I find it very implausible that the Schue-Horyn parents would name one of their twins Artemis and not name the other Apollo, so I think there are only two explanations for this:
Paul is short for Apollo (Apollo -> Pollo -> Pol -> Paul)
Artemis is trans

The intent behind the character was clearly "loveable but immature/childish dumbass" but I choose to believe that Paul Schue-Horyn is the way he is because he actively chooses to see the best in people even when it seems like there's something off about them, doesn't want to make assumptions even if he thinks he knows what's up, and almost always knows way more than he lets on because he'd rather look dumb than be rude, presumptuous, or gossip/not be respectful of people's privacy. Why do I think this? I like him and think he deserves more depth even though as a main character he already has plenty of depth

Artemis in Wayward Guide the Web Series: Ryan Reynolds is crazy and I'm only going to Connor Creek because my equally insane boss is making me do it.
Artemis in Wayward Guide the podcast: Ryan seemed a little crazy but we just COULDN'T shake the feeling that his story was important. I felt like we JUST HAD to check it out.
(Also, Paul putting emphasis on his ability to sniff things out is totally our first clue that he ends up a werewolf and I totally did not catch it at the time)
