Synopsis: After Doctor Octopus caused his Aunt May to pass out, Spider-Man is now out for blood. He tears his way into one of the hideouts that Octopus set up when he was operating as he Mater Planner. He finds Octavius' minions, but not his foe. As Spider-Man dispatches the thugs, Doctor Octopus appears on a monitor and mocks Spider-Man. He tells the wall-crawler that he will never catch him and that he is about to stage the crime of the century before terminating communication. Furious, Spider-Man wrecks the equipment in the headquarters before departing. He decides to check the Master Planner's underwater headquarters but discovers that it is still flooded, another dead end. With no other leads, Spider-Man decides to return home and check on Aunt May.
Meanwhile, John Jameson is having a secret meeting to discuss the security procautions being taken to ensure the transport of the nullifier isn't interrupted. When the officials ask about Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus trying to steal it, John assures them that Spider-Man is not the enemy, despite what his father's newspaper says about the wall-crawler. As he goes over the transport route, he is unaware that one of Otto's minions is in the room, having gained access to the meeting through false credentials. By this time, Peter Parker has arrived at the home that his Aunt May shares with Anna Watson. There he is happy to see that she is doing better, although she is troubled about the damage done to the house. When Peter blames it on Doctor Octopus, his aunt still thinks that Octavius is innocent and only reacted that way due to Spider-Man attacking him. He is then visited by both Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy who have come to see how Peter's aunt is doing, and to look at the damage done to the house. Peter worries that the insurance will not be able to cover the repair work.
Back at his hideout, Doctor Octopus is given the route the military will be taking the nullifier through the city. Using a fake repair truck, Doctor Octopus and his minions speed off to steal the nullifier. As the escorted military truck is heading along its route, it happens upon some work being done on electrical cables below the street. As they slow down to pass the caution ropes, Doctor Octopus uses one of his tentacles to attack from the manhole he is hiding in. With his attack covered by smoke grenades, Doctor Octopus incapacitates all the vehicles and manages to steal the nullifier and escape. Otto orders his men to head for a munitions factory owned by Tony Stark, the first place he wants to test out the nullifier. Soon, J. Jonah Jameson arrives on the scene with Joe Robertson and Ned Leeds. Jonah pumps his son to find out if Spider-Man was involved, but there is no evidence to this fact. Jameson then tries to call Peter Parker to come down and take photos. His phone call is answered by Harry Osborn, who is upset at being woken up at 3 AM and angrily hangs up.
When Spider-Man happens upon the scene, he sees that he was too late to stop Doctor Octopus. However, knowing his long time foe, he correctly deduces that Otto would use the Nullifier on the Stark Industries factory. Unafraid of interference from Iron Man, Doctor Octopus uses the Nullifier to incapacitate the guards that are at the front gates. He then increases the power of the device, rendering the factory inert. It's then that Spider-Man arrives on the scene, and begins fighting with Octavius. When the wall-crawler begins gaining the upper hand, Doctor Octopus uses the Nullifier on his foe. The device stuns Spider-Man, and when he recovers, Doctor Octopus is surprised to see that his enemy has been stricken by amnesia. Deciding to take advantage of this new development, Doctor Octopus convinces the disorientated hero that they are allies. No longer remembering who he is, the confused hero decides to believe Otto, believing that he has no other choice.

Tom Blyth and YN Take a Couples Quiz | GQ - actress!yn
Tumblr media
gif by @obriy <333
MASTERLIST | MY PATREON
read my actress!yn x tom insta blurb here <3
//
"Hi I'm YN"
"And I'm Tom"
"And today we're doing..." you looked at Tom so you could say the following part of your introduction together, "The GQ Couple Quiz!"
"Are you nervous?" you said as you looked at him, noticing his hands fidgeting on his lap.
"I'm alright, I'm pretty confident I'm a great boyfriend and I'll know all the answers." he gave the camera his million dollar smile and you couldn't help but show a smile of your own.
"Okay, first question," you looked at the card in your hands, "What is the name of my first movie?
"That one's pretty easy," he shrugged before continuing, "Spider-man Homecoming."
"That's correct," you flipped the card to read the next question, "What city did I grow up in?
Tom stayed quiet for few seconds, looking nervously at the camera and making you laugh.
"Already? Really?" you looked at him in disbelief, "I thought you were a great boyfriend!"
"I am! This is a tricky one!" Tom moved his hands around and you covered your mouth with the card to hide your laugh "Okay, you were born in California, but you actually grew up in Phoenix."
"Correct! See! You knew it," you grabbed the card with the next question, "What would my job be if I weren't an actress?"
"Detective," Tom quickly said, "100% detective."
"Oh! That was fast," Tom shrugged before you continued, "Okay bonus, what kind of detective?" you looked at him with a raise eyebrow.
"Homicide," he replied quickly again, "All of those true crime podcasts prove it."
"Well yeah, that's true," you smiled as you read out the following question,  "Where was our first date?"
"It was at your house," Tom smiled as he remembered the moment, "And it was playing Clue, and I had to pretend to enjoy that game for you, and it was totally worth it."
"How sweet of you," you smiled at him before continuing, "Oh boy, you have to be specific for this one," Tom raised his eyebrows and waited for you to give him the question, "What is my night routine?"
"So, she puts on this little pink robe," he explained directly to the camera, "And then she puts her hair on one of these stretchy bandanna things so her hair is out of her face," you smiled at him, indicating that he was answering correctly, "Then she washes her face with this like foamy cleanse thing, then she puts on all her creams, and then when she's walking to the bed she turns on the heat, which is probably the only thing that we fight about," you both let out a laugh as he continued, "And then she gets in, she goes by her cupboard and she puts on these really fluffy and ridiculously warm socks and also my really baggy tracksuit bottoms but she rolls 'em and she puts one of my t-shirts 'cause she likes the smell of my aftershave," he smirked and you blushed for a second, "Then she gets in bed and she asks me to put one of these big fluffy, white blankets in the dryer so It's warm, then I tuck her in and put the other blanket on her  and that's it."
"Okay wow, you killed that one," you smiled at him, "You did really well."
The next questions were pretty easy for Tom's liking, getting right your astrological sing, celebrity crush, favorite ice cream flavor and the year you won your first Emmy. He ended up getting 23 points.
Now, it was your turn to answer questions about him.
"You feel ready, love?" he said giving you a smirk and you only nodded motioning him to read the first question, "Okay good luck, how old was I when I got my first role?"
"You were fifteen and already getting cast by Ridley Scott ." you answered confidently and sent a wink his way.
"Neat. What was the name of the high school I graduated from?"
"Was it North Hilld?" at this, Tom raised his eyebrows and shook his head, "Shit! It was Hills something, right?"
"You really don't know the name, love? This is making you look bad!" you covered your face in embarrassment, even tho you knew he was joking, "The correct answer is Arnold Hills."
"Ohhh that's right, give me the next one I'll do better."
"Okay, okay," he looked down at the card with the next question,  "Who's my celebrity crush?"
"Also easy, Jennifer Aniston," you smiled looking at the camera, “You had a poster of her hidden in your closet and all.”
"Nope, you're wrong," you raised your eyebrow at him, pretty sure you were right about your answer, "You're my celebrity crush, love."
"Tom! That was so bad!" you both laughed and he winked to the camera, "This is a serious game."
"Okay, okay, you got that one right," you rolled your eyes with affection as he read your next question, "The next questions are going to be a single sentence answer so I need you to do it as fast as you can, okay?"
"I'm ready, let's do it"
"My go-to Karaoke song?
"Senorita by Justin Timberlake."
"What is my coffee order?"
"Oat milk latte."
"What is my biggest pet peeve?"
"Loud chewers."
"What's my hidden talent?"
"Whistling, like, melodically whistling if that makes sense."
"Okayy, those are all correct," he put the cards on the small coffee table between you, "We make a pretty good team, don´t you think?"
"We do, but I'm pretty sure I won." you shrugged and Tom laughed as you both turned to the camera to say your goodbyes.
"Thank you so much for watching. I personally think I won but we'll see."
"Thank you GQ!" you waved you hand and the camera stopped rolling shortly after.
The video ended up being one of the most watched on GQ's YouTube channel.

