Hey so I ended up making a good amount of Headcanons for the Rito in Wind Waker, and I wanted to share them with y'all.
This came about while writing for my Wind fic focusing on the obscene amount of father figures he has (check it out here). This chapter was focused on Quill, and while I was developing their relationship, I ended up developing a decent amount of internal lore for the Rito, and I couldn't fit them all in the fic
So, I'm putting them so people can see it, and if people like em, they can hopefully use it for themselves, or expand on them, or just tell me what their own HCs are, or what they would change. I love the Rito, especially Wind Waker's, and I had so much fun doing this.
Just a quick disclaimer, I am not any sort of anthropologist, or linguist, or anything, so if I disrespect any real-world race or culture with this, I am really sorry. Please let me know if I misrepresent something so I can learn from it and change whatever is wrong.
HCs under the cut:
Tribe
It's all but confirmed that the Rito were evolved from the Zora, who were forced to evolve due to the unlivable water of the Great Flood. This colours a lot my headcanons about the Rio's values, traditions, and relations.
It is hard for the Rito to call any one place their home, since they lost theirs in the flood.
Their flight is important to them threefold: It's the gift theyr were given by Valoo in order to survive the flood, it gives them the freedom to explore around when they feel the loss of their home, and it's the closest thing they have to the freedom of swimming.
It's why the sky, their flight, and Valoo is all so important ot them.
Their connection to Valoo is why they call Dragon Roost home, although to them, it's more like a common hub, or home base. Most Rito don't actually have a set home, instead they travel around between place to place. It's why the Rito as delivery workers works so well for them.
Along with losing their home, the Rito also lost a lot of their culture. This causes them to be very protective of what they have now, rarely letting others take part in their actual traditions.
It's why Link (Wind) being a part of their family is such a big deal; hes one of the only Hylians to actually be accepted as a Rito¹ (the idea of Link being a Rito will come up later)
As a part of their culture and their worship of the sky as their new freedom, they revere Zephos and Cyclos, even more than sailor of the Great Sea do. A lot of their rituals focus on the Wind Gods.
They have always worshiped Zephos, but Cyclos was lost to time. When they were reminded of his existence, they were horrified that they might have lost more of their culture, but were quick to reinstate Cyclos as a deity, and they do celebrate him now.
Relations
To the Rito as a Tribe, relations to each other are everything. Everyone who is a Rito is connected on some way to the other Rito.
You are defined by your connections to the other Rito. Unless you're the ruler of the Rito, then you are your connections.
You are your mother's daughter - you are the fathger of your son - you are best friend, the partner, the beloved, and they are yours.
As relationships are the biggest way to define who you are as a Rito, it is possible for people who were not born as Rito to be a part of the tribe. There are very few non-species Rito, as they are protective of their identity, but it is possible.
¹This is why Link (Wind) is a Rito. He is defined by his relationships to the Rito: specifically Quill, Medli, and Komali. He is Quill's beloved, and Quill is Link's guardian. He is Medli's mentor, and she is his sage. He is Komali's chosen, and Komali is his partner (komalink truthers rise up).
Feathers are important in defining those relationships. If you are close enough to be defined by a relationship, then you given a feather from the other to keep those relationships.
Most Rito would weave those feathers into their wings, although they would be placed in a way that they could get removed easily. Most Rito only wear their feathers during formal events or festivals, although some wear them at all times.
In Link's case, he has 3 feathers, one from Quill, Medli, and Komali. Link has two feather sets - one which is a loose set of feathers he can braid into his hair, and one in a solid set of 3 which he can place behind his ear.
Language
I did not come up with a full language for the Rito. What I did develop was a base which to base the Rito language off of , and a way to buid off of it in the future as necessary.
One major thing is that the language isn't a full language, for every single word. Another thing they lost in the flood was their language, only bits and pieces of it remaining as they evolved.
What was left was a descriptive language; where words are used to describe larger concepts.
Speaking and Writing in Rito involves using Rito Language and Common/Hylian simultaneously, using words from both to describe full sentences.
