SAINT EPARCHIUS THE RECLUSE OF GAUL (Gaul_581)

aint Cybard (or Eparchius, Eparque, Ybar, Ybard, Separchius, Cybar; 504 – 1 July 581) was a monk and a hermit who inhabited a cave beneath the walls of Angoulême for forty-four years. The Latin form of his name is Eparchius, and it also appears in French as Éparche and Ybars, as in the commune of Saint-Ybars.
“Eparcus, commonly called Cybar, quit the world despite his parents, who would hinder him from following his vocation, and retired to the monastery of Sedaciac in Perigord; he there served God some time under Abbot Martin and soon became known and admired for his extraordinary virtues and miracles. Wherefore, dreading the seduction of vain glory, he left his monastery to hide in absolute solitude. Near Angouleme, with the bishop of Perigeux’s and his abbot’s leave, he shut himself up in a cell. But his virtues were too striking for concealment, and the bishop of Angouleme obliged him to accept the priesthood. Cybar was extremely austere in his food and apparel, especially during Lent. Although a recluse, he did not refuse to admit disciples; but he would not allow them manual labor, as, after his own example, he willed they should be constantly occupied in prayer. When any of them would complain for want of necessaries, he would tell them, with St. Jerom, that “Faith never feared hunger.” Nor was he deceived in his trust in Providence, as he always found abundance for himself and his disciples in the beneficence of the faithful, insomuch that he could even redeem many captives. He died on the 1st of July, 581, having lived about forty years in his cell. His relics were kept in the abbey church of his name until 1568 when they were burnt by the Huguenots.”

ST. ANGELINA, DESPOTINA OF SERBIA (16TH C.)
Saint Angelina was the daughter of Prince George Skenderbeg of Albania. Her mother’s name is unknown, but she raised her daughter in Christian piety and taught her to love God.
Saint Stephen Brancovich (October 9 and December 10), the ruler of Serbia, had come to Albania to escape those who wished to kill him. Some time before he arrived in Albania, Saint Stephen was unjustly blinded by the Turkish Sultan for some perceived offense. Since he was innocent, he bore his affliction with courage.
Saint Stephen was not only Prince George’s guest but he was also treated as a member of his family. Not surprisingly, Stephen and Angelina eventually fell in love. With her parents’ blessing, they were married in church. After a few years, they were blessed with two sons: George and John.
When the boys were grown, Saint Stephen and his family were forced to flee to Italy for their safety. At that time the Turks invaded Albania and began slaughtering men, women, and even children.
Saint Stephen died in 1468, leaving Angelina a widow. In her distress, she turned to the ruler of Hungary for help. He gave them the town of Kupinovo in Sirmie.
Saint Angelina left Italy with her sons in 1486, stopping in Serbia to bury Saint Stephen’s incorrupt body in his native land.
The children of these pious parents also became saints. George gave up his claim to the throne in favor of his brother John, then entered a monastery and received the name Maximus.
John was married but had no sons. He died in 1503 at a young age, and many miracles occurred before his holy relics.
Saint Angelina survived her husband and both of her sons. Mindful of her soul’s salvation, she entered a women’s monastery. She departed to the Lord in peace, and her body was buried in the same tomb as her sons in the monastery of Krushedol in Frushka Gora.
Saint Angelina is commemorated on December 10 with her husband, Saint Stephen, and her son Saint John.

Camille Fauré-Porcelana de Limoges.
El artista del esmalte Camille Fauré nació en Perigeux en 1827.
Fauré pasó un aprendizaje antes de montar su propio taller en Limoges, donde trabajó durante más de cincuenta años. Se convirtió en el artista más talentoso de Limoges, llamado durante mucho tiempo por sus esmaltes. En 1925 expuso en la Exposición Internacional de París que dio nombre al Art Deco. Sus trabajos anteriores incluían patrones florales y figurativos más grandes, a menudo en colores ricos y aparecían en varios productos como jarrones, ceniceros, cajas y cuencos. Sus diseños geométricos posteriores lo distinguen como un gran esmaltador creativo del estilo Art Deco. Se pueden reconocer a través de patrones estilizados en tonos de azul, rojo, naranja y amarillo, acentuados con negros. Fauré falleció en 1944.

WHERE IS THIS STUNNING DORDOGNE HOUSE?
This Dordogne accommodation site in the Aquitaine region (Dordogne is the department but you will hear people pronounce it as “the Dordoyne area”) is north or NW from Languedoc Roussillon, from Périgueux, Bergerac, cote d’azur, Lot et Garonne.
This cottage is South east of the pays de la Loire valley and east of Poitou Charentes, Villefranche du Perigord in Périgord noir, the midi pyrenees. The Massif central is east of this destination. Beynac et cazenac, Sarlat and Rocamadour are to south east of the cottage. The bastide towns of Monpazier and Domme are further towards the south of France, as are other bastide towns. Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil near the Grotte de Font-de-Gaume, is to the south of our holiday homes. Nord pas de Calais is far colder and is 7 hours up from this Farmhouse cottage.
We are about a 5 hours journey down from Normandy way. Périgueux with its cathedral is worth a visit (Perigeux is 1 hour away from the property). Marqueyssac is an hour and a half to the SW. The site can be reached from eastern France or western France. How wonderful for your friends or family to rent a gite in the Dordogne, to enjoy holidays together.
We are not listed on Gites de France in Dordogne because we feel properties like ours offer more value to you by being direct, by not suffering the advertising fees, and showing you everything there is to see of these. Our ratings and reviews show we look after you.
The property owner Duncan Ritson-Elliott is British, from England, so speak English; he also speaks good French. The owners are off-site so the property is all yours for your holiday.
THE REGION
When looking for a Gite in Dordogne with Swimming Pool, Jumilhac le Grand village offers a great restaurant overlooking the chateaux (castles) fortresses and gardens which visitors can view. There is also a public pool. The village has shops and a tourist office for information, and one of the rivers runs through it for gold panning which is a fun experience in the landscape (you can swim in the river), and other family or couples activities. Other villages near the villa are beautiful.
Sightseeing Overview:
You can filter through the best Dordogne sights, information, attractions and places, for the right experience and price for you. Other Dordogne opportunities include spa and beauty treatments available in town as well as chateaux, creative arts, antiques and the brocante market. Further afield is the opportunity for watersports and horses (horse riding), and other great fitness and fun activities. Mountaineering is not an option but everyone can follow the wine route from your gite in the beautiful Dordogne.
The Dordogne church in the local market town of St Yrieix La Perche is a stunning example of medieval architecture of history.
Skiing at Mont D’or is 2 hours away. Fun destinations include the vineyards, Sarlat and La Roque Gageac valley is an hour and an half a way. You are well within your rights to go along the walking trails from the farmhouse cottage – take the map from the estate which will help.
Arcachon beach and other beaches and coastline are 2.5 hours away near Bordeaux.
Customers can easily take the train service to Bordeaux, Périgueux or to the capital city Paris.
Experience a glimpse of the culture and experience the charm of Dordogne, warm the heart with confit de canard with walnuts, maybe foie gras or truffles, for a better life.
Down the gites hillside, our lake gives you a chance to go out rowing on the boat or swim in the pool and you can take a countryside nature walk by the river water way (the river runs around the lake).
MORE ON THIS DORDOGNE HOUSE
Your Dordogne cottage sleeps 2, sleeps 4, sleeps 6, sleeps 7, sleeps 8, sleeps 10 or sleeps 13 at the maximum depending on how you use the bedrooms 1 to bedrooms 5. Because the walls are 80cm thick, we don’t need air conditioning!
