11: Photography Shoot with Sam - Second Year Textile and Fashion Student

Meet Sam

Sam is in her second year on the BA Hons Fashion and Textile course at Ulster University Belfast.

She grew up in Co. Mayo, Ireland and moved to Belfast to study at University.

Sam in this university academy year of 2019/2020 is on the Committee team for the Fashion Society, where she has worked with myself when my Photography Society had collaborated with the Fashion Society on two events. A networking event and Belfast Design Week.

Image One:

After doing my shoot with Rachel, I have decided to approach this second shoot with Sam a little bit different. I have used a chair to ask my subject sit down on. This creates a nice calm, more striped back image. I think the idea of this type of portrait in that the environment is the portrait, it is what speaks to the viewers rather than the person.

Image Two:

I like this image, as I enjoy close up images they show more detail and i feel that the viewers eye can rest and focus on one element rather than several. I like this background, it is simple but reflects on the environment of textiles and materials.

This backdrop was made by the textile and fashion students, they each made an individual piece and in the end it created this very interesting piece of art.

Image Three

I got Sam to pose like this as it gives of a strong look, she looks happy. I enjoy this image.
