i'm getting towards the end of the skypeia arc, & i'd like to say just how much i adore the way the female strawhats have been treated.
just... every aspect of how the way their characters have been previously contextualized influences the story-line is treated with a masterful amount of consideration. we're given so many layers to both of them that enrich not only their characters specifically, but the arc, and the one piece world as a whole. without nami & robin having their specific skills, and their specific values, without those being built upon, the story would have come to a halt.
you could not have skypeia without nami & robin being who they are as individuals. not just because they never would've gotten there without nami, but also because the way these women think is itself foundational to the machinations of the arc as a whole.
to be totally upfront, if you think any other strawhats were more central to the skypeia arc than nami & robin were you are full-on fucking lying to yourself.

as much as I can't wait for the final release I will be a little sad when retribution comes out with proper pacing, bc the argent romance route is just so fucking funny in the test version. you come out to this woman as evil and she has absolutely no thoughts on that. she almost immediately invites u to her place for a cutsie movie night. things go from 100 to 0 in the matter of a few scenes. no one is doing it like her

ok well my days been shit and all but I will say seeing one of my old professors posting resources/guides for faculty supporting campus protests did give me a touch of pride for my college and major. Like being in Texas and working for a job that I can’t be too “political” I have to be careful about what I’m sharing right now but seeing her posts made me feel a lot more like I can also be vocal, if she’s willing to risk her career I think I can too.

i know we all already know that the ahsoka show is bad but it is so fucking bad. there is zero narrative reason for this show to exist, its plot requires random character assassination (why is hera so bad at her job? why is sabine suddenly terrible at fighting? why is ahsoka a grouchy block of wood?), and the production design is bizarrely horrible (the lekku & makeup still look awful, nothing looks lived-in, the lighting is flat as hell). i am still watching it so the joke is on me here but i hate that we arrived here, watching flat characters mouth dull jokes to move a senseless plot in a world which looks completely dead. it didn't have to be like this

Poppy got invited onto one of Maroon Cartoons sets- somehow... But unfortunately, it's the Roger Rabbit and Baby Herman cartoon set.
Herman: *waking up from a nap and sees Poppy. Immediately chooses violence* "Oh, sorry I'm late, doll, I was waiting for you to make me a sandwich."
Poppy: *glaring harder than she ever has before* "Go back to sleep, and starve."

whenever people asked me what I wanted to do post fmo, I always had this one idea that I never mentioned bc at the time the logistics seemed off
I was interested in doing a sort of fun play on the Princess and the Queen. But flipping it on its head and making it the Prince and the Queen. I’ve been in my ‘not explaining the dance fuck it Aegon is king’ bag. Essentially I would like taking elements from the novela and the show (specifically ep 6 of course) to sort emulate that tense dynamic between Alicent and Rhaenyra that I found interesting.
Idk something about Aegon marrying Aemond’s only friend and love growing up, leading to Aemond and oc essentially divorcing and making it everyone’s problem (ala rhaenicent) scratches an itch. I was watching an after the episode thing hbo does after every episode. I want to say it was Miguel who said it, or it could’ve been Ryan, but Rhaenyra and Alicent are basically having a terf war over viserys (on top of the other problems obvi). I could see that happening over Aegon
Aemond thinks oc is a scheming bitch (by account of thinking she left him in the dust to be queen), oc thinks Aemond would do anything to undermine his brother’s claim (bc she literally heard him complain about it growing up 💀). It’s pure paranoia and angst and sexual tension.
This would probably fall more into the book Aemond verse simply bc imo his support for Aegon is way more ambiguous than in the show. Yeah we get the kind of laughable ‘tis I who trains with the sword and reads so clearly I’d rock as king’ speech but effectively he falls in line after.
ALSO the idea of an idealistic girl becoming jaded, and calculated as a means of survival and out of pain oouuu you guys know I love that. Sansa and Alicent are my girls for a reason. Oc having to put on a brave face and pretend this is what she wanted now that she has it, bc if she doesn’t… what was it all for? The enduring, the suffering, not having her best friend. She has to win the metaphorical staring contest bc if she flinched.. then what. What does she have outside of this now
Anyway… this was random. Just wanted to throw this out lol

"margaery cares about the smallfolk" and "margaery interacts with them because it benefits her socially" are things that can both be true at the same time. her being aware of the social impact and desiring that doesn't negate the fact that she also does care. to her, what is the point of becoming queen if you're hated? she wants the people to adore her, but she also sees it as her duty to be this figure for them. if she truly hated them like she told the high sparrow (which was her telling him what she knew he *wanted* to hear from her) then she had plenty of ways to endear the smallfolk to her without physically putting herself in danger just to interact with them.

shout out to nintendo for dropping a grenade right on top of the splatoon fanbase, they're already delusional enough about alleged shiver simps that ruin everything, and this is making that worse
but at least now there's no """playing the splatfest wrong""" if you HAVE to choose your favorite idol now, right? and you'll all behave no matter who wins, yes? i sure hope so!

permission to bitch and moan about a random post by some self proclaimed historian on the site famous for its shitty and biased discussions of history?
prefacing by saying that i think this is actually a really interesting discussion to have and that i've seen and read actual historians talk about this topic with the nuance it deserves.
but i cannot help but perceive this type of posts in bad faith as the use of words like "glorifying" is completely lost:
also this kind of post is obv made to stir and attack and doesn't want an honest discussion about women in historical contexts so like. no point at all except being a "white rich women bad" moment which i can understand like this is a silly website. but it grinds my gears.
i'm taking the example of marie antoniette but obv this can be broadened to most major historical figures. discussion of her context and her personality and individuality and how it played a part in the first downfall of monarchy it's not excusing or glorifying her actions. ultimately we have a Lot more personal informations about and by "rich white women" than any other woman who lived in historical contexts because they were the ones who knew how to write. it's not some stereotype perpetuated by contemporary scholars to write and discuss about only rich nobles because they like it lol. and also if you actually studied history in any higher than high school level you would see the efforts that have been made to recover the voices and testimony of the lower classes and other marginalized individuals.
i dont understand the point of making this type of harsh complaints that not only suck out all the "fun" of studying history by realizing how and why all people during all eras were individuals with feelings like ours, but also that are just plain embarassing. you get all your history sources on tiktok that you think this treatment is given only to pretty white rich women? lol
