Best Underrated Anime Group H Round 2: #H7 vs #H3
#H7: Isekai subversion, now with more women and good writing.
#H3: Two guys time-travel through photos. Depression ensues.
Details and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#H7: The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road)
youtube
Summary:
Average student Mitsuki Mutou suddenly finds himself transported to another realm. Summoned by the king of this world for the remarkable power he is supposed to possess, Mitsuki is thrown out when it appears that he lacks a Special Concept. Moping about, he encounters a priestess named Menou who explains that Japanese people like him are known as Lost Ones, and such individuals never fail to have Special Concepts.
Menou elaborates that she is part of a church that helps abandoned Lost Ones integrate into society. She invites him to spend the night at her church, where the two can probe the nature of his ability. Eventually, they discover that Mitsuki's Special Concept is actually incredibly powerful and dangerous.
But is Menou's true goal to assist Lost Ones—or the opposite?
Propaganda 1:
An isekai that forgoes the usual tropes and exceedingly dull, whitebread protagonist in favor of a cast consisting more or less exclusively of varying flavors of deranged lesbians.
As a bonus, a certain scene halfway through the first episode made a lot of the worst parts of the anime community SO mad, and I feel like that’s worth something in and of itself.
Propaganda 2:
An isekai subversion that doesn’t feel like it’s subversive for the sake of being trendy! All of its unique parts have lore to explain them, and the world building of the series is super intriguing. The power mechanics are well-thought-out, and the fighting is unique and beautifully animated! Another strong part is the character relationships; I love the various dynamics between the main cast, and I love how none of them are reduced to mere tropes, as anime loves to do with its women. It’s also very funny, and the protagonist is one of my favorites <3333
Trigger Warnings: Child Abuse, Graphic Depictions of Cruelty/Violence/Gore, Suicide. Suicide is basically a deuteragonist’s goal, but it isn’t shown.
Tumblr media
#H3: Link Click (Shiguang Dailiren)
Summary:
Best friends, roommates, and business partners Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang run a photo studio, developing pictures and the like. But that’s not all they do. The Shiguang Photo Studio has a secret extra service—they can deliver messages you never got to send and find information you never got to learn, so long as you bring a photograph, or maybe several.
Their method? A clap of the hands, and Cheng Xiaoshi dives into the past and into the body of the photographer. Guided by Lu Guang, he has twelve hours to achieve his goal, whether that is finding a secret, saying goodbye, or winning a fight.
Assisted by their friend and landlady Qiao Ling, the duo navigates a gallery of corporate lies, interpersonal drama, old regrets, and crime. In the second season, threads that began in the first episode of season one continues, showcasing the same level of brilliant writing and even higher stakes for our beloved characters.
Propaganda:
“Past or future, just let them be” is a message that is repeated throughout the show. At first, you’d think it’s just a matter of course, but after enough times of hearing it, it becomes depressing.
How can Cheng Xiaoshi be indifferent when he can feel the emotions of the person he’s possessing? When their pain becomes his pain as well? And so what if the person before him is already dead? At this moment, their hands feel so warm and alive.
This is where Lu Guang comes in. While Cheng Xiaoshi is the empathic and reckless type, Lu Guang is the cold and rational type. They balance each other out, and when they have conflicts, they face it maturely. They also care for each other so so much that the moment the other is in danger, all their principles get thrown out the window just to ensure the other person’s safety.
In s1, we watch them take on their clients’ orders. Through this, the show’s beauty is revealed: Simplicity and Sincerity.
Simplicity, because for a time-travel show, you’d expect the tasks to involve the fate of the world or something, but no. All the people Cheng Xiaoshi have dived into have been your everyday person—an office woman who gets harassed at work, a restaurant owner who’s grown estranged from her best friend, a man who wants to gain the approval of his girlfriend’s family, etc. Even when the stakes go high in s2, the core of the conflicts still lie in the character’s personal problems—which may seem small in the grand scheme of things, but they are not any less important. And I think this is nice. It’s hard to relate to grand plots, but it’s easy to relate to the day-to-day struggles that humans face.