Miles morales x super genius male reader, maybe him trying to hide his secret identity from reader but reader figures it out 🧃
A/n: hi 🧃!! Miles Morales is currently my fixation so I’m writing this first despite it coming last! Can be read as Spiderverse or PS4 Miles!
Observant
Miles Morales x genius!male!reader
Tumblr media
( summary: it doesn’t take a genius to see that your boyfriend, Miles, is hiding something. Luckily you are one so you piece things together a little easier )
Warnings?: *pre-established relationship~ light swearing, talks of bruising
!-!more under the cut!-!
You were currently sat in calculus, two seats behind the newer Spider-Man, or Miles Morales, as you know him. He was unmasked and was blending in as a normal student, and though he could fool everyone else you knew better than to fall for his façade. It started around 2 months ago, you'd notice the small bruises that would liter his body while you both were changing in the locker room after gym. You were worried, so you watched him a little closer to make sure he and his home life were alright. However, by looking a little closer you'd notice how he'd disappear right before the newer Spiderman would show up. You noticed how Ganke always covered for him, he always had some sort of excuse for Miles' sudden absence. He was rarely home or in his dorm on the weekends and whenever you'd call him he'd sound super out of breath as if he'd been running all day...or swinging as you deduced. It all just made sense, of course it was him and you were fine with it but you were kind of hurt as well. It's obvious that Ganke knows and that they both think that you don't know and there's no signs that they're ever going to tell you.
As the teacher drowned on and on your stare on Miles only got harder and sharper. Lately he'd been pulling away from you and you have a feeling it's because of this new Spiderman gig. Recently there had been a big fight with a villain group known as The Silencers that ended with a large bridge being destroyed and where did all the blame go? Right onto your boyfriends shoulders. He was blamed for the damage of course, podcasts, news stations, and papers were all talking about the event and you were guessing that it'd made him slightly afraid of the future. He was going to break up with you because of it, you could feel it. He "doesn't want to endanger you" or "get you hurt." You could almost hear him saying it. You wonder if the only reason he hasn't yet is because he can't think of an excuse.
The bell rang and you sighed. You should probably confront him before he tries to end things, you love Miles but you know he can get stuck in his head sometimes. Packing up your things, you rushed to his side so you both could walk to lunch together.
“Ganke caught a cold so I guess it’ll just be us today.” Miles spoke as you both exited the classroom. You nodded, deciding that confronting him alone was probably better for you anyway. After grabbing your respective lunches you suggested eating somewhere other than the lunchroom because it’s usually very loud and crowded, and telling your boyfriend that you know he’s Spider-Man in there could lead to someone overhearing. So now you both were walking and talking while Miles attempted on snacking little by little as you made your way to the Music room. It’s usually empty at lunch, though there could be a few stragglers. Still, it’s the only place private enough without being a broom closet or something. Opening the door to the classroom you let out a breath of relief as you realized it was empty, this was great. So now you just have to ask him.
Miles started talking as you both sat down across from each other, a smile was on his face as he could now properly dig into his food. Scanning over him you noticed his knuckles were a bit bruised and you squinted, your eyes flickering back to his. You just couldn’t keep the small attitude you had at bay. It was almost insulting that he thought you wouldn’t figure it out. Either way you loved him, and him being Spider-Man doesn’t change that and now you have to let him know. Placing your hand over his, he stopped his chewing momentarily before smiling and switching to grab your hand properly. “Miles,” you stares into his eyes as he nodded with a hum to signal you to continue. “I’ve been meaning to talk to you about something- well, it’s more like tell you something I guess.” You shrugged and he swallowed, glancing to the side in what you guessed was nervousness. “Is everything alright?” He asked and you nodded, “yeah nothings wrong with me but-“ you sighed, this was weirdly a lot harder to say than you thought. “You know you can talk to me about anything right?” Your eye twitched at the irony of the situation and you sighed.
“Funny you say that actually, ‘cause you seem to have not been so honest with me.” you started, furrowing your eyebrows a bit, Miles' nervous smile returned to his face. "I- what?" "You're Spider-Man." You stated, deciding to just get straight to the point. Miles' mouth was left agape at your bluntness. His eyes left yours but only for a second before his mouth slowly closed, an audible gulp projecting into the room. "I...whatttt,," he shifted back, giving a few chuckles as his eyes flickered away from you. "That's- that's crazy Y/n, I think you've been pulling too many all-nighters lately." His smile faltered as you rolled your eyes. "You're a terrible liar," He let out a deep exhale, flopping forward completely resting himself on the desk in front of him. "How did you know? Did Ganke tell you?" He asked, lifting his head just enough to look at you. "No," you spoke with a laugh, "I'm just not an idiot," You crossed your arms and smirked. "It's really not the hard to connect the dots Miles, honestly I'm a little insulted that you'd think I wouldn't notice that something was going on with you." Picking himself up, he sighed, a small frown resting on his face as he thought over his next words. "Look I'm sorry I never told you, it's not that I don't trust you but I just-" "Don't want me to get hurt?" He slowly nodded, "Miles-" "It's dangerous Y/n," "I know that, but it'll be ok." You grabbed his face in your hands, massaging his jawline to calm him down, smiling at the feeling of him leaning into your touch. "Because if I'm ever in danger...I know you'll be there to protect me." You leaned in to place a small kiss under his eye, "I don't want this to be something that pulls us apart.." you mumble and Miles sighs, placing his hand on top of yours. "I don't either..." Leaning in quickly, he placed a kiss to your lips before giving you a wide smile. "And it won't, I promise." "Good."

Gin's 2023 sappy post
It's hard for me to believe that at the beginning of this year, I didn't know a single one of my best friends in the world existed. But it's true!
How we got here
I'm not quite sure exactly when I started looking up Pedro Pascal on Tumblr, but it was sometime after February. I'd watched Game of Thrones and Oberyn was my favorite character, but I was in one of my periods of not being on Tumblr (I've had this account for about 10 years, but it's seen many fandoms and I haven't always been active).
I watched the first few episodes of The Last of Us that had come out - I was 3 episodes behind I think - and immediately looked up Joel Miller on Tumblr. How could I not? Anyway, give me ten minutes on this hellsite and a middle aged man with a huge imdb and watch me develop a hyperfixation.
So then I looked up interviews. I watched basically every interview this man ever did, but I remember that the Lie Detector interview and his appearance on the Talk Easy podcast are really what did me in. I went from admiring this man as an actor and thinking he's pretty to basically being in love with him.
Anyways....
I didn't mean to start reading fanfic? I come from the world of Destiel on AO3. I never wrote it, I just read copious amounts of it. I'd never read reader insert, much less straight reader insert, and I'd never written a word of anything even resembling a fanfiction.
But I found @prolix-yuy, @frannyzooey, @joelscruff, @fuckyeahdindjarin, and @ezrasbirdie (check the spreadsheet, y'all are at the very top!) and I was hooked.
Then I read Psychomanteum by @whatsnewalycat and Celestial Navigation by @write-and-buried and was inspired to parade my trauma around in a Dieter shaped trench coat: AGOY was born.
@beskarandblasters is the first person I really talked to on here. In fact, Kel is the one who introduced me to most of my friends on here. And we've been harassing each other on the daily since. I hope to 🦵 her in real life someday soon ❤️. I love you, bitch. You mean the world to me.
I could never ever ever list all of my dear friends I've made on here. Seriously, there are so many of you that mean the world to me. But I'm gonna list a few.
My cannibal crew @pr0ximamidnight and @atinylittlepain, without whom Love as Violence Dave (starving season), Head up his Ass Javi (in the a.m.), and the later editions of loser druggie Dieter (AGOY) would not exist - or at least they wouldn't be as good as they are.
My darling soup snake, the loml, my spider twin, my forever partner in making bitches cry (it's us, we're bitches, making each other cry in an endless loop) @ramblers-lets-get-ramblin. #1 AGOY stan forever, you may love my own magnum opus more than I love it. Thanks for listening to me scream about every pedro boy on the planet and thanks for screaming right back at me. I love you.
The random college student I found by accident, decided to take under my wing, and then was subsequently taken under their wing bc it turns out they have more fandom experience and life advice than I can ever hope to have @idolatrybarbie. Bea, my darling, thanks for always letting me bitch, for showing me fics I never thought I'd be into (The Santa Claus AU Frankie Morales Free Use Kink, anyone) but that I often was into, for encouraging my writing, and for being fucking real with me.
The pedrostories crew, but especially @pedrorascal - I love screaming about Pedro with you at... 2:30 in the morning my time (we love time zones!). Thanks for letting me be a terrible mod for your fic archive blog and never getting mad at me for not doing my job. And for being a wonderful, kind, amazing person all the fucking time.
I'm being so serious when I say I could list at least 20 more people. People who brightened my day with a reblog or a message. Or who wrote a fic I still think about at least once a week. Or who made a gifset that is permanently etched into my brain. People I talked to in discords and most likely trauma dumped on and they listened and they cared and they let me hold their trauma in return. I love you guys so fucking much.
Conclusion
I never could have imagined I'd be a writer and run a fic rec blog at 24. Especially not for Pedro Pascal Characters. But here we are -- and I can honestly say it has been the highlight of my year. And I bought a house this year.
I have so many new friends and a new hobby (I never wrote at all before this) just because I wanted to Fuck That Old Man. Incredible.

