The Sign Ep 1 Stray Thoughts

Excited for the new show from IdolFactory and excited for more gays with guns.

So we have a hostage and bomb diffusing scenario that seems to be training, given the paintball guns.

Feels like they invested in the training for the action choreography, and the camera work isn't letting them down.

These Thai shows and the presence of the sun from scene to scene, I swear.

Are they really fighting over the hostage now? This cannot be good for training purposes.

We were robbed. What is the point of the ass shots if you're just gonna pixelate it??

Okay, so Tharn did have a vision of Phaya being stabbed, and this has been going on for a while.

This big ass man is something else.

Curious that Tharn doesn't want Phaya to know.

What are they even training for that they have to go through all of this. This seems dangerous.

I know that instructor is probably glad that Chart washed out.

First we had CGI tigers in Naughty Babe, and now we got dragons and Freen as some kind of sea mystic.

All this to become a cop???

I wonder how Phaya knew the name of Freen's character.

I hope Chart doesn't actually become a cop with the way he's always acted.

I hope this Auntie stabs one of them for fucking up her restaurant.

BL and its pratfall kisses, I tell ya.

Well there's an appreciable amount of flesh in these locker room scenes.

It's probably bad to discourage future investigators from pursuing hunches.

Phaya is not worried about Tharn at all.

So invested in this tumultuous relationship with these other two.

How do we go from insane flirting in the bathroom to some camouflaged creature creeping outside??

I'm glad we established queerness in almost all of these boys before the game.

Oh ho, their instructor is involved in some conspiracy around this death.

Well, that was entertaining. Don't know what all the action and training is preparing us for if this is just going to be a murder mystery, but we got to see a lot of fighting and grunting from buff men. I won't complain.

Algaeon, grass/water type. based on kelp, algae, and seaweed. it spends most of its time underwater. it camouflages itself in patches of kelp to lure prey. many tiny fish like wishiwashi and tatsugiri make their home in algaeon's tail. however, algaeon isn't interested in these small fish. rather, algaeon hunts their predators, such as goldeen and qwilfish and carvanah

decided to make a shiny for this one, since the blue to pink and green to brown are common shiny tropes. also, I didn't mention it in the pokedex entry, but the ears are based on nautilus shells.

Dog-day Cicada - Neotibicen canicularis

Happy New Year and Happy 2024 to everyone! Today's post may be short, but let us all look forward to a fond and well-remembered year with a summer insect that graces us yearly in Toronto.

Jumping off from the previous post featuring insect highlights from my photography of 2023's insects, we take a closer took at the humble Cicada. One of the individuals here was featured in the highlight post, crawling along the sidewalk, and all individuals here were found during the height of summer! While most Cicadas immediately take to the trees (after their exoskeleton has darkened) in search of the perfect spot to communicate with other Cicadas, there are some that need to fly around and search for that spot. The Cicada on my hand was one such individual that crashed head-on into the back of my head during a walk! Though very powerful fliers thanks to their large intricately-veined wings, they can be rather clumsy, especially when it comes to landing. In cases like this, it may have been flying so fast that it didn't have time to properly see and maneuver itself for a vertical landing (which is to say nothing of its weight and wing-to-body ratio) and it mistook me for a medium sized shrub. I've seen similar situations occurs when some backyard Cicadas fly from gardens plants to the trees.

Sometimes they can successfully grab the tree with their legs, and other times they crash headlong against the bark and clatter to the ground! Those that land on the trees climb to the tops, and fortunately they are somewhat camouflaged as they ascend. Viewing Pictures 2 and 8, the mottled abdomen, mossy head and thorax and transparent wings may fool some predators without acute vision, if only temporarily. As chance a Cicada gets to fool a predator must be taken as a Cicada has no defenses outside of the occasional surprise from the (male's) screech. Their primary strategy is to rely on their numbers to prevail and proliferate since they are noisy, large-sized and full of nutrients. Those that are luckiest make it to the treetops and sing until they either find a mate, get eaten, or drop down to the soil below to evade an attacker. I can only speculate that they climb up the trees and don't fly back up there for the following reasons: to draw less attention during the climb and it's easier to land on the wider portions of the trunk than thinner branches up top. Should they crash and fall thanks to the latter, they'd have to make the trip all over again.