Then Sincerity, because every single character is treated with care. Even characters you’ll never see again past their arcs manage to be impactful and unforgettable. They’ll claw their way into your heart and just stay there. I’ve rewatched s1 three times, but I still cry every time it reaches the basketball arc 😭. Then in s2, even the antagonists will grab for their share of your tears.
And you begin to question—Should they really just let the past or future be? If changing the past could save someone, is it really that bad?
The answer revealed in the s2 finale was so shocking that #link click trended for the first time ever on Tumblr after the episode aired, which is a feat in itself, considering how small the fandom is.
It has great animation, too. I especially love the 360° shots in some key scenes in s2 for they really amped up the tension. The fight scenes are also well-choreographed.
And all the music are bangers! S1 opening makes you wanna learn finger tutting, while the s2 opening is a masterpiece that leaves you in awe. (The s2 second chorus is just the first chorus played in reverse, making it sound like time is being rewinded. Fucking genius!)
If you still don’t watch Link Click after reading this, then you’ll be missing out in one of the greatest animated shows of all time. Just do yourself a favor and watch it already.
Trigger Warnings:
S1: Flashing lights in the opening, attempted and implied sexual harassment, slight panic attack, death, kidnapping, drugging, suicide, blood. Complete list of TW’s for s1 can be found here (it may be spoilery)
S2: Fast-changing images in the opening, domestic abuse, child abuse, emotional abuse, violence, blood, murder.

Can't Fuck Bracket - Group Stage. Group 1: Mob Psycho (Part 1)
Reigen Arataka versus Reigen Arataka versus Reigen Arataka versus Reigen Arataka versus Reigen Arataka versus Reigen Arataka
Tumblr media
[ID: The unfuckable pride flag overlaid with the "no bitches" meme. On top of it are several pictures of Reigen making exaggerated grimaces and sweating. Reigen is a light skinned Japanese man with short blond hair. End ID]
In all seriousness, we got too many submissions for Reigen, so I am doing this poll for you guys to pick which PROPAGANDA should be used for him. The maximum any other character has is two propagandas so the TWO most voted ones will represent Reigen in the tournament
Propaganda:
Reigen Arataka 1: "cringe. fail. pathetic. loser. canonically doesnt fuck. has never touched a woman in his life. hes sweaty. he got cancelled on twitter. hes the internet sex icon not the real life sex icon he doesnt fuck"
Reigen Arataka 2: "hes kinda ugly :/"
Reigen Arataka 3: "He has absolutely no swag. Nobody wants him. Gets rejected so many times"
Reigen Arataka 4: "most bitchless motherfucker this side of seasoning city. once when asked about his previous romantic pursuits he lied by reciting the plot of titanic as if he were leonardo dicaprio"
Reigen Arataka 5: "Literally when talking about his past love life he makes up the plot of the titanic. Gets no bitches, sweaty as all hell, and just like. Have you seen him? Internet sex symbol but he gets no sex this is false advertising at its finest."
Reigen Arataka 6: "dude okay listen. he is chronically bitchless. when giving out advice on how to woo someone he was just reading tips off of google. there was once a big hype where the author, ONE, was going to reveal reigen’s past romantic endeavors in an in character q&a but it was just reigen making up bullshit about how he’s “DEFINITELY had so many girlfriends before and he once held one at the front of a famous boat. oh that was from a movie? UMMM well it doesn’t matter anyway.” literally just saying something from the first romance movie that comes to mind and trying to pass it off as something he did himself."

Japan's Comeback Victory Secures R16 Spot; Morocco Atop of Group F
A Recap of Groups E & F of the 2022 FIFA World Cup
Tumblr media
Morocco celebrates as they advance to the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup, eventually as the group champion (📸 AFP via Daily Sabah)
The writing started right before the start of the last two groups (Group G & H), hence it did not reflect the latest changes.