Scriddler fic recommendations!!!
Stay (2017) by iammemyself
Rating: General
49,873 words, 11/11 chapters (discontinued)
Arkhamverse
After Arkham Knight, Jonathan and Edward move to Canada together, where the full weight of Edward's grief crashes down on the both of them.
This fic is fucking miserable in the best way possible. It feels so grey and depressing like almost the entire time even with its ups and downs. Things get better, but it's fucking hard. Legit among my favorite fics. Also Jon's so obscenely old here I love it lmfao. (There's also a Stay (2016) I haven't actually looked at, might be a prequel or smthn idk)
I'm With You by nonbinaryspock
Rating: Mature
50,684 words, 35/35 chapters
Jonathan and Edward rekindle their somewhat messy relationship from their college years. Things are still a bit messy but they've at least got some hindsight.
Hella angsty, they're both so horribly dysfunctional <3 (specifically Jonathan will just say/think the absolute wildest shit and then just go on like that's normal). I really just love how visceral their emotions can be.
Runs In The Family by ChaoticMimzy
Rating: Mature
8,703 words, 5/5 chapters
Edward's father dies and he goes to his funeral (solely to be there for his sister, mind you) where he grapples with past trauma and catholic guilt.
Very very rogues podcast coded (highest compliment). It's mostly Edward-centric and doesn't focus on the scriddler too much but it's still worth a read. Edward's rage towards his childhood circumstances is so potent and agonizing I love it so much. He should get to kill god a little bit imo
(More below)
Let me play you a song on my violin by batmanforeverlol
Rating: Teen
7,206 words, 1/1 chapters
Ghost AU. Edward is a retired criminal turned private investigator who finds himself running through a cemetery, where he meets a man playing a violin.
Ngl I cried super hard reading this but it's also one of my absolute favorites. Why would you write this? Why would you hurt me in this way? (It's really sweet but also really fucking sad, you should read it. Share my pain)
Terminal by iammemyself, promethea (Aerosol)
Rating: General
7,073 words, 1/1 chapters
Edward gets brain cancer again, this time the Lazarus pits aren't gonna help him.
As you could imagine, this fic is just sad from start to finish. I cried so fucking much reading it its not even funny.
He Just Likes The Rush by Human_Resourccs
Rating: General
16,072 words, 9/9 chapters
Jonathan's thrill-seeking brings him some interesting company. (Or, as I know it: the fic where a fucking spider lives in Jonathan's hair for months and Edward still lets him touch him. If that's not love I don't know what is)
Sapiophile by XavIniesta685
Rating: Mature
17,529 words, 3/3 chapters
The Moon Is Not Made Of Cheese by Stry_Shttu
Jonathan has given up in every sense and is about to leave Gotham until a series of events change his mind. A lot of "falling in love within a day" fics can feel kinda forced but this one flows really naturally.
Rating: Teen
7,820 words, 1/1 chapters
Arkhamverse
Edward is lonely, Jonathan goes to see him while also being Jason Todd's really lame dad. A good mix of sweet and silly.
The Boy With The Thorn In His Side by 30PacketsofKetchup
Rating: Teen
21,542 words, 8/? chapters (this fic hasn't been updated in like 5 years so be ready for that specific brand of agony)
Teenager AU. Jonathan meets the mildly annoying new boy in town and they bond.
I looove this fic so much I'm absolutely heartbroken that it wasn't ever finished. Idk the vibes are nice and I love how flustered young Jon gets when he's got a crush.
South of Hell by nonbinaryspock
Rating: Teen
14,194 words, 35/35 chapters
Teenager AU. No one in their awful little town likes Edward or Jonathan, but they've at least got eachother. Very southern gothic.
Exit Wounds by nonbinaryspock
Rating: Teen
18,066 words, 38/38 chapters
Demon/supernatural AU. Edward is a private investor and his demon ex-boyfriend suddenly shows up after 5 years in need of a place to stay. Edward is thoroughly unimpressed.
I'm in love with this AU big time, it's got some pretty neat world building. I also love how distinctive the characterizations here are. BAH I'm not great at describing but it's very angsty and good.
Frighteningly Unprofessional by bookynerdgoblin
Rating: Mature
28,412 words, 11/11 chapters
One of Jonathan's students knows about his unethical experiments, however instead of reporting him, he offers to help in exchange for his partnership. Things spiral from there. Edward is purposefully being super obvious and Jonathan talks to his cat like a person.
Words by scarecrowv
Rating: General
4,651 words, 1/1 chapters
Edward's daughter keeps calling Jon "mama" and he has no idea how to handle it, aka psychology professor Dr Jonathan Crane talks to a 2 year old like an adult.
A Case Study in Step-Parenting by Ifthinkerwrites
Rating: General
16,053 words, 5/5 chapters
Another lil scriddler family fic, Jonathan navigates step-parenthood :)
Sitzfleisch by SproxGrail
Rating: Mature
1,205 words, 1/? chapters
Jonathan is living in Edward's walls and talks about him like a little freak. I need this fic to update again please please please it's so creepy I'm in love with it
Some series to look at as well!
Memoryverse by Enigmatic_Robin
Rating: General
15,393 words, 11 works
A bit more of a psychological horror/thriller than a romance. Jonathan is manipulating Edward into complete dependency. It seems easy while Edward is in love with him, but he'd better watch out for when that veil slips.
Scriddler Family AU by Enigmatic_Robin
Rating: General
17,722 words, 9 works
Scarecrow and Riddler end up raising Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake. And all the shenanigans that come with that.
Love Me Dead by lymongrab
Rating: Explicit
25,624 words, 6 works
Kinda just a nice progression in Jonathan and Edward's relationship with some added spice here and there. Mostly pretty sweet.
Arkhamverse by iammemyself
Rating: General
354,608 words, 28 works
In which Edward and Jonathan's relationship is a bit complicated, but Edward is also a robot dad!!
(Everything from here is nsfw centric)
This section would be longer but i actually found out the person who wrote some nsfw fics i really liked was actually a proshipper weirdo so I'm not including those. Why can't people be normal
Kiss The Go-Goat by korereapers
Rating: Explicit
5,203 words, 1/1 chapters
Demon AU. Edward summons a demon and gets a little carried away
Shout out to this fic for getting me into Ghost, the only band I ever listen to now lmfao. Anyway I'm a big sucker for anything involving monster/demon/creature!Jon
Connected by korereapers
Rating: Explicit

Jonathan doesn't really know how to handle any sensation that isn't painful.