The Rito Language itself is a Agglutinative Language. What that means, is that words are formed by merging syllaybles, where every syllable has a unique meaning, and the combinations of syllables make words which are defined by the syllables meanings.
Words tend not to have direct Common/Hylian translations; instead syllables have meanings, and their relationships to each other define concepts.
Concepts and words tend not to exist until invented; they are all based on the same syllables which all share meanings, or different combinations arte invented when needed, and understood when told.
As an example, I'll share the two invented words in my fic - Towaki and Towaveh - divided in syllables as: To, Wa, Ki, and Veh.
To: shortening of Rito
Wa: Love (non-superficial)
Ki: Mine (ownership)
Veh: Theirs (ownership)
Towaki: They are my beloved.
Towaveh: I am their beloved.
Festivals
The two biggest celebrations in Rito Culture are Ballad's Day and Requiems's Day, named after the Wind's Requiem and the Ballad of Gales. The two celebrations are six months apart, and each happen once a year.
Ballad's Day celebrates Cyclos, and Requiem's Day celebrates Zephos. Both festivals consist of three phases.
The first phase is meant for Valoo's attendant and the current Rito ruler. The two ascend Dragon Roost Island and request a scale from Valoo, to give to the Wind Gods in offering.
The second phase has Valoo's attendant, and the upcoming ruler (if one is not born, the current ruler) partaking in a ritual involving a performance of either the Wind's Requiem or the Ballad of Gales to offer the scale to the celebrated deity to ask for favourable winds n front of all of the gathered Rito² (There is nuance as to who is currently involved during Wind Waker's time, which I will explain later)
The third phase is a celebration: Every Rito who can make it for the festivals gather for a large feast. More than the second phase, this is Zephos and Cyclos' favourite part, as it makes them happy to see their worshippers happy.
These two days are some of the only days where almost every Rito comes back to Dragon Roost. These days are the best times to catch up with the various other Rito, as it's the only times all of the Rito see each other.
This aspect of the festival is just as important as the offering to the deities, since their relations to each other are so important, and their need to travel makes it so they can;t see each other often.
²In the Wind Waker's time, the people who participate in the ritual are Komali, Medli, and Link. Komali and Medli are a given, as they're the upcoming ruler and current attendant, but Medli is also the Wind Sage. Her music is powerful magically, and even more so when conducted by Link.
Link's inclusion on the ritual is threefold. He is partially a mentor for Medli, and will help her with her part in the ritual. He is Komali's chosen (komalink truthers rise up), so he is also connected to the upcoming ruler. He is the Hero of Winds, and they are the Wind Gods. Although he wasn't destined to be one from Hylia, he was chosen by Zephos and accepted by Cyclos.
His relations to the Rito involved and the gods make him an important part of the ritual. For Cyclos, he also just wants Link specifically to be there, as he is the one who brought the deity back into the Rito's ritual. Zephos is okay if Link misses the ritual, Cyclos basically requires it.
That's all I have for now! Lemme know what y'all think, if it's good, if this makes sense, or what other HCs y'all have! I love the Rito and would just love to talk more about them!
<3

Did some Zelda drawings, and this time DIDN’T sneak in a Deku Link! Impressive I know, instead I drew a very silly interpretation of the Tears’ mural character. The devs are really good at making everything look connected yet unique.

Following The Tides - ,, aged up ↑ yandere Wind
cw(s): yandere themes, descriptive gore, noncon kissing, suggestive themes, (Wind) light self harm & abusive masochism
Tumblr media
ꨄ︎ You were once a great ally to the Hero of Time. You died in his arms, and your soul left the mortal plane. The goddesses gifted you with a rebirth after hundreds of years. You grew into adulthood, not remembering an ounce of your reincarnation. You only knew that you had an affinity for the one called Wind. The both of you grew from toddlers to teens to adults together. It was a bond neither of you could break. Something in the back of your mind nags at you whenever you hear the whispers of the Hero of Time and the great battles that were fought. It was even more than that. Any whisper of a hero seemed familiar.