Summary:

After losing his parents at a young age, Mignon lives as a mechanic by day and a cage fighter by night at an illegal arena. Living a life of exploitation and violence, the only person who gives him any attention is Oh Young-One, the resident doctor at the arena.

Despite accidentally discovering Young-One’s true identity, Mignon continues to love him, and it’s this pure kind of love that lets Young-One slowly open his heart. But when the hellish reality surrounding Mignon starts threatening the stability of Young-One’s life, can these two ever find happiness?

Propaganda:

Mignon is an independently-made BL aeni (Korean anime). There are only 12 episodes, and each is around 5 minutes long, except for the last one which is at around 8 minutes. Watching everything is like watching a short film, and not just because of the length, but also because of its quality.

The story is really short, so much so that we don’t get to see how Mignon and Young-One develop feelings for each other (It’s easy to guess why though). We’re thrusted right into the turning point of their relationship, with episode 1 ending with a shocking revelation that immediately propels you into the rest of the story. And by “shocking,” I don’t mean it was unexpected. It’s shocking in a way that its execution ingeniously builds up the tension before exploding right in your face.

The plot is nothing new in the yaoi genre, but Mignon makes up for this by delivering each aspect to perfection. The colors are purposeful, setting the tone of each scene while also telling us the significance of the place—loud, vibrant colors for the noisy arena, calm whites in the clinic where Mignon finds solace in Young-One, drab blues and greys in Young-One’s apartment where he’s lived alone for years, etc. Seriously, the backgrounds look like stand-alone paintings.

And oh, don’t get me started on the scene direction/arrangement. Every episode is impactful and unforgettable despite being very short. Episode 10, especially, is a cinematic masterpiece. Lastly, the music. There’s a lot of 80s synth-pop vibes that just work so well for it.

Mignon is really the kind of show you can call “art.” It’s a passion project by one person, and it took them three years to complete. You can just see how much thought is put into it. It’s not rushed at all, unlike a lot of weekly anime nowadays that would sacrifice the quality on unimportant scenes. And just for that, I think it’s worth checking out.

Summary:

In the cyber city Tom Sawyer, society revolves around earning "Love," akin to receiving likes on social media. Citizens of this augmented reality exchange Love for public services and appearance-changing avatars via the Decoration Customizer, also known as "Deco," a hologram device implanted in an individual's eyes from early childhood. Under the government's careful management, the people of Tom Sawyer live a peaceful existence, outside the occasional appearance of Phantom Zero, a mysterious criminal who brings all Love to zero within their vicinity.

Berry, a mischievous girl fascinated by Phantom Zero, lives comfortably in the system of Tom Sawyer until her Deco malfunctions, enabling her to see a camouflaged prankster named Hack. Believing Hack to be Phantom Zero, Berry chases after the suspect and, in the process, begins to uncover society's most well-kept secrets. As it turns out, Hack is not the only person living outside the system's rules—and the vibrant colors of Tom Sawyer hide a darker nature.

Propaganda:

Without any spoilers, Hack can easily be interpreted as nonbinary in some sort of way (whether they’re transmasc, transfem, or otherwise androgynous/neutral/other aligned) and their birth sex is never revealed, which is a plus for me. Furthermore, it’s literally what would happen if you made a fun, hard science fiction series in the style of a Ted Chiang novel but aimed at kids and written rather optimistically. It still has the hard sci-fi elements of critiquing AI and social capital systems and whatnot, but it also has an upbeat, cheerful tone of a children’s show, and you know what? I really like cheerful, intelligent kids shows! It’s something that I could not only watch on my own, but also watch with my conservative family without being seen as inappropriate, and it’s a genuinely cute and fun show!

I also like the colorful, free-flowing art style, thanks to Science SARU’s art, and the diverse characters, not only in characterization, but in race, body type, age, and gender. And the plot twists in this show really excited me too! This is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I genuinely recommend people to watch this show as well! Sadly, it’s not dubbed, likely because of its relative unpopularity, but the Japanese voice cast is another plus, especially Berry’s seiyuu! Berry is genuinely her first voice role, and she KNOCKS it out of the part, especially at making Berry’s cheerfulness stand out. Another good point: the MUSIC. With diverse mixes of electropop, hyperpop, and bit-based sounds, it genuinely has such a unique soundtrack compared to a lot of 2020s era anime’s yakousei and anisong based soundtracks which, while I like some yakousei and anisong tracks, I’m just not fond of both genres.