If DC is to a "Ultimate DC" for Superman? What would be your preferred vision / direction for Superman and his mythology? In other words, how would you handle an "Ultimate DC" Superman?
If DC has greenlit this, it's 100% because of the success of Hickman's Ultimate Marvel relaunch. Therefore the logical thing to do is take a look at what Hickman has done. His Ultimate line is a success in part because it serves as a contrast to the main 616 universe, while also throwing in a few genuine curveballs to attract interest. Approaching an Ultimate Superman with that mindset, here's his status quo as I would establish it:
Tumblr media
First off: Put him in a different suit. The only complaint I have with regards to Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man is that he's wearing the classic suit with a slightly different spider symbol. I get that 1610 Peter was the same. and Hickman is simply following tradition, but I think that if you plan on having an alternate counterpart to your main hero exist on an ongoing basis, their costumes should be different enough to let anyone identify who is who at a glance. For an Ultimate Superman, that means a different s-shield and no trunks. Let the Earth 0 guy wear the classic outfit, and put Ultimate Superman in something like the pic above. Also incorporate some of the New 52 designs that marked him as younger, like the messier hair.
Earth 0 Superman serves as the head of an extended "family" who wear variations on his crest and share in his mission. Ultimate Superman therefore should be a loner, at least at the start. No Kara, John Henry Irons, Kon, Kenan, or any other fellow Supers. No World's Finest partnership or Justice League either, I want Ult. Supes isolated.
Hickman gave us a married Spider-Man to contrast with the eternal bachelor 616 Spider-Man. Therefore the Ultimate Superman should be the eternal bachelor to his married mainline counterpart. Therefore if he's dating anyone it should not be Lois. Pair him with Lana or a villain like Livewire/Maxima, make a new OC love interest, don't have him dating anyone at the start, whatever. But we've seen Clark and Lois together as boyfriend/girlfriend and as husband/wife, don't immediately rush into that here. Keeping this Superman free to date others helps keep him unique and worth reading on an ongoing basis.
Against my wishes, Pa and Ma are alive again on Earth 0. Fine - kill them off here. Again, Earth 0 Superman has the large family, Ultimate Superman is a loner.
Keep the power levels low. My preference would be to have this Superman starting off at Golden Age/early New 52 levels of strength. He can't fly, can't bench press a planet, can't liquify concrete with a glare, can't hear a bird squawk a galaxy across, he's a street level hero who's basically Spider-Man tier. Earth 0 Superman is insanely powerful thanks to PKJ buffing him, let's make this guy more grounded.
We need a few wild curveballs like how Hickman killed Aunt May but kept Uncle Ben alive on Earth 6160, or how Peter and Harry don't know each other at all. My approach? Ultimate Clark does not work for a news organization, not a traditional print/legacy one anyway. He does not work for the Daily Planet, or even the Daily Star, he works as a writer for the popular podcast Wired In With Williams, hosted by Leslie Williams and exclusively licensed by CatCo (major entertainment/new conglomerate owned by CEO Cat Grant). Lois and her comrades at the Daily Planet are Clark's rivals, the dying remnants of traditional journalism who are giving way to the "new media". I would defy tradition by not having Clark ultimately join the Daily Planet - instead the Planet ultimately closes it's doors and it's Lois and her co-workers who find their way to Catco.
Jimmy is not a photographer, he's a vlogger and an incredibly popular one too. Everyone loves seeing him investigate weird shit that frequently results in Superman showing up to bail him out. Clark also helps script Jimmy's videos like he does with Leslie, and the two are close. They were roommates but Jimmy ended up moving somewhere nicer while Clark remains living in Suicide Slum.
Current Superman run makes heavy use of Lex - therefore I'd buck tradition again and not have Lex be featured for the first year. Instead, Ultra-Humanite and his Intergang, Red Cloud and the Invisible Mafia, and the secretive group known only as the 100 serve as the criminal foes Superman must face, with Maggie Sawyer and her Special Crimes Unit hunting Superman for his vigilante activities.
Earth 0 Superman is beloved and trusted, Ultimate Superman is hated and feared. People do not like or trust this freak, even the common folks Superman is trying to protect. He's viewed as a dangerous outlaw with uncertain motives. At the start people do not know he's an alien, most believe him to be a human with superpowers.
Instead of the North Pole, Superman's Fortress is in a pocket dimension called "The Phantom Zone", and he is able to teleport there via a "signal watch".
This is the basic building blocks for how I would approach creating an "Ultimate Superman". It's a status quo that is recognizably Superman, but also different enough from the mainline version to intrigue.

yo i just wanted to let you know that all your spider-man and daredevil and then stuff is still some of my favorite content on the internet. ik you have retired from that sync for the most part but it’s all sick :))))
also do u think that one could read and enjoy your star wars stuff having never watched any of the movies?
AW. Thank you!
As for the Star Wars stuff, I must ask the audience: Do folks feel comfortable reading my SW fics without having much context?
I think you could probably get away with it for most of the series on the deniigiq account. The qigiined account tends to be more in the weeds with Legends material, but it does lean into some of my stranger premises, so I guess it’s sort of more about what you’d like to read.
If you want a base starting point to get used to the characters, you can start with these couple:
Impossible Scenario: https://archiveofourown.org/works/30779087
Spiderman/Star Wars crossover. Luke Skywalker/Din Djarin (the Mandalorian), bonus with Ned getting to meet his Star Wars heroes. Peter tries to help Luke unite with his long-lost love, and finds that, for the first time, he is not the most chaotic person in New York City.
An Injury to One: https://archiveofourown.org/works/35259241/chapters/87869434
If you’ve never seen Star Wars: The Clone Wars, you can probably briefly google a synopsis and then read this with a vague understanding of military command.
Folks tend to enjoy this one because it is about unionizing and dick pics. The general premise is that the clone army joins forces with the Jedi to go on strike against the leaders of the Republic (specifically, the sith Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious).
They’re neutral: https://archiveofourown.org/works/40078644
This is an AU of a podcast episode from Criminal; it is a very soft entry into Star Wars if you can find humor and delight in a marshal commander of the grand army of the republic having to contend with people like trash collectors and the nosy backyard neighbor.
The plot is that the Commander (Cody) buys a shitty house to fix up and gets angry about people using a nearby roundabout as a neighborhood dump site, so he puts up a statue and secret Jedi start worshipping around it.
I’d be interested to hear what other folks think, though!

"common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about"
Once again? Captain Boomerang is racist. Y'ALL ARE SO WRONG ABOUT THAT.
But for the sake of not sounding like a broken record... Captain Boomerang is an assassin/mercenary/killer of any kind.
Y'all didn't read any of the source material for Boomerang except for Identity Crisis, huh. I KNOW ALL OF YOU THAT THINK THIS ARE GODDAMN TIM DRAKE FANS TOO!!! Bitches really saw one comic where he acted super out of character and decided for yourselves that that's how he acted all the damn time huh. Bet you don't even know about the Rogues having a no killing rule. What? You think that I'm talking about the Rogues Podcast now for some goddamn reason??? THE ROGUES ARE LITERALLY WHAT FLASH ROGUES CALL THEMSELVES AND IT'S BEEN THAT WAY FOR DECADES!!!! (Apologies to any normal fans about the Rogues Podcast). Seriously like... Boomerang normally doesn't get all stabby unless someone is threatening to blow up his head. The exception because the situation with Hack. My guy was literally so canonically guilt ridden about that and was fine with paying the consequences of his actions not once, not twice, but 3 fucking times. I get the first 2 honestly. Like... Glad he faces some consequences but the 3rd time was a bit overkill. But like... The reason why he killed Hack was not for money. It wasn't for fame. It was to prove to himself he was still a villain. While it wasn't really explored all that much in canon, literally it could have been this whole thing where he figures out he can be a bad guy without being a terrible person. But DC employees are cowards and will not do anything interesting with him. Or anything with him in general.
"worst blorboficiation"
Captain Boomerang is not popular enough for this to have happened to him. He's gained popularity but he still isn't even as popular as characters with a cult following like Kite-Man. So I'm just going to say "What the MCU did to Spider-Man" and call it a day. Cuz let me tell you. Spider-Man is not like that in comics. Go watch Spectacular Spider-Man. They did a better job 😤

God tier
Matthew Swift series and Magicals Anonymous duology by Kate Griffin (reread). London sorcerer is raised from the dead and accidentally gets fused to the blue electric angels of the telephone lines along the way. Luscious prose, best urban magic I've ever read, and wickedly funny sense of humor.
Kane and Feels - podcast. Paranormal investigators go around London poking the mystic forces with a sharp stick. Surreal. Funny. Moderately comprehensible. There's nothing else quite like it. Someone described it as "the anti-TMA: you cannot form any theories about it no matter how hard you try."
The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North (reread) - two time travelers, defined as people stuck in time loops of their own lives, attempt to unravel the mystery of their existence. Suspenseful and beautifully constructed piece of nonlinear storytelling.
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender (reread) - Rose tastes people's emotions in food. Her brother disappears into thin air. Their parents are fine. Surreal and haunting pearl of a story.
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson - after a family tragedy, the surviving Blackwoods live in isolation from the village. A little Piranesi-ish subverted horror: the sense there's a secret at the heart of the world, and the secret is both joyful and terrible.
Our Flag Means Death - the crangst-filled pirate show that it seemed like the internet lost its mind over, for good reason.
Bee and Puppycat: Lazy in Space - Bee travels between the island and fishbowl space working temp jobs with Puppycat, until their pasts catch up with them. Dreamy, bittersweet, and gorgeous. Season finale was a banger.
Vesper Flights by Helen MacDonald (reread). Nature essays on humans and birds. Quiet, luminous, and filled with love of place. Faves were "The Human Flock", "High Rise", "Eulogy", and "What Animals Taught Me"
Natsume's Book of Friends (anime) - Technically about boy who can see youkai, learning how to navigate the world of human relationships. But really about masking, healing from trauma, and learning to trust.