ꨄ︎ It was only when Wind had to set out on his journey did you realize how closely your fates were intertwined. Wherever he went on his journey, you followed him, and vice versa. Small bits of helpful information tumbled from your lips about how to gather the three goddess pearls and defeat the formidable Ganondorf. You were questioned by many about how you knew these things and if your loyalty truly lay with the hero. The wind defended you with his heart and soul and clung to your presence. You were the only factor that stayed steady—like the winds he is able to control with his Wind Waker.
ꨄ︎ When he came to confront Ganondorf, it proved that the Master Sword was ineffective. You had warned Wind of this, and yet he ignored you. He promised to protect you against all. Yet, Tetra (Princess Zelda) was overpowered as well. You sprung into action with that memory at the very core of your being. It was then that you remembered a sharp weapon piercing your gut, your own life force covering you in a hellish red, and dying in the arms of a man who swore to protect you. A man who uttered the same words on his lips as Wind did. Ganondorf confirmed it when he chuckled and stated that it was 'good to see the Links' little darling' once again. He also stated that 'It will be a pleasure to kill you' once again. In those moments, Wind had an epiphany—he could not ever let you go. You are much too precious of a person to slip from his grasp. This time, Wind's barely managed to protect you from Ganondorf's deadly blow. Quill and Prince Komali swooped in and saved you three before Ganondorf's tower was engulfed in flames.
ꨄ︎ The rest of the journey was swift, as you had passed out. You were stuck within your own mind, connected to Ganon's evil. Every god, goddess, and deity seemed to abandon you but Fierce. You vaguely remembered the brief interaction you had with him when Time donned his mask. During those months, you were inside a temple that belonged to the deity. Step outside, and you will be swarmed by Ganon's darkness and tortured. Inside, you were within Fierces domain and protected. Not once did you actually see the deity, but you knew it was Fierce—you could feel his presence all around you, almost suffocating. His temple was carved with depictions of his visage. You bolted awake, and it was like not a day had passed. You were on a boat with Wind, and he cuddled in while rambling off about the rest of his adventures. Not once did his grip let up, nor did his eyes train from your face.
ꨄ︎ He is severely clingy, to the point where he can't even allow you to shower on your own. He always either joins you or sits where you are just in his line of sight. He may almost be nineteen, but your unclothed body makes him feel like he's that same easily embarrassed teenager once again. He can't help but take a few peeks, and he feels like a pervert even if he is allowed to look at you. The clinginess only gets worse after he disappears for ten minutes, which is probably the most time you have gotten away from him since Ganondorf was defeated.
He came back with an empty hourglass and told you the entire story. You could see a crazed desperation in his irises. He wrapped his arms around you and forced you into a suffocating kiss that you were unable to break away from, no matter how much you wished to. That's what any amount of time away from you does to him. It doesn't matter if you have a breakdown or are drained. He will simply scoop you up and continue chatting with you. You are like his captive audience. If you are extremely upset, he won't leave you alone, but he'll do everything in his power to make you feel better—no matter what.
ꨄ︎ If you get too bratty with him, then he doesn't mind putting you in line. Only his version of getting you to stop acting bratty is for him to act like a brat himself. Oh, you want to eat? It seems like Wind is in control of the rations. He just wants all of the food. You aren't allowed to have it.
It becomes a mix of him acting childish and masochistic. He hangs off of you and begs to know why you tried to escape. He holds onto the edge of your tunic and questions you all day, from things mundane to intimate. He'll ask you anything to snap you out of your little tantrum. He'll also resort to being more wild if he must. He'll hit himself and sob into you. He'll beg you to tell him why you are acting so cruelly toward him.
He'll relish in the fact that it hurts so much. It hurts so good because he's doing it in front of you. You are witnessing him becoming a sniveling mess. It makes him whimper louder and plant himself right beneath you. You can do anything to him if you just stop resisting his love. He'll let you use him like he's no better than the sand you walk on.