Trigger Warnings: Unfortunately, as a Science Saru show, Yurei Deco is unfortunately very flashy on the eyes and thus very unsafe for epileptics, the photosensitive, and autistic people who have trouble with eyestrain, among others. There are also depictions of classism that, while shown as wrong and not good in the narrative, might trigger those who experienced class-based abuse.

PQube announced that the Joy Brick-developed tank SRPG Panzer Knights has received an English text option on Steam. The publisher handled the English release, but the game was initially released in 2021.

Made a Digimon evolution line based on AI art. They are made from the dead data of digimon caught in AI generation processes. The data tries to rebuild itself into something resembling a functioning digimon.

Generamon pixel (Fresh), Generamon shape (In-Training), Generamon form (Rookie) and Generamon construct(Champion): Unstable, function on base instincts. Couse of large amount of corruption and damage to nearby data.

Generamon Hunger (Ultimate): Uncontrollable hunger for data. Body is a lie, the metal egg looking cocoon is actual digimon. Depending on type of data consumed Mega will be different.

(Mega 1) Generamon Devil, virus/nightmare solger type: powerful and sadistic. Enjoys corrupting digimon data into horrific shapes.

(Mega 2) Generamon Hunter, data/nature spirits type: although powerful it enjoys isolation and a good hunt. Corrupts data near it to stick to its skin to camouflage.

(Mega 3) Generamon Virtue, vaccine/virus buster type: Has a instinctual hatred for virus digimon. Corrupts data to permanently delete virus digimon with its blade. It is not a holy digimon, the ting is a gold crystal rip-off.

(Mega 4) Generamon Machine, data/virus with metal empire type: Highly dangerous, and territorial. Enslaves other machines type digimon to create its factory complex. Factory exists to constructand deconstruct machines. Corrupts the minds of digimon to be obsidian.

I should warn you that the campion, ultimate and mega 1 were heavily based of off actual AI art that I prompted in the beginning of the AI art fad. I did it mostly out of curiosity boredom and to maybe find some inspiration in my burnout.

4. what inspired you to craft?

I was watching other people (most often my mom) crafting, and it felt like magic that they could turn Materials™ into Things™ 😂 And also I wanted to do what people I loved did, and since many of my loved ones do variety of crafts, I also wanted to do them. ALL OF THEM.

5. anything you have made that you hated?

A dress I made in dressmaking school that gave me several meltdowns... It was two piece and the skirt turned out great, but the top I still want to burn and probably would if the materials hadn't cost me so much. Also I did a kickass work on making an invisible curved hem on taffeta.

6. anything you made that you loved?

So so many! The shoulder bag, the cowl-hood, tomte beanie, hoard of pairless socks, yarn plants on my cane...

9. what are you working on right now?

I have at least dozen projects at any given moment, but the two major projects atm are the granny square hiking backpack and granny square/pixel camouflage cardigan (I have a granny crochet phase as you can probably tell 😂)

post rainworld session summary because today was a very silly day for some reason:

players were Me and my sibling Oracle (@arcadian-vampire )

The Exterior:

"im gonna do it right this time" *fails the jump so hard i fall and die*

we saw like. three white lizards that failed so so badly at camouflage. you know the color of the leg? how its dark greys and blacks? yeah these guys were Bright Green because a few background pixels are green.

Five Pebbles:

i accidentally threw a rock directly at Oracles slugcat, which normally wouldnt be a problem, but it somehow flung nem Directly into a proto-rot cluster and we couldnt do anything about it. (its okay, later on i also fell into the exact same proto-rot cluster for different reasons)

i got killed by a bug light, thrown to another bug light, and then ping ponged between the two for a bit while Oracle just watched from the pipe.

Five Pebbles decided, for some reason, to not give us the mark, and instead Immediately Brain Blast us to death (twice).