HELP i found the statement I wrote after the jurgen leitner rant started showing up in my dreams.
“Statement of Sloane Saccharanth, regarding an unusual few paragraphs and their trip to London. Original statement given March 12th, 2022. Audio recording by Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London.
Statement Begins.
I don't even remember how I got to London, if I'm honest with you. I mean, I don’t exactly live nearby, it’s not the sort of trip you forget about, like stopping in for a few minutes at the post office or grocery store. Even if it was just a jaunt, it still seems odd I’d forget even wanting to visit.
Nothing about this makes sense until I remember the noise, and it all falls back into place. The words drown it all out, regardless of what I want to remember.
I've always been good at memorizing things. I was the 'Queen of Poetry' every April whenever the school librarian held poetry week. I'm sure my classmates hated me, awkward and stone still, reciting poems at were at least a page long for the all important prize of a color changing pencil.
One time I memorized the entire Paul Revere poem, all 6 pages. I still remember the opening.
'Twas the 18th of April in '75 and hardly a man is still alive, who remembers the famous day and year of the midnight ride of Paul Revere.'
This is to say, once something is in my brain, it's stuck there for a good long while yet.
It started innocuously. Well, really it started with a copypasta. You do know what a copypasta is right? Right, okay well I spend a lot of time drawing or painting or just generally checked out making things for my classes. I'm an art student, which is a whole different statement in it of itself, but it also means that if I want to pay attention to something with visuals, I'm straight out of luck.
So, podcasts.
I've been relistening to one recently, and while I was messing around on youtube and looking at fan content people had made for the show, one video in particular popped up.
It was a rant about a man named Jurgen Leitner, who was offhandedly mentioned in the show a few times before being brutally murdered on screen by one of the main villains with a pipe.
I won't repeat the rant here, for the sake of your sanity as much as my own, but I thought it was funny and resolved to memorize it.
I was stupid, so stupid. It started small, the compulsion.
At first it was just obsessively tracking down the second part of the rant, once I knew there was one after seeing it mentioned in another post. I did find it, but when I finally finished reading it I realized just how in depth I'd gone to find it, how intense I'd been about tracking it down, for no reason other than that I felt like I needed to know.
I was over at my girlfriend’s apartment, trying to fall asleep, when I realized there was the faintest whisper of words replaying constantly in my head. "Jurgen Leitner? Stupid Idiot Motherfucking Jurgen Leitner?" Over and over and over again, spiraling through my thoughts and corrupting the few synapses I still had left with that insipid, unrelenting chant.
I had memorized it on accident in my obsession.
When I finally did fall asleep, it was there too. The writing in my dreams was scrawled all over with it, audio looping over character dialogue. It was too deeply stupid to be scary but- well, I wouldn't be here telling you this if I didn't think there was some sort of end game.
I don't know what it means but I do know that I have somehow ended up wandering through London, to your institute, and that the strings binding me back to this place, to making this statement, are looped far enough under my skin that I can't see them. That, more than any compulsion or control sending words spiraling from my mouth, scares me.
I can't even tell you how you die, much as I'd like to prevent it.
I never did mention the name of that podcast, did I?
It's called the Magnus Archives, and you of all people, Jonathan, should know that spiders don't let their prey free so easily.
Statement Ends. “

Tumblr media
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● does Peter have a darkroom in his bedroom? ● I didn’t know Quicksilver and Wanda are siblings ● it’s weird seeing JJJ without a cigar in his mouth ● pics that will prove Spidey’s innocence
Tumblr media
● 👏👏👏👏
Synopsis: As Peter returns to his apartment and mulls over the fact that he was responsible for giving J. Jonah Jameson a good scare as Spider-Man, he almost blows his secret identity when Harry abruptly returns home.
Meanwhile, having escaped the destruction of Magneto's fortress, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and the Toad debate on what to do now that they are outcasts. Quicksilver believes that the Avengers will take them in and runs to New York to find them. However, upon arriving at Avengers Mansion, he learns from Jarvis that they are away on a mission in Africa. Debating on what to next, Quicksilver learns the Spider-Man is considered a fugitive of the law. He decides to bring Spider-Man to justice as it may be a way to exonerate himself and his sister in the eyes of the world following their recent alliance with Magneto.
Later, Peter arrives at the Bugle to sell his pictures of Spider-Man's battle with the Kingpin. There he finds that Joe Robertson has taken charge of the Bugle while Jonah is in the hospital. When Joe sees that the photos show that Spider-Man was trying to prevent the Kingpin from stealing the tablet, he demands the presses be stopped to send this out as an exclusive. Peter is also surprised by the very generous payment for the photos.
Peter then changes into Spider-Man and delivers the tablet to George Stacy. When Stacy tries to stop Spider-Man to talk to him Spidey can't stop and leaves. On his way home, Spider-Man is so absorbed in how he's going to spend his money that he is taken by surprise when Quicksilver (unaware that Spider-Man's been cleared of any wrong doing) attacks him. Spidey proves to be no match for Quicksilver's superior speed. As their battle rages on, the front page story about Spider-Man's innocence gets to Jameson who freaks out.
Back at the battle between Spider-Man and Quicksilver, Spider-Man finally gets his bearings and uses his spider-sense and Quicksilver's arrogance to his advantage, and knocks the wind out of the speedster. When the police close in to arrest both super-humans, Spider-Man lifts Quicksilver to safety. When Quicksilver revives he realizes what Spider-Man did for him and the two call a truce, and they part as friends.

no-pressure tags for: @wishflower4, @theallknowingowl, @howshouldiknowboutlife
Rules: Go to your published works on AO3 and list the first fic you ever published there, the last fic you published, any fic that you wrote for a fandom/ship only once, your favorite fic you wrote in the fandom/ship that has the most works, the fic you wish more people read, the fic you agonized over the most, the fic that sprang fully formed from your mind without any effort, and a work you are proud of—for whatever reason.
First fic published on Ao3: Teen Wolf, Stiles/Peter, The Raven and the Wolf, posted in 2013. It was an lj exchange fic and before that I mostly posted on the pit of voles and lj. I think that was the time when everything on both sites fully collapsed in terms of fandom stuff, so it was a good time to move over to AO3. My earliest fic posted was on ff.net and from 2005 (I think).
Last fic published: The Magnus Archive, Peter Lukas, drabble, Home Sweet Home, written during the tma convention in one of their panels. I'm currently working on an RQ big bang fic which hopefully will be posted soon.
Fandom/ship I only wrote once: uhhhh a bunch? gave myself the challenge for Whumptober 2022 to write a drabble for a different fandom each day and I'm also a filthy multishipper. I hope to write more for some of these eventually but... Anyway lets stick to fandoms only? long list and the rest of the answers under the cut:
Whitechapel (TV) (1) Star Wars - All Media Types (1) Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett (1) Batman - All Media Types (1) The Mechanisms (Band) (1) The Amazing Spider-Man (Movies - Webb) (1) Star Wars Legends: Thrawn Trilogy - Timothy Zahn (1) The Librarians (TV 2014) (1) Sunless Sea (1) Killjoys (TV) (1) Stardew Valley (Video Game) (1) Kingsman (Movies) (1) The Exorcist (TV) (1) 9-1-1 (TV) (1) Succession (TV 2018) (1) Titans (TV 2018) (1) Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (Anime & Manga) (1) Tales of Arcadia (Cartoons) (1) The Silt Verses (Podcast) (1) Halloween (Movies - Green) Malevolent (Podcast) (1) The Cellar Letters (Podcast) (1) The Locked Tomb Series | Gideon the Ninth Series - Tamsyn Muir (1) Parkdale Haunt (Podcast) (1) Moon Knight (TV 2022) (1) The Sandman (TV 2022) (1) Cobra Kai (TV) (1) Badlands Cola (Podcast) (1) Eat the Rich - Alexander J. Newall (1)
Favorite fic in most popular fandom/ship: sobs in rarepair and mini fandom shipper I've written for bigger fandoms and ships but I'm going to go with Pacific Rim on this one and it's Chuck Hansen&Angela Hansen + Chuck Hansen&Herc Hansen, Universe Hopping fic, Taking a Shot. (also this is me realizing that tma has more fics than pacrim and how? ok well so if we're going with tma then I'm fond of this little dinghy fic feat. Jared Hopworth called Lover's Rose)
Fic I wish more people read: My last years entry for the Rusty Quill Big Bang! Sasha/Grizzop, class swap fic based on a romance novel blurp, A Wicked Liason. Also The Six Disappearances of Ella McCray fics mostly because I wished there was more content for it and more people who listened to it.
Fic I agonized over: All of them, currently the RQBB from this year (coming soon)
Fic that popped out fully-formed: pretty much all of my drabbles and most fics tbh because I don't like writing without having a clear idea of the story. But the last fic that wasn't a drabble that I remember punching it's way into my brain fully formed and then wouldn't leave was Due South, Fraser/RayK, ace discussion fic, Cassette Player.
Fic I'm proud of: All of my longer fics, because I am not very good at writing longer things. But especially Home Coming (Teen Wolf, Stiles- centric, canon divergence) which is 51,687 words long and the longest fic I've ever written. For reference, this is currently longer than my past RQBB fics combined (new fic not counted).