ꨄ︎ No matter how badly you wish to escape him, never try to touch the Wind Waker without his permission. It's one of the very few times you will see Wind get serious. It can change the direction of the wind, call upon and borrow the power of the goddesses, open doors to ancient temples, awaken the sage within someone, allow someone to travel in cyclones, take control of others, and more. That is something Wind never wants anyone to ever touch, especially you.
If you ever take it and try to use it against him, you'll see a side of Wind that would make the goddesses fear him. No longer is he begging for your love or allowing you to use him to make yourself compliant with him. He is demanding and furious and will harm you. He'll chain your arms together and smack you. He'll interrogate you and scream at you from the top of his lungs.
He can't believe you would do something like that! The Wind Waker is one of the most valuable things in his possession, second only to you. He gave you everything, and now you betray him like his. He won't ever apologize for how he acted when you touched it. He believes himself to be completely justified. If you are scared of him, he huffs and refuses to give in to your fear. You can abuse him all you'd like, but don't ever try to use the Wind Waker against him. It's best that you don't even think it. He might be so blinded by this betrayal that he uses it against you. It's best to tread lightly in those waters. If you are going to escape using that weapon, then there is no room for a margin of error.
ꨄ︎ Right before the events of Spirit Tracks, you end up getting split from Wind due to circumstances unexplainable to most. It just seems that the goddesses either really love you or hate you, depending on how you see the situation. You ended up right in front of Time. He was all different now. Your memories, other than your death, were hazy. Still, your soul seemed at peace seeing him. For a moment, there was a flash of recognition in his eye. It was replaced by confusion, and he acted as if he had never known you. Your heart broke. He really doesn't remember you? Is he just pretending? You still aren't sure.
ꨄ︎ That's how you reunited with Time, and soon enough, the other Links joined, and it became The Chain. Wind saw you first, as you stood out compared to the other Links. He tackled you and peppered kisses all over your body. Time was naturally protective over you, even if you had only been together for a few days. You tried to explain the situation while a thick blush was creeping up your neck. All these different versions of him staring at the both of you. Wind just wouldn't stop pressing himself upon you and making himself familiar with your skin once again. Twilight ends up getting him off of you, and he tries to brush it off as nothing. You couldn't look at any of the other Links for days. You were just so flustered after having so many people witness Wind love on you.
ꨄ︎ His yandere tendencies are obvious to the other Links early on. He's always stuck to you and refuses to let anyone else too close to you. He is always fawning over you. He begs for your attention incessantly and will even ignore his basic needs if you ignore him. All of these things put the others on edge, but not as much as him offering himself up to you. He offers to let you harm him if it means you'll just give him an ounce of the affection he craves.
ꨄ︎ Wind demands you call him Link at all times. The others thought that was strange. It would be one thing if you preferred to call him Link over the others, but he made you call him by his name. If you ever call him Wind around the others, then he gets huffy and upset. He'll pout until you either apologize or make some sort of amends for this grave grievance. He's just that possessive. You may call the others by their titles because you aren't close to them. However, you are his, so you must call him Link.
It seemed even odder to you because you usually called him Wind. It was a nickname that he got from you because of his adventures during the time of Wind Waker. He still got to call you by your nickname, which was Storm. One you acquired because you were always so willing to put yourself in harm's way to help him. When you are motivated, you are a force of nature—like a storm. At least, that's how Wind sees you, even if you don't see yourself that way. None of the others were allowed to even utter that nickname from their lips, lest Wind be ready to injure them.
ꨄ︎ The other Links try to coax Wind out of his yandere tendencies and help you. Even though he is almost nineteen, he is still the youngest out of them all. They still see him as almost a lost young man who has confused love for lust. Instead of calming his anger, it causes him to erupt in a violent tantrum. He sobs and demands to know what he has done to you to make them treat him this way. He blames everyone, but himself, for how twisted he is. He gets so furious because he's insecure about it. He isn't fully convinced that it is as bad as it is, but the others sure are. He just wants to be seen as the mature grown up he is! He has completed three adventures, defeated great evils, and gone through so many unspeakable horrors, and they still treat him like a kid. They still treat you like a victim. You aren't a victim, right? You'd stay with him willingly. You love him. You love him? You love him!
