Technical requirements of the elbow and Types of elbow division
In the piping system, elbow is to change the direction of the pipe fittings. According to the angle, there are 45°and 90°180°three most commonly used, in addition, according to engineering needs also include 60°and other non-normal angle elbow. Elbow materials are cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, malleable iron, carbon steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics.
The way to connect with the pipe are: direct welding (the most common way) flange connection, hot fusion connection, electrofusion connection, threaded connection and socket connection. According to the production process can be divided into: welding elbow, stamping elbow, pushing elbow, casting elbow, butt welding elbow, etc. Other names: 90 degree elbow, right angle elbow, etc.
Technical requirements of the elbow
Requirement to control the radius of curvature. For example, if the radius length is 1.5D, then the radius of curvature must be within the required tolerance. As most of these pipe fittings for welding, in order to improve the quality of welding, the end are turned into a bevel, leaving a certain angle, with a certain edge, this one requirement is also more stringent, how thick the edge, the angle for how much and the range of deviation are specified, geometric dimensions than pipe fittings a lot more items. Elbow surface quality and mechanical properties are basically the same as the pipe. For the convenience of welding, and the steel of the tube being connected is to be the same material.
1.as most of the pipe fittings for welding, in order to improve the quality of welding, the end are turned into a bevel, leaving a certain angle, with a certain edge, this requirement is also more stringent, how thick the edge, the angle for how much and deviation range are specified. The surface quality and mechanical properties are basically the same as those of the pipe. For the convenience of welding, the steel type of pipe fittings and the connected pipe is the same.
2.is that all pipe fittings are subjected to surface treatment, the inner and outer surface of the iron oxide by shot blasting treatment sprayed off, and then coated with anti-corrosion paint. This is for export needs, in addition, in the country is also to facilitate transportation to prevent rust and oxidation, are to do this work.
3.is the requirement for packaging for small pipe fittings, such as exports, you need to do wooden boxes, about 1 cubic meters, the number of elbows in such boxes can not exceed about a ton, the standard allows sets, that is, large sets of small, but the total weight generally can not exceed 1 ton. For large pieces of y to be a single package, like 24″ must be a single package. Another is the packaging mark, the mark is to indicate the size, steel number, batch number, manufacturer's trademark, etc..
Types of elbow division
Divided by the production method can be divided into pushing, pressing, forging, casting, etc.
Divided by the manufacturing standard can be divided into national standard, electric standard, ship standard, chemical standard, water standard, American standard, German standard, Japanese standard, Russian standard, etc.
Divided by its radius of curvature: can be divided into long-radius elbow and short-radius elbow. Long-radius elbow refers to its radius of curvature is equal to 1.5 times the outer diameter of the pipe, that is, R = 1.5D; short-radius elbow refers to its radius of curvature is equal to the outer diameter of the pipe, that is, R = 1.0D. (D is the elbow diameter, R is the radius of curvature).
If divided by pressure level:There are about seventeen kinds, and the United States pipe standards are the same, there are:Sch5s, Sch10s, Sch10, Sch20, Sch30, Sch40s, STD, Sch40, Sch60, Sch80s, XS;Sch80, SCH100, Sch120, Sch140, Sch160 XXS; the two most commonly used are STD and XS.
According to the different shape use can be divided into: grooved elbow, tube elbow, double-bearing elbow, flange elbow, reducer elbow, dull seat elbow, inside and outside the tooth elbow, stamping elbow, push elbow, socket elbow, butt welding elbow, internal wire elbow, etc.

So much perfectly good scrap material gets thrown away during construction. Even like, unused nuts and bolts and random little hardware bits. Lengths of metal pipe that would cost real money if you tried to even get a sample of a similar material at a hardware store. Scraps of wood big enough to make something out of. Etc.
This is really upsetting to me because I know so much of this is just going into landfills and not long that—a lot of it is perfectly useable and stuff that crafters and artists usually have to pay money for!
Recently I have lowkey turned into a dumpster diver because there’s useable stuff thrown away in the big garbage bins in the construction zones of the library where I work. I’m a student and I don’t have money to buy materials for art projects!! Also I have an assignment at the library I work at to decorate our desks for holidays—however we have a budget of literally $0 so I have to use whatever random stuff is around. Even before this I once found this huge cylinder of construction-quality styrofoam that I’m making into a pretty cool little cushioned stool out of it.
TLDR: someone should start a system for construction zones to save useable scrap material and put it somewhere for poor local artists to sift through before it gets thrown away. It would help creatives save money AND keep a lot of construction waste out of landfills!
