I've always loved Middle Earth. When I was a kid, I loved the elves and fancy, bigger-than-life heroes.
But as I get older, as I reread the books and understand things a little better, I have a deeper appreciation for the Hobbits and their simple way of living.
Simple living in a small town. You know and are friends with pretty much everyone (except the Sackville Bagginses, of course!). Taking a joy in gardening and food. Seeing and appreciating the nature all around you. Finding plenty of time to party and relax. There's not much more to a Hobbit's existence than living a natural life and enjoying all the little things, finding a great appreciation of nature.
I still love the elves and other fancy, bigger-than-life heroes, of course. But I've realized that I just want a Hobbit's life.
The mood board is something I created with all my own pictures. The pictures are of my property, as well as a local trail that my dog and I go to for adventures. (So I suppose I'm not completely Hobbit-anized, if I still go on adventures lol) I'm just trying to appreciate the nature around me more.

The life cycles of parasitic nematodes begins when dormant eggs recognize specific compounds secreted by the plant root (Figure 23.33). (...) As a result, the cell walls break down and neighboring cells are incorporated into a syncytium (see Figure 23.33A). (...) Roots infected by root knot nematodes form large cells, resulting in the establishment of the characteristic knot or gall, which also remains in close contact with the vasculature and provides the nematode with nutrients (see Figure 23.33B).

Isn't soil just crushed-up rocks and minerals, a lifeless mélange of sand and clay where plant roots go to find water and nutrients?

Homeowners are often frustrated by sewer backups. There's no doubt that they're the most disgusting and messy things you've ever encountered. You should contact the city public works office to report the issue immediately if you notice water rapidly entering your basement.
Causes of Sewer BackupsTree Roots
Sewer backups are also caused by plant roots. Roots of plants can sometimes find their way into pipes or even wrap around them. Especially if the lines were in poor condition, this would result in crushing. Invasion of roots is the term used to describe this process.
The main cause of root invasion is small cracks or holes in pipes transporting water. Plant roots can enter the lines through small cracks or holes when searching for moisture, resulting in blockages. Choosing the right tree for your home requires consideration of its roots.
Main Sanitary
When the city sanitary main becomes blocked, sewage may back up into your home through floor drains if not noticed in time. It takes time for this process to manifest, giving you time to consult a licensed plumber.
Clogging
When flushing the toilet, you hear gurgling noises or the water drains slower than usual. Your drain might be clogged if this is the case. It indicates that the drain is clogged due to abnormal functioning. Clogs in your home occur just like any other type of clog.
A clog builds over time and impedes the flow of liquid in drain pipes, affecting the operation of toilets, sinks, showers, dishwashers, washing machines, and sprinkler systems.
Sewer Mains Blockage
Sewer backups can also be caused by clogged main sewer lines. Eventually, the main sewer line becomes clogged due to clogs that build up over time.
A major cause of these problems is insufficient system capacity, especially in areas with heavy growth. Blockages may affect the entire plumbing system in your house rather than just one drain. A heavy cloth material that can soak up water should be used to cover the drain opening in this case.