i have four really amazing partners! i live with two of them and our adorable kitty.
my gender is in a sort of soft enby boy kinda place.
i'm ace, but hella kinky & hella subby. please bully me. (consensually.)
i’m an extremely novice polytheistic witch.
i’m a furry kinda?
i’ve worked in the service industry for my entire adult life (okay to be fair that’s a not so cool thing about me), in retail for a long time (that sucked) and now as a barista (that sucks markedly less and i’m extremely good at it). FUCK ALL THAT SHIT I GOT A KICKASS JOB AT MY LOCAL COMIC/GAME SHOP, LET'S GOOOOOOOOO.
if it ever seems like i’m autistic or i have adhd, that would be because i’m autistic and i have adhd.
dnis/content warning/etc after the cut.
so, yeah! i’ll probably write about movies and tv (but not like, tv that your coworkers at work incorporated are talking about like … whatever replaced game of thrones as that thing, more like… star trek: the next generation or that she-ra reboot that is just old enough to not be relevant anymore but just recent enough to not be a trendy rediscovery) and definitely books and maybe podcasts and maybe video games? i tend to play video games in spurts so it’ll be a lot at times, and radio silence at other times.
just for funsies, here’s a brief list of fandoms i gravitate strongly towards! some of these things might not be actually fandoms or might not have very active fandoms idk? i might write about these more often or have stronger opinions about them. or not? adhd! these can alternatively be read as additional reasons to bully me. please feel free to read them that way.
sonic the hedgehog
pokémon
star trek
dungeons & dragons (and, relatedly, dimension 20)
kaiju movies
anime and manga kinda?
cartoons kinda if that counts? (current favorites: the owl house, she-ra reboot, futurama, star trek: lower decks wait that should go in star trek not cartoons or should it go in both oh no)
comic books/superheroes kinda? (the archie sonic the hedgehog and dark horse star wars comics were a huge part of my childhood, i also got hella into batman, spider-man, and x-men at times.)
undertale
knives out? is that a fandom? whatever. i love those movies.
the matrix
the wachowski sisters’ oeuvre in general (speed racer is one of my favorite movies of all time.)
lord of the rings (the movies, not the books)
halloween. the holiday, not the movie. the color orange. pumpkins. etc. yeah, i’m weirded out that it took me until comparatively recently to realize i needed to be a witch, but here we are. (oh yeah i’ll also probably write about witchy stuff at times? maybe.)
not harry potter anymore for obvious reasons, but things that hit a similar spot? (really loving the simon snow books rn.)
star wars? (i used to be a huge fan and read all the eu books and wrote fanfiction but idk i’m kind of bored of it lately? but with the way adhd works maybe i’ll get obsessed again, who knows. probably not though. this is less to indicate active engagement in the fandom, more to indicate it used to be A Thing so if i suddenly have very strong opinions about it outta nowhere, there ya go.)
james cameron’s avatar i guess? i got really into avatarland after watching a really cool youtuber’s video about it, and then i actually went to avatarland (yes i’ve called it that twice now despite knowing that’s not what it’s called but also that’s totally what it’s called leave me alone) on a family vacation and i am literally wearing an avatarland spirit jersey i bought on etsy while typing this and i am incapable of irony so my enthusiasm for avatarland kinda spilled over to appreciating the source media okay i’m gonna stop this extremely long parenthetical now thank you for coming to my james cameron talk.
but like, i like other stuff that’s not media too! like… organizing media on shelves? (why have i not been shoved in a locker yet what the heck.) okay, that’s another thing about me. i’m kind of an amateur librarian? i might also talk about theme parks i go to when that happens (a few of my partners are super into those so yeah!). and museums!
on a less fun note, please do not interact with me if you're transphobic/homophobic/racist/etc etc. just don't. i'm just gonna block you, it's really not worth either of our time. also please do not interact with me if you're a minor, and please do not flirt with me if you're technically not a minor but are significantly younger than me. i'm just not comfortable with it.
if you're an anti-shipper you'd probably consider me a pro-shipper? i don't super care about those kinds of labels but i know that's like... A Thing here, and want to be very clear. so if you don't want to interact with people who don't think fanfiction should be policed & criticized as though it were real life or general audience mass media, you probably don't want to interact with me. if i do write any fanfic i will tag it appropriately, but i really think everyone needs to calm down about this shit.
and last but not least, i will tag liberally, but a blanket content warning:
i frequently explicitly discuss themes of kink, sexuality, violence, mental health, and other mature themes in a manner intended for an adult audience.
also, i am a survivor of both childhood and intimate partner emotional abuse, as well as sexual assault, and these come up frequently in my writing. reader discretion is advised.
on a less serious note, i am unapologetically kinky, subby, and thirsty af and i’m going to include a lot of personal asides from that perspective. i’m also a furry and a monsterfucker. don’t say i didn’t warn you.
see you around, hopefully!