Yesterday saw several countries "unexpectedly" advancing to the Round of 16. In Group E, where Morocco advanced for the second time in 36 years, while Japan became the winner of the group after scoring a comeback win against Spain 2-1.
The evening started with the third match of Group F, between Belgium v. Croatia and Morocco v. Canada, held simultaneously. Morocco started aggressively in the first half by a goal from Hakim Ziyech in 4', taking an advantage from Canada's unguarded pitch. Subsequently, Canada started to get the groove with their chances, but it went too wide.
The Moroccan perfection continued with an additional goal from Youssef En-Nesyri at 23', where he executed the pass straight away that came from Achraf Hakimi. Meanwhile, in an attempt of the Canadian struck back, the Atlas Lions conceded to their own Nayef Aguerd, defending erratically the strike from Sam Adekugbe, enabling Canada to catch up at 1-2. On the other hand, both Croatia and Belgium defended well, somewhat unable to strike an on-target goal chance, hence the 0-0 scoreline until the whistle blew in half time.
Tumblr media

The flow on the second half, however, switched. There were several brilliant on-target chances, most notably from Romelu Lukaku, where one of it reached the goal post near the end of the match. Furthermore, Croatia also recorded its notable chances from Mateo Kovacic, for example, but to no avail. On the other hand, Canada continued their counter-attack while Morocco defended well; however, they held on for the 2-1 victory for Morocco, enabling them to advance to the Round of 16 as a group winner.
At the end of the day, the final standings of Group F looked as follows:
Tumblr media
The final standings of Group F (📸 FlashScore)
While having the same goal difference and scored equal number of goals, Morocco topped the Group F standings from their victory against Canada. However, the draw was not enough for Belgium to pass Croatia, where it was sufficient for the latter to secure their qualification as the group's runner-up.
This match also marked Roberto Martinez's emotional last match as the Belgian head coach. He led the Belgian "Golden Generation" to the third place of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as well as being in the top of the FIFA rankings for up to three years. The decision was made right before the World Cup, where in the post-match interview he also concluded that their performance was not decent enough at this level, while Croatia managed to equal their level at that match.
Group E's Scramble to R16
Tumblr media
The standings dynamic of Group E throughout the course of both matches (📸 #APORLA15 on Twitter).
The evening ended dramatically with the dynamicity of Group E's standings during the 90 minutes of both simultaneous matches. Every goal scored shook every psrt of the standings, considering how the teams tried to be more aggressive as possible, hence both matches being fast-paced.
Germany started the scramble by Serge Gnabry's goal at 4' in an excellent execution of the previous passes, putting them in the third place of the standings. Several minutes later, Spain's Alvaro Morata perfectly put the ball to the net at 10', strengthening the Spanish lead in the standings.
Tumblr media

The scramble then continued in the second half, where Ritsu Doan scored a goal right 3 minutes right after the start, thanks to his 18-yard accurate shot. Several minutes later, they tried to apply more pressure to the Spanish side from Kaora Mitoma’s passing cut from Ao Tanaka, which goal afterward deemed controversial because of the pass being several millimeters close to offside, while the goal itself needed 2 minutes to be deemed valid by the Virtual Assistant Referee (VAR) confirmation. Had the ball been out, Germany would have stood second in the standings, increasing their likelihood to advance to the final.
While both Japan and Spain held on throughout the last few minutes, Germany and Costa Rica competed to outpace each other: Yeltsin Tejeda scored after the rebound at 58’, then they led 2-1 after Juan Pablo Vargas scored to follow the free kick up, and Germany equalized after Kai Havertz scored from inside the box. However, while Japan and Spain stayed stagnant, Germany and Costa Rica produced excellent chances, which mostly maximized in the German side, including Havertz’s goal from the back post and Leroy Sane’s assisting position given onside before Niclas Füllkrug executed the goal. This goal party was the main reason behind the constant position changes in the standings.