how about that uhhhhh Fantasy Julie. she gets her sword <3 no one can take it from her <3
rambles:
SIKE you get an extra, lower quality doodle
SIKE AGAIN here's the rambles
yeah... i caved and gave her a tail... I'm Not Sorry! it's cute! i wanted to stick with her sorta flower motif - it's stronger in her princess look, since I imagine that when she was part of the royals she was very blatantly flower power based. it was her Thing!
but a Julie free of her noble shackles... she deserves her big sword. like yeah, she has flower magic, but who needs it when she has a Giant Blade??? on the royalty vein, and if we're classifying "rainbow monster" as a species, i feel like horn size/curve would be a status symbol of some kind. maybe Julie would have kept her horns filed short. but if she ran away from that life... longer horns! i like to imagine that they'll keep growing until she has a pair of Extra Weapons attached to her head! curved forward like mammoth tusks maybe!
i imagine that like Frank, she goes with minimal armor - range of movement over protection, yk? some scale mail over her front, a thick leather flower over her chest w/ scalloped leather pauldrons, wrist armor and metal knuckles! i'd think that the faux-suspenders include a back sheath for her sword... i wish i'd thought of that Before i finished the little ref! i don't feel like going back and editing!
i imagine that she was forced to cut her hair when it got caught in something (a gelatinous cube, mayhaps). it didn't look good! don't let anime and Mulan fool you! cutting your own hair with a blade will not look nice! but someone - Eddie, probably, he's good with scissors i'd assume - cleaned it up for her. and hey, it didn't look bad! plus, Julie probably liked being able to just tuck up her long strands into her hat when she's feeling a bit more like a Julius than a Julie!
it's been a fun challenge transforming their canon outfits into a similar variation with fantasy flavoring and twists! i want them to suit the setting but still maintain Themselves! Julie's was tough i gotta admit. i was messing around with the princess look and the fighter look side-by-side. it worked better when i sat back and thought "fighter Julie is Julie unrestrained. that version would be more aligned with her canon look"
i wanted her princess form to look Restrained! she has to be a ~delicate flower~, a noble woman, pristine and poised and very much a princess. soft colors, poofy clothing, bright white gloves that are not to be sullied. carefully bundled up hair! jewelry! that dress must be Heavy and hard to move in! her tail must be so cramped under there!
but Julie Unleashed? violent pinks! rose gold accents! short skirt so that she can sprint and Kick! fun boots that she can be active in and delight in watching them get dirty! her hair is free to whip in the wind and get caught in things! fun straps and Deadly Accessories! a sword that she stole from the royal armory on her way out the window! she has forearm wraps both to match Frank and to support her wrists!

So I put some lemon balm in a tiny vase for decoration, because I always have to pull it out of the garden because it's trying to take over everything. And after a week I got suspicious because it was still green and not dying back like plants usually do in a vase. And do you see the white lines in the water?? All of those plants decided to root in the water. So apparently I started propagating this plant accidentally. I think this only happens in spring, when the plant is so filled with growth hormones it doesn't even care if it's in soil or the water, this doesn't happen in the other seasons!
Anyway, I felt bad to let it rot in there, so I took one and planted it. Here it is after 1 week of getting into soil:
It already grew like 4 new leaves since it was in there, and I see it growing 2 more, it's growing like crazy. I already have enough of it in my garden, I think I'll gift it to a friend who likes lemon balm tea. I'm gonna bring this to them and go 'Do you want something aggressive and invasive in your garden'.

The development of the seed plant sporophyte can be broken down into three major stages (Figure 17.2): embryogenesis, vegetative development, and reproductive development. (...) An essential feature of this basic architecture is the presence of apical meristems at the tips of the root and shoot axes (see Figure 17.2), which are key to sustaining indeterminate patterns of vegetative growth.

B. subtilis volatiles also alter root architecture by changing root length and lateral root density.

forgive me for the possibly foolish question, but what kind of care do the fish in the aquaponics require? do you have to feed them to a certain point where the plants then supply their diet, or do you continuously care for them? merci! i love your blog 🌱
The plants don't feed the fish, it's the other way around :) The plants use the fish poop as natural fertiliser (with the help of useful bacteria that break it down), and in doing so they clean the water for the fish. Here's a little diagram
Since my system has towers over the fish tank rather than grow beds, the fish do nibble on the plant roots that dip in the water but that's just an illegal snack, fish food is their main diet. Also when I find little insects on the plants, I shake them so the insect falls in the water where the fish give it an enthusiastic welcome. Some aquaponic gardeners farm insects to feed their fish (and they feed the insects with some of the plants so they have a complete symbiotic system) but I haven't tried that yet. I used to successfully breed dynasties of stick insects in a terrarium in my bedroom as a kid, so maybe someday.
The fish part of the aquaponic system is very low-maintenance—I don't clean the tank since the plants absorb the fish waste, I just have to adjust how much I feed the fish depending on how many plants there are, so the water doesn't get dirty, it's a bit of a balancing act. The main other thing to watch for is the water pH, for plants it should be around 6 or 6.5 (ideally) and for fish around 7 or 7.5, so I try to keep it between 6.5 and 7 to keep everyone reasonably happy. Rainwater has a lower pH and my spring has a higher one, so when I fill up my watering can in the tank to water outside plants, I look at the pH meter and top up the tank with rain or spring water depending on what's needed.
You just have to be careful not to pick up a hitchhiker fish in your watering can as you go to water other plants!