xvi: Back To Work
Cat had the irking suspicion that Clint's idea was not far from the truth, perhaps she needed to make up her mind for once and stay, without no one telling her what to do. She'd been a good hero once, she could be it again.
"Do you think that the tracksuits were after anything else at that auction?"
"I don't know, I was pretty focused on Jack and Armand..."
"It's pretty upsetting to think there might be stuff from the Avengers Compound floating around out there, don't ya think, Cat?"
She looked at him with surprise. "I don't know, there was a lot of Stark tech and suits... but uh... Most of the stuff was Steve's and mine. Everyone else lived out of the compound, remember?"
"I lived there for a while, and so did Lang."
"Oh yeah, Lang and his super ultra-secret weapons we never knew about," Cat scoffed. "I was on a mission last year, the only mission I had as an agent if we don't count Spider-man's fiasco in London, and I don't count that, obviously—"
"You went on a mission with Spider-man?" Kate asked. "That's awesome!"
"That's not the point," Cat brushed it aside. "We recovered most of the stuff, so maybe the Ronin suit was the remnant. If anything, it's been years, we can't do much."
"Maybe we can," Clint nudged Kate's shoulder. "You still think Jack is involved somehow?"
"Yes, there's too many coincidences! He was at the auction that night, and yesterday he offered me a butterscotch!"
Clint glanced at Cat with confusion. "Not exactly a crime..."
"When I tried to stab his face to prove he was lying, he parried like a pro."
"You tried to stab your mom's fiance?"
"It sounds like you're the murderer here," Cat said.
"No no, he has everything to gain from Armand's death," Kate insisted.
"The Jack thing is weird. I get it. But it's not exactly airtight."
"Right! Which is why we need more evidence!" Kate agreed. "And why we're gonna sneak into my mom's penthouse!"
"What?"
"We can get into her company's files, Bishop Security has a huge criminal database! There's gotta be info on the tracksuits and Jack in there!"
Clint could only stare at her, but it was harder to render Cat speechless. "If I were the director of a company specializing in security, the first thing I'd do after meeting a guy would be to check his criminal records."
"You read my mind," Clint agreed.
"Jack... What's his full name?"
"Jack Duquesne."
Cat laughed. "I know that guy! He's a puppy, Kate, you must be confused—"
"Don't be condescending, okay? I know what I'm talking about," the girl pouted. "Let's just try it my way once, and if it turns out you're right I promise I'll leave him alone. Happy?"
"Oh no, but I am amused," Cat winked at her.
Kate looked away, as upset as she was flustered.
Tumblr media
"Holy shit! If your family turns out to be innocent, I know which Christmas party I'll be crashing!"
"Jeez, this is a home?" Clint stepped out of the elevator and looked around the Bishop's place.
"Yeah, uh, my great-great-great-great grandfather built the building," Kate pointed at the ceiling. "I tried to swing from that very chandelier and broke my arm. So uh, yeah, pretty impressive family, all the way around."
"My great-great-great-great grandfather could kick your great-great-whatever's ass," Cat joked. "He was a Skrull so perhaps your old man would've died of shock had he met him."
Clint looked at her. "That is exactly what we mean by unprompted batshit stuff."
Cat followed Kate to the living room, or at least what she guessed was a sitting area, whatever it was, big and fancy. She'd never liked those kinds of places, she could do the Avengers compound only cause it wasn't designed to be luxurious and elegant. It was huge, yes, but mostly practical and simplistic.
She had this clear memory of the movie nights with Rocket and Pietro, and the one time she'd shared beers with Nat and Steve— the training sessions with Harley, and the history classes with Kurt...
Something moved, but not in the room they were in.
"Someone's here."
Clint left the room at her warning, Cat followed him out. The man was about to enter a new room when a sword stopped him from stepping forward, Cat yanked him back and was about to grab her taser spear when Kate pushed both of them behind her.
"Jack, no!"
"What the hell is going on?" Kate's mother showed up. "And why is there an Avenger in my dining room?"
"Hi," Clint smiled, Cat waved trying to look innocent.
"Oh, my God!" Jack exclaimed. "You're... you're archer!"
"Hawkeye," Kate corrected.
"Clint," the man clarified.
"It's the branding issue, I'm telling you."
"Not the time..." Cat muttered.
"And who are you?" Kate's mother asked her.
Kate looked between them with a startled expression. "Right. Well, she's—"
"Kate's girlfriend," Cat said.
The archer turned to look at her with wide eyes, and mouthed "WHAT?", Cat approached shyly.
"We... we've been together for a while and she said I could come... I hope it's okay?"
The woman was so surprised she forgot about Clint for a moment. "I... Hi! What's your name?"
"Cat Maxwell," she pushed her sunglasses up revealing a sweet pair of brown eyes. "Nice to meet you!"
"Sorry I didn't tell you about this, mom," Kate glanced at Cat. "With everything that's happened since I got here I just..."
"It's okay," the woman brushed it aside. "Of course you can stay, we're happy to have you. I'm Eleanor, this is Jack."
"Hi," Cat smiled.
"So," Eleanor looked back at Kate. "That explains her, but why is Hawkeye here?"
Kate looked over her shoulder at Cat, but she just smiled in return.
"Why don't we take a seat?"
Tumblr media
"Someone used my laptop to sign onto my work account ten minutes ago. Any thoughts, Kate?" The woman looked at them. "Hawkeye? Cat?"
"You'll never get anything outta them. See, CB-One has trouble opening up—"
"Nobody calls me CB-One," Clint retorted.
"Just trying something new there for a second," she faced her mom, "probably some early childhood thing. He thinks he doesn't tell me much but he ends up telling me all of it."
"I tell her nothing."
"Yeah, I think it's cause I'm generally pretty chill, you know? I'm not like, 'Oh my God! Hawkeye!"
"Definitely not chill."
"C'mon, Mr. Barton," Cat intervened. "Kate is put together, she'd be about to die and still sit there talking about bows," Kate glared at her. "You just give off that vibe, honey."
Tumblr media
Cat got out of the awkward family reunion by telling them she'd promised to visit a friend in town. Kate offered to walk her out and while they were waiting for the elevator she got closer.
"What was that?"
"The thing where I called you honey, or Clint admitting you guys are working together?"
"The part where you're my girlfriend," she raised a brow. "We could've just said you were a friend."
"People do stupid things during the holidays, like bringing strangers to their homes to try and prove that they're happy or whatever. You get it? If I were a friend, and you didn't know basic stuff about me, that'd be suspicious. This is better."
Kate tilted her head. "Maybe."
"I'm gonna leave you to deal with the scolding waiting for you back there, and I'll find Clint to talk about the things you guys found— good luck!"
The elevator's door opened and she stepped inside. Kate stopped the door from closing. "Okay even if it was a good idea, you promised Clint not to flirt with me..."
Cat laughed. "I'm not! The last time I went out with someone like you, I was bored to death. I gotta give it to you, though, no one's been this eager to get my attention."
"I'm not eager," Kate looked away. "But if I were interested..."
"Would be wiser to stop, princess," she put the sunglasses back on. "I break hearts for sport and yours is not strong enough to take it."
"You know, for someone who got dragged into something they didn't wanna do, you look pretty happy..."
"Don't get it twisted, Bishop, if I'm smiling it's only because I want your mom to think I'm a charming young lady— none of this is fun for me."