As it stood by the final whistle, the final standings of Group E was set:
Tumblr media
The final standings of Group E (📸 Daily Mail)
With the last two groups remaining by the start of this writing, this means the three-fourth of the Round of 16 matches were set. As the group winner, Japan will face Croatia, while Spain will face Morocco from the previous groups’ standings. Germany, however, was eliminated due to the goal difference tie-breaker, thanks to the Spanish 7-0 victory against Costa Rica, with Costa Rica being the last place.
Incoming will be the recap from the last two groups, with the last group ongoing by the time this writing was finished.

Best Underrated Anime Group J Round 1: #J4 vs #J5
#J4: Kids conquering dungeons to change the world
A Magi is a magician whose inclination toward magic is so immense that they can be said to shape the world. With their significant influence, each Magi chooses a worthy candidate to become a king, then helps them conquer strange labyrinths called "Dungeons" and acquire the power of mythical djinns within. Above all else, the Magi supervises their elected representative as they build a country that might one day bring the world to its knees.
Aladdin is a young Magi wandering the world in search of his true self. However, his journey is not a lonely one, as he is accompanied by his friend and mentor Ugo—a djinn he summons using his flute. On his travels, Aladdin also befriends Alibaba Saluja and guides him to a nearby Dungeon. With this newfound friendship, they begin an epic adventure across the world, witnessing various irregularities that seem more frequent than ever.

#J5: Girls live in a school, but not by choice
Carefree high school senior Yuki Takeya looks forward to the School Living Club every day. Consisting of the president Yuuri Wakasa, the athletic Kurumi Ebisuzawa, the mature Miki Naoki, the supervising teacher Megumi Sakura, and club dog Taroumaru, the club prides itself on making the most of life at school. There is only one rule the club members have to follow: all members must live their entire lives within school grounds.
[Admin: I didn’t notice it while screening the submissions, but the submitter’s original trailer and tagline contained MAJOR spoilers for episode 1. Luckily, I’ve watched this show before, so I can edit it safely.]
Titles, propagandas, trailers, and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#J4: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
youtube
Propaganda 1:
Imagine characters from Arabian Nights/1001 Nights coming to life in an anime. Even though it is loosely inspired off of the tales, it is a unique time and place from most anime settings. It has action, humor, and deep concepts. One of my favorite parts about Magi is how well-developed the background characters are.
Propaganda 2:
This anime has a lot of philosophical takes on what fate is. Basically, is everything that happened to you caused by a force you can’t control or is it what you make of it? Is there something or rather someone pulling the strings on what should or shouldn’t be? Is the person you are because you were lucky or unlucky to be born in the wealthy family or not? Why are things the way they are? Why was I dealt with a shitty hand in life? Is it because I’ll never amount to anything, or is something doing this to me? Why are we here just to suffer kind of deal, but you know not the meme version, the really sad and real version. Then you have the side of the people who may have not had the best life, but found a way out of it. Why do some people get to feel the light when you went through the same thing, but still lost and in the dark?
Trigger Warnings: Partial nudity and slavery. One of the mains is a slave in the beginning, but the other two mains help free her from that.
Tumblr media
#J5: School-Live! (Gakkougurashi!)
youtube
[Admin: The official trailer spoils ep1, so here, have the opening instead.]
Propaganda:
If you like Madoka Magica, you’ll 100% like this series. It’s hard to explain without spoilers, but it has a huge plot twist in the first episode. The anime is a short one with only 12 episodes, but it has an amazing manga as well! It mixes a cute slice of life high school anime with a darker plot, and it’s handled so well. It doesn’t seem like it’s just dark for the sake of being edgy like some other similar series. It covers topics like mental health and grief well, and it has as happy of an ending as possible for a series like this. The plot twists were executed so well, and I was sobbing by the end of the series.
Trigger Warnings: Animal Cruelty or Death, Graphic Depictions of Cruelty/Violence/Gore, Derealization.
[Admin: I had to remove the submitter’s explanations for the TWs because it will spoil the show greatly. You're on your own now. Proceed at your own risk.]