ꨄ︎ He hates it when you pay attention to others. This hatred multiplies when he sees the other Links trying to help you. It makes him sulk. He begins to pout and almost begins to beg for your attention again. He irks one of the other Chain members, so they go off on him, and he can make himself look like the poor, innocent victim. He does it so much to the point that you are able to tell when he's doing it. You don't trust him much anymore because of that. You just asked Link if that actually happened, like Wind said it did. Ten times out of ten, he is just exaggerating to gain sympathy and soothing touches from you.
ꨄ︎ Wind realizes he's losing you to them. He's desperate to get you back to only being around him so he can properly love you. He thinks about kidnapping you but decides he cannot do that yet. It'd be too risky. You've lost so much faith in him already. He has to regain it first. He's just so incredibly frustrated. Why do the other Links have to care about you so much? You are his Storm—his, his, his, his, his, his, his.
ꨄ︎ Another thought of his is to get you pregnant. It's the ultimate way to claim you. Unable to get pregnant? He'll still try to breed you. He always is thinking about your body and how it feels again his. Part of it is because he's young and so sexually repressed. He just yearns for you every waking moment. Even when his head hits the pillow, he is dreaming of being with you in such an intimate manner. He'll adopt an orphan if he has to. Will adopting get you out of him trying to get you pregnant? Absolutely not. He'll try twice as hard now. Your child has to have a sweet little baby sibling to keep them company, just like him and Aryll.
ꨄ︎ He doesn't understand the implications of having a family. That doesn't stop him from wanting it so badly. He doesn't care if what he is trying to do is considered 'baby trapping' or not. He doesn't care if he isn't fit to be a father. He needs you. He needs a family. He needs stability. He needs people to come home to after his adventures. He's so conflicted. He needs a home, but he also needs freedom. He cannot decide which one is more important—you or the Great Sea.
ꨄ︎ Time sees Winds obsession and slowly became more concerned. None of their efforts have been working. Wind is still infatuated with you, and his actions are growing more erratic as each day passes. Time sits you down to have a 'private' conversation. Wind was listening in, as he always is. Time was trying to convince you to leave him. Something within Time urged him to do so. He knew what in him wanted to protect you. He needed to at least try. That much he knew.
ꨄ︎ That familiar jealousy creeps into his heart, only this time accompanied by pain and sorrow. Tears fill his eyes, and he manages to escape from The Chains vigilante watch for a few hours. He breakdowns. He's like a small child once again. He remembers all that he has gone through. It hits him like a monstrous wave on the hull of the ship. He's there until the sun rises. He doesn't move until a plan forms in his head. He'll kidnap you. Sure, he thought of it before and pushed it away, but he has no choice.
He won't give up adventuring; he'll just keep you from doing it.
ꨄ︎ He comes back from the woods like a new person. He learns to suppress his desires and slowly manipulates those in The Chain to believe he is doing better. Many are skeptical, but he doesn't mind making a deal with some other Ganondorf to get them off his back. He is still a hero, yes, but he'll be a villain for you. He doesn't have the same spirit of the hero, anyway. He's just some kid the goddesses chose. He deserves this. He deserves to be happy with you.
ꨄ︎ While the others are busy fighting a new Ganondorf and his minions, he takes you away from them. Under the guise of freedom from danger, he truly promises captivity within his own arms. He locks you away in a room on his ship. He cuts off all contact with The Chain. He shushes you when you're worried and tells you to think of other things. He slowly entraps you in your new life. He hadn't planned on The Chain getting in the way of your love story. He's so upset that he had to do this all again. It's all worth it because it's for you.
ꨄ︎ He only has one last pair of loose ends to tie up. He makes sure this Ganondorf has the best chance at killing everyone in The Chain by divulging the secrets he has learned from his time as 'Hero of Winds'. He loses the last part of his courageous spirit for you. He is no longer connected to the goddesses, but his fate nearer to Demise. You're his lover, his Storm, for forevermore. You can't help but wonder: Was this truly what the goddesses intended for you?
