’ll just say it depends 50. Do you think Dual Destinies deserved its M-rating? psh absolutely not

Mother Nature saved her August rain for Tuesday and spared a massive crowd at Ottawa’s TD Place stadium on Monday night from her wrath. Massive crowds arrived early and showed a lot of Patience and didn’t cry over long merch and beer lineups because it was all better by 7:30 when Axl Rose, Slash, Duff and the rest of Guns N’ Roses exploded onto the stage.

Popular Canadian rockers Our Lady Peace kicked things off shortly after 6pm by the time they reached their fourth song, “Is Anybody Home?”, the clear answer was yes. Although many seats remained empty throughout their set the stadium floor, which is where I was located, was teaming with fans of all ages jockeying for position in merch or beverage lines many of whom were singing along with Raine Maida.

Admittedly I’ve never been much of an OLP fan, mostly preferring Maida’s solo work and songwriting, but when they launched into their new track “Drop Me in the Water” my ears perked up. This was a sound I was not used to from OLP. It’s an edgier, harder rock sound than much of their earlier music and I could get used to hearing more of that sound from them. OLP wrapped up their set (9 songs total) with “4am” and “Starseed”.

Moments before Guns N’ Roses took to the stage a souped-up muscle car animation took over the three large screens that took over the TD Place end zone. The car squealed its tires and revved its engines occasionally spinning around to fire off the two guns that make up the Guns and Roses logo. This led into the “Looney Tunes Theme”, almost fitting given the bands history, and then the first notes from the band itself as they launched into “It’s So Easy” to kick off the night. What followed was 3 solid hours of uninhibited rock and roll.

Appetite for Destruction turned 30 about a week after my 43rd Birthday which means that Guns N’ Roses have been a part of my musical diet pretty much my entire life but until last night I had never seen Guns N’ Roses live. But there was something even more special about last nights show for me, it’s been six years since I founded Sound Check Entertainment and my team and I have worked hard for those last six years to prove that we deserve a place in the media circles at the big shows. Well it doesn’t get much bigger than Guns N’ Roses “Not in this Lifetime” and we did it and last night I did what I do best, at a show, tweeted the hell out of it.

By the fourth song of the night Axl Welcomed us to the jungle and the crowd went wild. At most concerts by the time you’re four songs in you’re almost a quarter of the way through the show, not last night. Turns out they were just warming up. Four songs later when they launched into their version of Wings’ “Live and Let Die”, which I must add is my preferred version of the song, the stadium exploded and the show was running with the tachometer pushing into the red. At this rate most normal engines can’t take much more before they blowup, one thing was clear Guns N’ Roses weren’t holding anything back and we were definitely headed for an explosion before the night was through.
It wasn’t all head banging, fist pumping, throat hurting rock n’ roll, Axl let his softer side shine through with ballads like “This I Love”, “Yesterday’s” and, of course two mega highlights “November Rain” (which also showcased Axl’s piano playing skills and, of course, Slash’s awe inspiring guitar) and “Don’t Cry”.

There were also no shortage of guitar solos, first with Slash going for about 10 minutes from guitar solo into Nino Rota’s “Speak Softly Love” (Love Theme from the Godfather) into “Sweet Child of Mine”. A few songs later Slash joined Richard Fortus for a powerful duet of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” which lead into “November Rain”.
There were a few covers mixed in throughout the night none more poignant than Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun”, no doubt a tribute to the late Chris Cornell who’s music has played such a big role in keeping the GNR “Night Train” relevant over the years. It was especially powerful for me as GNR, Metallica and Soundgarden were my top three rock bands growing up through my teenage years.

The band finished their regular set with a high octane trip on a “Nightrain” before returning to stage with “Don’t Cry” and AC/DC cover “Whole Lotta Rosie”, before which Axl told the crowd he’d been to the Young Bootcamp, rock n’ roll bootcamp and he’s on time now (referring to his rebel phase where he was notorious for showing up late and starting his show, sometimes, hours after it was due to end). Things mellowed out a bit for “Patience”, probably one of my favourite GNR ballads, before finishing off the night with a cover of The Who’s “The Seeker” and an explosive high octane ride to “Paradise City” which took the needle deep into the red before the stage exploded with fireworks and ticker tape much to the delight of the massive crowd.
So that was it, Not in this Lifetime? No I’m thinking more like once in a lifetime. Over the last six years I’ve seen hundreds, if not thousands of shows, but this one…Guns N’ Roses…trumps them all. For 3 incredible hours on Monday night a section of Ottawa magically transformed into Paradise City.
For those of you in western Canada Axl and the gang are headed your way next with stops in Winnipeg (August 24), Regina (August 27), Edmonton (August 30) and Vancouver (September 1). The band then returns to the US for numerous dates before return to Ontario for 2 shows in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre (October 29 & 30). All shows are presented by Live Nation, for tickets visit www.livenation.ca or www.gunsnroses.com

I guess in closing the big question remains…will this be the last we see of Guns N’ Roses, or will we hear new material before the decade is out? I guess time will tell but I, for one, am happy that I got at least one chance to witness the spectacle that is Guns N’ Roses.