The Exterior (again, but the wall this time):

*both of us staring at some blue twigs that are wiggling in a gap* "wtf is that??" "i have no idea-" *one of us immediately gets eaten by the blue twigs, which were actually a lizard*

Chimney Canopy:

"oh its okay, its not as big of a problem this way because its not a jump Up, so just long jump and-" *Oracle falls into the void* "....shit"

Industrial Complex:

"i grabbed it raw!!!!" said in a panic after grabbing a very alive very murderous pink lizard

LU Character design Analysis 7

Hello again! In case this is the first post you’re seeing, I’m doing this thing where I analysis all the chain’s character designs in LU and rank them against each other. It started off as a fun analysis post, but then I wanted to do a list so it became multiple posts, and then I decided to quantify my opinions, so I created a score system.

I’ve been doing it a member at a time and this is post number 7, so I suggest you go read the others before reading this one if you’re not caught up. Links are at the bottom!

For those who are caught up, let’s get onto...

3rd place: Hyrule

This is the most basic design before Wars; it is pretty much just a stylish take on his attire from LOZ and LOZ 2. But it’s this far up the list because it’s superbly practical and feels fresh yet old school.

Pros: His deal is that he’s this lone wandering cave gremlin, always on the move and having an affinity for exploration and getting lost in the natural world. This design communicates that almost perfectly. The browns are ideal colours for the great outdoors as they are easy to keep clean while on the go and combined with the slightly subdued green make sure he can traverse the woods or grassy plains relatively unnoticed. They are also are well placed, the different shades are complimentary, and they don’t get in the way of each other thanks to the yellow trim on his undershirt separating them.

Where in Wars’ case the yellow trim highlighted the exposed parts of his tunic and therefore drew too much attention to his torso, these do the opposite in Hyrule’s case, drawing the eye to his arms, legs and head. Nice. They’re also fairly subtle but against all the dark browns, stand out enough where if you look for him you’ll spot him- which is advantageous for him and his allies.

The whole outfit is practically saying, “nothing interesting to see here folks”, which fits Hyrule’s semi introverted nature. Yet the colour palette is warm, showing that he’s a total sweetheart if you take the time to get to know him.

He’s wearing a belt! No hanging ends, no waist blankie, no fur pelt to awkwardly tuck in, it’s just a simple ‘straight to the point’ belt. A belt that fulfils its purpose splendidly, for it is simple, securely fastened and it has useful items hanging from it.

The leather arm guards seemed strange to me at first- having it be wrapped around his middle finger looked uncomfortable, seemed like it was too much tension to put on one finger. But now that I’m analysing it I think they’re pretty neat. From a superficial stance it’s a nice change of pace from the sea of fingerless gloves, but they’re still very protective. I like the cross stitching detail running down and it is reflected in the stiching pattern on his trousers. The strange shape is due to him possibly hiding his red triforce mark (I don’t know the backstory, but it must be important to him)- and this was a pretty unique way of doing that.

A couple more things: I love the long wide sleeves of his brown undershirt since it gives him a more androgynous look (like Wild, and coming off as slightly gender neutral was also part of his original pixel design) and I like the cross stitching pattern on his green tunic (echoes the stitching on his trousers and armguards). His clothes have a similar vibe as Twilight, that being they have a run down and homespun look to it, very fitting for a rogue traveller.

Cons: For the top three in this list I’m hard pressed finding any meaningful faults. I guess Hyrule’s only major fault is that he’s not wearing armour. But then again his outfit is very good at not drawing attention (it’s kinda like, medieval style camouflage) and he’s the main spell caster, so armour wouldn’t really be a priority for him. If anything it might give him trouble when casting lightning spells.

His head looks a little bland. I’m salty that most of the chain aren’t wearing their hats because it’s such an easy way to spruce up their designs, plus the hat is iconic. The other’s have enough going on that they don’t need to wear their hats, but Hyrule’s design is a little too bland without some sort of head accessory.

Wishlist: I wish he had a green cape with a yellow stripe around the rim. There’s no reason for him not to wear one.

If not then some green accessories in his hair would be nice nonetheless, maybe some leaf looking things that could be woven in his hair (if it were longer).

Not essential, but I’d also kinda like to see some Christian imagery in his design, as it was something that was featured a lot in the first couple of games in the series. It can be something small like a cross necklace, or a cross accessory on his belt.

Aesthetic and visual score (/10): 8 Character representation score (/5): 5 Practicality score (/5): 4 Total (/20): 17

I’m here for the simplicity. I adore what he’s already got going on and he really doesn’t need more than that.