Would this have happened with Time if you had survived the battle with Ganondorf?

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Quill, and Rito Allyship - the Power of Knowledge
I wanna talk about one of the best guys to come out of Wind Waker: Quill. More people need to give this man his respect so he's getting a long post nobody asked for but we're getting anyway.
Tumblr media
I appreciate how the game portrays his range of knowledge and his ability to keep a pulse on several different isolated communities as a powerful tool at his disposal. The Rito are some of your biggest allies.
This is a particularly useful skill when you consider the information gap that would cause word to travel slowly if not for the Rito's mail delivery and them directly hearing things themselves.
It's his persuasive skills and knowledge that keep your adventure from grinding to a halt several times throughout the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Rito aren't just out delivering letters, they're constantly keeping up with what's going on around the different islands, listening to people's issues and Quill's abilities are at the center of what makes not just Link but the Rito so successful in their goals.
From the start of the game, he's the one who clues you in that the kidnappings aren't isolated events and several other areas have been targeted as well. He also is the one to persuade the pirates into helping you out where otherwise your journey would have just ended. He's also the one to tell you that the girls are being taken to the Forsaken Fortress.
But the other thing is that throughout the game Quill doesn't just exist to help you. At this point, it's nothing particularly special and he's the kind of "guide" character who exists in video games to tell the player where to go and what to do.
But his portrayal takes an interesting direction the more you see him.
When you get to Dragon Roost, one of the first things he asks about is you and your sister, but he then introduces you to his Chieftain to see if they can help you out. However, he also recognizes the ways that you can help him and he branches out less as that video game guide and more showcasing one of his best skills.
Chieftain, what do you think of consulting Link with regards to your son, Prince Komali? As you can see, Link is a gallant young lad! I feel certain that Prince Komali would open his heart to him and speak freely of his fears and worries. - Quill
Tumblr media
Quill sees Link as someone who has a lot of common ground with Komali, who is currently mourning the death of his grandmother. I don't think it's a coincidence the game intentionally makes Komali even look like a Rito version of Link and draws the obvious comparison with their grandmothers, something Link can pretty strongly identify with in how he had to leave his own grandmother behind.
Tumblr media
Quill wasn't just there to push your journey along, he also saw a young boy with the right traits to potentially solve a problem in his own community.
He already saw Link and his family and noticed his relationship with his grandmother.
The other Rito haven't had success in reaching out to Komali, but he's found someone around his age with a similar relationship who Komali may be able to better identify with in his grief.
Tumblr media
But that's Quill's big strength--he's very knowledgeable, logical, persuasive and a negotiator, he has a pulse on everything going on in several communities, and has a very community oriented way of looking at things that gives him the ability to keep things in the back of his mind and identify people who may be a good match to solve other problems.
What say you? Will you share some of your courage with my son? Will you meet my son?
I thank you! We shall do our best to solve our problem as quickly as possible, so that we may better help you with yours. - Chieftain
He makes the connection that the Chieftain doesn't immediately think of because he has a prior encounter with Link and can apply that knowledge to give aid his Chieftain's son. He also sees a child in need and currently is out looking for his sister and happily shares information and resources with you.
Wind Waker really goes out of its way to showcase the strengths of connecting with others and keeping knowledge at the forefront, something that's especially relevant and easy to overlook in a world where everyone is separated with few means of communication in a vast ocean. The closest thing to phones or internet is the gossip stone, but this isn't available to everyone.
None of the Rito even expect you to deal with Valoo. Quill in particular tells you to leave that to them while you help Komali out. Medli even asks for your help but isn't counting on you to deal with Valoo, asking you to take care of Komali in her place if she doesn't survive.
When you complete the first temple, we see Medli speaking with the other Rito, likely informing them she's figured out what's going on with Valoo so they can devise a solution, but they weren't expecting Link to go deal with it.