Back at it again with another post about my journey through/thoughts on The Magnus Archives! This time, I'm tackling Season 2 of the horrifying podcast : )
Also, a small warning, this post is much more wordy than the last Magnus Archives review. I felt like sharing a lot of my little experiences this time and I didn't know how to shave the writing down 😅 So, yeah, it's gonna be a read.
Without further ado, I present...
My Journey Through Season 2 of The Magnus Archives!
!!!MAJOR Spoilers for MAG S2 Ahead!!!
So, I gotta admit, it was really hard to get back on the MAG train because I just needed a break after S1. That and school picked up for me again, so my free time got eradicated. The thing that got me hopping back onto the train was Eggo, my other lovely friends, and my bad habit of accidentally spoiling myself 😅
I roleplay with Eggo frequently and we like to use MAG characters in our roleplays. I like having a full visual of what a character looks like, so I obviously looked up some fanart to see how other people have drawn the MAG characters which, uh, gave me many questions and even more encouragement.
On top of that, my other friends were zooming through Magnus Archives like nothing and I certainly didn't want to be left in the dust! Not to mention that Eggo kept dropping little hints about future events without spoiling too much; even warned me about how Jon will get "very paranoid and turn into a bit of an ass in Season 2."
Damn you Eggo you magnificent bastard-
Anyway, I continued the second part of my auditory journey on March 27th and finished it on April 12th; I decided to take notes on each episode as I listened to help keep my thoughts together. Notes which I then polished up and am now going to share since I thought it'd be funny to expose my mostly unfiltered thoughts about this lovely series :D
My Silly Notes~
Ep. 41
Damn Jon sounds tired already I just want to give him a hug
Oh no, the paranoia arc has started oh shit-
Ep. 42
Pretty cool story but I'm waiting for the supplemental
NO NOT MARTIN!! JON NO! HE'S JUST AN INNOCENT BEAN!
Ep. 43
Man, even the police is pulling cover ups. Makes sense though.
Oh shit he got access to Gertrude's tapes oh shit!
Ep. 44
Oop- Gertrude recording 👀
Okay apparently body horror is the thing that fucks me up
Patience is a virtue Jon, and I'm worried about how paranoid you're getting. I've seen Marble Hornets I know the writing on these walls
Ep. 45
Ima be honest I spaced out in the middle of this statement, and then came back to right when the guy got all the blood sucked outta him exCUSE ME-
Every time Jon comes on with his frantic voiced supplemental I always sigh heavily
Oh shit Martin caught him-
Jon, my brother in Christ, you're stalking Tim???
Ep. 46
My flight or fight response went off at both the mention of a bookstore and the name Michael. Bro the statement just started-
"It was February when I got the Leitner book." moTHERFUCKER NOT AGAIN-
Figured it was The Vast yikers
Considering Sasha got fucking bodysnatched last season, I think I have a good idea about who's going into the tunnels
Oh shit spiders? The Web?? Funky monkey time???
Ep. 47
Oh, this poor woman. She went through a real House of Leaves situation
Nice hearing Jon say he believes a person's statement out loud
Eggo mentioned something about Micheal and doors and now I know what they meant and I am so down
Whomst??
Oh fuck it's Micheal-
OH. MY. FUCKING. HELL MICHEAL!
I take it back I'm not down-
Ep. 48
"...he felt he should at least let me know that I was marked." "...telling me to remember my mother. To keep her face in my mind." Oh. Oh, this sounds familiar...The Stranger?
I was incredibly wrong, but the statement is still terribly nerve-wracking since I'm not fond of large crowds
Well, at least Michael warned Jon about Sasha albeit vaguely
Oh shit Jon got told on!
Not Elias being on the suspect list. It's gonna get wild
Ep. 49
Butcher shop? Cannibalism?? We doing a cannibalism???
Nope it was way worse
Oh Sasha's computer keeps breaking I wOnDeR wHy-
Tim being the honeypot of the group has me cackling-
Elias being a pothead in college also has me cackling
Ep. 50
Love hearing more about Robert Smirke. I'm genuinely curious about him and his weird architecture
Damn this statement has me at the edge of my seat! Jonny Sims truly has a gift for storytelling dear goodness
Oh Tim! It's nice to hear his voice again : )
Tim completely misunderstanding why the policewoman keeps coming around to see Jon made me laugh into my pillow
Oh my Lord I'm sobbing Tim my beloved-
Ep. 51
Ding ding ding! Another name drop: Simon Fairchild! Last time I heard that name a guy got eaten by the DAMN SKY
Oh shit that means this is gonna involve The Vast fuck-
It seems Jon has caught Sasha staring at the table and got a recording of them chatting about it. Very glad about that
Ep. 52
Damn! Another name drop: Robert Montauk! I'm super interested in this statement
Oooh! Jon's getting another Gertrude tape let's go!
"No, the hot one" lol I'm crying
And the awkward explanation y'all I'm dead-
The lights are blowing and the water is bad I am seeing patterns
Thank you nightlight for turning off right when the statement mentioned the completely dark ass room; very appropriate
Another name drop: Maxwell Rayner. I don't remember where I've heard it before though...
Jon just sounds so tired. Please rest my dude
Ep. 53
Woo-hoo! Another statement with Gertrude! And it's both direct from subject and recorded on my birthday :D
Oh this one is rough
Ep. 54 to Ep. 68
Notes have been lost due to failure to save my draft before closing out Tumblr (I'm on mobile)
Ep. 69
Oh Martin, Jon... 😢
Jon why in the hell would you think it's a good idea to go alone oh my god sir
Ep. 70
The statement just started and I'm already being mildly jerked around by the dark humor
This journal is giving a particular energy
...well shit, rest in peace Christopher...
Yup this has gotta be another damn Leitner
Oop- I stand both corrected and disturbed
Ep. 71
New fear unlocked: Subway trains
Annnnnd we're back on the body horror hnnnnngh
This is the most straightforward statement I've ever heard damn
There's someone living in the tunnels, but at least Jon decided to stop going down there 😂
Ep. 72
Revisiting Maxwell Rayner the cult leader let's go!!
👀 🍿
And we back on the cannibalism ho boy
This statement writer thinks like me and I'm kinda unnerved by it...
"Meat is me" I felt my veins turn cold shit-
Holy. Shit. So many name connections!
Ep. 73
Hell yeah! We getting Basira's account of Maxwell Rayner's arrest!!
Okay, I already don't like the dark; this whole statement is just making my minor fear towards it worse
A cult never dies, Jon. It just sleeps for a while...
Ep. 74
As someone who likes to stay up, this one is...deeply upsetting
I also woke up sick so the description of physical fatigue matched up perfectly with how I felt this morning so that added some eerieness-
"Sleep is for the weak," is something I quote often as a joke. This statement made me shiver at the phrase.
Micheal scares the shit outta me
Welp I knew Not-Sasha was lurking in the tunnels, but who the hell is the other guy???
Ep. 75
Man with a lightening scar...why does that sound familiar...?
Ooooooh I remember now
This just made my fear of heights worse ack I do not like Michael Crew
Oh shit! Officer Basira came through hell yeah!!
Ep. 76
Yoooo the ghost hunting lady is back! Melanie King!
Haunted train you say?? 👀
My jaw is dropping at the first hand account from the guy on this train Holy crap!
It's. Not. Sasha. Jon! Listen. To. Melanie!
Ep. 77
Let's hope this Gertrude tape can help give Jon the push he needs to take care of Not Sasha
Hell yeah!! Thank you Gertrude you just gave Jon some very good information!
A proper name for the creature: The Not-Them. An aspect of The Stranger. So much good information...
I'm sorry, it travels??? Horrifying
Jon, my brother in Christ, please don't do this on your own
Ep. 78
The amount of concern I have for Jon, oh my gosh bro-
Something about this scenario just sets off a primal fear in me
Decker...why does that sound familiar too?
AHHHHHH!!!
And now I know why it was in the damn table
Oh, oh Jon....
Please listen to Jon please please please
Ugh or don't cause he shouldn't be alone I'm so torn-
Jon no nononONONO WRONG MOVE!!!!!
Hello Michael 👋 how's it going
hahaha I'm dying
Ep. 79
...are we really opening with one of Martin's poems right now?
Oop- never mind Tim and Martin are on their way! Haha
This is gonna be bad
Oh Martin, my heart goes out to you-
AH SHIT JUMPSCARE
Tiiiiim you can't leave him bro-
Yeah, you kinda jumped the gun Jonny boy...
Oh shit-
Boys, please stop fighting-
Micheal I swear to everything-
I'm not okay Holy shit
Jon, I love you dude, but shut up you'RE TRYING TO HIDE
I'msotenserightnowmyhandsareshakingholyfuck-
"The house of its enemy with the biggest eyes you've ever seen" oh how telling! I'd be intrigued if I weren't fucking terrified
I can't handle Jon breaking down I'm about to cry oh my god-
WHOMST IS THIS NOW!?!
I feel like I need an oxygen tank cause I can't breath enough holy fuck bro-
Ep. 80
I figured Sasha was dead, but...damn, it still hurts a little cause I liked her.
Leitner? As in the Jurgen Leitner?? Are you fuckING KIDDING ME BRO??!?
At least he's...helpful so far...
Yes, your master, Jon...hehe
At least Leitner is taking responsibility for his actions. Can't hate him for that.
I absolutely adore how everything is tying together in this episode. It feels so neat yet still so mysterious, like I'm getting answers, but not as many or as fast as I would like. I love it!
"...something with too many teeth and limbs like knives" "...ran into a door that shouldn't have been there" 👀
Damn, 20 years?? Goodness, Leitner...
"I-I didn't know Gertrude had assistants." "Of course, three of them. Each meeting an unpleasant end." For the sake of both Jon and his remaining assistants, I pray he's not part of a chain either...
Mr. Leitner you are a well of much-needed information huhuhu~
So that's where Eggo got the ant analogy...
Micheal is named The Distortion and The Spiral. Good to know.
I had a feeling it was Elias- wait Gertrude was going to destroy the archive??
Jon, we don't have time dude
Oh shit oh fuck I have fear-
The Unknowing???
THE WAY I FUCKING JUMPED EXCUSE ME WAHT-
Oh Martin, you sweet bean...
Bro, days??? He's been gone for days???
Oh no....
TL;DR
I firmly believe that the goal of any series should be to improve as they tell their story; The Magnus Archives achieves that goal beautifully. Last season, there was some episodes that I didn't find very entertaining. This season, however, I was enthralled by nearly every episode.
The writing, the reading, the sound design, everything just got better and better!
I felt my blood run cold and chills run up my spine several times throughout this season; I was all in on the mystery of Gertrude's murder; I was nervously biting my nails as Jon slipped further into paranoia and Not-Sasha continued to be more suspicious...
I am beyond excited to move on to Season 3 and, eventually, finish the entire series! I have truly and wholly fallen in love with this series 💚💜