Zelda games I think are capable of effective storytelling when it recognizes Link as...an actual person and in this case a child. Wind Waker and Majora's Mask were both excellent at using the child aspect.
A father and a lot of the older Rito and even Medli still have a bit of a relationship gap with Komali either due to age or the dynamic of their roles in their community, but Link has quite a few similarities to him, something Quill picks out.
Tumblr media
When you go to find Jabun, even the King of Red Lions has no leads on what to do. It's Quill who gives you more guidance per Valoo's instruction.
Obviously this is the game's way of guiding the player but I think something that's interesting is how the game portrays knowledge and community as an extremely powerful tool Quill wields not just to help you, but those of his community.
Tumblr media
There's a surprising amount of thought not just into him as a character but how the story recognizes the way that gathering information and keeping a pulse on communities would be so valuable with the inherent separation the game also includes.
He and Komali also then rescue you when you're in over your heads trying to fight Ganon and failing. They also took the time to confirm that Link's sister escaped safely and can focus on the task at hand.
Considering that Quill is the one who knew what you were planning, he likely thought to consult Valoo for help knowing you were close to confronting Ganon and has been keeping track of what you've been doing. He enlisted Valoo's help by using his biggest strenght--using knowledge and resources to identify the right people to bring in to solve the many problems he hears in passing.
It's not lost on me that the Rito are Native coded, which I feel also is a strong factor in how it factors how the game portrays them as a community, but I'll leave that discussion to Native folks.
The game still is at the end of the day a power fantasy and the series as a whole is built on white saviorism. I'd love to see some people with connection to that heritage give their thoughts on how the Rito are portrayed.
I wish Wind Waker had been given a proper development cycle because it clearly feels rushed in its second half with its first half going so strong!

A thing i think is itneresting about the Sages in Tears of the Kingdom is that they are so unlike the sages of previous generations. In Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker, when the chosen one becomes the Sage of their people, they're forced to leave. Mido and Link both mourn the loss of Saria because she can never return. Prince Komali's flower literally wilts because Medli never returns to get it from him. It's all very devastating and heartbreaking and wahhh I get upset just thinking about it
But that's not the case in BOTW or TOTK. In BOTW the Champions only really "leave" because they straight up die, and in Tears of the Kingdom we can actually go back to their respective realms and visit with them. They continue to be members of their community. I just wonder why Nintendo made that choice different from all the other times?
(granted I haven't beaten the game yet so let me live in denial if this isn't the case)

at least we got a cunty character (with unique design) and npcs with silly outfits again in totk but I miss my pipit my fledge my groose.. where are you goofy memorable characters 😢😭
(i assume ur talking about cece) oh i absolutely loved cece. finally some good food. i just wished they didnt have to save the character design energy for a few certain npcs and it was more common with everyone 😭 i just wonder where THESE GUYS WENT!!!

the weird and wacky general population!!! when id actually remember the npc that gave me some small unimportant side quest. it doesn't seem like a crucial thing but imo it's where a lot of the zelda charm comes from. prince komali is one of my favorite characters ever, and he has a pretty unimportant role in the grand scheme of things
anyway im just saying i got like 400+ hours in botw and i could not recall a single stable npc. Forgettable

I don't disagree with this post but a) I genuinely don't understand what this has to do with the og post lol but also b) they assert later in the replies that link is canonically straight and no he isn't?? I don't mind truly any headcanons ppl have of link bc its just really not that serious haha but if you're gonna climb a hill to die on, idk why it's this one and also asserting that link can't be gay/bi/etc bc its not explicitly stated is hypocritical bc he's also never been explicitly stated as straight. besides ss, when has he ever seemed romantically inclined to *anyone*? am I supposed to take his blank stares at zelda/malon/saria/hilda/ilia/midna/etc as romantic gazes as opposed to his blank stares at sidon/ravio/beedle/prince komali/etc? link has virtually no agency or voice anything can be Canon and it's actually Canon that he's androgynous so that more players can relate to him so idk why at the very least being bi would be so far fetched 🤷
